24 | Luke 4:18:19 and Isaiah 61:1-2a | Luke 4:18 | retxar | 19068
In Luke 4:18-19 Luke records Jesus reading Isaiah 61:1-2a in the temple. The words Luke recorded here are not word for word the same as Isaiah reads in our English translations, tho the meaning is the same. Is this because the translation that Jesus read from was different than our English translations? Or is it different for another reason? Thanks, retxar |

25 | Who wrote Hebrews? | Luke 15:24 | retxar | 61008
Some good thoughts here Permican! I was curios tho. You seem very confident that these words are written by Paul here in Hebrews. Most Bible scholars these days think that Hebrews was not written by Paul. I myself lean toward Paul, for as good a reason as any, because my Bible says “The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews”! I am not overly concerned, because I believe it is Gods WORD whoever wrote it, but would like to hear any thoughts on why you think Paul is the author? Thanks, retxar |

27 | Jesus Himself said, I AM | John 8:58 | retxar | 5067
In John 8:58 Jesus refers to Himself as the great I AM. This is certainly a powerful statement by Jesus Himself of His deity, not that He just existed before Abraham. No one that calls Jesus Christ Lord would want this verse “watered down” to imply anything else. But what about other verses in the NASB, KJV, and NKJV where this statement is just as powerful, but is lost because of the addition of un-inspired words by the translators. Italicized words are supposed to add clarity, but do they always?. Please DO NOT answer before trying this. Read John 8:24, 8:28, 13:19, 18:5-8. Now read Exodus 3:13-14. Now go back and read the verses in John again, but this time don’t read the italicized words. Take special note of John 8:24. "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am (He), you will die in your sins." Does the addition of the (He) here make since now? Not to me. If the (He) is implied by Jesus here, who is Jesus saying (He) is, other than I AM? I have asked this question before, without much response. I will ask again. Do the italicized words clarify who Jesus is, or do they it take away from the very words Jesus spoke Himself, about who He is? Jesus is Lord!!!!!!!!! |

28 | Jesus, all God/all Man | John 9:24 | retxar | 55104
Joe, I agree with all you are saying here, but I do have one question. I believe and know that Jesus is all God and all man as you have said. But did He BECOME all man/all God or has He always been all man/all God? If He was not all man/all God from eternity, did He merely take on the appearance of a man with His OT appearances, rather than being “God in the flesh” as His NT appearance? Also, I have always had a problem of fully grasping the term “begotten”. Does this mean that Jesus became all man/all God rather than being all man/all God or does it simply mean He was born as an act of God the Holy Spirit? Oops! I said one question, I guess I meant three! Thanks retxar |

30 | Is this the same Sosthenes? | Acts 18:17 | retxar | 23801
Sosthenes became the ruler of the synagogue in Corinth after the former leader, Crispus, believed upon the Lord (Acts 18:8). Sosthenes seemed to be the leader of the Jews who rose up against Paul. Gallio refused to listen to the Jewish charges against Paul because God had promised Paul protection (Acts 18:9-10). The angry Gentiles believers gave Sosthenes a beating as Gallio looked the other way. Is this the same Sosthenes that Paul later calls "his brother" in 1Cor 1:1?. thanks, retxar |

33 | Did Paul preach to Caesar Nero? | Acts 27:24 | retxar | 23981
Thanks Nolan. I agree. Historical tradition tells us that Paul was executed by Nero, who was a ruler from the House of Caesar clan. I believe Paul declared the gospel boldly and powerfully to him, just as God had promised, and as Paul had declared to Felix, Festus, and King Agrippa. Does anyone know if there are any early church history writings that might confirm Paul preaching the gospel to Nero? retxar |
