121 | why is toiauten translated 'other' here | 1 Cor 11:16 | Ray | 149493
Hi Tim, I know that there is no word for 'other' in the Greek for 1 Corinthians 11:16. But you missed my Strong's reference for "as this". If you talk of a practice "such as this" you are inferring a similar or other practice. From the heart, Ray |

123 | Ignoring a Decision to Capitalize | Rev 14:16 | Ray | 149458
Hi Kalos, You have written that "the oldest Greek manuscripts were all upper case." I don't know if that is true or not, but I find it interesting and confusing that the writer finds FAULT with a capitalized "He" when it has been stated that they are all capitalized in the oldest Greek manuscripts. 1) The writer says that we should ignore the interpretive decision made by the translators of the NASB. The writer would then have to find greater fault with the NKJ for they make even greater interpretations for a "Divine Being." Revelations 14:14, NASB, "And I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and sititng on the cloud was one like a son of man, having a golden crown on His head, and a sharp sickle in His hand." Revelation 14:14, NKJ, "Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle." I would go with the NKJ for the verse, capitalizing "One" and the "Son of Man"; for then the capitalization would agree with the capitalized "His head" and "His" hand. 2) Now, the capitalization of "Your" sickle for Revelation 14:15 is another difference in interpretation. The NASB has "your sickle" and the NKJ has "Your sickle". I would go with the NKJ and "Your" sickle. However, we need to look also at the difference in translations and manuscripts used for the latter part of Revelation 14:15. The NU and M texts omit "for You". NKJ, "Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come for You to reap..." and the NASB, "Put in your sickle and reap, because the hour to reap has come, because the harvest of the earth is ripe." 3) I would go with two capitalized pronouns for verse 15; going with "Put in Your sickle" but ommitting the "for (y)You" to reap. Thus, allowing for the angels to be participants in the reaping after the One who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle. From the heart, Ray |

125 | Titus and Romans:comparable introduction | Rom 1:4 | Ray | 149214
Hi justme, It has been just over two years since we talked on this thread. Because I was led back to this thread, perhaps I should explain more of where I was coming from back then. Here is my personal interpretation of Titus 1:1-4 with a total of eighteen nouns and pronouns of Deity. "Paul, a bond-servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of those chosen of God and the full knowledge of His truth which is according to godliness, in the hope of the Eternal Life which God, who cannot lie promised long ages ago, but at the proper time He manifested, even in His word, in the proclamation with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior; to Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior." For Romans 1:1-7 I have twenty-one nouns and pronouns of Deity. I hope this finds you well. Thank you for your interest and encouragement in the past. From the heart, Ray |

127 | Filled with the holy spirit? | Mark 1:10 | Ray | 149195
Hi Angel, I would suppose that you left out a "don't" and meant to say that "I DON'T understand how you would opt to pencil in the text." May I say that I don't have any problem with the Scriptures that say that Christ is in us or that His Spirit indwells us. See Ephesians 3:16,17. But the "fulness of God" is being filled with knowledge and knowing the love of Christ. Grace and truth was given to us and He gives gifts to men. The Spirit fills us with all these things "until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ,..." Ephesians 4:13. Ephesians 5:18, "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the *spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20 always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father;" The Spirit of sanctification: Ephesians 3:25, "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her; 26 that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,..." 1) So I would say that we are washed with the word. Jesus came from God and spoke the words of God. He gave the words (spirit) without measure; John 3:34. We would not be able to contain the Spirit if given to us without measure; but we are given all things and washed with His words. 2) There is a difference between being "indwelt with His Spirit" and being "filled with the spirit". 128 | Filled with the holy spirit? | Mark 1:10 | Ray | 149145
Hi Angel, I have the Holy Spirit capitalized for Acts 5:32 and Acts 5:3. The places where I have a penciled in lower case "holy spirit" is where the references speak of being "filled with the holy spirit"; for I see no compelling reason to see the Person in thoses verses. In Acts 5:3,4 the connection between "lying to the Holy Spirit" and "lying to God" is a compelling reason to think of the Holy Spirit as God. For John 16:13 I do not see the Person of the Truth. I see the "truth" being disclosed. The Spirit of truth guides us into all the truth. The Spirit of truth reminds us of all the things of God and discloses "it" to us. I have no problem with thinking of Jesus as the Truth, and John 16:14 says that the Spirit will glorify Him (the Truth), but what is disclosed is the truth. Romans 1:4 we can discuss at that thread. 129 | Reviled IN the name of Christ? | 1 Pet 4:14 | Ray | 149040
Hi mommapbs, No, for I do not capitalize "whom". Ephesians 4:30, "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of (God), by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." John 3:26, "And they came to John and said to him, 'Rabbi, He who was with you beyond Jordan, to whom you have borne witness, behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to (Him).'" John 12:36, "While you have the Light, believe in the Light, in order that you may become sons of (Light)." Ephesians 1:11, NKJ, "In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of (Him) who works all things..." For Ephesians 1:13, I go with the NASB which translates two "whom" occurances as "Him". Thus I would say that in Him we trusted, believing the gospel, and we were sealed in Him with the holy spirit of promise which is given as a pledge of our inheritance. We view the redemption as adopted sons, being God's own possession. From the heart, Ray |

Hi Angel, I interpret the passage of Acts 8:26-39 differently from you. I do not see the Holy Spirit spoken of in the passage at all. I say that because I view the "angel" of the Lord that spoke to Philip in verse 26 as being a "spirit." Thus for verse 29 and verse 39 I see this spirit speaking to Philip and eventually snatching him away. Philip preached Jesus to the man (from the Scriptures) and he came to believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. There is power in the words of God. Choose another passage that indicates your point and we'll consider that again. From the heart, Ray |

Hi Tim, Thanks for your post and information. In considering "the Holy Spirit who was given to us", I usually think of a gift; (to my mind, holy spirit). However, I would consider the Holy Spirit with you. Irregardless of whether the Holy Spirit "is given" or "was given", and certainly having been given to future believers as well; Christ died for the ungodly; at the right time. John 5:5 connects the Holy Spirit in equation to Christ in verse 6. Any comments on that thought? From the heart, Ray |

Hi mommapbs, We might have to wait and see what scholars say about the Greek, but I think your thought is good; belief without belief that Jesus is God is dead faith. We need to see His glory just as Isaiah did. However, Jesus did not come to glorify Himself alone. If we desire to "emphasize Him", then we lose the unity of God and think of "Jesus Only". Jesus went on in John 12:44 to say that you don't believe in Me but in Him who sent Me (if you believe in Me). Verse 45, "He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me." So, what are we to think, mommapbs? Did He come as light or Light? John 10:33 - John 12:46 1 Peter 4:17, "...what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And if it is with difficulty that the righteous is saved, what will become of the godless man and the sinner?" 133 | why did God have to create light? | Gen 1:3 | Ray | 148889
P.S. The NASB, 1995 copyright reads, John 12:46, "I have come [as] Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness." I am tending to agree with that capitalization interpretation. From the heart, Ray |

Hi starfire, Psalm 139:10, "Even THERE Thy hand will lead me, And Thy right hand will lay hold of me." John 1:9, NASB, 1995, "THERE was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man." The emphasized THERE is mine, but perhaps you would say with me, "There! That One was the true Light." From the heart, Ray |

135 | The gift of God | Mark 1:10 | Ray | 148834
Hi terrib, Since you see the gift of God as being Jesus Himself, you probably would agree with the Green's Literal Translation which reads, "Jesus answered and said to her, If you knew the gift of God, and who is the (One) saying to you, Give Me to drink, you would have asked Him, and He would give you living water." If you see the gift as being Jesus Himself AND the salvation He offered, then Jesus is giving the gift of living water. So living water springs up to eternal life. I see Jesus as saying, "If you had the living water -- if you knew the gift of God -- you would know who He is who is speaking to you." From the heart, Ray P. S. Good night. |

Hi Angel, You did some great work here. I would love to discuss your three points with you at some time down the road if possible. For now let me talk about your last sentence and the Scripture reference. You said that "we can accept the Holy Spirit as both God's Gift and the gift giver." You have chosen not to capitalize "giver" so I surmise that you would NOT say that "we can accept the Holy Spirit as both God's Gift and as the Giver of gifts." Please comment on that. Romans 5:5 is interesting because of the grammar of the Greek. We have in the choices of translation, "was given" as in the NASB or "is given" as in the KJ. Please comment. May I say again for any new reader that I believe in the three Persons of the Holy Trinity. I simply am suggesting the holy spirit as a gift. From the heart, Ray P.S. Good night. |

140 | Reviled IN the name of Christ? | 1 Pet 4:14 | Ray | 148795
Hi Mommapbs, You have encouraged me in my thinking on the passage, for I agree with you that being in the name of Christ would identify the individual as a Christian. 1 Peter 4:16, "but if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not feel ashamed, but in that name let him glorify **God." James 4:4, "You adulteress, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward **God?" It is time for us all to live up to the name that we go by--Christians. Or as 1 Peter 4:17 says, "For it is time for judgment to begin with [Lit. from] the household of God;..." So my question as a counter of pronouns of Deity is, "How do we interpret this word "Christian" and "Do I include the last part of verse 14 in my personal copy?" From the heart, Ray |
