142 | Is the sin nature a substance or mindset | Phil 3:9 | Ken hepting | 100439
[Please stop arguing and answer my questions. Is the sin nature a substance or a mindset? Has the sin nature been eradicated and replaced by the new nature? Or does the sin nature remain in the believer and battle against the new nature? Is the sin nature the same thing as the flesh? What is the new nature? Is it God in me or is it a part of me that is a new creation? Is the new nature a substance or a mind set?] Who's arguing? You asked Joe, not me. The Bible says the flesh wars against the Spirit therefore one needs to ask the meaning of the term "flesh". Is the "flesh" you? your soul? Are YOU just someone/something just caught in the middle ....Or are you [us] an autonomous being able to see both [clue here] "natures" when we are born again? Does John 3.3,5 enable us to see both natures as well as the kingdom of God? I think so. What do you think? [PS Ken, I'm glad you found the Keswick article helpful to you.] Yes. I was wondering if there was anybody before me who thought about things as I did. Still can't see how they strayed and went into [What I believe to be] error on somethings. |

Well perhaps you should heed the warning and stop preaching him. I would. I like this forum and sense there are a few good folk here who sense what the issues are and seek discussion without being persuaded to accept an "indoctrination" into something of a cult nature. |

I understand but it is not from a theological perspective that I discuss such men. Why they did it is a subject that will always be debated with no one winning. The fact they did it is of a historical nature. Augustine, Luther, Calvin, et al; have left marks on history that we have responsibilty to see and be cautious that we don't take into ourselves another gospel from them or anyone.. God didn't permit it and when He saw it happening He raised up another denomination to counter it. All having a truth but none having all of it. So if persecution comes for your way make sure it's because of preaching Jesus and not someone else.

[And I hate to tell you this, but New England was "heavily influenced by his thinking," as you put it.] Yep..Salem witch trials and all. |

[Caution: Detrimental remarks especially Calvinism/Arminianism is not permitted. Continued abuse of the rule will lead to loss of posting priviledges.] Well, if I was speaking of Jesus in that tone I believe you would be correct. Calvin was a man like all the rest of us. He made gross mistakes in his thinking that lead to much blood-letting and destruction. Our national Constitution is written in way to prevent what he did in Geneva, from ever happening again. People came to these shores to escape government and persecution heavily influenced by his thinking. That just history, John, not my opinion. If we've reached a point we can't speak of history on a forum such as this where all should be willing to know while not distorting the truth for advantage, we're in big trouble. Satan wins another one. |

149 | How do you "share the Gospel?" | Matt 28:18 | Ken hepting | 100378
You wrote: "But if you desire of Him and become what He desires, what is our responsibility? [At the present time we have two different perspectives on how God sanctfies His saints. You seem to be focused on our responsibility and I'm focused on God's soveriegnty in the process of sanctification.] Lets be clear, I believe in the sovereignity of God. Sanctification is a proccess, an impartation of the righteoussnes of Christ. It happens as we learn how to abide in Christ, enter into His kingdom, take up our cross and become a son to the end that He can trust us with the handling of His Glory. This proccess should begin at the beginning when we are imputed His righteousness unto salvation/Justification. But alas and alac, Most go no further. Many are called...few choose. Consequently, few are chosen. [It is a complex and mysterious relationship.] Not if you fall in love with Jesus and let Him baptize you with His Holy Spirit. [In a way, we are both right! We are commanded to do certain things and to hold certain attitudes and it is our responsibility to strive to be obedient and to be faithful reflections of our Lord.] I believe we are to quench not the Spirit for when we do we break communication and the ability to receive the impartation God desires us to receive. Some of us require a heart bypass. [At the same time we must not overlook or ignore the teaching that it is not ourselves who do good works, but it is the Spirit of Christ in us.] I don't think so. I'll give you this...Our works should be as Jesus [the man] spoke: "I only do what I see my Father doing". Paul said he lived "by the faith OF the son of God". In this sense the verse that says "Faith without works is dead", now makes real sense. The relationship is now revealed as to whether one is burning oil or wick. Jesus is always working and making intercession on our be half. Should we do less for others but with the mind of God and not our own wits? [Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.] You verse from Eph. is quite fitting for what I'm saying. [The way I see it is that we are to act AS IF it all depends on us, but not forget, that it all depends on Him.] Our first responsibilty is to get minds stayed on Him. Proverbs 16:9 (NASB-U) The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps. I would say that the mind of man should be the MIND of God that the man be directed without a mis-step because of his "flesh". [Remember...even our initial desire for Christ did not come from our us but from above!] Again, you aren't distinguishing between justification and sanctification. Man sees his need, some respond, some don't. The woman with the issue of blood had a need, saw Jesus and became convinced. Her faith, from a need, did the trick. I think that's why there so few rich Christians in the world. We interfere with the purposes of God more than we know when try to run interference for Him by "blessing" others when He's dealing with them. [John 3:27 John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.] Very true...and what stirs God to give? "If we don't know how to accomplish the task what should we recognize about ourselves that needs to be rectified?" [For that we need revelation from the Holy Spirit.] How's that accomplished and if you don't get it do you make a move? |

150 | Those that live blameless will see Jesus | Matt 28:18 | Ken hepting | 100372
[Ken please elaborate with Scripture. Where does God's Word say that "Those that live blameless will see Jesus"? Isn't this a works based salvation?] Did Job ever see Jesus? |

151 | Scriptural support of your position? | Matt 28:18 | Ken hepting | 100371
[You might consider this: the dead were judged according to their deeds which were written in the books - those who lived apart from the law, did not have their "wrongs" according to the law recorded there (Romans 5:13) which you offered.] Well then wouldn't you then suppose their names to be written the book of life? [BUT this does not mean that their names are in the Book of Life for God's Word declares that the righteous will live by faith - He imputes His righteousness on the basis of our faith.] Well wouldn't you suppose they lived with a hope of something beyond themselves God honors as faith because of their blamelessness? What else can a LOViNG God require of an innocent people? [I didn't say pure; without sin] Creation, as you pointed out, gives them [some] the hope. |

154 | How do you "share the Gospel?" | Matt 28:18 | Ken hepting | 100362
[So I would say that Love is not a name for God. Love is the gift that He gives. He gives the holy spirit to us.] Contextually, Ray, I believe you to be quite wrong. I can't go into it but volumes are written about God being beyond our wildest imagination in regards to love. To say His name isn't synomonus with love is to not understand that. Love is the very heart of God and one might say Jesus is the expression [lips] of that heart. No, I think His name is LOVE. |

1 John 4:13 (NASB-U) By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. I have five other versions that agree with this one. |

Rev. 20:12 (NASB-U) And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds. What book will your name be written in and why? |

You wrote: "Where there is no law sin [the penalty for being born in it] is NOT imputed." (Where does Scripture say this is so? pbs) Romans 5:13 (NASB-U) for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. |

[God does not want you to do the work.] Yes He does. He just doesn't want us doing our thing. Jesus didn't do His own thing and He is always our example for our attitude.. [He wants you to be HIS instrument of righteousness. An instrument does not play itself. God is the musician we are the instruments.] I well understand. Thank you [When we are baptized with the Holy Spirit?] When are we baptized in the Holy Spirit? How do we know we are? [we have the Spirit of God which knows the mind of God living inside of us] How do we know that in a practical way that we can be certain that when we function we are functioning in Him as He desires? |
