21 | What is the proper NT church model? | NT general Archive 1 | retxar | 45616
There are 3 basic forms of church government that we see in churches today; congregational governed typical in Baptist and Pentecostal churches, church hierarchy (Bishop/Pastor) governed typical in Episcopalian and Calvary Chapel churches, and elder governed typical in Presbyterian and Reformed churches. I know of no clear cut New Testament command for God’s exact church government preference, but which form of church government is best supported by New Testament witness and example? Please back up your answers scripturally. Thanks! retxar |

22 | Audio Bible | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 29501
For info only, not an advertisement! Has anyone checked out the audio bible in mp3 format from audiotreasure.com? You can download the KJV NT or the WEB NT and 17 books of the OT for free. You can save a lot of download time by ordering the CDs for only about 6 or 7 bucks each. The files or MP3 format, which means they will only play on a computer or a special CD player that can read MP3s. What’s neat is that the whole bible will fit on 1 CD, unlike the many, many CDs in a normal audio bible. They won’t play on a regular CD player, but I play most of my CDs in my computer anyway, so that is no problem. I posting this because I thought it was a ministry that promotes knowledge of the Word and the forum might be interested in. I hope I am not breaking any rules. thanks, retxar |

23 | His star in the East | NT general Archive 1 | retxar | 27673
Hi Tim, I don’t remember when or where, but I heard a story once that the bright star the wise men may have saw was in a constellation called “The Virgin”. Supposedly the bright star did not appeared over Bethlehem, but appeared where her abdomen would have been. Being astronomers, they interpreted this as news that the Christ Child was born. This was supposedly verified thru astronomy. Have you, or anyone else ever heard of such a story, or did I dream it? Thanks, retxar |

26 | coals and antrax? | Rom 12:20 | retxar | 26123
Just a curiosity question. The greek word for "coals" here in Rom 12:20 is "anthrax". Does that have any connection with the anthrax we hear about these days. Thanks, retxar |

27 | Did Paul preach to Caesar Nero? | Acts 27:24 | retxar | 23981
Thanks Nolan. I agree. Historical tradition tells us that Paul was executed by Nero, who was a ruler from the House of Caesar clan. I believe Paul declared the gospel boldly and powerfully to him, just as God had promised, and as Paul had declared to Felix, Festus, and King Agrippa. Does anyone know if there are any early church history writings that might confirm Paul preaching the gospel to Nero? retxar |

29 | Is this the same Sosthenes? | Acts 18:17 | retxar | 23801
Sosthenes became the ruler of the synagogue in Corinth after the former leader, Crispus, believed upon the Lord (Acts 18:8). Sosthenes seemed to be the leader of the Jews who rose up against Paul. Gallio refused to listen to the Jewish charges against Paul because God had promised Paul protection (Acts 18:9-10). The angry Gentiles believers gave Sosthenes a beating as Gallio looked the other way. Is this the same Sosthenes that Paul later calls "his brother" in 1Cor 1:1?. thanks, retxar |

30 | Study Bible Doctrine | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 22613
Greetings Kalos! I have a Ryrie SB (77 NASB). I agree the Ryrie is an excellent study bible. I have a Scofield (KJV) and like very much also. I know both come from a reform prespective on scripture, all tho probally not as strong as the McAthur Study Bible (from what I have looked at anyway as I don't have a McSB). I have a Nelson Study Bible and I would say it was neutral on most reform/free-will scripture. I am not familiar with the Zondervan NASB Study Bible. My question is, how does it compare to the other Study Bibles I have mentioned here, as far as interpretation of reform/free-will scripture. Also, how does it address modern day spritural gifts when compared to the others. Thanks bro!, retxar |

31 | Tithes into the storehouse | Mal 3:10 | retxar | 21867
Mal 3:10 says to bring the whole tithe into the storehouse. Does "the storehouse" mean one's own fellowship? Would money given to ministries outside your local fellowship count as part of your tithe? Paul told us to give regularly and proportionately (1Co_16:1-2). If I have chosen to give 10 percent regularly and proportionately would money I give outside my fellowship be considered part of that 10 percent? Thanks, retxar |

33 | Luke 4:18:19 and Isaiah 61:1-2a | Luke 4:18 | retxar | 19068
In Luke 4:18-19 Luke records Jesus reading Isaiah 61:1-2a in the temple. The words Luke recorded here are not word for word the same as Isaiah reads in our English translations, tho the meaning is the same. Is this because the translation that Jesus read from was different than our English translations? Or is it different for another reason? Thanks, retxar |

36 | Resurrection of 2 witnesses and Rapture? | Revelation | retxar | 13897
Hi Tim! I too "lean" toward the mid-trib, pre-wrath view, tho pre-trib seems posible to me also. The strongest evidence for me for mid-trib being correct is because the rapture of the church and the resurrection of God's 2 witnesses (Rev 11:12) would occur at the same time (the way I see it). If the 2 witnesses that God raises up are believers that are on earth at the time the antichrist begins his stuff, pre-trib does not work, because the 2 witnesses would be raptured with the church. I also know soverign God could leave 2 believers behind to do His work if He chose. The question this raises in my mind tho, is how this works out with Jesus coming as a "thief in the night" (Mat24:42-44, Mar 13:32-37, 1Th 4-5, etc.) Does this confirm mid-trib or put more weight toward pre-trib? 37 | What do you think? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 12208
Hi Tim, Let me give you an issue 3, if I may. We had a situation in my fellowship where a young man started a home bible study on a Tuesday night. We have mens prayer on the same night. He had been a part of our men’s prayer group before he started the bible study. He started this bible study on his on without the pastors blessing. I feel, as the pastor did also, that this young man is an anointed teacher/preacher. The pastor didn’t say anything to this young man so maybe it was OK with him. I never brought it up, but I always felt it would have been better if he had done this under the pastor’s authority since there was the mens prayer conflict. What do you think? Thanks, retxar |

38 | Tithes and offerings designation | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 7516
Does the Bible address the issue of how our tithes and offerings are to be used once they are given? Do we have the right to designate how a particular offering should be used or do we release all rights to the spritual authorities in our church to designate as they see fit?
39 | Jesus Himself said, I AM | John 8:58 | retxar | 5067
In John 8:58 Jesus refers to Himself as the great I AM. This is certainly a powerful statement by Jesus Himself of His deity, not that He just existed before Abraham. No one that calls Jesus Christ Lord would want this verse “watered down” to imply anything else. But what about other verses in the NASB, KJV, and NKJV where this statement is just as powerful, but is lost because of the addition of un-inspired words by the translators. Italicized words are supposed to add clarity, but do they always?. Please DO NOT answer before trying this. Read John 8:24, 8:28, 13:19, 18:5-8. Now read Exodus 3:13-14. Now go back and read the verses in John again, but this time don’t read the italicized words. Take special note of John 8:24. "Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am (He), you will die in your sins." Does the addition of the (He) here make since now? Not to me. If the (He) is implied by Jesus here, who is Jesus saying (He) is, other than I AM? I have asked this question before, without much response. I will ask again. Do the italicized words clarify who Jesus is, or do they it take away from the very words Jesus spoke Himself, about who He is? Jesus is Lord!!!!!!!!! |

40 | Do the italicized words clarify? | Bible general Archive 1 | retxar | 4588
Hi Ray, OK. My thoughts on the capitalization issue you brought up?? I don’t know, never really thought about it, but I can certainly see how a word capitalized or not capitalized can make us look at scripture in a different light (example Gen. 18:3 we talked about). If breath of life/Life in these verses mean breath of God, then it would certainly be capitalized. If it means physical life, it would not be capitalized. Yea, I know you already knew that! Since I’m not answering your question and only bringing up more questions, here’s some more food for thought. This is along the same lines of capitalization. This is about the liberal use of italicized words in certain places in the NASB, KJV, and NKJV. Here is what I would like for you to do. Read John 8:24, 8:28, 13:19, 18:5-8. Now read Exodus 3:13-14. Now go back and read the verses in John again, but this time don’t read the italicized words. Now answer this question. Do the italicized words clarify who Jesus is, or do they it take away from what Jesus was actually saying? So, good luck in your pursuit of correcting the capitalization errors. I think I might start scratching out a fee italicized words myself! God Bless!! |
