Hank, my understanding of this verse is that we are to only avoid a specific kind of dissensions and hindrances. Which are those that are contrary to the teaching we have learned from God. Which also means that there are some d and h's that are not contrary but are according to the teaching and so we are to be doing them. Such as the contending for the faith in Jude 3. If this does not answer all your questions, I will try again. Also, praise God for being thus accused, for it is only by His work in me that I do it. | ||||||

Since churches are "mistaken about many things" we need to thank God our salvation is not dependent on their perfection and so will not be afraid of losing our salvation if we admit to the mistakes and try to change them. Does anyone know of a church that doesn't make mistakes like making timing more important then becoming like Jesus by doing Heb 10:25? So then we actually do things like "casting the beams" out of our own eyes,instead of just talking about how good it would be to do it. | ||||||
