Beja, I never did see any source of this business about Nomianism or Antinomianism. Would you mind sharing your source of these concepts? Do you know who originated their "movement"? Thanks for your patience and God bless, Inquisitor |

Another set of scriptures in support: 2 Thes 2: 1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 1 Tim 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. Once again Paul is clearly predicting the coming Apostasy and the cure is once again cited below 2 Tim 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. 14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Thus God's Word must become our dearest possession, deep in our soul and guide our conscience. God's Blessings on you all, Inquisitor |

24 | The error addressed in 2 Peter | Bible general Archive 4 | Inquisitor | 224795
Just giving your verses from 2 Peter a quick scan, it seems we can sum up the overall thought from Peter that he like Paul were VERY much concerned about the church and her direction in the future. They were very much concerned about the coming apostacy or departure from the Truth as revealed by Jesus and His official representatives, the Apostles. In addition to Peter's words, we have Paul's warning to the Ephesian elders in Acts 20:27 For I have not shunned to declare to you the whole counsel of God. 28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. 31 Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears. I believe this whole departure from the "straight and narrow" as Jesus would call it is referred to by historians as the apostacy. A brief intro from the Wikapedia, Apostasy (pronounced /[Greek word]) is the formal religious disaffiliation, abandonment, or renunciation by a person of a religion. One who commits apostasy apostatizes and is an apostate. These terms have a pejorative implication in everyday use. The term is used by sociologists to mean renunciation and criticism of, or opposition to, a person's former religion, in a technical sense and without pejorative connotation. The word derives from a Greek word, (apostasia), meaning a defection or revolt, from [Greek word], apo, "away, apart", [Greek word] stasis, "stand", "standing". The term is sometimes also used to refer to renunciation of a belief or cause by extension of the religious connotation, such as in reference to a political party or (generally facetiously) a sports team. End of Quote... So God installed through the HS the perfect church as described throughout the NT BUT, just as noted by Paul's and Peter's prediction, perfection doesn't last long. It doesn't last long because man is simply NOT inclined to keep God's Law in any dispensation. Jer 10:23 O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. I don't know about all the sub-groups (Antinomianism and all the others) but suffice it to say that whenever man departs from God's Sacred Truth, it is simply known as error. Joshua referred to this tendancy with Josh 1:7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest. 8This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. So mankind in general, but most especialy God's people have shown themselves to be totally unable to abide by His Laws. So we have to rely on His Grace and Mercy if we're covered by the Blood of Jesus and pray every night for forgiveness. In this dispensation we are to adopt the "mind of Christ" 1 Cor 2:16 For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ. Phil 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, And how do we do this adopting of the mind of Christ? Rom 12: 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. 3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. And of course, we must see ourselves as keeping each other sharp with God's Word, learning to weld it as the Sword of God. I hope this helps and I apologize for the size. God bless, Inquisitor |

I think Azure is right on target here. This concept is very much alien to the teaching of the Bible. I don't think there's any scripture to even suggest such a thing. Your friend should be challenged to furnish the verse to which he/she is referring. Thanks be to God you're there to defend His Word, 1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; God bless you in your studies, Inquisitor |

Just one that comes immediately to mind is that of Lazarus and the rich man. Many think this is a parable based with a fictional name then there are a significant portion of others who think this is based on a true story of two individuals who passed on to their Maker. Jesus doesn't give us much help with this quandry. This is the only one of which I can think at the moment, but I'll think on your question and will answer as best as I can. I would have to defer to someone else for an answer to the second question. |

31 | Arguing Among Apostles?? | Gal 2:11 | Inquisitor | 224730
I can only respond with what's in the Bible. In God's Word, we have many, MANY parables from the world's best Teacher, Jesus Himself. He teaches from Parables because He's the best at taking "earthly basic truths from God's Creation and illustrating points of Hevenly Principles or Truths from His Father." Now most of His parables are given so those with a hunger for righteousness (then and now) can see between the lines and appreciate the Teaching as given by our Lord. So that means we must learn to make conclusions, using our minds and gleaning the most important threads in those parables and arrive at the ultimate point to which our Lord is pointing. See Matt 13:10-16. Only with a very few Parables, the Lord is forced to interpret the Parable even to His beloved disciples, i.e. The Sower and the Parable on the wheat and tares, Matt 13. So here the Lord is actually encouraging us to "put two and two together" and come up with the right interpretation. Seems like a sound Biblical Principle to me. The most important conclusion to draw from all this is as you alluded. We MUST make certain we do conclude those things in accordance with the whole NT. Thus we don't have any contradiction within God's Word. This way, we can comply with Paul's words to Timothy. God bless you in your studies, Inquisitor |

I've heard other strange interpretations, including people from the past before Jesus' time and far in His future. So as I said, there's no value in speculating as to whom exactly Jesus is referring. When there's not any Bible commentary to help interpret such an unusual statement, it's best to leave it alone. God bless you all, Inquisitor |

Luke 24:1 Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. 2 But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3 Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4 And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. 5 Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, 7 saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’” 8 And they remembered His words. 9 Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Acts 20:7 Now on the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul, ready to depart the next day, spoke to them and continued his message until midnight. 1 Cor 16: 1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: 2 On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. Now we can easily see why the first day of the week is so important to the first century christians as the Lord rose on that day just as He predicted in accordance with the OT prophecies. Then we see fulfillment of that guidance in the NT with obvious emphasis on the first day of the week in stark contrast to the Sabbath. On the subject of Patterns from our Lord: Phil 3:17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. 1 Tim 1:16 However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life. 2 Tim 1:13 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. Tit 2:6 Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded, 7 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, 8 sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. Heb 8:5 who serve the copy and shadow of the heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, “See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.” 6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. One of the main themes we can see throughout both the OT and the NT is the fact that God has ALWAYS given mankind and His children guidance of one kind or another. For the ark, He gave Noah tremendous detail as He did for the Temple to David and Solomon. We all know about the tedious details (over 600 rules and regulations) God gave with the Law of Moses. BUT in stark contrast with the OT, the NT has minimal details, specific instructions and most of those from the Apostles who were commissioned to represent Christ in the first century, see below*. The decisions they made, i.e. Acts 15 with the blessing of the HS is most powerful. They issued a letter with only 4 restrictions, minimal details in contrast to the OT but of course they MUST be followed. *The Great Commission Matt 28:16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Yes the title of this paragraph, "The Great Commission" is not part of the actual Biblical text but the message is clear. The Lord commissioned these men to represent Him to the world. Check the vast majority of commentaries and you'll see agreement on this concept. The bottom line is that Yes indeed there are Patterns in the NT to guide the Lord's church in this dispensation, the Christian age. I hope this helps in clarifying and God bless, Inquisitor |

If I gave that kind of impression, it's a great big mistake on my part. We CANNOT, we MUST NOT come up with imagination on the guidance as God gave in the NT. NO, NO, NO. Instead we must follow His Sacred Patterns such as the Day of Worship on Sunday, the first day of the week. Also we must imitate and follow the examples of the simple style of the elements of worship. I agree with you entirely. I meant for this discussion to be centered on the fact that we must inspect each other as you have done with me and make certain our words compliment with God's Word. This man of God in 1 Kings 13 (second in sequence) misrepresented God to the other man of God (first one) and he paid for it with his life. So we must see ourselves as vessels (messagers if you will) through which God's Light shines with His Words of salvation and His Son's body, the church. The imagination as mentioned in my post was merely an attempt to help visualize the confrontation between Paul and Peter. Again I agree with you, we MUST NEVER allow this kind of imagination to add to or take away from God's Word. And I would be the last person in the world to designate me as a teacher on this Forum. I hope this clarifies my position on this matter and God bless. Inquisitor |

Searcher, I'm not certain as to how I could improve on the clarity of my post but I'll try. Quoted from my original: What can we learn from this very unusual story from God? What would you say is the most important point for us to apply to our lives? Quoted from my last post: God's MUST always outrank anyone else when it comes to a contrast between two or more different sets of words. We must never let ourselves be swayed by the smooth and swave words of an experienced orator. We see more warnings in 2 Tim 4:1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. We're all on this Forum studying God's Word and bringing to the Forum the fruit of that study. Of course this involves Prov 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. 18 Whoever keeps the fig tree will eat its fruit; So he who waits on his master will be honored. 19 As in water face reflects face, So a man’s heart reveals the man. Sooner or later, each of us reveals our deepest and inner most thoughts on God's Word. Sure we all have our strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully, we're obeying God's commands and trying to maximize those strengths and minimize those weaknesses. Did you have some specific point you're were trying to say in response to my post? In a further attempt to answer your question, I can only encourage you to re-read my whole post again. Do you not agree that we must be on our guard when we see and hear words from our fellow man? Our God is looking for us to give His Word the respect He's due and study everything we encounter in the "religious world." We already know through Paul's prophecy that there will be many, many false teachers from his time to our present and on through the very last day. And the biggest difficulty (in my humble opinion) is the fact they have deceived themselves so effectively that they sound powerful and persuasive. Thus we who are sharpening each other must preach against these false views and concepts. I hope this helps. God bless you, Inquisitor |

Dad (tongue-in-cheek), I'm not certain but it seems you're trying to imply that my post was "speculating outside what has been revealed." Would you care to elaborate and pinpoint which particular statement is in conflict? I try very hard with all of my posts to this Forum to keep my statements within the bounderies of God's Word, or at least His Intent. Surely you don't think our Lord forbids us to use our imagination when He leaves out some of the details in His stories. I'm hoping to walk away from this thread of dicsussion with some encouragement. Do you have any such words for me? God bless you, Inquisitor |

39 | Arguing Among Apostles?? | Gal 2:11 | Inquisitor | 224656
Lionheart, Doc and 108cious, I sincerely appreciate all of your responses; they're all very good points to this rather interesting story. I was trying to go for something much bigger, at least in my humble opinion. Let me explain. I like to use my imagination to try and make these kinds of scenes in the Bible come alive. Now imagine in the Christian world at that time, the big and famous Peter, so called leader of the church in Jerusalem coming to Antioch. Then Paul approaches Peter (hopefully like it's been mentioned), and begins talking about this subject in subdued tones or maybe they talked about it previously. Anyway, it's obvious that Peter has a real problem switching over to this whole new idea of ALL of the full benefits of Christianity being extended to everyone, including Gentiles. And this is true in spite of God's Personal Revelation to Peter in Acts 10. Now we all know that both Peter and Paul are endowed with miraculous knowledge and powers of self control from the Holy Spirit. But it seems the HS is allowing the whole world to find out about this problem. In other words, the HS wanted Peter to find out on his own as he is famously a little bit stubborn about learning things. We know this from his past. Well where else could we could go for a Bible based commentary on this most unusual strategy from the Holy Spirit? Where else does He let the Apostles experience this kind of "learning on their own" and walk on their own? The biggest scene of which I can think is that of the famous letter issued in Acts 15. All of us know the scene pretty well. Paul has brought the situation to the elders in Jerusalem for resolution as he should. Judiazers (sp?) are messing up everything by insisting on Christians being circumcized in order to be truly pleasing to God. This is the first major crisis for these christian leaders to deal with on nation-wide scale. They know what they decide will set a precendent and will be followed for all time. What a powerful opportunity to come up with a gradiose creed, something what they experienced with the famous Law of Moses. And what do these great and noble leaders do? Well first they pray to God for guidance and then after much discussion, they issued a very humble letter with merely four restrictions. You know what they are or you can re-read Acts 15 for a reminder. But my point is, they humbled themselves and minimized this guidance, taking special pains to avoid ALL the business about circumcision. This point I'm making includes the fact the HS allowed us mankind (christians really) to make up our minds about how the church was to proceed and handle these kinds of problems. In other words, they held up these gentlemen (Apostles) with miraculous powers like we hold up our children and then let them learn to walk on their own. God, Jesus and HS were all in this together and let us mankind do our own thing and thanks be to God, these Apostles were humble enough to minimize their spirit and chose solid Godly guidance from centuries past. That's the wonderful point I'm trying to showcase. What a wonderful development: God wants all of us to graduate from His Micro-management as in the OT and see ourselves as mature children of God. He wants us to keep trying our best to imitate His Son and His Lifestyle, His Way of Thinking with "What would Jesus do." Now back to Galatians. Yes indeed Doc and 108cious make a good point. 108cious, I think I finally get the point of your name: It's tenicious...correct? Yes, in Gal 6:1, we are to follow Paul's instruction in correcting our fellow man or christian. We have to assume Paul did follow this procedure with Peter; it's just not recorded as we didn't need to know, according to God. So Peter and most probably ALL the Jewish christians had a very difficult time with this business of allowing Gentiles into the Family of God with ALL the benefits. Much like our country is having difficulties with prejudices in many different quandrants of our nation. Mankind has always had this problem but we're working on it, right? To the best of our ability. AND let's not forget that Paul and Peter are reconciled as brothers. Peter even acknowledges Paul's superior handling of God's Word. 2 Pet 3:14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; 15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation—as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, 16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. Well, I appreciate your allowing me to share. God bless, Inquisitor |

40 | Paradise vs. Heaven | John 20:17 | Inquisitor | 224654
We're not given any idea of the details on the actual "places" of Paradise or Hades. It seems pretty clear from the scriptures that they are a "holding pattern" for the souls who have passed on, waiting for the ultimate Judgment Day for all of us. In answer to your second question: Yes, we modern people or christians even might says "we're going to Heaven" after the passing of our lives and ultimately that may be true depending on the Judgment from our Father. But in reality, those that know their Bible should know about this information on Paradise and Hades. On the third question: Personally, I don't believe Paradise or Hades is on earth or is even a physical place. Since we're talking about Lazarus and the rich man AFTER their passing, we're referring to their souls in speaking to Jesus. Thus Paradise and Hades must be a spiritual sort of "place" or really a state of being. That's about all I know on this subject; we'll just have to wait on getting further details. Hope this helps. God bless. Inquisitor |
