141 | Perfection? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 187086
How, however, does one know they are one that has been perfected in the first place?
142 | Is perseverance certain? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 187085
Then the question still remains unsanswered.
143 | Concern and desire evidence salvation? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 187084
So if one has a concern for their own spiritual state and a desire to know God, they can be infallibly certain that they are saved?
144 | Experience with performance? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 187083
Then, are saying that experience ("the change you have experienced") accompanied with performance ("We must crucify the flesh") are evidences of genuine salvation?
145 | Spirituality is evidence of salvation? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 187082
Are you saying that a spiritual experience is evidence of salvation? |
||||||
146 | Experience is evidence? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 187080
That "Jesus Christ is the only way into Heaven" is not being questioned; assurance of salvation is. It is one thing to know the way, another thing to know that one is truly in the way, and still another to know that one will never go out of the way. |
||||||
147 | Experience assures salvation? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 187079
It does not seem that the questions are difficult to understand. In addition, if genuine faith requires an assurance that one is saved, it is not unreasonable to expect an answer; moreso, and answer would be vital.
148 | Can the Spirit be impersonated? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 186996
ebrain, 1. How can one be sure that the "good fruits" produced today will continue until death? That is, how can one know his fruits are genuine? 2. Cannot one be deceived into believing the Spirit that bears witness within him is true when, in fact, it is demonic? |
||||||
149 | Looking into the heart for assurance? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 186994
It seems to me that prosperity or poverty have no necessary bearing on either the difficulties or ease of faith; it depends on the person's perspective. There are those who have found it hard to believe and those who found it easy to believe in both circumstances. In any case, you do not seem to have answered the question. I am not discussing expressions of genuine faith; I am discussing genuine faith itself. How does one know that the faith he professes to have in Christ is genuine so as to have obtained salvation? Are there not those who, having "looked into [their] heart for the truth of what [they] believe", have been deceived? |
||||||
150 | Experience is evidence? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 186993
That still fails to answer the question. Here is how I see it: Assurance seems to have no bearing on maturity or immaturity; certainty is certainty. Either you have assurance or you do not. If my father, when I'm 13, promises to buy me a car when I'm 21, without any conditions and I believe him, my maturiaty or immaturity has no bearing on the promise and, therefore, is irrelevant. It neither proves nor disproves that the car will be given. As such, I fail to understand how experience or growth can give any evidence of salvation and thus give be any form of assurance. Therefore, the question still remains unanswered: How do I know for sure I am saved? Or, another way to put it, how can I be assured now that when I die God will take me? |
||||||
151 | Experience assures salvation? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 186988
1. Therefore, feelings/experience give evidence of salvation? 2. What about those who felt Jesus and after some years fell away? From your analogy, it seems we must assume they were genuine believers. 3. If it is suggested that those in the example above were not true believers in the first place, that is, their feelings/experience has deceived them into believing something that is not true, how can another be assured that what they have tasted is the real thing? |
||||||
152 | E-Security only for true believers? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 186986
ebrain, I did not say that Matt 7:21 referred to genuine Christians. I did say, "eternal security is provided for those who are genuine believers." |
||||||

John, Yes, you may assume... |
||||||
154 | Is perseverance certain? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 186935
1. I would think once assured there would be no growth in assurance; certainty is certainty. Nevertheless, are you not "quantifying" the evidence by stating "the more change, the more Christ-like," etc? 2. The specific issue in question is not being "more Christ-like" but assurance of salvation. If "more" is required, how much to be certain, that is, to be assured of salvation? 3. If doubt lingers, is that being assured? 4. How can one be certain that the changes are coming from a genuine possession salvation? 5. If we are not saved by works/performance, how can they be sure and unfailing evidences of one's salvation? 6. How can one be certain today that he will persevere until tomorrow? That is, how can one be absolutley certain that his perseverance will continue until his death? |

John, You're forgiven... |
||||||
156 | E-Security only for true believers? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 186929
Hank, Unless I am mistaken, "eternal security" is provided for those who are genuine believers. How can one be certain they are a genuine believer and thus certain that they are in possession of eternal security? I missed where the gotquestions' article covers this. |
||||||
157 | Faith that is self-centered? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 186926
AF, It should be noted that Jesus' performance is not in question, nor is his heart, etc. What is in question is the genuiness of one's own heart. If it is true that the heart is deceitful, how does one know for sure that they are really believing in Jesus with all the heart and that it is not, for example, a belief with ulterior motives or a belief that is self-centered, that is, mere desire and not true believing? |
||||||
158 | Real change? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 186925
CDBJ, 1. Have not people successfully changed their lives that were not professing to be Christians? 2. Were there not Christians who after confessing that it was Jesus who changed their lives proved, after awhile, reverted back and showed the change to be unsuccessful? 3. If the above questions are admitted "yes", how does one know for certain that the change they experienced is genuine? |
||||||
159 | How does one know their faith is real? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 186922
John, If salvation is not based on works/performance but faith in Jesus, how does one know that the faith he professes to have towards Jesus is genuine? |
||||||
160 | How can one know faith is genuine? | Matt 7:21 | Lookn4ward2Heavn | 186921
AF, If not by my performance but by "faith in Jesus' performance", how does one know that the faith they profess to have in Jesus is genuine? |
