1301 | People want answers! | Prov 3:5 | JCrichton | 107882
Hi, Justme! You are so correct! I jumped on a recent post and referred back to imnyheart's original posting without verifying the post's date. I think it was part due to the outward spiraling methodology of the forum: there seems to be no end to an argument or post, and my expectation that it was a current issue! Thanks for the "heads up," I too will verify the date of the post on my future engagements! God Bless! |

1302 | Please explain John 19:27 | John 19:26 | JCrichton | 107881
Hi, Betty Jones! I believe that things don't happen in a vacuum in the Bible. We can see many events typified from Genesis on. Jesus had a human mother who is bequeathed to a disciple (the one He loved?) which is typified in Revelation 12:17: "Then the dragon was enraged with the woman and went away to make war on the rest of her children, who obey God's commandments and have in themselves the witness of Jesus." These children were not her natural children; they were adopted children (as John). Many would like you to believe that that passage is talking about the Church; but clearly they are mistaken: Jesus birthed the Church, not the other way around! I must confess that I do have a question on John 19:27--I cannot understand why, since there were Biblical statements about Jesus' siblings--especially about James who is a prominent disciple, Jesus would bequeath His mother to someone other than a blood relative. Unless a) Revelation 19:27 applies or these siblings were not Mary's blood relatives! God Bless! |

1303 | will pour out My (my) spirit?Who?What | Prov 1:23 | JCrichton | 107880
Hi, Ray! I liken the spirit of wisdom to the gifts of the spirit (1 Corinthians 12:4-11); but this is not the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:6-16; John 14:15-17, 25-26; 16:7-11; Hebrews 3:7-11). Sadly, there are those who would want to silence the Truth about the Holy Spirit and demote Him to an electric current that has energy or even to simple human knowledge and reason. They read Proverbs 1:20 and appease themselves saying: "...see, it's only a good feeling, a thing God gives us (or something to that effect)." They ignore every Biblical passage that declares that the Holy Spirit is God! (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). God Bless! |

1304 | Were the babes of Sodom righteous? | Gen 18:26 | JCrichton | 107877
True, Searcher, Sodom and Gomorrah were not worshiping Yahweh; but still they were created in God's image (Matthew 5:45). I believe that the question is not did they worship Yahweh; it is were the children seen by God as righteous or unrighteous. Being that their parents were lost would Yahweh not permit some type of dispensation for them? Hence my post's reference to 1 Peter 3:18-22. Christ did not die for a select few: Romans 5:6. Further, as you pointed out there was no Israel, for Issac had yet to be born! So if you are saying that Christ did not die for those children (the original question assumes that there were children born in Sodom), then would you also say that God's Salvation Plan is flawed, for how could a three year old defy his parents and walk over to Abraham's camp? Jesus never said that children were automatically heaven's citizen; He said that only as children would we (those tarnished by sin) gain salvation. Children, at least Jesus' contemporaries, are innocent, loving, trusting, hungry for instruction, and humble. Thomas'(a great teacher: John 3:10) reactions to Jesus' teachings were confrontational and disbelief. Most of the interchange demonstrate just that point: we can go on in circles expanding from point a to z, including material that does not even shadow the original point, in an effort to prove something wrong or misinterpreted. When God spoke to Abraham about that one righteous person, did He include all the people? Did Yahweh make an exception for the children since Jesus' liberatinng grace was set for a distant future, or did He just figured "like father like son, let them all burn"? I do not presume to speak for my God, but I believe that there is Wisdom and Mercy beyond my understanding in Yahweh's Works. So I would rather think that He would have mercy on children who are way too ignorant to know and to choose righteousness! Since God is Love and Mercy--His Salvation could not be meant just for me! God Bless! |

1305 | People want answers! | Prov 3:5 | JCrichton | 107818
Hi, inmyheart! I hope you have followed the cascade your post created. In your search for God do not limit God by the people you find in your path. There are X number of religious sects (divisions and subdivisions): some want to baptize at birth; some want to baptize at man/womanhood; some want to baptize at age 30... some want to sprinkle; some want to semi-submerge; some want to fully submerge... some want you to speak in tongues; some want you to let your infants play with vipers; some want you to cure all ailments... As you pointed out there is only one God! And there's only one Way to God! But Jesus warned that there would be division: "I did not come to bring the peace..." "two in a bed--one taken..." Stay in this Forum or search out another source, just don't leave God out of your equation! Search the Scriptures agains any and all answers/comments that you receive! God Bless! P.S.: I have attached my post on your cascade: Subject: People want answers! Note: Indi, hi! Though it may seem that "I have no life" I came to this Forum searching for eBibles and dictionaries (hopefully I'll find some free or low cost that can assist me in my relegious endeavor). At first sight I thought I was in the wrong place: disrespect; name calling; oral assaults, gangs... My nearly 1st and last question was preceeded by a statement that expressed such concern. I was greeted by several members (one post included what I considered a hidden assault) yet I decided to stay. If this were an "expert" forum I would not be here! From early life I have learned that feeding answers to people does not equate to true teaching/learning, with the exception of Jesus Christ who by His Divine Will connected with the spirit of those he sought out. But the most forceful He ever got was: "those who have eyes; those who have ears..." "You can't do serious Bible study by asking questions and passively accepting the answers." Why doesn't every body see this? Children do not learn from their parents' tight reign and total dictatorship; they learn from their parents' vigilance, assistance and guidance! Believing in Christ Jesus requires an individual undertaking: "those who do not hate their... cannot be my disciples." Further, the only true way that there could be a clinically synchronized forum is if the "expert" are members of a single denominational congregation or if they condescend to one another: there's a phrase for that: political correctness (a misnomer attested by our recent and not so recent history). Again I quote you: "I commend the Lockman Foundation for having the courage and the faith to make this forum available. You folks are asking for a different web site with a different purpose." God Bless! |

1307 | What is God saying in this verse? | Gen 3:15 | JCrichton | 107815
Hi, Ray! I understand what you are saying. Rarely are there any parallels in the Bible that match to their counterparts exactly. The point I was making is that from Genesis 3:15 the whole struggle for power (from Satan's perspective) can be seen all the way to the end of times where Jesus Christ will ultimately defeat Satan and throw him into the lake of fire. The assault Satan attempts against the Throne of God is multifaceted: Lucifer plans to usurp God's authority, reclutes up to one third of the angels, loses that battle. Once cast out of heaven he then attempts to wreck creation--fails! Being close to the Power that Be (I AM) Satan has learned a thing or two and thus proceeds to murder the Infant; tempt Jesus; crucify the Lord... failing over and over and over... Final battle: Christ's siblings! Genesis 3:15 is like a stocked deck of cards: though comprised of a complete set of cards we have access to only the activated cards! God Bless! |

1308 | Were the babes of Sodom righteous? | Gen 18:26 | JCrichton | 107811
Hi, Searcher56! I think part of the problem is that we want to apply our finite knowledge to God's infinite Works. The babes of Sodom and Gomorrah were not born after the death and resurrection of Christ, they were born under the economy of the Law--a distinction we must make as under the Law we would be required to offer sacrife and atonement (animals, oil, grains...) for our sins. How many children were called by the Law to make sacrificial/thanks offerings? God is concerned with our temporal existence but only to the point that it can serve us to grow spiritually: Matthew 18:8-9) Would those who died in the flesh, before Jesus' fulfillment of the prophecies be eternally condemned? What does Peter says: 1 Peter 3:18-22. Did Christ not die for those babes as well? Christ Himself attest that God has made special provisions for the children: Matthew 18:10--and no, Jesus is not just refering to the young in the faith: Matthew 19:13-14! God Bless! |

1309 | In One Place | Acts 2:1 | JCrichton | 107803
Hi, Thomas8! For where two or three meet in my name, I am there among them.' (Matthew 18:20) One place is important--we are called to be one: John 17:21; pluralism is man's attribute. Being in one place (spiritually) is to be at one or to become one. Sadly, the Christian world is not ready for the fullness of Christ. As Paul said: "...for you are still living by your natural inclinations. As long as there are jealousy and rivalry among you, that surely means that you are still living by your natural inclinations and by merely human principles. While there is one that says, 'I belong to Paul' and another that says "I belong to Apollos' are you not being only too human?" (1 Corinthians 3:2-4) Christ warned us of the end of times when there would be a separation among the people: "I tell you, on that ninght, when two are in one bed, one will be taken, the other left; when two women are grinding corn together, one will be taken, the other left.'" (Luke 17:34-36) But it seems that we are too engrossed in our search for the Light (or is it earth bound wisdom that we seek?) that we have lost sight of what it means to be in the Light! Why don't we strive to be in One place? Ego! God Bless! |

1310 | Holy Spirit | Acts 10:14 | JCrichton | 107798
Hi, Thomas! It is evident that these verses do refer to the Holy Spirit! I can only tell you that it is just another of God’s mysteries: In Hebrews 3:7-11, Paul credit’s the Holy Spirit with the words of Psalm 95:7-11, where Yahweh admonishes the Hebrew people--hundreds of years prior to Christ‘s incarnation! And though the Old Testament does not reveal the Person of Christ to Israel, the Holy Spirit makes known to Paul that that rock was Jesus: 1 Corinthians 10:4, (Exodus 17:6; Numbers 20:11). Again in Acts 4:25-26 Peter says that it was the Holy Spirit who revealed the prophecy of Psalm 2:1-2 to Israel. I equate this interchange to the titles Lord, King and Savior: throughout the Old Testament they were mostly applied to Yahweh and in the New Testament they are applied to both the Father and Jesus in equal authority and devotion! God’s marvelous ways are known to us only in limited measures as when Jesus, in Matthew 22:41-45, divested the Pharisees of all wisdom, fulfilling 1 Corinthians 1:19-20, while simultaneously revealing that He is God! (There are those who will attempt to dispute this passage with some futile (LORD vs. Lord) rhetoric. Why did God chose to reveal Himself in such fashion? We may have the answer at the appointed time, as Paul said: 1 Corinthians 13:12. God Bless! |

1311 | What is God saying in this verse? | Gen 3:15 | JCrichton | 107796
You hit the nail on the head! Let us worship the Lord! There are many things that people believe that are straight forward in the Bible, others that are so clear people run with them polluting its Truth; but it is not about knowing things; it is about knowing Christ! The Holy Spirit, as the third Person of God, is here (in the world) to provide answers for us and to guide us: John 14:15-17; 16:7-11. Recognizing that you need help learning about the Scriptures is a mayor step to understanding them; you are humbling yourself to the Lord who has already given you an answer: Matthew 7:7; James 1:5. And Paul amplifies this: 1 Corinthians 2:6-16. God Bless! |

1312 | The Source | Acts 10:20 | JCrichton | 107702
Just got wipped out! Netzero sucks! Will have to get back to you tomorrow--I don't have the energy to retate (short version: Acts 13, Acts 5; Yes, it is stated that it is the Holy Spirit; other circumstance Hebrews 3:7-11 compared to Psalm 95; and Paul revealing Christ as the rock that followed the Hebrew people and provided them with water...) God Bless! |
||||||
1313 | The Source | Acts 10:20 | JCrichton | 107701
Exactly! The writings reflect what the Holy Spirit, Jesus and the Father are doing! Once commanded to do something, as in Acts 13:2-3, the Apostles would send or order something to be done, having the Source being God (most likely the Holy Spirit--He is the active force in the Church as Christ did not leave detailed organizational charts and commands! Another example is Acts 5:1-11; it is not Peter who wills death on Ananias and Sapphira--his words are a revelation of the Holy Spirit, Who, through Peter, reveals Himself as God! Look at Acts 16:6-10: from an outsider's view point, the Apostles were following a haphazard mode of travel, preaching at a whym here or there. But the Holy Spirit is very actively involved in the daily matters of the Church. |

1314 | Lord? | Acts 10:14 | JCrichton | 107698
Though both references are "Lord" Acts 10:4 suggests that it is to the Person of the Holy Spirit, who was manifesting Himself at the time that He was building the Church, through the believers. While Peter, an Apostle of Christ, had a direct history with Jesus, who continued to communicate with the Apostles ("I will be with you always, till the end of time..."). I hope this is helpful! God Bless! |

1315 | Who is the angel? | Acts 10:4 | JCrichton | 107696
Hi, Thomas8! Many times in the Old Testament we will find the references: Angel of the Lord The Angel of the Lord An Angel of the Lord If we pay attention to the single verse we could read a wrong interpretation. But when taken in context with the complete passage we can see the true meaning. Look at verse 2: "He and the whole of his household were devout and God-fearing, and he gave generously to Jewish causes and prayed constantly to God." Could it not be that, though a Roman captain, God's spirit had enlighten him? And as you pointed out: the angel had no problem with his address (Lord). When compared to other encounters we witness an immediate correction and redirection: "...I knelt at the feet of the angel who had shown them to me, to worship him; but he said, 'Do no such thing: I am your fellow-servant and the fellow-servant of your brohers the prophets and those who keep the message of this book. God alone you must worship.'" God reveals Himself to us in various ways in the Bible; if we open our hearts and mind to the Holy Spirit we'll receive the fullness of grace and knowledge! God Bless! |

1317 | What is God saying in this verse? | Gen 3:15 | JCrichton | 107693
Hi, Hallie! I find this Biblical verse the most impacting prophecy about the spiritual battle that has begun! There are many who would want to interpret mankind as the seed; thus giving us dominion over Satan--are we God? Revelation 12:1-17 is the expanded version of Genesis 3:15. Read both Bible passages and compare them: the ancient serpent cannot be defeated but by Christ! The attact on our Lord's lower exremity is a typification of Satan's attack on the temporal Church: "Then the dragon was enraged with the woman and went away to make war on the rest of her children, who obey God's commandments and have in themselves the witness of Jesus." (Revelation 12:17) As Christians, we represent Christ; but we can never be His substitutes. God Bless! |

1319 | Do we have to sin? | James 3:2 | JCrichton | 107689
Hi, Ruthiew! Our call is to be perfect as the Father is Perfect. But as John points it out: 1 John 1:8; God has already stated that there is no one just, not a single one. Was God wrong? Just because the Holy Spirit has been given to us we are not automatically incapable of sinning. We are living in the Light, but we ourselves are not the Light: (1 John 1:5-7). Jesus put it simpler: I am the vine, you are the branches... so if we stick with Jesus, even though we ourselves are not clean, we can be cleansed. Am I claiming a right to sin?, certainly not!: Romans 6:1-14. But I am attesting to God's Word, that since we are in the flesh, and we are not God, we will be tempted and we will sin. The difference between a Christian and an unbeliever commiting a sin is that the Christian (those in fellowship with the Light) seek to repent and become right with God, through Christ while struggling not to sin; the unbeliever, having no one above him/her to answer to, relishes in both the act (sin) and the disobedience (rejection of all commandment). Paul explains this battle of the will (spirit vs. flesh) in Romans 7:14-25. And he augments our capacity not to sin with the following provisions: Ephisians 6:10-18. Remember, "There is nothing I cannot do in the One who stengthens me." (Philippians 4:13) So, when are we able not to sin? When we are in Jesus! When do we sin? When we succumb to the flesh. God Bless! |
