203 | Do all share their opinions with us? | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 169309
Question: Does every forum member at one time or another express his opinion? Answer: On StudyBibleForum some withheld their opinion from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have given us their opinion; but they withheld their opinion, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. :-) |

To read an exemplary review (NASB) go to: To read a most exemplary review of a most excellent Bible (translation and edition), go to Amazon.com. At the top of the page next to Search Books enter the ISBN: "0910618488" (without the quotation marks). When the next page appears on your screen, read the review of the NASB Update Side-Column Reference Bible written by reviewer Henry G. Hallmark (Fort Smith, AR). I highly recommend both this Bible and this review. The edition and translation* is what a Bible should be. The review is what a review should be. *(I-M-Never-To-Be-H-O) :-) Grace to you, Kalos |

206 | WHEN WIL THE ANT-CHRIST COME TO EARTH | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 170157
Question: "DOES THE ANTI-CHRIST COME BEFORE OR AFTER THE GREAT TRIBULATION"? Answer: The Abomination of Desolation Matthew 24:15-16, 21 (ESV) 15 “So when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by the prophet Daniel, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. ...21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be. In Matthew 24 notice the sequence of events. First the abomination of desolation will be seen standing in the holy place, "then there will be GREAT TRIBULATION." How great will that tribulation be? It will be "such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be." The Man of Lawlessness 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 (ESV) 2:1 Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we ask you, brothers, 2 not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. What is the sequence of events in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2? "That day" is the day when "the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him" will take place. It is also called "the day of the Lord". What has to happen before "that day" comes? "For that day will not come, unless (1) the rebellion comes first, and (2) the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, (the Antichrist). So, according to these clear verses of Scripture, the Antichrist MUST come BEFORE the day of the Lord -- the great tribulation. Grace to you, Kalos |

Jeff: I am confused. You write: "I checked out the page and didn't find any reference to Keith More." Yet when I went to he webpage pointed to by Mark, www.flcbranson.org, I found the following, exactly as it is worded here: "Listen to a quarterly Partner Message by Brother Keith Moore. CLICK HERE for more information." So I don't understand what you mean when you say you didn't find any reference to Keith Moore. Grace to you, Kalos |

209 | Judas is called the son of perdition | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 170319
Son of perdition means "son of destruction". John 17:12 English Standard Version While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the SON OF DESTRUCTION, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 2Thessalonians 2:3 English Standard Version Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the SON OF DESTRUCTION [Greek the son of perdition (a Hebrew idiom)]. In the New King James Version the phrase "son of destruction" is translated "son of perdition". John 17:12 New King James Version While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 2Thessalonians 2:3 New King James Version Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, The Amplified Bible amplifies the meaning of the term "son of perdition". John 17:12 The Amplified Bible While I was with them, I kept and preserved them in Your Name [ in the knowledge and worship of You]. Those You have given Me I guarded and protected, and not one of them has perished or is lost except the son of perdition [Judas Iscariot--the one who is now doomed to destruction, destined to be lost], that the Scripture might be fulfilled. AMPLIFIED 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no one deceive or beguile you in any way, for that day will not come except the apostasy comes first [unless the predicted great falling away of those who have professed to be Christians has come], and the man of lawlessness (sin) is revealed, who is the son of doom (of perdition), [Dan. 7:25; 8:25; I Tim. 4:1.] |

210 | Judas is called the son of perdition | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 170329
BradK: Thanks for posting the comment by Pink about Judas. I find it very interesting. From ID# 27777, originally posted December 21, 2001: 'In this verse Judas is called the son of perdition. "While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled." John 17:12. 'In this verse the antichrist is called the son of perdition. "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;" 2 Thess 2:3.' By the way, last night on the History Channel, there was a 2-hour special entitled "The Antichrist". Very informative! Did you see it? Grace to you, Kalos |

211 | Judas is called the son of perdition | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 170330
I tend to agree with Pink. I'm not dogmatic about it, but I tend to agree that it is not unlikely that Judas is the antichrist. Where does the Bible actually SAY the antichrist is the devil incarnate? Is it not possible that Judas could be the antichrist - WITHOUT being the devil incarnate? Moreover, I think it more likely that Judas will be the antichrist rather than Prince Charles, Henry Kissinger, or Marilyn Manson, to cite a few of the more ridiculous speculations about the identity of the antichrist. I don't know who the antichrist is and I don't care to know. (If one wants to play Pin the Tail on the Antichrist, Hal Lindsey is one's man.) Yet I think the idea that it will be Judas is worthy of consideration. Grace to you, Kalos |

Psalm139:13: 'Check with your local Christian bookstore’s “Bible person” ask his opinion as his knowledge will be more diverse and better able to assist you...' In a perfect world this would be true everywhere. In my experience in the real world the reverse is usually true. :-) In the real world I consider myself blessed if the bookstore clerk can find a particular Bible and tell me how much it costs. In this instance, you have given good advice regarding a specific topic of which I am in total ignorance -- using USB Ports. May I add that another very good source of product information is amazon.com? Anyone who knows the name of a particular product can go to amazon.com and read customer reviews of that product. I may not agree with every review, but it is often helpful to consider why a customer recommends or does not recommend a certain product. You will often find more detailed information about a product in the customers' reviews than you will in the manufacturer's description. Again, my thanks to you for providing information on a subject about which I know nothing -- using USB Ports. Grace to you, Kalos |

216 | differences | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 170694
You write: 'It seems if i were to ask a priest, a rabbi, a baptist, a mormon, etc to interpert the same bible passage, i would get 4 plus different versions. how can the word of god be so differently interperted?' A related question is, "What is the difference between Christianity and Judaism?" 'The all-important difference between Christianity and Judaism is the Person of Jesus Christ. Christianity teaches that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies of a coming Messiah / Savior (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6-7; Micah 5:2). Judaism often recognizes Jesus as a good teacher, and perhaps even a prophet of God. Judaism does not believe that Jesus was the Messiah. Taking it a step further, Christianity teaches that Jesus was God in the flesh (John 1:1,14; Hebrews 1:8). Christianity teaches that God became a human being in the Person of Jesus Christ so He could lay down His life to pay the price for our sins (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Judaism strongly denies that Jesus was God or that such a sacrifice was necessary. 'Jesus Christ is the all-important distinction between Christianity and Judaism. The Person and work of Jesus Christ is the one primary issue that Christianity and Judaism cannot agree upon.' Source: Question of the Week Week of April 9 - 15, 2006 http://studylight.org/col/que/ |

Non-denominational churces are no more infallible than denominational churches. Going to a non-denominational church is no guarantee that all or any of what you hear will be sound doctrine. This non-denominational church teaches one thing and that one may teach something different.

Psalm139:13: Once again you have provided us with much good, helpful information, which I greatly appreciate. I envy you living near so many good churches and Christian bookstores. I live approximately halfway between St. Louis, Missouri and Springfield, Illinois. These two cities have fine Bible bookstores, but there are none located between the two cities. The stores where I regularly browse and purchase Bibles and books are Christianbook.com and Amazon.com. Not to boast (2 Cor. 11:17), but when I said in my previous post that most of the time "the reverse is true" I meant it literally. I could and have answered the clerks' questions about various translations and editions of the Bible. Nineteen times out of 20 I am older than the store clerks and have read more translations, studied more years, and owned more Bible editions, versions, and reference books than the clerks. Also not to boast, but when I worked at Waldenbooks in the 1970s I was asked by the manager for my recommendations for the Bible section of this new store. The first modern (post-1611 A.D.) version I bought and used regularly was the New American Standard Bible. I went to the bookstore one day in search of a copy of the American Standard Version (1901) only to learn that it was difficult to obtain one. Based on my familiarity with and the reputation of the ASV, I bought the NASB. It was in the single-column format, with side column references, including the translators' notes, cross references, and literal and alternate renderings of words and phrases. I was not dissapointed by the NASB. I was 26 years old when I bought my first one. I have continued to use the NASB (in many editions) for the past 35 years. In my personal library I have approximately 27 different Bible versions, various study Bibles, and a basic collection of Bible reference books, e.g. Vine's, Strong's, Baker's Theological Dictionary, Nelson's Illustrated Bible Dictionary, and others. I plan to purchase an interlinear Greek-English NT this summer. As for my pastor, I respect his teaching and judgment. He is well trained in the doctrines of his denomination. But I have been reading the Bible since before he was born and studying it since he was 6 years old. Having said all that, I do appreciate your recommendations and those of others here on the forum. I have often found them to be helpful. Grace to you, Kalos |

Psalm 139: Thanks for sharing about the man at the Christian bookstore that helped you to be grounded in the Word. I grew up in the 1950s in a town with a population of 100,000 and, as far as I know, there was only one Christian bookstore in the whole town back then. I never even saw a study Bible (or knew they existed) and was never inside a Bible bookstore (or knew they existed) until I was 13 years old. It was in the front room of someone's house. It was to be another 12 years before I owned my first study Bible, the one that had made such an impression on me when I was 13 -- the Scofield Reference Bible. Now my most-often-used (daily since 1997) study Bible is the one by John MacArthur. Grace to you, Kalos |
