21 | Is God beyond time as we know it? | Rev 21:6 | Diomede | 158298

22 | Could a good God create death? | Gen 1:31 | Diomede | 158268

23 | Do we all get to heaven together? | 2 Cor 5:8 | Diomede | 158218
Do christians all get to heaven at the same time? I like the idea of our deceased loved ones looking down on us, but is this biblical? If we do all get to heaven at the same time how is that possible? I'm interested to hear peoples thoughts, and also to get some verses to clarify the matter. Thanks |

28 | Can God change his mind? | Ex 32:10 | Diomede | 156377

29 | Is Matt 7 v 20 always true? | Matt 7:20 | Diomede | 155029
I am trying to get to the bottom of womens role in the church, particularly regarding women preaching. Yesterday for a brief moment I thought I had it figured out. If the above verse is true then God would bless the work of women whom he had called to preach and their work would be fruitful. However I have since recalled several cases of preachers who would seem to have had a fruitful ministry, but it has been found out later they had been involved in all kinds of things they should't have been. So did God overule and still make their ministry fruitful so his will could be done despite the people he had to work with? Perhaps I don't understand what is meant by fruitful. What do you think this verse means? Thanks |

30 | How should we take the Bible? | Bible general Archive 2 | Diomede | 154918
Thanks Tim for your reply. The two main issues that have arisen for me are women and their role in church and wives being under the authority of their husbands. I have done a quick search on these so am aware of some of the different perspectives. But what I keep coming back to is that if the bible is Gods actual words to us today, then should it be enough that we read it and take it like it says? I've red somewhere that if the bible makes sense like it is then take it as it is, if it is unclear, then interprit it in light of the bits that are clear. Some say but things are different culturally, I'm not sure about this argument. Surely if God is God then he would have made it clear if some bits of the bible were for then and some are for now. Which then takes me back to the original problem, if we are to decide (based on what we know of culture back then) which parts apply and which don't, how can we be sure we get it right? Thanks for your help with this! |

31 | Should we take the bible literally? | Bible general Archive 2 | Diomede | 154869
What does it mean that the bible is inspired by God? Is it his actual words to us today, be taken literally? I am being told that there are some new testament issues that while the bible says one thing, that isn't what it actually means to us today. Which then poses the problem of which bits do we take literally and which bits don't we? So how should we take it? Thanks!
32 | What is Phil 2 v 17 about? | Phil 2:17 | Diomede | 154748
Can someone explain this verse to me please? Is he taliking about being martyred? What is a drink offering? Thanks
33 | who added the verse numbers? | 1 Tim 1:14 | Diomede | 154192
Interesting point about the verses, chapters etc being added later. Do you (or does some one else out there) know when this happened and how they decided where it should be broken up?
34 | How was Paul faithful? | 1 Tim 1:12 | Diomede | 154050
Can someone explain to me how it is that God considered Paul faithful. He didn't exactly have a good track record prior to his conversion, yet God considered him faithful enough to entrust to him a huge and important task. Is this because God didn't see the past, he saw the future potiential? Or does this verse refer to a time after his conversion when he'd proved himself faithful. I don't get it, however it is certainly encouraging that if God could use Paul with his past then he must be able to do the same for all of us!
35 | Thanks! What about verse 17? | 1 Tim 1:14 | Diomede | 154031
Thank you seacher 56 for your answer, that Hebrews verse puts faith in a way I've never thought about it before. Thanks too to those others who have answered my previous questions. I've only recently joined this forum, and I just think its so cool that I can put in something thats puzzling me before I go to bed in New Zealand, and by the time I wake up someone has always taken the time to share their thoughts and help me find the answers I'm looking for. A further question on my Timothy study: verse 17 seems to come out of nowhere. Why do you think he puts it there and how does it connect with the previous verses? |

36 | Does God give faith? | 1 Tim 1:14 | Diomede | 153985
How are faith and love found in Christ? Its easier to see how love is found in Christ as God is love, but I always thought of faith as the part I have to play. That is, even though I don't fully understand I still believe and so that is my faith, a deliberate decision on my part. So is this saying that God will give me faith, or that God should be the centre of my faith? Different translations put it slightly differently and they are not making it clearer to me. Also, does God give more grace to those who have sinned more, or is sin, sin no matter how big or small, so his grace is the same, abundantly poured out for us all? |
||||||
37 | Does God show mercy if we sin purposely? | 1 Tim 1:13 | Diomede | 153921
This verse seems to say that Paul was shown mercy because he didn't realise what he was doing. So then if he had of sinned knowingly, would he not have been shown mercy?
38 | Can't find this verse! | Heb 10:16 | Diomede | 152259
I have been told that their is a verse in the bible that says some thing along the lines of - Every man in his heart knows there is a God. However I can't find it any where. Does anyone know which verse this might be?
39 | Who are the spirits in 1 Peter 3 v 19? | 1 Pet 3:19 | Diomede | 151911
Who are these spirits Jesus preached to? Does this refer to Jesus going down to hell between his death and resurrection? If so then why would he only preach to those who were round at the time of Noah, and what would be the point of preaching to them , since they couldn't choose to follow him anyway. Could this refer to Christ appearing on earth in Noahs time to try win back people? Or maybe just his spirit being on earth trying to get through to peoples hearts before the flood? Is there anything else in the bible that would support Christ or his Spirit being on earth before the flood? I am interested to hear peoples ideas, as I can't make sense of this. Thanks |
