21 | "Seven classes" of men? | Mark 9:1 | Makarios | 44051
Greetings again Mel! You stated, "who is better qualified to reveal what "seven classes" of men acknowledge on the Day the sun ceases to shine? These classes will be hiding in the mountains from the invading armies in the valley of Megiddo." I looked throughout Matthew and Zechariah, but I could not find any reference to the "seven classes" of men.. Would you mind giving me some Scriptural support? Thank you! Your Brother in Christ, Makarios |

25 | Judith, you are preaching a false Gospel | Gen 6:4 | Makarios | 43755
Greetings Judith, How do you deal with Romans 11:5-6? "In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God's gracious choice. But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace." [NASB] If you teach that one is saved by their deeds, then you are preaching a false Gospel, and a different Gospel than that which has clearly been shown to you by quoting the Bible. Please read 2 Cor. 11:4 and Galatians 1:7, which speak about preaching a different or false Gospel. - Makarios |

26 | When does the Baptism occur? | John 7:38 | Makarios | 43522
Greetings all! I have recently written in one of my posts that I believe that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs at the moment of salvation. If you disagree with this statement, then when exactly does the Baptism of the Holy Spirit occur, since water baptism can only be undergone when a believer has shown evidence of faith and the Baptism that has happened within? |

We all know from reading Luke 24:10 that Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women went to tell the disciples that they did not find Jesus at the tomb, and that He had risen! However, little is known about this woman named Joanna. Can anyone provide some in-depth information on Joanna? |

30 | Three days or three years? | Amos 4:4 | Makarios | 35056
The NIV renders this verse: "Go to Bethel and sin; go to Gilgal and sin yet more. Bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three years." The English Standard Version renders this very same verse this way: "Come to Bethel, and transgress; to Gilgal, and multiply transgression; bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days;" If you notice the last sentence in each rendering, the NIV says "..three years" and the ESV "..three days".. Which is it? Three days or three years? |

31 | The Ministry of the "Walking Wounded" | 1 Tim 4:6 | Makarios | 35052
Are there many pastors (or ex-pastors) on this Forum who have been "wounded" by their congregation or District Superintendent or overseeing board of directors for "political reasons" and have been forced out from fulfilling their calling as pastors? If so, how is the church to minister to a pastor and his family who is among the 'walking wounded'? Are there places for pastors and their families (who have been burnt before in the past) to fulfill their calling? |

32 | "...and fasting"? | Mark 9:29 | Makarios | 35050
The KJV and NKJV add "...and fasting." in this verse. While it is true that the KJV and NKJV are based upon the Byzantine tradition of texts, or the Textus Receptus, is it important to keep the words "..and fasting" in this verse? How does one answer a person who believes that the exclusion of "..and fasting" is a deliberate omission? |

36 | Church Covenant itself a contradiction? | Eph 1:23 | Makarios | 32293
Greetings Brother Robert! I agree with your analysis of what church membership is, and I appreciate your reasoning regarding the necessity of agreeing to a Church Covenant. Perhaps its the word 'Covenant' that is giving me "trouble", since we are under one covenant alone, and that is the covenant that has been established by Jesus Christ (Hebrews 9:15; Hebrews 12:24). But I realize that covenants between God and His people are entirely different and should not be considered on the same level of importance as the covenants that men make amongst themselves. Therefore, there is no need to "shed any blood" (Hebrews 9:18) to validify a "covenant" between men, even though we should seek to honor those covenants if they are not essentially in conflict with our covenant with God. However, in the "Church Covenant", there is an ordinance to 'not swear oaths' (or complete allegiance) to anything but Jesus Christ! Therefore, would swearing allegiance to a "Church Covenant" be a direct violation of the Covenant itself, and of Matthew 5:34- the verse of which this particular ordinance of the "Church Covenant" was, in fact, derived from? Blessings to you, Makarios |

37 | Church "Covenant" unbiblical? | Eph 1:23 | Makarios | 32276
Greetings all! If we automatically become members of the body of Christ at salvation (Acts 2:47; 20:28; Ephesians 1:23; 5:25), then what is "church membership?" If we are already members of the church (the body of Christ), as the Bible sees it (when we become saved), then why do some churches have a "Church Covenant"? For instance, I attend a Conservative Mennonite/Anabaptist church, where I had to agree to a "Church Covenant" in order to be a member of that church. I already fulfilled and continue to fulfill all of the obligations of the Covenant (obligations including 'short hair' for men, the wearing of the veil for women) just by being who I am. So there is no problem whatsoever for me in fulfilling any of the points in the "Covenant." However, my question is: is it entirely Biblical for a church to make the acceptance of a "Church Covenant" a requirement for membership in their congregation in the first place? Thank you in advance for your answers! |

Greetings everyone! This is a "follow-up" question on the brand new English Standard Version.. After reviewing this translation by reading excerpts of its text and learning more about it, has your opinion of the ESV changed for greater or for worse? And what would you say has influenced your decision of accepting/rejecting the ESV? |

40 | Song of Solomon a work of fiction? | Leviticus | Makarios | 29278
Greetings gpaulturner, How do you come to the conclusion that the Song of Solomon is a work of fiction just because it is not a narrative (like Genesis)? Does this also mean that the Psalms and Isaiah, Daniel, and Revelation are also works of fiction? How do you come to your conclusion that the Song of Solomon is a work of fiction? - Nolan |
