21 | Why do we delay baptism, not His Supper? | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 216771
God's day to you, Justme, Communion should be open to all believers, after they examine themselves (1Co 11:23ff). Nowhere in Scripture is the qualification of being baptized first. Questions for you as you study ... -Are believers part of the body of believers the moment they are saved? -Are believers part of the body of Christ the moment they are saved? -Are believers by the Spirit the moment they are saved? ... if we cannot answer yes toeach one, are new believers second class until they do something or reach a certain understanding? No one has ever given me a solid Biblical answer to wait for external baptism. No one has an answer about the book of Acts, where six of the seven conversion experiences the believers were baptized the same day believed, ... and why we we wait. The exception was Paul. Justme, I had this thought as I was typing the previous post to you. If ensuring "genuine belief" is the reason, then should the church stop people from "going forward" ... I am thnking more for those who are saved outside the four walls. After all, they may be making a false confession. At communion we examine ourseleves, not the pastor. Searcher |

God's day to you, Doc, I am confused. It is you who thought Francis Roberts was a Purtian (ID# 217401). The Frances Roberts that Mike mentioned is his grandmother (ID# 217451). Why are you pushing the Purtian Roberts? I believe you are wrong and owe Mike an apology. Next time do a little research. Or am I wrong? Searcher |

31 | help me understand Gods harsh punishment | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 220317
God's day to you, yburnette, and welcome to the SBF, It is not harsh, God demands perfection. I think of this of being perfect, that is obeying God always, except for one time. That one sin would keep us out of Heaven. Moses disobeyed, this once, at least ... so he didn't get to enter the Promised Land. All the others did sin more, but God doesn't grade on a curve. God demands perfection. Joshua and Caleb were exceptions. Searcher |

32 | how public should i be in the church? | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 220516
God's day to you, vnct blzn, You are obligated to follow the law of the land, you are subject to their authority (Rom 13:1ff). If you take a stand like 2Peter and the other apostles did in Acts 5:29, "We must obey God rather than men!" ... you need to be sure. Some court records are public others are not. Searcher |

God's day to you, CDBJ, Even if we add ... ... Psalm 109:25 I also have become a reproach to them; when they see me, they wag their head. ... Matthew 27:39-44 39 And those passing by were hurling abuse at Him, wagging their heads 40 and saying, "You who are going to destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross." 41 In the same way the chief priests also, along with the scribes and elders, were mocking Him and saying, 42 "He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him. 43 "HE TRUSTS IN GOD; LET GOD RESCUE Him now, IF HE DELIGHTS IN HIM; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.'" 44 The robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words. ... also Mark 15:29-32 I don't "taunt" ... I was looking for the word. Moreover, the passage quoted is not about any harsh words. It was a challenge to the poster, who may not answer either of us. Searcher |

God's day to you, Inquisitor, You said "But it's still quite a quandry to me. These people, at least MOST of the ones I've seen here on the Forum ask sincere questions based on scripture and MOST of the time, all they get in response is name-calling." Emphasis mine. Continuting ... If I call someone a Campellite, I do so not as a term of derision, but because that is how they are labeled. There are several groups that have roots in the Campells, though they say they are followers of Jesus, not Campbell. Lutherans and other groups point to Matrin Luther as being an important person. But, again, if the foundation is not Christ, what are they? Searcher |

38 | Text Clarification | Bible general Archive 4 | Searcher56 | 224783
God's day to you, Doc, I think you a right ... it is a general categorical fashion that we should associate the beast as the (not an) antichrist. There is both many antichrists and singular the antichrist (1Jn 2:18). The beast decieves (Rev 19:20) as does the antichrist (2Jh 1:7) ... but there are many deceivers (2Jh 1:7). Searcher |
