201 | Why did God wait to send the Holy Spirit | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113861
I need more information.......................................... Hi Makarios, I'm a bit confused by your last post. You seem to be saying that the Holy Spirit's role has been expanded because He now fills ALL true Christians. So have His methods changed, or is He still doing the same things, just with more people? |

202 | Why did God wait to send the Holy Spirit | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113860
Looking for more information................................. Hi Jcsav, So you are agreeing with almost everyone that the Holy Spirit operates in people's lives differently in the Old Testament than it does now. My first question for you is "Why?" You said that in the Old Testament the Holy Spirit moved in people's lives to enable them to perform a service or accomplish God's plan. Doesn't the Holy Spirit still work in our lives to enable us to serve God and accomplish His plan? Your second point was that the Holy Spirit could not operate in His present method until Jesus's death on the cross. My two questions there would be "Why" and "Why so long"? Firstly, why did Jesus have to die for the Holy Spirit to operate in this expanded way? Secondly, if Jesus had to die first, then why wait so long to send Jesus? |

203 | Mary Magdalene and the seven demons | Luke 8:2 | Sir Pent | 113856
Scripture Referrance............................... Hi Docl333, Here's the Bible verse that talks about this subject. We do know that Mary Magdalene had 7 demons come out of her. We do not know if they were the seven deadly sins. |

205 | women can wear makeup (where found) | 1 Pet 3:3 | Sir Pent | 113800
My answer...................................... Hi Nissiangle, As I stated in my previous answer to you, this verse shows that God is not as interested in the outward appearance as He is in the inward attitude of the heart. |

206 | where in the bible is woman/ makeup foun | 1 Tim 2:9 | Sir Pent | 113789
My answer..................................................... Hi Nissiangle, There are not a lot of places in the Bible that specifically talk about make-up. However, it is generally true that women of ill-repute wore make-up. One example is the evil queen Jezebel in 2 Kings 9:30. Another example is the allegory of the people of Israel who are being wicked in Jeremiah 4:30 and Ezekial 23:40. Here God is making an analogy about His chosen people going after something other than God, just as a prostitute goes after someone other than their husband. So these would be examples in scripture that speak about make-up. However, I think that if you look at the Bible as a whole, God does not say that it is wrong to wear make-up. But rather it is wrong to put anything before God. God also wants us to focus not on the outward things but on the inward attitudes of our heart. Check out 1 Peter 3:3-4. |

207 | I need help in regaining my faith in God | NT general Archive 1 | Sir Pent | 113785
My answer....................................................... Hi Uncle Dave, I am also one who walked away from God for a time, and I am very thankful that God was patient and merciful and allowed me to come back to Him. I would agree with CDBJ as to the importance of spending time in God's Word. The Bible is God's love letter written to you. It contains His message for your life. I would also recommend that you begin to meet regularly with other Christians. Try to find a healthy church where you can grow and also where you can get involved. |

209 | Why did God wait to send the Holy Spirit | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113771
Wow, what a list............................................. Hi Makarios, I don't think I've ever seen so complete a list of places where the Holy Spirit was active in the Old Testament. Thanks for that excellent post. To focus on the original question, you seem to be saying that God didn't wait at all to send the Holy Spirit, but rather that He was there from the beginning. Do I understand you correctly that you believe that the Holy Spirit was available to people throughout time in the same way that He is to us today. I only ask because some of the other answers I have recieved seem to think that there is a difference in the way the Holy Spirit was available in the OT and how He is available now. But you brought up good scriptural references for the Holy Spirit "filling" and "indwelling" people even in the Old Testament. So perhaps the answer to "Why did God wait" is that "He didn't". |

210 | Why did God wait to send the Holy Spirit | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113769
I need clarification......................................... Hi Ray, You seem to be saying something similar to Mommapbs. You are saying there is a difference in how the Holy Spirit was on the people in the Old Testament (coming upon) and how the Holy Spirit is in us now (indwelling). I would ask you a couple of questions. Why would the Holy Spirit come differently to the people in the Old Testament than He does to us? Why would God wait so long to send the Holy Spirit in the "indwelling" sense. |

211 | Can anyone else answer this question? | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113768
Agree, but not the answer......................................... Hi BradK, You seem to be saying the same thing that Johnny said. I agree that God sent the Spirit in His own time, which was the fullness of time. But why was that point so late in humanities history. |

212 | Can anyone else answer this question? | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113767
I need clarification...................................... Hi Mommapbs, If I understand your answer, you are saying that the Holy Spirit can only dwell in people who are truly clean in the eyes of God. You seem to be saying that the people in the Old Testament who believed were not truly clean, and thus could not have the Holy Spirit in the way we can. Therefore, your answer is that the Holy Spirit couldn't come in fullness until after Jesus had been sacrificed to make us clean. This brings up 2 questions. The first is how could the Holy Spirit come on the prophets if they weren't clean? The second is if the Holy Spirit couldn't come until after Jesus, then why wait so long to send Jesus? |

213 | Can anyone else answer this question? | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113765
Agree, but not the answer.................................. Hi Johnny, I agree with you that God timing is perfect. My question is why was the "perfect" time so long after the world began. I also agree with you that God is not confined to our time. However, we are stuck in our time, so although waiting may not seem long to God, it sure does to us. Thanks again for trying to answer and for reminding us about the all mighty nature of God. |

214 | Premarital sex is a sin? | Heb 13:4 | Sir Pent | 113764
Personal Note............................................... Hi Monkman, Thanks for the update on your situation. I also greatly appreciate your ability to accept reproof and cousel. Prov 11:14 says, "Where there is no guidance the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory." I hope that you will continue to find victory as you grow with your home church and with your brothers and sisters in Christ on this forum. |

215 | a friend passed away. | 2 Cor 1:4 | Sir Pent | 113412
My answer............................................. Hello Gianna, I apologise for taking so long to respond, but I had a hard time thinking of a good answer to your question. Based on the additional information that you gave I would point you towards Luke 23:43. It says, "And He (Jesus) said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise." This is something that Jesus tells to a man who is dying right next to him when Jesus is on the cross. This man next to him was actually a thief throughout his life and was being executed for it. However, at the very end of his life, this thief decided to believe in Jesus and worship Him. This shows that Jesus was willing to welcome into paradise a man who spent his life as a thief and turned around at the very end. How much more would he welcome your boss (who according to you was a great person) if your boss decided to believe in Jesus at the very end. I hope that encourages you to have hope for your boss, and also to examine your own life to see whether Jesus is still waiting for you to believe in Him so that you can join all the people in Heaven someday :) |

Referral to another thread.................................... Hello Adrianzola, You have asked a very good question, and are not alone in wondering what the answer is. In fact someone asked this a while back. I would suggest that you type the number 21448 into the "Quick Search" box at the top right corner of the screen and read the answer that I and other people gave. |

Referral to another thread..................................... Hello Arrow1, I don't want to get into the whole baptism discussion. However, I would like to point out that I do not believe that speaking the original languages makes someone more qualified to understand the Bible. I think that God has preserved the truth of the Bible all the way to our time and our language. For more information on this idea, please type the number 15780 into the "Quick Search" box at the top right of the screen. |

218 | Can anyone else answer this question? | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113356
Can anyone else answer this question? I appreciate that Johnny at least tried, but just saying that God's timing is perfect doesn't really answer the question. Doesn't anyone out there have any thoughts on this issue. Why did God's perfect timing dictate that He wait so long to send the Holy Spirit? |

219 | What was God's plan? | Luke 1:35 | Sir Pent | 113295
My answer............................................ Hello Crystal, Thanks for explaining your question a bit more. I would recommend looking at Romans chapter 5. It talks about how sin entered the world from the first human, Adam bringing death to us all. However, it also says that Jesus Christ came to provide justification to us all (Rom 5:18). That was God's plan. And as for when did God come up with that plan. There is a verse that says that God planned it from the beginning. I can't remember what that verse is off the top of my head, but maybe someone else on the forum will know it. |

220 | Why did God wait to send the Holy Spirit | Joel 2:28 | Sir Pent | 113288
Why did God wait so long to send the Holy Spirit? I have been thinking lately about why God waited so long to send the Holy Spirit. Some people believe the Earth to be millions of years old. And even if you believe in a young Earth like myself, the world is at least 6000 years old. Yet God has only sent the Holy Spirit to be in people's lives for the last 2000 years. Before that, there were probably less than 50 people (ie. Old Testament prophets and judges) out of millions of people around to world who had that privilege. Since we know that God wanted to give the Holy Spirit to people. And we know that He could have done it at any time. Why did He wait so long? |
