21 | was abraham ever a gentile? | Genesis | shalor | 102348
Abraham was a Hebrew before God made a covenat with him! (Gen 14:13 NASB) Then a fugitive came and told Abram the Hebrew. Now he was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, and these were allies with Abram. (Gen 15:18 NASB) On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants I have given this land, From the river of Egypt as far as the great river, the river Euphrates: From the Holman Bible Dictionary: HEBREW (Hee' broo) A descendant of Eber. See Eber. It differentiates early Israelites from foreigners. After David founded the monarchy the term Hebrew seems to disappear from the Hebrew language. The designation apparently begins with Abraham (Gen. 14:13), showing that he belonged to an ethnic group distinct from the Amorites. It distinguished Joseph from the Egyptians and slaves of other ethnic identity (Gen. 39:14,17; 41:12; 43:32). Abraham's land has become the land of the Hebrews (Gen. 40:15), and his God, the God of the Hebrews (Ex. 5:3). Given the ethnic identity, special laws protected Hebrew slaves (Ex. 21:2; Deut. 15:12; compare Lev. 25:40-41; Jer. 34:8-22). After the death of Saul (1 Sam. 29), the term "Hebrew" does not appear in the historical books, pointing possibly to a distinction between Hebrew as an ethnic term and Israel and/or Judah as a religious and political term for the people of the covenant and of God's nation. See Habiru. |

23 | The Law: Abolished or Not Abolished? | Matt 5:17 | shalor | 102220
Romans 8: 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so; 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. Christ is the law of the Spirit of Life. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And that Life existed before creation and became the Light of men |

28 | Something to read | Bible general Archive 2 | shalor | 101372
And Isa 55:11 teaches (Isa 55:11 NASB) So shall My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. And Matthew 28 teaches (Mat 28:19-20 NASB) "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." My conclusion here is that Jesus tells us to carry the word and it will accomplish what is desired. I don't even have to know why I should do it or What God plans to do with it. |

Deu 29:29 NKJV ""The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law." Isa 55:8-9 NKJV ""For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD. 9 "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts." A lot can be said with those 2 verses. Just do it wether you understand why or not. |

http://www.calvarychapel.com/library/smith-chuck/books/caatwog.htm CALVINISM, ARMINIANISM AND THE WORD OF GOD the above url gives a good starting read on cavinism and Arminianism with out severely trying to twist you either way. Remember both Calvinism and Arminism a derived by starting out with the word of God and trying to apply Aristoliean logic. Neither Calvin, Arminius, or Aristotle were Jesus. If you end up with a conclusion that contrdicts the word of god or keeps you from following it, you can safely throw it away, no mater how many people try to convince you otherwise. |

32 | Kingdom of God...now? | Ephesians | shalor | 101320
Eph 4 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ. The degree that one experices it wuould best be decribed in verse 13 to a mature man. The fancy term for this is sanctification. it is a continual Growing process and will never be complete until the final cumulation of the Kingdom at Christ's return. 2 Cor 12 9 And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may dwell in me. The power of Christ to dwell in us is determined by how much strength or oppisition we put up to it. much like the difference between a 40 watt light bulb abd a 100 watt light buld the 40 watt bulb put up more internal resistance and therfore put out less light. |

33 | Predestination vs free will--a thought.. | Bible general Archive 1 | shalor | 101275
What make the concept diificult is that God is not limited to our concept of time. The fact he exists in yesterday. today, and tomorrow allows him to have a plan that unfolds to us. The sovereignty of God is not versus the free will of man but rather the free will of man is granted by the sovereignty of God. We are not puppets but god does know our future actions and has the power to influence them according to His will. It is always Gods will not ours that will prevail (in out view of time)or has already prevailed (in Gods view of time) |

34 | "a thorn in the side"? or Not? | 1 John 2:2 | shalor | 100735
In carrying the gospel, it is imperative to remember that it is the good news, not the bad news that one is presenting. Of course this requires the necessity of presenting the fact that this is good news because they already are in a state of bad news. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. And the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Isaiah 55:11 teaches : So shall My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. The gospel that is carried is God’s word and will accomplish what he desires. A foot soldier for Christ should take care of how he cares for his feet. EPH 6:15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; Jesus teaches in Matt 10:14, Mark 6:11, Luke 9:5, and Luke 10,11 that we should shake the dust our feet of those who reject. In other word keep your feet clean they are shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. In simple language don’t dirty up the gospel. Those that reject the Gospel reject God’s word, not my word or your word. In Acts 13 when Paul is at Pisidian Antioch, he clearly shares the Gospel, with a warning, But in the final verse he shake the dust from his feet, as Jesus taught, and moves on down the line. |
