21 | Did the Holy Spirit inspire Scripture | NT general Archive 1 | greentwiga | 144901
We have a God that is so much greater than ourselves. We are told that we can't understand or interpret his thoughts. He does give us information about His plans, but some areas are difficult. We try our best to understand, but we will always have side issues that we can't. I just relax and say, My theology is wrong somewhere, but I just don't know where. God will eventually explain it to us. In the meantime, I see both pre and post trib verses and leave tham be. God has given me a sharp analytical brain, and I use it to look at some of these issues, but mostly, I just say, in either case, my job is the same, so I'll do my job greentwiga |

You never know. I got that job, and then lost it when I went through a divorce. It also messed up two other careers, and an attempt to build another never got successful. I am researching difficult Bible questions (Adam and evolution, Noah and the flood, with possible books) Now suddenly, unlooked for, at 54, my pastor wants me to come on as the missions pastor to start a missions program at this large church. Suddenly, after a life of frustrations, a wonderful opportunity. We do not always know why God uses us the way he does, we just stay faithful and do the job he gives us today. Keep faithful, for He has always supplied. Greentwiga |

23 | Should women be ordained? | NT general Archive 1 | greentwiga | 145732
I Tim 5:2 The word is the word for elders, with the feminine ending. The sentance construction compared to 5:1 Shows the typical Jewish doublet, which adds force to translating the vers women elders if 5:1 IS men Elders, which it is. See also Titus 2:3. I Tim 3:11 again can equally well be translated deaconesses. To insist on translating the word as wives is insisting on an interpretation. You can disagree, but it would be a disagreement on interpretation rather than ignoring an absolute statement of scripture. greentwiga |

I have read the contexts carefully. I have studied greek, and do not just read the english. I stated that we would disagree about the interpretation, which we do. I do appreciate your zeal for the word of God, and keep it up. God Bless greentwiga |

26 | chapter 2genesis | Gen 2:10 | greentwiga | 140151
Dear CDBJ; I am a fundamentalist Biblicist and came to the conclusion after delving deep into scriptures. Looking for the four rivers, I realized that the location had to be where fig trees grew. I then homed in on a Mountain in southern Turkey called Karacadag as the location. It divides its watershed into four major rivers or tributaries. Then looking for other biological clues, I saw that Adam was cursed to eat bread by the sweat of his brow. Thus he had to grow wheat. He was also the first farmer. I researched the first domesticated foods (plants of the field) The center of wild lentils is in this area, Chickpeas only grow in this area, but the clincher was wheat. Scientists did a genetic study and concluded that wheat had been domesticated only once, from the wild wheat growing around Karacadag. I insisted that my conclusions agree completely with the Bible, but I prefer if it also agrees reasonably well with all the extra Biblical evidence. Greentwiga |

27 | knowledge of good and evil | Gen 3:1 | greentwiga | 140093
The Hebrew word for evil means useless because it is broken. Other words mean useless because worn out etc. The word for evil is translated wicked when used of breaking the marriage covenant and temple prostitution. It is translated evil when breaking a covenant with God or a business contract. The sin was learning to break covenants, specifically the covenant with God not to eat of the fruit of the tree.
28 | how many years did it take | Gen 6:14 | greentwiga | 140201
I was studying the Bible and realized that it seemed to be saying the Ark was an ocean going reed boat. The ancient Sumerians were experts at these boats and could have built it in a few months. Greentwiga |

gen 3 says God will wait 120 years before destroying the world. 6:10 lists Noah's three sons as having been born. 11:10 says that Shem was 97 when he got on the boat. 6:22 has Noah building the Ark, and 7:1 has Noah getting on the Ark. The building could be anywhere between a few months to 97 years. I was just going by standard boat building techniques, which fit the scenario perfectly. Unless the Bible specifies differently, I use outside sources to understand. The miracle was not styated to be boat building, but the flood DouglasS |

One has to be careful when analyzing a geneology. A variety of geneologies in the Bible get compressed. The geneology of David only lists three people for a fou hundred year period. The geneology of Jesus drops out known names. This was fine in the writers eyes. The term father could mean grandfather, great grandfather, etc. It was also used for other purposes. It was used for the master apprentice relationship as in Gen 4:19-21. Father was also used for the founders of a town or country. Thus it could mean what you said, or the flood could have happened hundreds of years earlier than it seems. each word is true, but our interpretations are not always accurate. Greentwiga |

Dear Pastor Glenn; Look in Matthew 1. Between Uzziah and Jotham, in II Kings 11-15 and II Chron 22-27, there was Ahaziah, Joash, Amaziah, Azariah (Uzziah) and Jotham. The only one mentioned is Uzziah. Also missing is Jehoaikim. Now Joash, Amaziah and Jotham all were said to do right. Some much more wicked kings are kept in. Still, I acknowledge that the mention of ate age of birth makes it more unlikely that people were dropped out. I am willing to question interpretations, but I will not question the word. That is why I consider the possibility. What does bother me is people who try to make the flood the Black Sea Catastrophe. That requires ignoring parts of the story. Whether Abraham heard it directly or through many generations doesn't matter. Each and every word is true, Just as is the much more ancient story of Adam and Eve. What is really important about the Story of Noah is why He destroyed the world, Wickedness (covenant with spouse breaking), Evil (covenant with God breaking), corruption (bribes), and violence (war). This condemns our generation also. Jesus has every reason to return soon and end this system, for we are no better. You are right, whether some were left out of the geneology or not could get into violating Titus 3:9 Greentwiga |

That is interesting. I have studied Noah extensively, yet there is always something more to glean from scriptures. Luke does indicate that at least one name was left out of the geneology in Genesis (and in Chronicles). This is despite how Genesis makes it look like no names were left out. Greentwiga |

I prefer to believe that we have at least one extant manuscript with the right original words. Is there any ancient manuscripts that leave out the name Canain? Otherwise I must conclude that God deliberately included the name in Luke. Once we start assuming there are errors in all extant manuscripts, we have started down a slippery slope. Greentwiga |

Your site shows that the p75 copy of Luke, the oldest known copy also omits Cainan. This is even better evidence than that of the LXX. Thanks for the info. Greentwiga |

EdB Thanks for the encouragement. I believe in changing my theology to fir the scriptures, not changing scriptures to fit my theology. In this case, Glenn referred me to a site that listed the oldest known copy of Luke. It omitted Cainan, which strengthened his point. All the external evidence seems to point to Noah's flood happening right near 3000 BC, but I must consider the Bible pointing to either this time or to the 2200 BC/2400 BC time pointed to by the interpretation omitting Cainan. Very well put. I was looking at your kind comment earlier about dating, and thought about the date for Abraham. Realized it is based on 966 BC for Solomon, which is based on outside sources for the Mede and Persian Kings. Greentwiga |

There is some doubt about some of the Persian kings existance. If a few years were dropped out, the 70 weeks of Daniel might fit the coming of Jesus. Thus I have questions about using the secular dates. Thanks for the reply. Greentwiga |

Thank you. The ones that I have seen try to go with the current persian chronology rather than consider that mistakes have been made. I'll look at the ones you suggested. I don't like the other attempts. Greentwiga |

It has taken me time to research. Slowly I add clues. One fact is that there are all sorts of business records that are dated by the various kings. Some kings have no records, and others have no records after a certain year despite our belief that he reigned more years. The length of the reigns of the kings mentioned in the Bible can be dated to the year, the month and sometimes the day, just by business records. The doubtful kings are said to have reigned after the Biblically recorded ones. There is a total of 77 years that are doubtful. The same time period in Egypt and Greece also has major problems with the dating. If about 27 years of the 77 years were added in, Daniels 69 weeks would go from the decree to Jesus much better. I am still studying the times. Even so, the end of the captivity until the decree in question is undated in the Bible and we still need to rely on outside sources. Even the dating of Jesus death still uses outside sources, but at least this is much better documented. |
