Hi, Searcher56! Why do you suppose that is? ("returned to our divided branches") ...was something expectacular accomplished that no longer requires unity? God Bless! Angel |

"In almost every case, the epistles were written to a single church. What you and I would call a "local" church. Jesus, Himself, addressed individual churches in His messages through the apostle John. Since those were the situations that were being addressed, a proper hermeneutic would begin to seek application within that context." Hi, Doc! If I understand you correctly (see above) you are saying that there were only seven groups/local churches that were having problems so Jesus addressed them and ignore the others that were doing well? ...and the epistles... you are saying that they were only applicable to the very group/local church to which they were addressed hence, when Paul or any of the others would say something like "as I teach in all the churches" or "read at other church," these were mere catch phrases? I am not being critical... I truly want to understand your statement! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, CDBJ! I find it interesting how you support a study made by "experts" to deny something that pre-existed them for hundreds of years as part of the Bible while still demanding of EdB to clarify his position as to the classification of "experts" who rejected Jesus and whose contemporaries still reject Jesus and the whole of the New Testament as they are awaiting the "true Messiah!" I am also curious as to your ignorance of EdB's statement on Martin Luther's additional exclusions and the reformations reintegration of some of Luther's exclusions, then the rejection... then the reintergration, then... God Bless! Angel |

144 | I need an explanation of 1 John 5:10 | 1 John 5:10 | JCrichton | 149152
Hi, Ruth101! Jesus is God's Son... He came onto the world so that we may live... if we believe in Jesus, He grants us the Holy Spirit--who in turn brings us to the full understanding of God since the Holy Spirit searches everything, even the deepest places of God... to deny the Son, Jesus, is to call God a liar because God has stated that Jesus is His Son and that in Him He is pleased! The Sadducees and Pharisees were right on the money when they wanted to kill Him and replied to His statement that He made Himself equal to God! Yet, Yahweh's testimony, through the prophets, is that Joshua, Christos (the Anointed) would come to His people as the Emmanuel (the God-with-us) would be with them! When we deny Christ as the Son of God we deny God's Word: we are calling God a liar! So we believe that Jesus and the Father are One or we deny both the Father and the Son! God Bless! Angel |

145 | Filled with the holy spirit? | Mark 1:10 | JCrichton | 149151
Hi, Ray! I understand how you would opt to pencil in the text as to distinguish the Holy Spirit as the counselor and the Holy Spirit once He is in us... I suggest to you that He does not diminishes in His capacity, just as Jesus did not diminished as the Lamb of God... so whether to Holy Spirit is guiding the Church or indwelling in an individual, He is the Holy Spirit! (water as liquid, solid, gas is still water) ...and yes, the truth that is disclosed is Jesus so I emphasized this by capitalizing the "t" (Truth)... He is the truth/Truth that sets us free! (resurrection and life) Some Bible versions have "the spirit of sanctification;" yet, since we know that there is only one "spirit of sanctification," I suggest that the "s" in spirit should always be capitalized! It is the Holy Spirit that sanctifies the Word (both Christ and the Holy Scripture) and the believers! God Bless! Angel |

146 | Gentiles into Gods kingdom | Gen 48:19 | JCrichton | 149082
Hi, regguh! There are several passages in the Holy Scripture that speak either directly or indirectly about the Gentiles coming into the Kingdom of God: Romans 3:29; 9:24-32 (Hosea 2:23; 1:10); Romans 11:11-13; 11:25-32; Romans 15:10-12 (Isaiah 11:10). Jesus spoke of the Gentiles also, He told His disciples that there were others (Gentiles) not of their (Jewish) fold and that in Him they will become one (John 10:16)... it was from this vein that Paul speaks about the two becoming one in Jesus (Ephesians 2:11 thru 3:12). God Bless! Angel |

147 | Please Help | Revelation | JCrichton | 149081
Hi, Live4God! There are several themes going all at once in the book of Revelation... first of all it is prophetical, filled with symbolism and various time lines... Do not try to read all of it at once... and do not buy into the myriads of interpretations that exist out there... Revelation is a window into what will happen during the final stages of a spiritual war that began (as a prophecy) in Genesis 3:15... Read Genesis 3:15 and Revelation 12, then read through the rest of Revelation... if you do not have a Bible with a built-in concordance, please avail yourself of one or of a concordance dictionary... it is important not to read too much into anything as a single unit... if you take one chapter/passage at a time and related to other Scriptural passages you would be able to understand it better! Don't forget to always start your Bible Study by praying to our Lord asking for the Holy Spirit's guidance! Please feel free to post specific questions on the book of Revelation and/or other Biblical books. God Bless! Angel |

148 | please help | Acts 9:20 | JCrichton | 149080
Hi, Live4God! Read the first letter of John chapters 4 and 5--specifically read 1 John 4:15 and 1 John 5:5. Read also the first chapter of Luke--specifically Luke 1:26-38 and Mark 1:1! Satan and his minions also knew Jesus as the Son of God (Matthew 4:1-11; Mark 5:1-7). And if you like to hear from the mouth of Jesus religious contemporaries, read (John 1:49; John 19:7). God Bless! Hi, Ray! ...problem is that one of us loves Pepsy and the other Coke... they are uh sooo very close, but Pepsy lovers contend that theirs is the drink of the hour while Coca Cola lovers contend that theirs is the drink of the hour... I will offer you one more Scripture, though, from your previous interpretation, I doubt that you will see anything other than what you've already stated... In Acts 5:29-32 Peter concludes his thought by naming the Holy Spirit as both a witness (one who actively involved in an incident) and God's gift... I will also refer you to Acts 5:3 and 4 where Peter warns that Ananias lied to the Holy Spirit, not to man but to God... Also, Jesus did not say that He would give us many gifts that would teach us the fullness of Truth, He said that the Holy Spirit would teach us the fullness of Truth (John 16:13)... Further, it is not a gift that brings us to God but the thrid Person of God, the Holy Spirit... Christ Jesus is God and He does not need any gift in order to Exist... but the Holy Spirit was directly involved in both His incarnation (Luke 1:35) and resurrection (Romans 1:4--of course, since it doesn't say Holy Ghost/Spirit you would most likely argue that this passage is speaking about some sort of spiritual beign like an angel or something...); before you dismiss these passages, I suggest that you read related Scriptural passages and think of them collectively... by divorcing one segment of Scripture from all others we may get a warped understanding of God's Word... remember, Jesus did not leave a spirit in charge of the Church... it is only the other Paraclete who can lead and teach the Church, just as of old when He inspired the holy men of God to prophesy about God's Salvafic Plan. God Bless! Angel |

150 | So would this be correct? | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 149014
"So am I also to asume that if something has benifical and detramentel uses it's ok to use it as long as the way it's used is not out of the will of god it's ok?" Hi! You have surmised correctly! (I do not know how familiar you are with the Holy Scripture... so if I make quick general references without quoting book, chapter and verse and you need them please reply under the same thread so I can provide them...) There was a time when a centurion came to Jesus asking to cure his servant... as Jesus gestured to accompany him the centurion told Him that he understood His position and that as he related it to himself he knew that Jesus did not have to be in the presence of his servant to cure him... Jesus commented that He had not found such faith in Israel! This man happened to be a guard representing the occupying force in Israel... yet, Jesus looks into his heart and not his physical appearance or his social identity... Jesus knew that this man happened to be a Roman officer but that his heart and mind was humble to God as witnessed by his actions and conviction! It is the same for all Christians--Jesus expects and demands that we separate ourselves from the wickedness of the world... He does not demand that we remove ourselves from the world... just the conduct of the world... I remember hearing/reading about an old lady (or was it two) who was selling prescription drugs in her neighborhood... clearly there's nothing wrong with prescription drugs--moraly... many people with chronic ailments take them on a regular basis... but it is one thing for my Mom to take her prescriptions and another for me to abuse them! It is one thing for an elderly person (or any other person on prescription drugs) to take his/her prescriptions and another to distribute or make them accessible to others who will abuse them! One action is clearly righteous while the other is clearly unrighteous... as Christians, we must distinguish one action from the other and act upon the one that pleases God! I am not knowledgeable about the paper industry (some have claimed that the manufacturing hemp paper would be totally beneficial--something to do with the plant's rate of growth and yield) but if hemp would be the only natural resource from which paper could be manufactured for the printing of Bibles and once processed the paper would not have the property of Marijuana, then, yes, there would be no problem with such production... Conversely, if the paper would retain the properties of Marijuana, then it would be improper and anti-Christian for us to produce Bibles under such conditions... Another example... there was a time in the US when currency coins and electrical wires were made with silver... people began to hoard th coins, melt them down and resell them at a higher than face value... houses and buildings were stripped of their electrical wires, which were sold/melted and sold... clearly there was nothing unrighteous about the coins or the wires; but it became apparent that the opportunity for hoarding the metal would cost the governement and society great distress as more and more people would exploit the opportunity for easy, though destructive, silver (money)... It is the same with God! Anything that would bring about our spiritual damnation--no matter how well intended--we, as Christians, must abstain from participating in or facilitating othes with access to such items... Though Scripture does not speak on many things by name, we know, by doctrine, that God expects and demands that we obey Him and abstain from doing or causing unrighteousness to be present/produced... Keep reading the Holy Scripture... don't look for clauses (ways to avoid doing or ways to be able to do) that seemingly circumvent God... look for deeper understand on what God has revealed! God Command us to avoid becoming inebriated--it could be any product or thing that clouds our free will... that which controls us becomes our master (drugs, sex, power, intelligence, money, physical appearance, skills, possessions, even our own body or our friends or families)... there is one mayor Commandment that covers all of the above: Love the Lord, God, above all things! God Bless! Angel |

151 | Personal interpretation? | Eph 4:3 | JCrichton | 148986
Hi, WOS! Correct! Application is totally an individualized affair... we witnessed Christ and His disciples... He taught them all the same, He delegated the same authority when he sent them out to preach and baptized, all (with the exception of Judas) were sincerely searching for the Truth, but it was Peter who would always be at the ready... the other ten were eager, but Peter would step over himself to demonstrate his fellowship... The problem facing Christianity today is that too many "Christians" are interpreting Scripture according to the "politically correct philosophies" of the world... as society melds righteousness and unrighteousness a "new and improve" doctrine emerges--one that is modern and progressive... that continually evolves with the constant shifting principles of a moraly bankrupt liberal world... That of course IS NOT the Gospel of Christ! Jesus cautioned us to walk the narrow path and from of old God has explicitly stated that He is Eternal: not given to change with the whims of time... it is Christ we must follow, the narrow Path, not the world! God Bless! Angel |

152 | Personal interpretation? | Eph 4:3 | JCrichton | 148981
Hi, lionheart! I agree with you... we forever find ourselves in different levels of spiritual maturity and our life circumstances changes both the depth of understanding and the personal commitment to Christ... but ther is only One Gospel, and this Truth is being assailed by both "Christians" and the secular world... ie: believing that Christ is not God only endangers the soul that lives with such shortcomings... however, teaching others that contorted Scripture not only damns the teacher but has the potential to damn many others... Sadly many fail to understand John's warning: to deny the Son is to deny the Father! God Bless! Angel |

155 | Offspring?Long Life? | Is 53:10 | JCrichton | 148977
Hi, Starfire! Phew!... that's quite a load off my back! I understand your concerns... as a young child I hated the Jews (had never met one before) because they killed Jesus... as I began to understand more about the Holy Scriptures that thought/feeling faded... I can't even remember if I was four or three I just have a vague memory of being in the Church's grounds and speaking with other kids on Sunday School's material... Just as strong as that temporary feeling was, is my conviction that we (Christians) must pray for the conversion of man, and specially of the Jewish people... God's Divine Plan alloted for our coming into Grace by allowing the Jews to rebel... but as Scripture say, they are the natural Olive and we the ingrafted... Read Romans 9:1 through 11:32--this is a wonderful starting point to understanding why the Jews rejected Christ, why the Gentiles were brought into the fold, and how it will all end (specifically 11:32)! I liken the blindness of the Jews to that of the disciples when Jesus appeared to them after His resurrection: some were granted the sight to see Him and recognize Him while others were not granted the sight right away, but after a lengthy interchange... and even doubtful Thomas was not cast away but shown mercy and patience! I am sure that the problem of the Jewish people have transgressed history partly because of Divine Will and partly due to human nature: can you imagine you being the owner of a piece of land, a land that your family had for hundreds of years, and thabn one day someone comes along and takes the land from you? Your ego would almost explode! Now bring that up a notch (well, a million zillion notches) and we have the Jewish people vs. these Christians who have taken their God away and made Him in the image of that Christ character... totally unacceptable! It is our obligation to help them come back to the fold... the prayer of the saints can accomplish much (James 5:17-18; Ephesians 6:18) and it pleases God! You demonstrate great excitement for the Holy Scripture and for our Lord's roots (prophecies), please continue your quest and your life in Christ Jesus... be patient, though, if the people of Israel have not discover the fulness of Truth in over two thousand years, we (this generation of Christians) cannot expect to get it all right away either! I know of an organization of Messianic Jews, a magazine on Christianity with the Jewish perspective, and a couple of websites that can help you--I must look for the respective contacts and addresses... I will tag this segment of the thread as soon as I get them... If you ever want to discuss any of the material/Biblical passages you can drop an email at jcrichtonfs1@yahoo.com--I'll do my best to assist you... though I must warn you that I am biased towards Jesus... so my perspective migh not have the Jewish flavors/ambiance that you are getting from their site... God Bless! Angel |

Hi, Hank! If you believe the tabloids... they live among us! And for some reason they have made some place in South/Central America a spaceship port where they go to replenish their spent fuels (I have a little problem with that one since I cannot see a jetliner pumping coal into its fuel tank to replenish spent jet-fuel)... They are said to have huge mental prowes... they can take people at will and since they have the ability to bend time and space they can travel back and forth through time... doing whatever they please... I do find that they are (collectively as it is not just one species but several that are constantly visiting us) suffering from some type of persecution complex or some sort of schizophrenic delusion: with all their power and abilities they are afraid to be seen in public! God Bless! Angel |

157 | The gift of God | Mark 1:10 | JCrichton | 148960
Hi, terrib! It amazes me how close they can come to the Truth... it is almost a pop-faith... (the hand of God, the sleeper, the universe's super being (sounds like quizaht zadharak--or something to that effect), the "voice"... and doing a crossover to "the force..." though not quite exacting, they are speaking of Jesus Christ, God and the Holy Spirit! ...if only they would drink from the Fountain... perhaps they would discover why they seem to have needed to introduce such themes! God Bless! Angel |

Hi, EdB! You don't have to go too far... in North America you can witness the soup kitchens that would only serve those who come to their proselytizing... (I am not claiming that all soup kitchens are ran the same way--I have been told of some that do)... they might think that they are emulating Christ, but in His case, He did not seek contractual agreements... even when only one of ten lepers returned to Him, Jesus did not take back His physical healing from those who refused to thank God for His mercy! Even some "well-intentioned" workers travel through the US teaching borderline believers about their brand of "Christianity," placating even the slightest opposition (yeah, its war out there, in the streets of the US of A!)... God Bless! Angel |

159 | Personal interpretation? | Eph 4:3 | JCrichton | 148951
Hi, Lionheart! I'm jumping in on this one... I could not help it because there are way too many "personal" interpretations of Scripture... for these to be "personal applications" they would be confined to personal belief and practice... sadly, it is not so... there are waaaaay tooooo many "Christians" who do not practice Scripture but create their own "personal interpretations" and attempt to indoctrinate others with their never-before-understood-as-I-am-able-to-discern teachings of doctrine (our loving God is OK with sinners--go and do as you please; love your bretheren--those who are your blood/congregational relations; Scripture changes according to man's progress--so practice any form of worship, it's all God wants since Jesus preforgave all sins... so practice homosexuality; divination, and spiritism (inclusive of all other isms), you may even choose not to believe in God--God so loves and understands us that He is willing to accept us as we are!...) Personal interpretation of Scripture lead some to create their own religious bodies... some who, obertly or subtly, are actively engaged in the pursuit of removing Christ from His Divine Throne. They chose and pick Scripture, ignoring Truth and augmenting insignificant findings... these are spoken of by Peter and the other Apostles as they are called empty fountains who have already been judged! (2 Peter 2:1-22) God Bless! Angel |

160 | How do we know for sure Jesus is God? | 1 John 5:6 | JCrichton | 148940
Hi, pgs! Read John 1:1-18 (John the Evangelist, Jesus' disciple) was granted an understanding of Logos, the Word, that no other had before him... John spoke about Jesus Christ existing along side of God and being God... Comapare this to Paul's revelation in Hebrews 1:1-14... here, it is Yahweh Himself who tells us that the Son, Jesus Christ, is God! Now combine these with all of the Old Testament statments made by Yahweh, through His prophets, and we find that there is only One God (Isaiah 43:10-13)... God is Eternal, He never changes, so He existed as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit for ever unto eternity! (We know that the Holy Spirit is the third Person of God because Scripture tells us so: Acts 5:3-4; 4:25-26--Ref: Psalm 2:1-2; Acts 3:7-11--Ref: Psalm 95:6-11; Hebrew 10:15-16) John in his 1st Epistle reveals to us the relationship between Christ, God, and the Believers: 1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 6This is the one who came by water and blood–Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7For there are three that testify: 8the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9We accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. 10Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:1-13) See how intertwined the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are? (Check also 1 Corinthians 12:3; Hebrews 9:14 and 2 Peter 1:21) There are some who reject the Holy Scripture or attempt to twist God's Word, by insinuating everything from vocabulary definition; translations; to outright distortion of God's Word... there is no escaping it: Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and He is God! God Bless! Angel |
