1921 | claiming things in your life | Is 53:5 | mark d seyler | 136141
Hi Brad, Yes I agree with you that the widespread healing work done by Jesus was for the purpose of declaring Who He is. "Believe for the works sake" was a common message from Him. I think the context in Matthew, as he wrote of Jesus healing Peter's mother, then then saying Isaiah's prophecy was fullfilled, that Matthew was if fact saying this was about physical healing, and when the disciples asked Jesus of the blind man, John 9:2 "And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?", Jesus asnswered in 9:3, "Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him." As for myself, while I appreciated physical healing in my body, it is in fact the healing of my "soul sickness" that means the most by far. As He has healed my heart and mind, I can more easily bear with my unhealed body. Thank you! Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi Hank and Brad, This is from my previous post on this topic: I know that healing comes at God's discretion, not by our will, only as it serves His purposes. We will all be healed, perhaps now, and perhaps in the resurrection. I know that Paul said somewhere that the Holy Spirit had prevented him from a certain trip. Elsewhere we read that he couldn't make that trip because he was sick. I especially like your quote from Dr. Rhodes 'Am I saying we shouldn't pray for healing? No, not at all. I'm just saying that after we've asked for healing, we need to submit to God's sovereign will. He may have a purpose in allowing our illness.' With that said. . . Does not Matthew 8:17 let us know that Isaiah 53 is not only refering to spiritual healing, but also physical healing? Shoud we completely spiritualize the Isaiah 53 passage? Mt 8:15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them. 16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: 17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses. What are your thoughts regarding how Matt 8:18 bears on this topic? Love in Christ, Mark |

1924 | KJV Only Radicals | Bible general Archive 2 | mark d seyler | 136016
Hi Janae, For what its worth. . . I have a great deal of respect for the King James, although I tend to use anything I can get my hands on, of the the more literal versions. I do not normally read paraphrases or the "dynamic equivalent". I personally do not use the NIV, although I began my Christian experience with the NIV for the first couple of years, before a major backslide. I especially enjoy the JP GREEN LITERAL VERSION, and I prefer the ones that use the Textus Receptus, followed by the Majority Text. I am learning to use an Analytical Greek NT, although that one happens to be from the Critical Text. There has been much "endless debate" on this forum of this topic, with many, shall I say, highly opinionated posts made. I would suggest that you search (using "King James Only" should work just fine) to sample the tone of the previous discussions before entering into this topic. I recommend, to any who are interested, go online and search "Bible Manuscript Comparison", "Bible Translation Comparison", "Textual Critisism", and "Bible Manuscript Families". This will show you a vast amount of information on this subject. Feel free to contact me if you wish to pursue this. Love in Christ, Mark |

1925 | Is healing guaranteed in the atonement? | Is 53:5 | mark d seyler | 135998
Hi Kalos, I want to say first that I agree with the majority of posters on this topic. Healing comes at God's discretion, not by our will, only as it serves His purposes. Elsewhere we read that he couldn't make that trip because he was sick. I especially like your quote from Dr. Rhodes 'Am I saying we shouldn't pray for healing? No, not at all. 1926 | What does honor mean to you? | 1 Pet 3:7 | mark d seyler | 135451
Hi xmikx, Welcome my friend! I know God will continue to bring you closer, and He will rejoice in your victory thru Him over these present trials. Honor refers to esteem and value. Think of your most prized possession, your all time favorite movie, your favorite food, your retirement nest egg, anything you value in your life. Give her more. More time, more attention, more thought, more care. I could tell you about how I do this with my wife, but each of us are different. What I can tell you is that our marraige was not what God wanted it to be until I gave myself completely. The benefit to her was that if there is a sacrifice to be made, I make it, not her. If there is something better to be had, she gets it, not me. She is served first. I fight her battles for her, when I can. I devote myself to her to do everything within my power to promote her spiritual growth. I don't have a "new and exciting way" to offer, but I can say that following the biblical model of marraige will position you and she to receive the blessing God has for you. Treating her as you want Jesus to treat you (forgiving, providing, interceding, loving) will lead to the new way you are looking for. Interceding - I cannot overstate our responsibility as husbands to pray for our wives. Peter also calls her the weaker vessel - be strong for her, in prayer, in the word and teaching, as the man of God who leads your home. God bless you and keep you! Love in Christ, Mark |

1928 | No other God besides Me? | 1 Cor 8:5 | mark d seyler | 134928
Hi Ray, I thought I was responding to an original question, and I did not realize this was part of an ongoing discussion. I've now re-read your question in context to the thread, and I think I understand what you are seeking. I know of no other scriptures that use those words in that order, however, the Bible seems clear in it's statements if taken in totality. There are many things that are called gods. There is only one real God. Jesus is the only God, and He came to earth as a Man. The cultist who argues, being willfully deceived, will argue against any Biblical proof endlessly. I admire, commend, and pray for you, Tim, Hank, and others who faithfully offer apologetics to those who would try to subvert the gospel and this forum. God bless you! Love in Christ, Mark |

1929 | No other God besides Me? | 1 Cor 8:5 | mark d seyler | 134893
Hi Ray, Here are a few you can peruse, all from Isaiah: 43:10, 44:6, 44:8, 45:5, 45:18, 45:21, 45:22, and 46:9. All of these record God's own claim that He is the only God, and there is none other. Love in Christ, Mark |

1930 | Scriptural Support for you position? | 1 Cor 8:5 | mark d seyler | 134892
Hi Pcdarcan, You say "Satan is a real living god", in spite of the many verses in the Bible that tell us there is no god but One. I don't know what scriptures I can add to what Tim has shared, they are very plain and speak for themselves. The Bible tells us many things are called gods, but only One is God. In 2 Cor. 4:4, we understand this to be referring to Satan, but the text does not say that. Our understanding may be correct, but we cannot use this passage for proof. To do that is to add to the Word. I just cannot agree that Satan is any kind of god at all. He is a created being, created by the One True Living God. Love in Christ, Mark |

1931 | mark of the beast, spiritual or literal? | Rev 13:16 | mark d seyler | 134808
Hi Justchris, Rev 13:16 And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead, 17 and he provides that no one will be able to buy or to sell, except the one who has the mark, either the name of the beast or the number of his name. I don't see anything in the text that indicates this is symbolic. The plain reading is detailed and specific. This is not a mark upon the heart, but is on the hand or forehead. As I read this passage, it refers to an actual, literal mark, without which you will not be able to buy or sell, and with which you will share in the wrath of God. I encourage any who will listen to read the Bible expecting to be plainly told plain truth, and to not allegorize, spiritualize, or treat as symbolic any passage unless it is presented as such. I think the mark of the beast will put on the outside what is already on the inside. Love in Christ, Mark |

1933 | Is it biblical? | Bible general Archive 2 | mark d seyler | 134124
Hi Misty, I for one have enjoyed your discussion, I think you have a sharp and creative mind, and are an asset to this forum. I am a recent comer to the forum myself, and I also questioned how much involvment I actually wanted, as I saw the endless debates, pride, and frankly, incorrect teaching being posted. My goal is to further both my knowledge and yours. I believe I have something to share with you, and you (personally) have something to share with the rest of us. Please share with us what God has given you. The more love that can be brought into this forum, the better a forum it will be. Mt 5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? The Lockman Foundation invites us all to participate. We need to adhere to the forum rules, and focus on the Bible. I agree with you that the Bible covers about any subject I can think of. We also need to be careful how we address others, even if we are right, so that we aquit ourselves as Christians - Christ-like. Mt 20:25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. 26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: 1Jo 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. I pray for unity among the brothren. Love in Christ, Mark |

1934 | The coming kingdom of antichrist? | Bible general Archive 2 | mark d seyler | 134011
Hi Reighnskye, Re 19:19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. 20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. My understanding is that individuals not governments are cast into the lake of fire, so this beast is a person. Re 13:13 And he (the false prophet)doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, 14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. This says that he had power to do miracles, therefore I think that the false prophet is able to do miracles, as he is empowered by the beast, that power coming from the devil. As demonstrated in Job, Satan has a certain amount of power, but only as God allows. Love in Christ, Mark |

1935 | Will miracles arise in the last days? | Revelation | mark d seyler | 133976
Hi Reighnskye, Re 13:13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, 14 And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. 15 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. There is absolutely nothing in the text to indicate this is anything less the the coming reality. The lying wonders will be real, the death of those who refuse to worship the beast will be real, and the eternal punishment of those who do will be real. There are places that say something is a symbol. "I saw a great sign in heaven..." in chapter 12, but this kind of language is not used here. And this is further substantiated by II Thess 2:8-9 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, Again, there is nothing here to indicate this is symbolic, or anything less than an accurate realistic description of what will happen. 1936 | The coming kingdom of antichrist? | Bible general Archive 2 | mark d seyler | 133972
2Th 2:8 and then shall be revealed the Lawless One, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the manifestation of his presence, 9 him, whose presence is according to the working of the Adversary, in all power, and signs, and lying wonders, 10 and in all deceitfulness of the unrighteousness in those perishing, because the love of the truth they did not receive for their being saved, 11 and because of this shall God send to them a working of delusion, for their believing the lie, 12 that they may be judged--all who did not believe the truth, but were well pleased in the unrighteousness. (YLT) It seems that the appeal of the antichrist will be about what he appears to be able to do, in signs and lying wonders. He will lie, and the perishing will believe him. Basically, the appeal will be to man's pride. Isa 66:4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not. I think that ultimately, people will follow the antichrist because of their rejection of God. Having been then appointed to destruction, God fixes their minds to believe the delusion God chooses for them. Another way to read this passage is that God chooses the delusion they already have, fixing it in their minds. When you reject heaven, all you have left is hell. Love in Christ, Mark |

1937 | is the seed non-human? | Dan 2:43 | mark d seyler | 133668
Hi Brad, I looked at that site (carm.org) re interpretive principles. I thought it had some good things to say about how to go about understanding the Bible. It used a passage for an example, but I don't think it went far enough. The passage used was 40Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. 42Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come" (NIV). It went on to explain how this did not mean what most people think, but that it means the ones removed are taken for judgement. I just wonder, though, if that is in harmony with the rest of scripture? As in the parables, and in Matt 25, the judgment between the sheep and the goats, the wicked are taken away, leaving the righteous, however, that is after they are gathered to the Valley of Jehoshaphat, and so the wicked are not plucked out leaving the righteous standing there doing dishes, they are all brought from the kitchen to be judged. Logically, will they actually be business as usual on the final day of the great tribulation? The other thing I wonder about is that this passage goes on the say that we don't know when He is coming, but when He comes to judge, it will be 1260 days from the abomination that causes desolation, and so those on the earth can know the very day. For these reasons I question this conclusion, and encourage all Bible students to be diligent to ensure that any conclusion reached regarding the meaning of the Scriptures is in complete harmony with the rest. That notwithstanding, I've bookmarked the site. It looks like it may have some interesting material. Thanks! Love in Christ, Mark |

Hi Rowdy, Remember, 1Th 5:1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that aught be written unto you. 2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 3 When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape. 4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief: 5 for ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness; Lu 21:31 Even so ye also, when ye see these things coming to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh. May He tarry for the sake of the unsaved! May He come quickly for His redeemed! (what's fun for me about this thread is that many of the things you and Misty have said are things I myself have thought about, and thought I was probibly the only one to ponder in relation to the topic of the nephilim, and so didn't post. Subract my points for lack of boldness! :( Anyway, another thing my wife and I have discussed is this phenomenom of men with an extra Y chromosome, who tend to be very tall, cunning, and amoral. Who knows!) Love in Christ, Mark |

1940 | is the seed non-human? | Dan 2:43 | mark d seyler | 133453
Hi Reighnskye, “Was this seed intermingling with the human race after the days of Noah?” Where the Bible says “there were nephilim in the earth in those days, and afterward”, I would have to say yes, that must be. The stories of anakim and similar people as the Israelites were coming to the promised land seem to be examples of this. “If it can be said that Noah and his family were pure-blood humans (which I believe to be the case)” This is what I had always assumed, but in fact, the Bible only says that Noah was perfect in his generations. Anything beyond this is our own speculation. We simply are not told concerning his wife, or his sons and their wives. And again, the scripture says “and afterward”. The existance of angel/human hybrids did not end with the flood. I believe that Noah’s wife was pure, and at least one of his son’s wives, because I believe Jesus came through a pure bloodline through Mary, however, I do not know scripture that says this. But this leads me to think that there may have continued to be intermingling, just not the worldwide contamination as before the flood. I agree completely that the intruduction of hybrids are a perversion of what God created, and those responsible with receive severe punishment. (See II Peter, and Jude) However, I believe that in the resurrection, all of the redeemed will have the heavenly body not affected by any perversions. My thinking is that the spirits produced from this crossbreeding are not subject to salvation, although again, I have no scripture to support that. My thinking is that these are the demons so often described in the Bible as desparately wanting to inhabit people’s bodies. As far as the war between God and those who are evil, God will win, no matter what weapons are formed against Him. The future dominance of redeemed humanity can only come through God’s work in us, and not by any mechination of man or angel. Unredeemed humanity will not, of course, have any dominance no matter what they do. Thank you for responding. You gave me some interesting things to think about. Love in Christ, Mark |
