1401 | Jesus separated fron the Trinity? | Mark 15:34 | JCrichton | 106569
Why was Jesus forsaken? My though is that if Jesus' purpose was to assume our place in the cross (sacrifice for our sins) and to take onto Himself our sin (redeeming us and cleansing us) He had to go it alone--without the Father and without the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 3:18). As God He gave His life for us and as the perfect offering He purchase us back from sin. The Man Jesus paid the price (physical death), and God Jesus also paid the price (forsaken by the Father and the Holy Spirit) when he absorved our sin. God Bless! |

1402 | Pledge, "under God", WWJD? | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 106567
Hi, Tim! You have touched on the true point of debate. The founding fathers were concerned with the immidiate subjugation and suffering under the tyranny of England. They were concerned with having the freedom to worship, to pursuit happiness, to defend themselves, to gather together in a peaceful and constructive environment. They did not seek to carry automatic weapons or to censure the Church. We as a society embrace useless values (preached via the entertainment industries and the mass media) and, also as a culture, reject sound and spiritual values. When prayer was removed from public schools did that improve their environment? Did the mandates to teach sexual education in public schools, plan parenthood, and the distribution of needles and contraceptives irradicate the existing problems? Removing God from the pledge or from the dollar bill will certainly not bring a massive improvement on our nations moral and spiritual standing. When we remove God from our lives what/who replaces Him? God Bless! |

1403 | what do you understand by this verse | Rom 6:15 | JCrichton | 106565
Hello, chesi! I'm not sure if you have read all the responses to your post or if you are satisfied with them... My two... Romans 8:1-14 (4). There's no justification in the Law, not because the Law is fraudulent or imperfect (the Law is God's Word) but because it was placed in our hands and as sinners we corruptedly interpreted and applied the Law (i.e.: when checking adultery there's never a mention--OT or NT--of the man caught in adultery). In Romans 8:1-14 and 6:15 Paul is emphasizing that we cannot corrupt the Law (sin) and claim that we can because we are above the Law. He clarifies that only in Jesus can we be justified (Romans 8:4) because we aren't able to fulfill the Law. Yet in Christ we can fulfill the Law--but for His grace! Has God offer a clause (Romans 6:15) to circumvent the Law? Can we claim to have Jesus and willfully live a sinful life? As Paul says, God forbid! God Bless! |

1404 | Where did the three Kings come from | Matt 2:1 | JCrichton | 106564
Hi, james! EdB is correct, there's no number stipulated. I want to add that they were not there at the time of birth. Matthew 2:11 notes that: when they saw the child with the mother, they worshiped him. A second passage tells us about Herod giving orders to kill all the boys in Bethehem and its neighborhood (other towns perhaps) who were two years old or younger. Now, the shepherds (Luke 2:8-20, 21) were able to see Christ during the day of His birth. God Bless! |

1405 | Is there peace on earth? | Luke 2:14 | JCrichton | 106563
Hi, Mommapbs! In Matthew 24 Jesus talks about the coming of times--there is no peace in the hands of humanity. But there is a peace on earth, it is Christ's own peace (John 14:27) and Paul reminds us of this in 1 Thessalonians 5:3. Remember how intelligent and wise the Masters of the Law, Pharisees, Sadducees, etc. thought they were? They remove the stumbling stone and were headed for long lasting peace... but Jesus had prophesied that the Temple would be totally destroyed (a military assult on the Temple would cause the greatest devastation and upheaval)--it happened in 70AD! They did not seek Jesus' everlasting peace so they missed the boat! God Bless! |

1406 | Why should we pray? | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 106562
Hi, scott! Is this a Bible/Religious youth group? If it is, you must first explain to all the members what the group is about (prayer, Bible study, wholesome--Biblical definition--recreational activities, etc.); secondly, establish ground rules (i.e.: those not ready to join the prayers should engage in quiet activities that would respect the prayer session and the rest of the members who are praying); lastly, engage them in activities that are constructive and educational. Regardless of the type of youth group, know that their background is not conductive to humble exchange. You as a spiritual leader must use Jesus formula for forgiveness (70 x 7--not that there is a set limit on forgiveness); also, you must organize activities that can help them discover their constructive abilities. You must not scold them for not understanding what prayer is or for not joining enthusiastically. And PRAY for their enlightenment. You might also want to include religious videos, organize an art/performing art club (with emphasis on Jesus--His birth, private and public life, miracles, suffering, death, resurrection... God Bless! |

1407 | did jesus go to hell | 1 Pet 3:18 | JCrichton | 106559
So Jesus parable about Lazarus (not Mary's and Martha's brother) should be taken in a literal sense that there is a visual connection between heaven and hell and that Abraham (the father of faith) is there receiving those who die in the faith? And when Jesus talks about the lakes of fire (hell) he is only reflecting on the Jewish folklore and appealing to their fear? And when Martha mentioned that she knew that her brother, Lazarus, would be raised on the last day, Jesus did not bother to correct her misinterpretation of "when" we'll be resurrected? And when Paul talks about those who died in the Lord will be raised first, he just means the ones who just died during that day of our Lord's Second Coming? I can't cite a refernce point--except from my own personal Bible studies. God Bless! |

1409 | what does the bible say about poligamy? | Bible general Archive 2 | JCrichton | 106473
annette, hi! There are many situations in the Old Testament where poligamy is practiced openly by the people of Israel. Two of the most confusing examples are David and Salomon. These were God's anointed kings. Their devotion to God and His Commandments was evident at the beginning of their carreers. David refuse to take Saul's life in order to gain the promised kingdom and Salomon asked only for wisdom to rule Israel... Yet they both became weak and gave in to their carnal pleasures: David took the wife of one of his generals (he even murdered him in order to hide his wickedness!), and Salomon, perhaps seeking the vanity of youth and manhood, became a hoarder of females. What I find relevant is Jesus' stand on poligamy: Matthew 5:31-32 and, more specifically, Matthew 5:27-28 "you have heard how it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say this to you, if a man looks at a woman lustfully, he has already committed adultery with her in his heart." Jesus may not have mentioned the word poligamy. But He left no doubt to what God expects of us on this matter. And not everyone welcomed Jesus' revelations. The Pharisees must have heard about His anti divorce stand and they ckecked Him: Matthew 19:3-9. Even Jesus' disciples were having problems with His marriage decree: Matthew 19:10. I hope that this has been of use to you. God Bless! |

1410 | did jesus go to hell | 1 Pet 3:18 | JCrichton | 106472
Jesusman, Hi! I know that I may not be the most learned person in the world, but I have some problems understanding the Scriptures: is Satan in hell now? (Revelation 20:7-10) Where did Jesus go at His death? (Matthew 27:45-46) Why would God abandon Jesus? (Mt 27:46) Where are the imprisoned spirits of those who died before Jesus? (1 Peter 3:18-22) What is the world below that Paul speaks so knowingly about and what is his purpose in this play of ascention and descension? (Romans 10:6-7) Jesus is God! His Way is not our ways! His Purpose is not our purpose! But we must reason from His teachings: "You believe in God (Father) believe also in me." I cannot understand how we are to be resurrected (either on our time of death or at a mass resurrection), but I know that Jesus is the Resurrection and Life. So when He told the thief, on the cross, that "In truth I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise." I believe that that man is in paradise as of the moment that Jesus promised. God Bless! |

1411 | did jesus go to hell | 1 Pet 3:18 | JCrichton | 106471
Hi, kalos! I just read my first reply (John 10:19-25), I found that I used a reference from another reply (I write down the Bible verses and make notations next to them). Do not think that I am questioning your faith! Thank you for understanding! Maran atha! |

1412 | did jesus go to hell | 1 Pet 3:18 | JCrichton | 106469
Hello, kalos! I am new to this Forum--when I receive notification of a reply I upload from the format. The original reply was in reference to Christmas. I had made the comment about writers and film makers using much of the supernatural depictions in the Bible as a source of creation. The UFO theory in Ezekiel was mentioned and I tried to clarify that any doctrine that attempts to distort the Bible's teachings should be taken as entertainment (i.e.: the Force--Star Wars). Perhaps when I was trying to respond to the UFO note, I erred in the selection. If you are familiar with the Forum's procedures, please feel free to post a how to on your next response to me. God Bless! |

1413 | Son of David?Son of Abraham?Seed? | Gen 17:7 | JCrichton | 106466
Hello, Ray! In my fervor to study the Scriptures I will no doubt err in expressing my thoughts. I believe that Jesus is God so when I write something expressing my views I emphasize a word/title by capitalizing the first letter. Words such as plan, salvation, promise, inheritance, etc. if I refer them to Jesus most likely I will capitalize them. And because I am running with various thoughts, I may lose the point that, as in your case, is being made about Biblical capitalization. I did not mean to disrespect your position nor our Lord's Divinity. God Bless! |

1414 | 13 Tribes or 12 Tribes? | Genesis | JCrichton | 106464
Correct! Since the tribe of Levi were separated to serve the Lord with the religious duties (priesthood, altar, etc.) Joseph's sons were incorporated in the naming of the tribes so that there would still be twelve tribes (representing the sons of Jacob. My question is, what happened to the tribe of Dan? Joshua 19:40-48 tells us of the aportion of land they received; while Revelation 7:1-5 (5-8) omits Dan as one of the twelve tribes of Israel. I must have missed something about the tribe of Dan, since it was excluded as one of the tribes at the same time that Levi was included as part of the twelve tribes! Thanks for your comments. God Bless! |
||||||
1415 | 13 Tribes or 12 Tribes? | Genesis | JCrichton | 106457
Correct! The distribution plans for the land included 6 cities of refuge, and no land for the tribe of Levi since they were to be a separate tribe for the service of the Lord. Hence the two sons of Joseph! I call your attention to Revelation 7:1-5 (5-8) where Joseph is interchanged with Ephraim, Levi is included and Dan is excluded. We find that there are still twelve tribes, but thirteen names (Judah, Reuben, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, Benjamin--all included, and Dan--excluded. Joshua 19:40-51 tells us of the distribution of land to the tribe of Dan. I am not questioning God's Plan--my query is what happened to the tribe of Dan that cuased it to be omitted in Revelation's 144K? I must had read through that part too quickly to have missed the issue altogether. God Bless! |

1416 | did jesus go to hell | 1 Pet 3:18 | JCrichton | 106456
John 20:19-25 Jesus came to the disciples, demonstrated that it was really Him, breathed on them giving them the Holy Spirit, and instituted the Church. Then, just as when He was twelve, there is silence about his exact whereabouts and doings--till the next episode, 8 days later (20:26) when Jesus was candid with Thomas about his (and ours)doubt--faith is trusting in God, not verifying things for our own ego trip. Faced with this humbling experience Thomas had the sense to worship and recognize that Jesus is "Lord and God." Any doctrine (new wave or old school) that denies God's Word can only be, at best, entertainment. |

1417 | Two Christmases? | Is 9:6 | JCrichton | 106450
Correct! That is why Jesus was adamant when He offered us His peace, not the peace of the world; and He was very explicit when He warned "I am the vine" and that we are the "branches." And Timothy 6:3 warns that we are not to allow ourselves to be derailed from the Truth! God Bless! |

1418 | Son of David?Son of Abraham?Seed? | Gen 17:7 | JCrichton | 106429
Hello, Ray! The Plan (God's) existed from the very beginning. Genesis 3:15 is a charged verse depicting the Spiritual struggle of Satan vs. Jesus (amplified in Revelation 12). This seed will come into a human form in Jesus through the lineage of David who is Abraham's successor (Matthew 1:1, 2-17). Jesus was often spoken of as the great prophet and, since He seemed to have originated in Galilee, it was an easy built-in excuse for the unbelievers to base their apprehensions on. A parallel thought existed that said that no one would know where the Messiah would come from--since Jesus was Born in Bethlehem, Judea, exactly as the prophecy fortold these people were prooven oh so wrong! They were so determined to bring Jesus down a peg or two, that they missed the prophecy completely: they truly did not know of his origins (celestial/earthly). Remember that God's Word will not fail. Yes, it is true that the promise was originally made to Abraham, the father of faith, (who expected the coming of Christ) but he did not experience the encarnation of the Word (though Jesus tells us that he did, in the Spirit: John 8:56). Then the promise was made also to David, who wanted to build a temple to God; he was told that he would have a decendant occupying his throne for ever (what mere mortal could do that?)--Jesus, the eternal Priest and King fulfilled the Promise! (Hebrews 1:8, 4:14-16) Ray, that Promise was alive because it was God's Promise. God did not give a specific time He just said I will keep my Promise (Hebrews 11:1-40). And you are correct in saying that God ratified the covenant in Jesus--Matthew 11:10-15. Jesus is our Promise, our Inheritance! God Bless! |

1419 | Did the Son exit before God exiting? | John 1:1 | JCrichton | 106424
brown, Hi! This sounds very much like the proverbial chicken/egg... God is the I AM. This explains all. There is no before, no during, and no after. There are some religious doctrines that want to place a plateau of existence for God. But clearly, Yahweh state that He is the Only God, that there are no gods beside Him, that before Him there was no god, that He does not cede His Glory (Power) to anyone, and that no god came into being after He (Isaiah 43:10-11, 42:8, 41:4). Only by faith in His Word can we truly begin to grasp that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are One God who has revealed Himself to us in three distinct yet equal persons (1 Corinthians 12:1-11 and Matthew 28:19). It is confusing. But we are not alone! Jesus promised that he would send the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, who will teach us everything, and will remind us all that He had taught. Listen to what Paul said to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 2:10, 12) "to us, though, God has given revelation through the Spirit, for the Spirit explores the depths of everything, even the depths of God. Now, the Spirit we have received is not the spirit of the world but God's own Spirit, so that we may understand the lavish gifts God has given us." I hope this has helped. God Bless! |

1420 | 13 Tribes or 12 Tribes? | Not Specified | JCrichton | 106420
From Genesis to Revelations there are various names used to represent the twelve tribes of Israel. I did a personal study of the tribes and found that there are thirteen tribes not twelve: in the Old Testament there are various names interchanged; one name or another being excluded/included in the list. And on the New Testament one particular tribe is excluded while the rest are included. Has anyone else seen this fact. Can you explain why, especifically in Revelation, is Dan omitted as one of the tribes?
