21 | Galatians 5:4 | Gal 5:4 | james210 | 132699
There are two ways to have salvation: 1. Fulfill the Law - this is impossible 2. God's Grace through Jesus Christ Looking at the first part of the verse, Paul is adressing those who are trying to earn their salvation by fulfilling the Law. Paul then states that since they are trusting in themselves to earn salvation, they are not trusting in God's grace. Eph 2:8 says "BY grace you are saved..." |

22 | a more revealing light. | 1 John 2:3 | james210 | 132628
1 John 2:3-6 says: "And this is how we may discern [daily, by experience] that we are coming to know Him [to perceive, recognize, understand, and become better acquainted with Him]: if we keep (bear in mind, observe, practice) His teachings (precepts, commandments). Whoever says, I know Him [I perceive, recognize, understand, and am acquainted with Him] but fails to keep and obey His commandments (teachings) is a liar, and the Truth [of the Gospel] is not in him. But he who keeps (treasures) His Word [who bears in mind His precepts, who observes His message in its entirety], truly in him has the love of and for God been perfected (completed, reached maturity). By this we may perceive (know, recognize, and be sure) that we are in Him: Whoever says he abides in Him ought [as a personal debt] to walk and conduct himself in the same way in which He walked and conducted Himself." How do we know that we're saved? First we look at see if we have put our faith in Christ as Savior (Eph 2:8-9). Then, we can look at the 'fruit' we bear. The above passage from 1 John says that we can know we are saved by if we keep God's commandments. This keeping of God's commandments is not for salvation, but from salvation. Pray that God will remove all doubt from your mind that you are saved. Although God commands everyone to repent, remember that He is the one that gives you the ability to do so through faith in Jesus Christ: "Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!" 2 Corinthians 5:17 When we repent, we confess and forsake our sins in an effort to turn away from them and turn towards Christ. This does not mean that we will never sin again (Romans 7:14-25), nor does it mean we have earned our salvation (Romans 3:27-28). I hope this makes sense and helps. |

23 | Who are "they" in this verse? | Acts 5:12 | james210 | 132556
It looks like 'they' refers to the apostles. The only other possibility that I see would that 'they' could be referring to the people, but it would not make sense for all the people to agree to meet together at the covered porch. Read with verse 13, this makes sense.
24 | The ransom - God or man? | 1 Cor 15:21 | james210 | 132476
"Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Before Abraham was, I am." John 8:58 "I and my Father are one." John 10:30 "But if I do, though you believe not me, believe the works: that you may know and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him." John 10:38 "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak to you I speak not of myself but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works." John 14:10 "That the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one." John 17:22 "Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers, all things were created by him, and for him." Colossians 1:15,16 "For in him dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." Colossians 2:9 "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seens of angels, preached to the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory." 1 Timothy 3:16 "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, Has in these last days spoken to us by his Son, whom he has appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;" Hebrews 1:1-3 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him, and without him was not any thing made that was made." John 1:1-3 |

25 | Christian Voting? | Gen 47:20 | james210 | 132360
I agree with you. We should definately vote and vote Biblical principles. Even if we don't like the main two candidates running there are always Christian third party candidates. But that's a debate for another forum.
26 | Where are all the saints that dies after | 1 Thess 4:13 | james210 | 132314
Currently it would seem they are in Paradise, waiting for the bodily resurrection of all believers, when both those that are alive and dead in Christ shall meet Him in the air. 1 Thess. 4:13-17 Now also we would not have you ignorant, brethren, about those who fall asleep [in death], that you may not grieve [for them] as the rest do who have no hope [beyond the grave]. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will also bring with Him through Jesus those who have fallen asleep [in death]. For this we declare to you by the Lord's [own] word, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord shall in no way precede [into His presence] or have any advantage at all over those who have previously fallen asleep [in Him in death]. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud cry of summons, with the shout of an archangel, and with the blast of the trumpet of God. And those who have departed this life in Christ will rise first. Then we, the living ones who remain [on the earth], shall simultaneously be caught up along with [the resurrected dead] in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so always (through the eternity of the eternities) we shall be with the Lord! |

27 | God's view of Masturbation | Matt 5:28 | james210 | 132300
Often, if not everytime, lustful thoughts will accompany it. God says that lust is the same as adultery, and that we should not commit adultery. "Whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Matt 5:28 "Thou shalt not commit adultery." Ex 20:14 I hope this helps. |

29 | What is the light in Genesis 1:3? | Gen 1:3 | james210 | 132275
The word 'light' seems to be used in two different ways. First in Genesis 1:3 God created 'light', the electromagnetic energy that is visible to the naked eye. In Genesis 1:14-18, He seems to be referring to sources of light (sun, moon, stars) when using the term 'light'. "Let there be LIGHTS (plural)" Gen 1:14. A good analogy would be for me to turn on a light (a lamp, etc) that emits light (the actual energy that we see). It may seem strange that God created light sources after He created light, but after this age has ended, we will no longer need those light sources (sun, moon, stars) because His glory will be our light. "And the city has no need of the sun nor of the moon to give light to it, for the splendor and radiance (glory) of God illuminate it, and the Lamb is its lamp." Revelation 21:23 |

31 | What is your opinion on this? | Gal 5:6 | james210 | 132169
It seems to me that Paul means we cannot earn our salvation by our own works. Galatians 5:6 (KJV) says, "For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love". So, being circumcised does not mean that you're saved, AND not being circumisiced does not mean your saved. Only faith in Christ will allow you to accept God's gift of salvation. If one tries to fulfill the Law (in order to earn salvation) by circumisicion (or any other work), he can't stop there - he must fulfill the WHOLE Law (Gal 5:3). According to Scripture, no one can fulfill the whole Law (Romans 3:10). Paul clears this up even more in Romans 2:25-29 (AMP): "Circumcision does indeed profit if you keep the Law; but if you habitually transgress the Law, your circumcision is made uncircumcision. So if a man who is uncircumcised keeps the requirements of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be credited to him as [equivalent to] circumcision? Then those who are physically uncircumcised but keep the Law will condemn you who, although you have the code in writing and have circumcision, break the Law. For he is not a [real] Jew who is only one outwardly and publicly, nor is [true] circumcision something external and physical. But he is a Jew who is one inwardly, and [true] circumcision is of the heart, a spiritual and not a literal [matter]. His praise is not from men but from God." |

32 | Is the 7th "day" still going on? | Heb 4:6 | james210 | 132071
Exodus 20:8-11 (KJV) says: "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." God said that he 'rested' on the seventh day. He did not say that he 'rests' on the seventh day. Many argue that the days in Genesis 1:1 were long periods of time, not literal days, and that right now we're in the seventh period of time. Here, God Himself is saying that he was giving us an example on how we should live our lives. He didn't say that he did it in long periods of time and that we should do it in days. He said what He did (in days), we should do (in days). Moses gave this Commandment to Israel and they followed it. If God meant long periods of time, he would have rebuked Israel for not understanding the Commandment. Indeed, if God is resting right now, that means He is not doing anything at all, but we know that He certainly worked when He died on the cross. Although God ceased from the work of creation (Heb 4:10), that doesn't mean he didn't work on something else afterward His rest. He destroyed the world with water, gave the Law to Moses, gave visions to prophets, sent His Son, died, resurected His Son, and then sent His Spirit to us all after this. I believe the rest that the author of Hebrews is referring to, is the rest from striving to earn our salvation. Once we are saved, we cease from our own works (Heb 4:3,10), and then work for God. |

33 | Will baptism alone save us? | Rom 8:9 | james210 | 131998
There are two types of baptism: by water, and by the Spirit. I believe you are referring to water baptism. Water baptism does not even play a part in salvation, much less save us in itself. Ephesians 2:8-9 says: "For it is by free grace (God's unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law's demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.]" God's grace, and that alone saves us. Our faith does not save us, but it is the means by which we accept God's gift. If we add any requirement to salvation (such as baptism), we are saying that we can earn our salvation. The above verses refute that assertion. Also note that the thief on the cross next to Jesus was not baptized, yet Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43) |

34 | Judges 19:29 When he entered his house, | Judg 19:29 | james210 | 131997
The Levite explains that the reason for sending parts of his concubine out is because of the crime that was committed It seems he wanted all of Israel to know what happened. Judges 20:6 says, "I took my concubine and cut her in pieces and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel, for they have committed abomination and [wicked] folly in Israel." It also seems to be a call to arms for Israel to inact justice on those who committed this act. The act wasn't just against the concubine, but against all of Israel. This may be why he sent out twelve pieces - one for each tribe (although, the Benjamites would not cooperate and turn over the criminals). Judges 20:8-10 explains... "And all the people arose as one man, saying, Not any of us will go to his tent, and none of us will return to his home. But now this we will do to Gibeah: we will go up by lot against it, And we will take ten men of 100 throughout all the tribes of Israel, and 100 of 1,000, and 1,000 out of 10,000, to bring provisions for the men, that when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin they may do to them according to all the [wicked] folly which they have committed in Israel." |
