23 | what leadership role did Joshua play | Josh 8:1 | PJC | 74925
Joshua was a man who displayed obedience and loyalty to God. Joshua was specifically chosen to lead the Israelites into the Promise Land. He became uniquely qualified (along with Caleb) when they returned from spying out the land and gave encouraging reports to the people. The other 10 spies were negative and fearful, not believing that God's promises, to go before them and deliver their enemies into their hands, were yea and amen. In Joshua, chapter 1:6,7,9 and 18, God specifically commands and encourages Joshua to be strong and courageous as he goes in to possess the land. (God is actually talking to Joshua!) Joshua obeys all God's commands and instructions and conquers Jericho for the LORD. (Actually the LORD delivers Jericho into Israel's hands.) Only one time in the entire record of Joshua does he not seek out God. That was the first time Israel tried to conquer Ai. That is from Joshua chapter 7. Chapter 7 verse 6 demonstrates Joshua's repentence of not seeking God's direction in the attempt at Ai. This demostrated something that the Israelites had a hard time doing…repenting and telling God of their sorrow of sinning against Him.(Don't we do that still today?) As you read the entire book of Joshua, and you really should, look for the comparisons of Joshua to Jesus. Joshua as a warrior provided the home for Israel. Jesus goes to prepare a place for us in heaven. Joshua drove out Israel's enemies. Jesus comes into our life and drives out our strongholds, He changes us. Joshua obeyed God, drove out the enemies and Israel had rest. Jesus obeyed His Father, and goes to provide a rest for all who believe! Thank You Lord Jesus. |

24 | Why did God send an evil spirit to Saul? | 1 Sam 18:10 | PJC | 78447
Wouldn't you agree that we are either in God's family or not. If we aren't, then we are in the evil one's family. God never temps a man to sin but man sins when he is drawn away by his own passions. The context of this passage explains why God did what He did. It does not contradict other Scriptures. We always need to keep the Scriptures in their context. The sin of greed and envy seemed to appear as Saul heard of David's prospering. v15. Saul gave way to his sinful passions. Pray this helps. PJC |

25 | Does God really have a plan for my life | Prov 16:3 | PJC | 74543
God has a plan for everyone's life. What is God's will for your life? Dear one, keep your heart in tune to the Scriptures and keep in mind that as we read His Word we are to focus on Him, not ourselves. It is all about Him and the more we learn and seek His ways, the less we are focused on ourself. All things work together for the good for those who love Him. Whether you get turned down or accepted at anything in this life, go forward as His child. |

26 | Why quote scriptures? | Matt 7:23 | PJC | 75172
You probably won't recite these Scriptures to others but this may help you understand how powerful God's Word is. (It is good for you to tell others to read the Bible, especially to read John.) Romans 10:17 "So faith comes by hearing, (reading too) and hearing by the word of Christ." Galatians 3:2 "…did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?" You know many people who have read the Bible have come to belief because… -Hebrews 4:12 His Word is living, (because it is from a living God) -Hebrews 4:12 and active,(it is active because it performs its work in those who believe.1 Thess. 2:13) (Hebrews 4:12) and sharper than any two edged sword (because the sword is the Word of God and there is nothing stronger.) But you will also meet people who just point blank will not accept the Bible as inspired by God or true in any way, shape or form. They cannot be swayed but there are many who will take your great suggestion to read it for themselves. Here are some talking points that present validity to the Bible. Thought you might like to read them over. Authorship: 66 books written over 1400 years by about 40 men with NO contradiction of truth. One Predominant Theme: Man is justified by faith. The Bible is a progressive revelation of how God brings this about. It also moves us toward God and away from the abyss of believing nothing. (Quote from Wood Kroll, Back to the Bible) It's Preservation: 1 Peter 1:15 Matt. 24:35 His Word will abide forever! (Think about that, that is forever, even after this world is gone!) It has withstood burnings, bannings and persecutions. No other book has been printed in as many languages and dialects. THINK ABOUT THIS: What man produces, man can destroy. What God has produced, no man can put away, nor has he! Archeological Proof: Dead Sea Scrolls, ancient Hebrew manuscripts. Fullfilled Prophecy: Countless prophecies of the coming of Jesus have come true. Transformed Lives and Minds: I am living proof! The Bible changes all men, no matter what race, station in life, education or culture. Acts 10:34 Bible Testifies to Itself: 2 Tim. 3:16 "All Scripture is inspired by God…" 2 Pet. 1:20, 21 "But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation…" I will leave you with this— Isaiah 55:11 "So shall My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me empty." |

27 | House vs Business | Luke 2:49 | PJC | 74919
In essence your focus on house vs. business is not where the context leads in this passage. When reading the entire chapter for context, Jesus is establishing the Fatherhood of God as His Father. The Greek definition for Father's business, or Father's house is Strong's 3962, defined through Zodhiates NT Greek Dictionary: "A father of men but more specifically of God, by Whom is begotten." (Remember, Jesus is establishing God as His Father) Zodhiates goes on to say "specifically, God is called the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ in respect to that particular relation in which Christ is the Son of God. Where the Father and the Son are expressly distinguished." In this case Jesus calls God His Father, "pater mou." In context, the NASB notes that this literally means the things of My Father or My Fathers affairs. So again, the emphasis is on the Fatherhood of God to His Son Jesus. You can learn what the Greek word meanings are by getting a Strong's concordance (same version of your Bible) and Spiros Zodhiates' NT Greek Dictionary which elaborates on the word definitions. A concordance has every word in the Bible listed alphabetically and assigns that word a 4-digit number. The dictionary gives the definitions acording to the 4-digit number. (I teach word studies in Greek and Hebrew to Bible study students.) May God continue to bless your time in His Word. |

29 | Go to Hell after receiving Holy Spirit? | Rom 10:9 | PJC | 74562
No, baptism in merely an outward sign of an inward Change. Most people have decided in their heart some time prior to baptism to accept Christ. Even those who have not been baptised and believe will go to be with the Lord. He knows the heart. Amen |

30 | what was his diet, clothes, hair, | 1 Cor 11:15 | PJC | 78187
I would suggest that you look up every reference to Paul in your Bible, make a list of what you learn about him. (You can easily do that with and exhuastive concordance and look up Paul.) You can also look up historical aspects of the times during the life of Paul. It will tell you what people at and what they dressed in. Pray this helps. PJC |

31 | Why is "he" not capitalized? | 2 Thess 2:7 | PJC | 74546
You are most likely referring to the NASB version which I really enjoy because they do capitalize MOST of the diety pronouns. I have a list of pronouns for diety that the Lockman Foundation (pub. of NASB) did not capitalize. I have written them and their answer is they "decide on capitalization via a committee." If the committee decides NOT to capitalize something it doesn't get capitalized. Here are a few other verses that require capitalization: Gen. 3:15 "Him on the heel." (Jesus) John 1:33 "One" (Jesus) 1 John 5:6 "One" (Jesus) Heb. 7:13 "One" (Jesus) 3 Tim. 1:9 "Who" (God) Joshua 5:14 "He" (Jesus) Joshua 11:15 "He" (God) As I continue in my time in God's Word I find more and more instances of this. But you know what? It keeps me always alert and looking. Remember, the editors and publishers are mere mortals who do make mistakes. BUT God's Word is divinely inspired and divinely appointed for you and me…keep that in your heart! |

33 | Is Saddam the anti-christ? | Revelation | PJC | 76250
I have been taking Revelation from a wonderful teacher who has devoted her life to studying prophecy. The one thing that struck me immediately with your questions is something she said: "It is not wise to compare current events in light of Scripture. Scripture will reveal itself despite current events." On your question about figurative prophecy… I will share something interesting I gathered from Revelation. It was that all the symbols and signs in Revelation are from other parts of the Bible. When you study the Sriptures you see so much of those symbols and signs in Revelation. That is when one gets clarification on interpretation. If you want to study the anti-christ get a concordance and look up every instance of his mention (beast) and make a list of what God has to say about him. Then you will get a better biblical understanding. Remember, Satan likes to imitate God in all his ways. Just as Jesus died and rose for us, Satan imitates Him by taking a mortal wound to the head and coming back to life. He will indeed fool many who don't keep their eyes on Jesus. That is why it is important to know Jesus. (Those who look for counterfeit money study the real thing for many years so they can spot the false immediately.) I myself would prefer to study the real Christ and know all I can about him so that by knowing the real I can see the false immediately. May God belss you study of His Word. PJC |
