165 | Mercy can only go so far... right? | Eph 5:5 | inmyheart | 67537
malspa, The Bible is also one of the most given away book in America! What is your view of that person who steals a Bible, or anything for that matter, and finally comes to their senses, and repents? "The problem is; Our God is a Merciful God, but can God be pushed too far? Do you think this is the problem?" God has spoken with finality through His Son. It's a completed and perfect message (gospel). Nothing has to be added and nothing has to be changed. It simply has to be understood and obeyed. We live under His Grace and Mercy, and that will soon come to an end. You seem to have a great passion for our Lord, and this issue (stealing) affects you. You may even had a breakthough in this area. However, pray for people who struggle in this area of their life. May God continue to bless you as He fulfills your purpose and leads you to your destiny. |

166 | What are the qualification for an elder | Titus 1:5 | inmyheart | 67534
Jr. Deacon Theo, here is some info that you requested. God Bless. The elder is a leader in the Christian church. It is a divinely appointed office that is held by men who are able to teach sound doctrine, refute error, be of good reputation, having believing children, who manage their households well, etc. The elder should not be in office if he is unable to fulfill the requirements of the office and he should not be chosen because he is a popular figure in the local church. Being an elder is a high calling and there are thousands of very godly men in many churches and who seek God and serve Him as best as they can. But, it is also true that many should not be elders who are in that position. Women, should not be elder's. Men with unbelieving children living with them should not be elders. And, elders should be able to teach correct doctrine and refute error. Sadly, many elders cannot do this. Qualifications for an elder: Must be above reproach (Titus 1:6; 1 Tim. 3:2) Husband of one wife (Titus 1:6; 1 Tim. 3:2). Household must be in order with children who believe (Titus 1:6 ;1 Tim. 3:4). Not a new convert (1 Tim. 3:6). Self controlled and temperate (Titus 1:7; 1 Tim. 3:2). Honorable, hospitable, seeking good (Titus 1:7). Have a good reputation (1 Tim. 3:7). Not addicted to wine (1 Tim. 3:3). Not greedy (1 Tim. 3:3). Able to exhort (teach) sound doctrine (Titus 1:9; 1 Tim. 3:2). Able to refute false teaching (Titus 1:9). They must be ready to earn their own living if necessary (Acts 20:17, 33-35). |

167 | What is Paul's "thorn in the flesh?' | 2 Cor 12:7 | inmyheart | 67521
Blessed One 1, Paul's thorn. "...There was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me…" (2 Corinthians 12:7). This verse is frequently used by ministers to prove that sickness can be the will of God, and that Paul was sick. First of all, even if Paul was sick, it is no proof that it was the will of God. David committed murder and adultery – was that the will of God? Judas betrayed Jesus – was that a moral act? Just because someone in the Bible did something does not automatically make it right. Even Satan is in the Bible. You have to read the implied principles from the experiences of biblical character as well as the directly stated principles in the Bible. Nevertheless, Paul was really a solid proof of the supernatural healing power of God – even in his experience. Many Christians have been deceived in this area. Notice Paul says he had "a thorn in the flesh." The words "scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes" in Joshua 23:13 are used to describe people; the words "thorns in your sides" in Judges 2:3 are also used the same way. Since when did it become a sickness? Paul was simply using an expression commonly used in those days. When you say, "Tom is a pain in the neck," you are talking about a person that bothers or annoys you, not a sickness. To further confirm that, Paul says the thorn was "a messenger of Satan." This tells us it was a person or demon, and that he was from Satan, not God. What Paul experienced was most likely persecution from people (inspired by Satan). Most of them followed Paul around to preach circumcision to the people right after Paul leaves a city. Some even reacted to Paul's preaching with physical violence. This is why the evil spirit or "messenger" was a "thorn in the flesh," or a "pain in the neck." You need to know the truth about the biblical passages that have been used to preach sickness. Many times those passages are some of the greatest proofs for healing. Some of them prove neither healing or sickness – just the need for wisdom. For example, if the Bible says that someone accidentally fell off a building and died, does that prove sickness, or that it is not God's will to heal and protect? No, it proves the need for wisdom and caution. By the way, this happened and Paul resurrected the dead man by the power of God (Acts 20:9-12). God bless as you study God's Word! |

169 | What is the people sin? | NT general Archive 1 | inmyheart | 67125
Eph 1:11, In Him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of His will. As you can see, you were not born on earth with no choice, God planned you. He created you to be a member of His family, but each one of us has gone our way. Isaiah 53 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. God loves you my friend, so much so that He sent His only Son to redeem you. John 3:16. God is not against you, read Jeremiah 29:11-13. The questions you are asking, are the same ones that I had asked also, you see we are all seeking the answer to why we are here on earth. God answered us in His written Word, the Bible. Give your life to God today, repent of your sins, through His Son Jesus, ask Him to be the Lord and Savior of your life. He will come into your life, and change that name, CONFUSING, and give you a name with meaning, and put it in the Book of Life! God bless |

170 | How assured? | Rom 8:16 | inmyheart | 67122
biblesearcher, Here are a few verses that answer your question, there are many more. 1 John 5 11, And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12, He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13, I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. Romans 5 1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Romans 10 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. God bless |

171 | Are we healed already? | Is 53:5 | inmyheart | 67119
Searching for Truth, The Source and Origin of Sickness. In a very real sense, all sickness began because of sin. Physical death itself had started because of the sin of Adam: “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned” (Romans 5:12). Many individual instances of sickness had occurred since then as a direct result of specific sins. For example, after having healed a man who “had been an invalid for thirty-eight years” (John 5:5), Jesus said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you” (John 5:14). Although sickness itself had started due to Adam’s transgression, this is not to say that every instance of sickness is due to a specific sin that the individual has committed. In John 9, when Jesus and his disciples came across a man blind from birth, the disciples asked, “Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” (v.2).Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned” (v. 3). In other words, not every instance of sickness can be traced back to a particular sin. However, even if a particular instance of sickness is the direct result of a sin that one has committed, the word of God says that there is forgiveness for such a one. James 5:15 says, “The prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.” We should be careful before determining the spiritual reasons for someone’s sickness. There are a number of reasons and it may not be a sin, so do not judge a person base on limited and inaccurate information. The person may not have sinned. He may have contracted the sickness and allow it to remain due to lack of wisdom or ignorance of the Scriptures, or some other reasons. God bless |

173 | "My sin is no worse than [that] sin...?" | Romans | inmyheart | 66895
Henri, Thank you for responding, your reply was a blessing. When Moses came back down from the mountain and saw God's people worshipping the idol, he threw the tablets, because to break one law, was to break them all, James 2:10-11, also see verses below; Deuteronomy 9: 16, When I looked, I saw that you had sinned against the LORD your God; you had made for yourselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way that the LORD had commanded you. 17, So I took the two tablets and threw them out of my hands, breaking them to pieces before your eyes. 18, Then once again I fell prostrate before the LORD for forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water, because of all the sin you had committed, doing what was evil in the LORD's sight and so provoking him to anger. This is what you stated; "How does one respond with specificity when a person says that their sin is no worse than any other specific sin?" What seperates your relationship to God? Is it not sin? The penalty for sin in OT was death. Now that Jesus paid the penalty for our sin by the shedding of His blood, we have forgiveness through grace. Do we continue to sin? NO. We were not only made for God's Pleasure and formed for God's Family, but we were Created to Become Like Christ. As we fulfill God's will for our life, our purpose, God develops our character. Our focus is not on sin, but on becoming Christ-like. Phl 3:12 Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Phl 3:13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, Phl 3:14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Phl 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; Phl 3:16 however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained. NASB I pray that I hear from you soon, continue in the will of God, Ephesians 2:10. God bless |

176 | Reconciliation after Divorce- Burning ? | Ps 15:1 | inmyheart | 66700
JennyLC, "Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery" (Luke 16:18). If there is any doubt, this also applies to wives. "And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery" (Mark 10:12). Since the lord would not contradict Himself, we should conclude that, while there may be some situations in which extramarital sex would create such problems in a marriage that divorce would be better than continuing in an unhealthy or even dangerous relationship, in general it would be better to forgive earlier indiscretions (if accompanied by repentance and present faithfulness) rather than to break up what might otherwise still be a good marriage. In both cases, however, Christ warned that remarriage after divorce amounts to adultery, a sin which is explicitly forbidden by God's seventh Commandment. Both divorce and remarriage, therefore, are extremely serious steps, and both violate the divine principle of permanent union and faithfulness in marriage. But this is not the whole story. "The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy . . . For He knoweth our frame; He remembereth that we are dust" (Psalm 103:8, 14). "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins" (I John 1:9). This promise is specifically for Christians, and includes even the sin of adultery, if there is genuine repentance. The Lord made this very clear in His dealing with the woman who "was taken in adultery, in the very act" (John 8:4). He reminded her accusers that they also were sinners and had no warrant to punish her. Then He told the woman: "Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more" (John 8:11). God bless you. |

180 | Is depriving encouraging adultery? | 1 Cor 7:5 | inmyheart | 66462
mpa, Get involved with your wife. This situation did not arise overnight, it's been going on for sometime. However don't let the devil rob you of your blessings and throw you marriage away by committing sin (adultery). The turn around in this situation might not come overnight, but stay in there and work on your marriage, in the long run you will be happy that you did, and God will honor your prayers. There may be others who will give you encouragement, but it starts with you. God will never leave you nor forsake you, His plans for you are not to harm you. God bless |
