121 | looking for specific scriptures that tel | NT general Archive 1 | Sir Pent | 117196
Personal note....................................................... Hello Anistet, I was impressed with your answer regarding the Sabboth that you posted today. It was very biblically based, and reasonable. I would also agree with you in your last post that you have the right to post your e-mail address as do others. However, I would agree with Colin's concern that you could use email to mislead someone towards the Jehovah's Witness group, which is considered to be a cult by almost all Christians (including those on this forum). I would suggest that along the lines of "truth in advertising", you give some information about yourself in your user profile, including the fact that you are a Jehovah's Witness. This would enable anyone to click on your name and see where you are coming from. Otherwise, it is likely that people like Colin will continue to attack your posts so that visitors to the forum will have this information. |

122 | What do we believe? | Jude 1:3 | Sir Pent | 117192

Please type in the number 18160 into the "Quick Search" box at the top right corner of the screen for part 1 of my answer. Part 2 of my answer is post number 18161. |

123 | Heaven and the Old Testament | Luke 16:19 | Sir Pent | 117190
Afterlife breakdown................................................. EdB (and anyone else interested), I think that I mainly agree with your view of the afterlife, but would appreciate your thoughts on the few differences. We both seem to believe that there have been 4 different places that people have gone or will go after death. They are Paradise (or Sheol or Abraham's Bosom), Hades, Heaven, and Hell (or Gehenna). We both believe that all the people before Christ's death went to either Paradise or Hades (kind of a good and bad waiting room for the judgement). We both believe that at the judgement, whoever is still in Hades go eternally to Hell, and the believers will go eternally to Heaven. Where we seem to disagree is that you believe that Paradise closed when Christ preached there, and that now all believers go straight to Heaven (skipping Paradise), while unbelievers still have to wait in Hades. I believe that instead, all people still go to both Paradise (if believers) and Hades (if unbelievers), until the judgement. Do you have scripture that supports your idea that Paradise is closed, or refuting my idea that they still both exist? |

124 | Adultery is Sex Before Marriage? | Bible general Archive 2 | Sir Pent | 117185
Refferal to another thread....................................... I agree with Lovelyladycpb that the act of sex goes beyond the physical and actually unites two people as one in the eyes of God. However, I disagree with her implication that it is therefore fine and dandy for unmarried people to have sex. Please type in the number 114024 into the "Quick Search" box at the top right corner of the screen. This will take you to a post of mine giving more detail and a good discussion on the matter by many forum members. |

125 | explain Leviticus chapter 1 | Lev 1:3 | Sir Pent | 117163
My answer............................................................ Welcome to the forum Phillips, In the Old Testament, the people of Israel would sacrifice animals to God. The first chapter of Leviticus is simply instructions on how to do some of those ceremonies. In the New Testament and today, we no longer sacrifice animals, because Jesus allowed Himself to be our sacrifice, once for all time. Because of Jesus sacrifice, we can all be made acceptable to the Lord and have a good relationship with Him. |

126 | Threatens to leave if believer attends | 1 Cor 7:15 | Sir Pent | 117161
More information necessary.......................................... Hello Huron, There are a lot of possibilities in the situation you described that would lead to different answers. For instance, when you say "someone" threatens to leave, do you mean a spouse? I find it unusual that a person who is married to someone and loves them would leave just because they went to a church service for an hour once a week. Even if the spouse is not a believer, then it would only seem like a waste of time to them. But perhaps you live in another country where going to church is illegal. Perhaps if you are caught then your family will be killed. Therefore, the spouse might make this threat due to their own life being endangered by something they don't believe. As you can see, more information is neccessary before giving any kind of good advice. And as Hank always says, the best place to find advice is not on this forum, but from a local pastor or trusted friend and counselor. |

127 | Salvation a mystery in OT | Rev 1:1 | Sir Pent | 117158
Personal Note....................................................... Hello again Kalos, Another excellent post my friend. I think that I'll add this to my list of posts that I refer people to. It is the best I've seen so far at summarizing a salvation message purely from the Old Testament. |

129 | "That's just your interpretation."(?) | 2 Tim 2:15 | Sir Pent | 117064
Don't go too far................................................... Hi everybody, I completely agree with many statements that have been made so far in this thread. 1. You can't interpret a verse to mean anything you want. Words have meaning. 2. God gives the whole Bible to everyone, not just one verse to one person. 3. It is important to put time and effort into studying the Bible. 4. The Bible really says something, regardless of our feelings about what it says. These are all true. However, it is important to not take some of them to the extreme. It is because I begin to see that happening that I am now joining in the discussion. For instance, although God gives the whole Bible to everyone, He also does sometimes direct a specific person's attention to a specific passage. Perhaps through your own reading, or a sermon that you hear, or even this forum, God can point out a certain verse that has particular importance to your life at that moment. In that sense it is OK for someone to say "God gave me this verse today." Another example is this post by JRM. That post proposes that to truly understand scripture, one must first understand the ancient Jewish culture. This is going to the extreme and is incorrect. Please type in the number 15780 into the "Quick Search" box at the top right corner of the screen for more information. That thread discussed how the Bible has been inspired by God and maintained even through translations and copies so that anyone can understand and trust it still today. |

130 | What evangelist ran to meet an official | Acts 8:26 | Sir Pent | 117005
Personal Note....................................................... Hello again JaniceTillman, Thanks for explaining your purpose. We have had people come in the past who attempt to use this forum to ace their tests for them. Naturally, we do not wish to assist in cheating, and so must be cautious. However, it sounds like you have a great activity there of searching the scriptures with your daughter. That is a great way to spend time together and learn about God at the same time. Some of the questions in the quiz book seem to be about relatively unknown trivia in scripture though. It makes me curious what age level the book is designed for. It's good to have you here at the forum, and I look forward to your continued participation :) |

131 | What evangelist ran to meet an official | Acts 8:26 | Sir Pent | 116992
Answer and a question................................................ Welcome to the forum JaniceTillman, The answer to your question is Philip, and the story can be found in Acts 8:26-40. I also have a question for you. You have posted 7 times to the forum, and they have all been questions. None of them seem to be related. Why are you asking these questions? It gives the appearance that you have a list of questions (ie. a test for a Bible class), and are just using this forum to save you the effort of searching. Do I guess correctly? |

132 | Bible verses on marriage in Heaven. | Matt 22:30 | Sir Pent | 116969
My answer.......................................................... Welcome to the forum Bunnydale, Jesus says that there is no marriage in heaven in 3 of the gospels. Read the verses around Matt 22:30, Mark 12:25, and Luke 20:35. |

133 | How Do You Stay on Track? | Ps 23:3 | Sir Pent | 116967
Personal Note........................................................ Hi Hank, There are many verses that give me a great deal of comfort and assurance of God's providence. My favorite is Romans 8:28 "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." A second is Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." A third is 1 Corinthians 10:13 "...God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it." A fourth is Philippians 1:6 "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." A final one is Genesis 50:20 "As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive." |

Personal Note........................................................ Hi Angst33, I'm glad that I was able to help :) I agree with you that God has a great sense of humor (just look at the duck-billed platypus). I will pray for you as you allow God to work in this area of your life. |

135 | is there security of the believer | Rom 8:39 | Sir Pent | 116964

136 | pornography....... | 2 Tim 2:22 | Sir Pent | 116914
Wise quote from another............................................. Hello Angst33, A wise person once said on this forum "Smoking is just another way that we fill a need for ourselves. This is idolatry - we become the source (through whatever means) of fufilling our needs. That is exactly what god wants to do." I would say that the same thing is true of pornography. It is a substitute to fill a need in your life. I would think that the best way to stop using it is to allow God to meet your needs so that there is no reason to look at it anymore. I would also recommend that you join a small group at your church and ask them to help keep you accountable by asking you on a weekly basis how you are doing in that area of your life. P.S. For those of you who wonder who the wise person I quoted was, it was none other than Angst33, themself :) |

137 | Did you follow my referral? | Rom 1:27 | Sir Pent | 116911
Did you follow my referral?........................................ Good to see you're still around Ptgard05, In my post that you responded to I recommended that you type in the number 15780 into the "Quick Search" box at the top right corner of the screen. It appears that you have not done that, since you didn't respond to any of the ideas in that thread. I really think that you would benefit from doing the search to find that thread and then reading all of the posts that are there. It was a great discussion about whether we can trust the Bible that we have on our bookshelves today to still contain God's words and not just man's words. I think that if you consider what is contained in that thread, it may help you to regain some confidence that you seem to be lacking in the scriptures and your understanding of them without knowing the original languages, etc. Would you be willing to read what is there? |

138 | read last statement | Rom 1:27 | Sir Pent | 116910
My response to your question...................................... Good to see you are still here Ptgard05, I have participated in autopsies at times during my career, and there was one time where I saw a man who had died of natural causes at an old age (somewhere in the 70's). The amazing thing was that when we looked inside he only had one lung. He had been relatively healthy all his life, and never reported any problems breathing. He had never had any surgeries to remove anything. It just so happened that he was born with one lung. It did develop to be larger than normal and pushed his heart to the side, but other than that there was nothing wrong. What I learned from people who were more experienced than I, was that this type of thing was not really uncommon. There are many people walking around with no idea that they are missing an organ, or their organs are reversed (ie. appendix on the left). It turns out that the pictures that you see in your science book are just what things look like in the majority of people. Therefore, even assuming that it is true that your relative has something different about the bones in his ear, that does not prove anything about his homosexuality. There are no publications in respected scientific journals that support any connection between ear bone configuration and homosexuality. |

139 | Do people's claims cause you to question | Rom 1:27 | Sir Pent | 116908
My response to your question...................................... Good to see you are still here Ptgard05, You asked how many adulterers claim to be born that way. I would answer that there are a large number, although they don't phrase it that way. There are probably more people committing adultery who claim that they can't help themselves than there are people who practice homosexuality that claim that they can't help themselves. The point is that there are always going to be people who claim that they can't help doing something that the Bible says is sin. Does this cause you to believe that the Bible doesn't mean what it says? |
