21 | Visualizatin vs the bible | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 218441
Greetings Macsdawtr, You ask, "Does using visualization techniques conflict with the teachings of the bible?" I would say that there is no conflict as long as you are basing your techniques on scripture alone. As long as the teaching is based on nothing (no conjecture, false teaching, tradition) but scripture alone, then I would see no conflict in such a presentation. Blessings to you, Makarios |

22 | How old is the bible? | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 218918
Greetings Miss Silver, You ask, "How old is the Bible?" The Book of Genesis is most generally acclaimed to be the first book of the Bible that God had given inspiration to be transcribed, and the human authorship for this book is most generally accredited to Moses, at a generally agreed upon date of around 1450-1410 B.C. Blessings to you, Makarios |

25 | Aren't there differences? | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 220137
Greetings MAC702, There are a number of specific "hot topic" verses when discussing women in ministry, including 1 Cor. 14:34 (keep silent), 1 Peter 3:7 (weaker), and, in my opinion, 1 Cor. 12:11 (Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts to each one individually as He wills). As for 1 Cor. 14:34, if you believe that this verse exposits a biblical prohibition against women in ministry, then the most stolid line of thinking for this interpretation is rooted in the biblical definition of family, marriage and the order of creation after Adam and Eve. On the other hand, if you believe that this verse would best be interpreted in a 1st century cultural sense that is not applicable universally and for all time, then your line of thinking almost certainly would stem from Galatians 3:28 and possibly 1 Cor. 12:11. As for 1 Peter 3:7, the "weaker" element spoken of in relation to women would almost certainly be speaking of 'weaker physically' since such verses as Gal. 3:28 indicate that women are definitely equal in a spiritual capacity to men. So, that leaves us with 1 Cor. 12:11 and how the Holy Spirit apportions spiritual gifts to each and every believer. If preaching/teaching is a spiritual gift (Ephesians 4:11), then does the Holy Spirit check gender before He "apportions to each one individually as he wills"? I would not presume that the Holy Spirit would necessarily limit the gift of preaching/teaching to men alone. Blessings to you, Makarios |

28 | what if you get excommunicated? | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 220346
Greetings Vnct Blzn, Perhaps the best clue for an answer to your question is the word "knowingly." If the other church knows about and has recognized the reasons for your excommunication but still does not hold it against you (and can do so Biblically), then I would assume that you would be a full member of the new congregation. But even if they accept you, there is still that matter with the other church that would seem to still be unresolved/unforgiven. Blessings to you, Makarios |

Greetings Quizzy, You ask, "Did Jesus ever argue/dispute with anyone? Did any man righteously in the bible argue/dispute with anyone?" This sounds like a Homework question. This forum is not intended nor designed for such a purpose as helping people with such questions - you are much better served by reading the Gospels and finding the answers you need on your own. Greetings annblueyes47! Welcome to StudyBibleForum.com! As far as interaction and person to person communication on this website, we have a link under "Information" on the lower left hand column called 'About the Forum' that I highly suggest that you read before contributing regularly to this website for 2 reasons: 1) To peruse the "Terms of Use" - the link of which you can find on the 'About the Forum' page 2) So you will know what to expect as far as how you should engage this Forum being a new user. There is not a person here who can tell you not to engage in conversation with another member - it is moreso the content of what you write (must be Bible based) rather than the act of engaging in conversation that is mostly critiqued at this website. I hope that this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Makarios |

34 | what calendar determined Jesus birth? | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 223526
Greetings smm1033, According to Wikipedia: "For many centuries, Christian writers accepted that Christmas was the actual date on which Jesus was born.[16] In the early eighteenth century, scholars began proposing alternative explanations. Isaac Newton argued that the date of Christmas was selected to correspond with the winter solstice,[10] which the Romans called bruma and celebrated on December 25.[17] In 1743, German Protestant Paul Ernst Jablonski argued Christmas was placed on December 25 to correspond with the Roman solar holiday Dies Natalis Solis Invicti and was therefore a "paganization" that debased the true church.[11] According to Judeo-Christian tradition, creation as described in the Genesis creation narrative occurred on the date of the spring equinox, i.e. March 25 on the Roman calendar. This date is now celebrated as Annunciation and as the anniversary of Incarnation.[18] In 1889, Louis Duchesne suggested that the date of Christmas was calculated as nine months after Annunciation, the traditional date of the conception of Jesus.[19] The December 25 date may have been selected by the church in Rome in the early fourth century. At this time, a church calendar was created and other holidays were also placed on solar dates: "It is cosmic symbolism...which inspired the Church leadership in Rome to elect the winter solstice, December 25, as the birthday of Christ, and the summer solstice as that of John the Baptist, supplemented by the equinoxes as their respective dates of conception. While they were aware that pagans called this day the 'birthday' of Sol Invictus, this did not concern them and it did not play any role in their choice of date for Christmas," according to modern scholar S.E. Hijmans.[20]" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas) Blessings to you, Makarios |

35 | difference, angles,of the Lord,guardian | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 223692
Greetings Smith 1 Polly, Angels do God's work and obey His Word (Psalm 103:20) and there are literally thousands and thousands of them (Psalm 68:17)! Verses that lend support to the possibility of guardian angels are Matthew 18:10 and Acts 12:15. While it is certainly possible that each believer has a specific guardian angel assigned to them, Scripture also seems to indicate that many multitudes of angels are always ready to help Christians in need (2 Kings 6:17; Luke 16:22; Matthew 26:53; Psalm 91:9-11). As for the Angel of the Lord, it is thought that this is actually a preincarnate appearance of Christ in the Old Testament, since the Angel of the Lord is identified as being Yahweh (or God - Exodus 3:1-2; Zechariah 1:12) and demanded worship (Exodus 3:5; Joshua 5:15). It is definitely important to distinguish between an angel of the Lord in the New Testament (a created angel) and the Angel of the Lord in the Old Testament (preincarnate Christ). In either case, Christ is and has always been the Divine Intermediary between God the Father and man. Blessings to you, Makarios |

36 | is it a sin to marry a divorced woman | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 223694
Greetings bjb61, You ask, "Is it a sin to marry a divorced woman?" Divorce was never part of God's original plan, and marriage was intended to be dissolved only when one of the marriage partners died (Rom. 7:1-3; 1 Cor. 7:8-9) and younger widows are advised to remarry (1 Tim. 5:14). Divorce is allowed only due to unfaithfulness (Matthew 19:9) and desertion (1 Cor. 7:15-16), and God's desire is for reconciliation (Eph. 4:32; Col. 3:13). But if all of this is in the past, then God forgives divorce (Col. 2:13) even though the consequences of past divorce remain. Blessings to you, Makarios |

37 | HELP! Having questions and no answers | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 223741
Greetings Rclouviere, You asked: "1) God has said he will meet all of our needs (even cares for the sparrow, and he obviously thinks more highly of us); however, I'm sure there have been some Christians who have starved to death even after asking for help from God???" Scripture says that God hears our prayers (1 Peter 3:12), but God also allowed Stephen to be stoned (Acts 7) and His people are martyred in His name (Revelation 6:9). From our standpoint, we could never know that God would use the martyrdom of Stephen to bring about a young man named Saul (Acts 7:58), who would later be known as Paul, spurring him on to reach everyone for Christ! We simply do not know all of God's purposes and why some prayers are answered and others seem not to be; we are simply to stand firm in our faith that God stands on His promises and will never waver in our defense, even if our stand leads to death (Psalm 48:14). "2) Also, while I'm aware God is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow, but, in looking at the old testament', and comparing it with the new testament, He seems very different (killing of entire races of people, even children, death penalty for adultery, etc., but in the new testament, with Jesus, He seems so compassionate and loving and forgiving." Both the Old and New Testaments point to one and the same God, who is a God of both love and judgment. God did judge people in the Old Testament when the circumstances called for it (Exodus 7-11). But He also displayed His love and grace - see Genesis 3:15 and the promise of a coming Redeemer and God's provision for Noah and his family (Genesis 6:9-22). Also, God in His grace sent prophets to carry His revelation and established covenants (Genesis 12:1-3; 2 Sam. 7:12-16). In the New Testament, the love of God was continually manifested to the people through Jesus Christ. But also keep in mind that some of the most scathing denouncements from God came from Jesus (see Matthew 23:27-28,33). So, God is a God of love and judgment in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. Blessings to you, Makarios |

38 | The error addressed in 2 Peter | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 224804
Greetings again Pastor Beja, I apologize: it is clear that I have been away from this Forum far too long.. Christ was sent to redeem those under the Law (Galatians 4:4) as He lived in perfect obedience to the Law (Matt. 17:5; John 8:46; 1 Peter 2:21-23), and was a minister of the Law to the Jews (Luke 10:25-37) while confirming the promises made under the Mosaic covenant (Romans 15:8). Jesus fulfilled the types of the law by his holy life and sacrificial death (Heb. 9:11-28). He bore the curse of the Law (Gal. 3:13-14) and brought out all who believe from a place of servanthood under the Law to be children of God (Gal. 4:1-7). Jesus mediated by His blood the New Covenant (Heb. 8:8) of assurance and grace in which all believers stand (see Romans 5:2), so establishing the "law of Christ" (Gal. 6:2) stressing that righteous living is made possible by the indwelling Holy Spirit, not by observing the Law. The End of the Mosaic Law - see Romans 10:4; Colossians 2:14 and 2 Corinthians 3:7-11 Grounds for a Christian's cleansing from sin: 1 John 1:7-9 Since we are no longer under the Law (Heb. 10:1 and following), does that give a license to sin? Certainly not! Read Psalm 119:97-104; Matthew 5:17-20; Romans 7:4-8,12, 8:1-3; Galatians 3:10-14 Dear Inquisitor: based on your posts, all of the above verses are "required reading"!! The following is too good to miss here: Romans 8:1-3 "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit." Inquisitor and all: These verses should settle the issue about the Law/antinomianism/etc, etc. and should be enough for now. Please let us know if there are any questions after reading and fully applying these verses. Blessings to you, Makarios |

39 | How often is the NASB Updated, and why? | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 225178
Greetings Justme, According to the Preface of the NASB (found at http://ononeaccordwcharity.org/Preface_for_NASB.html), the last updates to the NASB were in 1995 and 1977. So, perhaps in 2015 we might see another NASB update (about every 20 years)? The NASB is my favorite Bible translation for reading and serious study. It has been indispensable in my spiritual life and growth for more than a decade. I'm not entirely convinced that there really needs to be an update to the NASB. In fact, I'm not sure that an update from the 1977 version was really necessary either, but I have grown to like the '95 version pretty well. Blessings to you, Makarios |

40 | The "New" New International Versoin ? | Bible general Archive 4 | Makarios | 225184
Greetings Justme! I heard on Christian radio (97.9 WGNR FM - Moody Radio) that Zondervan was working on this newest of the latest series of updates to the New International Version, and I couldn't help but cringe, thinking not so fondly of the divisiveness that came with the introduction of the NIVI (1997) and TNIV (2005) because of the gender-neutral language (see http://www.bible-researcher.com/tniv.html) and the resulting series of translations being released (ESV, HCSB) as many evangelicals left behind the NIV and sought a translation that was a bit less gender inclusive. Al Maxey has posted an interesting critique of the 1984 NIV at http://www.zianet.com/maxey/Ver2.htm, and it would be a good exercise to examine some of the verses that he mentions between the 3 NIVs to see the difference in the text. From what I have read ( http://www.NIVBible2011.com) of this new translation, it is getting to be more and more like a paraphrase with each new update, making readability its main focus and upholding gender neutrality, which was introduced in the NIVI and TNIV. I suppose if they stop production altogether of the 1984 NIV and produce only this new translation, then we'll always have the NASB, the ESV, the NKJV and that venerable, nearly 400 year old KJV to rely upon. :) Blessings to you, Makarios |
