Having been on the losing side of the marijuanna debate I am now completely convinced that it is sin and I can now longer entain the thought of a positive defense I humbly bow in retreat. Thank you again all of you for the lively discussion. Check out this article which is a true debate on the issue and he is a true Christian his argument is against the use of marijaunna by Christians.. it was very persuading. I can no logically debate this topic with my pot smoking Christian friends. Thank you again all of you and please let's move on. We have taken up too much space on this already. One Toke Over the Line By Douglas Wilson http://www.christkirk.com/images/Marijuana.html "But suppose this is granted, but a further question is asked. What about the fellow who is not wiped out? He smokes marijuana but remains (at least in his own mind) fully functional. He grants that "drunkenness" is always wrong, but denies that marijuana has to produce "drunkenness." Why cannot cannabis provide an equivalent experience to wine gladdening the heart of man? We have to look at this argument carefully. We have seen that drunkenness is flatly prohibited by Scripture, but we have to recognize that other uses of alcohol are approved and encouraged throughout the Bible. In order to do this, we must back up. According to the Bible, alcohol has at least five lawful scriptural uses. Let's look at each, and see if there is a parallel to marijuana at that point. The last one we will consider is the "gladden the heart" argument." SEE ARTICLE FOR THE WHOLE DISCUSSION. |

The folowing is a quote from a larger article at: ******http://www.christkirk.com/images/Marijuana.html********** One Toke Over the Line By Douglas Wilson "In some places, the standards have simply collapsed. This is nothing other than old-fashioned backsliding, and it is common in modern evangelical circles. But in the midst of this general ethical slide, another phenomenon has appeared, one which is still comparatively rare. In the Reformed world, some have taken the banner of Christian liberty and have begun to wave it in favor of certain practices that would once have been rejected out of hand. One prime example of this is the idea (now current with some) that smoking marijuana in moderation is part of Christian liberty and no more to be rejected than enjoying a glass of wine at dinner." "Christian Liberty A classic statement of the meaning of Christian liberty is found in Chapter XX of the Westminster Confession of Faith. Because the "Christian liberty defense" of marijuana smoking is coming from what might be called the flotsam and jetsam of the Reformed world, I am beginning with the historic Reformed statement of the doctrine. At first glance, this might seem like an odd place to begin a discussion of smoking dope, but it actually makes a good deal of sense. Christian liberty is a fine-sounding phrase and rolls easily off the tongue. But our fathers in the faith were not as enamored of slogans as we are and have dealt thoroughly with the deeper ramifications of all this. We should consider their words carefully and learn from them when we ask, "What should we mean, exactly, by Christian liberty?" The first paragraph of this chapter in the Confession establishes the doctrinal foundation of all that follows. The liberty which Christ hath purchased for believers under the Gospel consists in their freedom from the guilt of sin, the condemning wrath of God, the curse of the moral law (Tit. 2:14; 1 Thess. 1:10; Gal. 3:13); and, in their being delivered from this present evil world, bondage to Satan, and dominion of sin (Gal. 1:4; Col. 1:13; Acts 26:18; Rom. 6:14); from the evil of afflictions, the sting of death, the victory of the grave, and everlasting damnation (Rom. 8:28; Ps. 119:71; 1 Cor. 15:54-57; Rom. 8:1); as also, in their free access to God (Rom. 5:1-2), and their yielding obedience unto Him, not out of slavish fear, but a child-like love and willing mind (Rom. 8:14-15; 1 John 4:18). All which were common also to believers under the law (Gal. 3:9, 14). But, under the new testament, the liberty of Christians is further enlarged, in their freedom from the yoke of the ceremonial law, to which the Jewish Church was subjected (Gal. 4:1-3, 6-7; 5:1; Acts 15:10-11); and in greater boldness of access to the throne of grace (Heb. 4:14, 16; Heb. 10:19-22), and in fuller communications of the free Spirit of God, than believers under the law did ordinarily partake of (John 7:38-39; 2 Cor. 3:13, 17-18)." |

Lord God we thank You for Tim Moran's heart for his daughter. We also know that You love her too and You Father know where she is and how she is as well as her baby. I pray Lord that You send Your Holy Spirit to comfort my friend Tium and his wife. I pray that You get her cleaned up from the inside out. I pray that she come to know Your Son Jesus Christ. I am not defending pot use I am trying to discuss it objectively...yes I am a former abuser of many drugs. I wanted to put this discussion out here to see how we viewed it compared with wine. I am only putting down the arguments which I have been engaged in with friends and family who regularly use marijuanna. I would also like to end this discussion as i have exhausted my point many times and still have been misunderstood. My intent is not to glorify pot... my intent was to compare it to wine. -Jeshuafreak

I thought I should comment that this debate has been interesting...as I know many confessed Christians who do smoke it, eat it and drink tea from it for various maladies. I wanted to see if this forum would be able to give me any objective council and tellme something I had not already said or discussed with these individuals. So far I have not heard anything new. I believe my point was missed also. thatis fine though. There are more noble discussions than this one. -Jeshuafreak

Tim Moran you wrote "One can claim all kinds of legitimate uses for pot, but the simple fact is that when smoked it is a mind altering and addictive drug. It also is a gateway drug, breaking down the barriers to even harder drugs." My friend I am sorry bout your daughter , I posted earlier about impressionable youth. This is quite unfortunate. I have a sister in law that is hooked on that drug...I am not promoting drugs here. I am attempting to get us to look at this God made plant in a different light. The enmy has perverted all of God's creation in one way or another. Again i am sorry for offending you if I have. -Jeshuafreak |

Indeed...I apreciate your comments. I appreciate your objectivity. I am trying to get us to all think about the big picture and the real issue. The issue is not I want to smoke pot so I need a good excuse. I will smoke it whether or not it is illegal. I have access and I don't have to support the black market. The point is and has been from the beginning is ..what is the motivation? Is it beneficial for some to use ? Regardless of what we have been brought up to believe there remains a choice. If it causes a person to stumble it is not good for them. I wouldn't invite a vegetarian over to have shepherd's pie or meatloaf. THIS HAS BEEN AN INTERESTING DEBATE, NONE THE LESS....-jeshuafreak

Joe- I am agreement with you on the fact that what is said in scripture is truth and there is no budging on that which is plain. Obviously we can't cheat on our wives or rob banks . I am only comparing a small amount of pot to a glass of wine. In my homble opinion I see no difference. Both are harmless in small amounts. This is my opinion and I don't think scripture speaks against this. We are to be soberminded and not drunk with wine. The application is obvious. We are not to be stoned on pot either. Well I can tell you that for some individuals can smoke it or eat without it making them "drunk". Let each man decide whether they can or not. -Jeshuafreak |

I sympathize with you about your son. Young people are very impressionable. I believe that if it was lagalized for those 21 and over, like alcohol, it would help to keep it out of the hands of our maturing teens. I will still say that I believe there is nothing wrong with marijuana... it is the person who takes it to extremes. It is our sinfulness that prompts us to seek after the counterfeit. We end up worshipping the creation rather than the Creator, and that is idolatry. Would be having this discussion if it were about whether or not we as Christians can drink wine? -Jeshuafreak |

Marijuana should be classified as an herb likened to St. John's Wort or Kava. There are many herbs whos properties give a relaxing affect or restore energy. Valerian root is a great sleep aid and stress reducer. My opinion is that Marijuanna has a stigma attached to it. Everyone has seen the propaganda film REEFER MADNESS or watched too many Cheech and Chong movies. I suggest EVERYONE DO THEIR HOMEWORK BEFORE criticizing something they don't understand. God has given us the wonderful versaltile plant to use. The seeds contain omega 3 fatty acids, can be preesed for oil for food or used for fuel. The fibrous stalk was once used for rope in this country, you ever heard of HEMP? It's the same plant. The leaves and buds can be made into a tea, or yes smoked. It is better to eat it or drink it in a tea than to smoke. My own dad is able to have it medicinally for his back, as well as a close friend of my wife. This comes down to preference. I did not grow up having a stigma against Marijuanna. It was and still is a usefull plant. Socity needs to take there head out of sand and stop prohibitiion of marijuanna. It puts people in prison unjustly, due to mandatory minimums. A person who rapes or a child molester is doing less time than one who grew a plant for their own use. Another reason to legalize is to cut out the blackmarket, and all the criminals who make tons of money because it is illegal. If it were legal the government could grow it sell it and tax it... but as it stands they make more money with it being illegal also. Are we going to make wine, beer and other forms of alcohol illegal again also? History proves that it doesn't work, people who are told they can't have something want it all the more. I know of people who gre up in families where the meal was accompanied with wine. Everybody drank it even the kids. There was no abuse of it because it was not abused by people in the family, this is very much common in old world families. I have to end this discussion ....THERE IS WAY TOO MUCH CONTRAVERSARY and it divides rather than edifys..... So this is Jeshuafreak signing out of this discussion. DON"T BE PREJUDICE AGAINST YOUR BROTHERS FOOD, DRINK, OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT THEY PUT IN THEIR BODIES...THEIR BODY IS NOT YOURS...DON'T PUT A HEAVEY YOKE ON THEM. READ SONG OF SONGS...****WE MUST ALL GIVE AN ACCOUNT TO GOD FOR OURSELVES AND WHAT WE DID IN THIS LIFE....WHO ARE YOU O'MAN THAT YOU SHOULD JUDGE YOUR BROTHER....LET EACH MAN BE CONVINCED IN HIS OWN CONSCIENCE...YOU DON'T KNOW MY INTENTIONS AND I DON'T KNOW YOURS...ONLY GOD SEES THE INTENTIONS OF OUR HEARTS..... AND BY THE WAY I DO AGREE WITH YOU THAT IT CAN BECOME IDOLATRY....ANYTHING CAN BECOME IDOLATRY... chocolate can become idolatry...if it becomes idolatry for you take it to Jesus He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. He make all things to work together for those who love God and are the called according to His purpose. Gosd will even use our sins and fumbles. He loves us warts and all. Oh how easy it is to get wrapped up in legalism. So much easier to make a list of rules and check them all day instead of submitting our entire lives to God. It is a sad state of afairs when are the ones governing each others behavior, instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to work in each individual. We all have access to the same Word of God and the same Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ our Lord. So we all must search the scriptures ourselves and have the Lord illuminate our hearts and our minds to what He would have us to do.-Jeshuafreak
