21 | A DEBATE ON GIVING TO GOD | Rom 14:22 | The Berean | 47757
For Friend #1 That does not deal with money period! When you read the entire chapter it deals with Judgement, not money. Many people use this as a means to promote giving money...Tithing has nothing to do with money. Money was never tithed anywhere in the Bible and I can prove it. No Christian ever tithed after the resurrection of Christ in the New Testament and I can prove that to. Tithing was a means of supporting the Levites (who served at the temple), the widows and orphans who couldn't take care of themselves. You miss the entire point of giving if you are so worry about getting a tax break. You have to ask your selves why am I practicing an Old Testament Ceremonial Law, but not the other Laws as well? Galatians 3:10 says "For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; fo it is WRITTEN, Cursed be everyone who does not abide by ALL THINGS WRITTEN in the Book of the Law, and DO them. If you are gonna practice tithing, then what about circumcision and the other laws mentioned? Remember Christ came so that we may not be under those regulations, but that our Holy Spirit filled souls can do works that come from our heart. One thing I suggest you both do is get a strong's concordance and look up the word tithes, tithe and tithing. Both of you study each chapter it relates to and then ask yourself why I am debating over how much I can give. The NT principle for giving is found in 2 Corinthians 9:7, Each one must give as HE has made up in his MIND, not RELUCTANTLY or under COMPULSION. Read also Mark 12:41-44, the Parable about the Widow's offering. There is really nothing to debate as far as giving...just give what God has purposed in your heart, don't worry about what the next person is doing. Jesus also says in Matt 22:15 that you oughta just give Caeser (Government) what is owed him and God's what is given to HIm. If you give or don't give, an ALL MIGHTY GOD can and will accomplish HIS WILL. Be Blessed Marcus |

23 | WHAT IS GODS PRAYER? | Matt 6:9 | The Berean | 47408
If you are speaking of a specific kind of prayer, there really isn't one. However Jesus told the disciples to pray in such a way..See Matthew 6:8-13. The prayer itself can be fit in to this meaningful way ACTS A-adoration, C-confession, T-thanksgiving, S-supplication. You'll find all this in Matt 6:8-13

25 | are we as christians only to drink water | 1 Tim 3:8 | The Berean | 47404
Whoa! The Bible says nothing about drinking anything other than water. The Word does warn about being drunk and becoming intoxicated...yet at the same time not saying do not indulge in wine period. Now for other things such a liquor (like Whiskey, vodka) which didn't exist at the time you have to use your wisdom and understanding. Why would I want to drink that stuff? Too much alcohol and ruin your kidney...hey too many hamburgers can clog your arteries! So you have to be wise in everything we do. Now if you have a problem with any sort of activity and it bothers you then don't participate in it. Also if you know any one who has a drinking problem, the last thing you would want to do is give them a drink. Jesus' first miracle was turning water into wine. One thing I suggest you do is study the bible with a Strong's Concordance. It will help you locate words and references to help you in your study. The danger many of us face today is we don't test what we here over the pulpits. Show this verse to your teacher after you have studied it (1 Timothy 5:23) It says the exact opposite of what you are asking. Now it is reference to ailments etc. Also ask them to clarify by "strong drink". See Deut 14:26 as well. I hope I haven't said too much. Yours in Christ. |

26 | Who or what are the tithes for? | Bible general Archive 1 | The Berean | 47206
The tithes were to support the functions of the Levitcal Priesthood, the orphans and the widows. It was not for maintenance of the temple (church) as some would believe today. Money was never tithed in the OT or NT. Only the holy things of God..i.e. produce from the Land, all agricultural products. Read Duet 14:22-29. The Levites did not have an inheritance...thus God commanded the Isrealties to support them by tithing. However if you were unable to bring your tithe to the place of worship, God commanded you to turn the tithe into MONEY so that you may spend it on anythng your heart desires. Tithing was a simple way of God instructing the nation to care for the levites who conduct temple service and those who could not support themselves...i.e. widows and orphans. In today's times we are taught that tithing is still mandated by God...well the only scripture we hear of is Mal 3:8. We never here any other scripture in the pulpits when it comes to tithing. And still that verse is talking about food only. In the NT and after the resurrection of Christ, tithing is not mandated. We are called to give the best we have to God and the church, whatever that may be. Do the research for yourself...try to find out if tithing was ever in the form of money and if it was used for the maintenance of the temple. If you'd like to discuss more..just let me know and I'll show you what the BIBLE says about tithing. Not what our doctrines teach today.

28 | Can we define giving in terms of taking? | Acts 20:35 | The Berean | 46822
Yes I have given plenty...money, time, compassion etc. In some instances I did not recieve anything back immediately. However the point of our example as christians is humbleness. We ought to not expect anything back. God of course will reward you, either here on earth or in heaven. Luke 6:35 puts it plainly for us all. The point of us giving is not a condition to recieve anything. God also states in Job 41:11 Who has given to Me that I should repay him? Anything that I recieve is by God's Grace and Mercy, because I surely don't deserve it. I hope this helps. Yours in Christ.

31 | is masterbation a sin? | Galatians | The Berean | 43130

32 | would it be wrong if... | Galatians | The Berean | 43127
The best thing you can tell someone is to be careful. Show them the dangers, like how many out there are killed because of drunkeness. I used to drink heavily in my college days...and regret every minute of it. But now I have better control of what I drink and when and where. I don't have the strong desire to drink beer or wine like i did 10 years ago. I sometimes have wine with my dinner and it is just me and my wife. No one else knows and it is in our own home....now I would think twice about ordering a glass in public, because one we have our daughter with us and we drove to the restaurant...so thinking about your actions is key..we have to have wisdom and understanding in everything we do.
33 | Is debt cancelation for today? | Deut 15:1 | The Berean | 41834
No way! First of all any OT laws are not applicable today. Jesus Christ died and rose again to rid those laws. If you follow one and not the other you are guilty of the whole law..Galatians 3:24-25 Therefore the LAW has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. Christ commands us to be good stewards of what we have..even it if means debt. Matt 22-21 says Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's; and to God the things that are God's. In other words any debt you owe i.e. the goverment in taxes or anything else..it is our christian responsibility to pay it back...I know from experience. Today's Creditor's won't buy Deut 15 from you.
34 | Why would someone get rebaptised? | Bible general Archive 1 | The Berean | 41833
Well you won't find any scripture regarding being baptised twice. Also when you get baptised you do not recieve salvation. It is not by works you have been saved but by grace Ephesians 2:8-9. Baptisim is a work in a way. It is ONLY an acknowledgement that you have received Christ in your life. So salvation comes first..then baptism as an acknowledgement to fellow believers. Romans 10:9 doesn't mention being baptised as a means of salvation. It is nothing more than symbolism of being saved. Hope this helps.
35 | Hebrews 6:6 explained | Hebrews | The Berean | 41830
This is a challenging question. Many folks refer to it as a way to lose your salvation. But that cannot be..if so then we have a contradiction in scripture. Read Luke 15:11-32. This is about the prodigal son who returns home to his father. As an illustration to us all Jesus allows for our repentance by the remission of his blood for our sins. However some of us can 'act' saved but not really know him. So thus since salvation wasn't apparent, then Hebrews 6:6 could apply. Look at the scripture further and its writing...it says 'tasted' of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit. As an anology how many times have you tasted something knowing that it was good for you, yet you spit it out without consuming it? Verse 7 says god provides the rain yet good plants and thorns grow as well. They all received the same water..yet our reception of it was different. I suggest you read the entire book of Hebrews! It is one of the most excellent books in the bible in my opinion.
36 | Is the Promised Land the Israel of today | Hebrews | The Berean | 41827
Hebrews 11:9 Says By faith he (Abraham) lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise. I know it is a difficult question to answer amidst the problems in the middle east. But as a Christian you have to realize that all of the Old Testament promises and Laws were pointing to Jesus Christ. Matthew 5:17 says "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the PROPHETS; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill." When Israel gained statehood in 1948, prophecy had been fulfilled. Also read Ephesians 2:11-15. It talks about the differences between jews of Israel and gentiles and why Christ came to redeem us. This may help you understand a little. But overall the situation with muslims and jews and christians will always be complex and tense...which is why we ought to be ready for Christs return.
37 | May we claim rewards for tithing? | Mal 3:10 | The Berean | 41734
First of all this is talking about food..agriculture. You therefore can't take it literally. God chooses to bless those on his own accord. We have to remember at that time the nation of israel still did not trust completely in God. Even after all the miracles and directions he guided them in. Job 41:11 says Who has a claim against me that I must pay? Everything under heaven belongs to me. God rewards those for being faithful to him...and it is not always in the form of money. It shouldn't be monetary compensation all the time. The greatest reward you have is SALVATION! And that was free! God also says in Proverbs 22:2 that the rich and poor have one thing in common...he is the maker of them both. So as you can see God does all the blessing...and even if you are poor by todays standards and are a believer...you are still RICH in our Lord JESUS CHRIST. Mj |

38 | Tithes into the storehouse | Mal 3:10 | The Berean | 41732
Giving is a gift from God. It really doesn't matter if you give 5 percent to your church home and then 5 percent to someone else. We are all ONE BODY in CHRIST. Our hearts should not be focused on the legalism of giving. We must remember that the Holy Spririt doesn't need your money to do the work of God. When you think about giving..remember the scripture regarding the widow and the mite..Jesus saw her heart was right and she gave the least at the temple but is still pleased God.
