121 | Son of mean, what does it mean | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 29677
Dear Towanda, I believe that when Jesus calls Himself the Son of Man, it is a matter of perspective. For instance, when we think of Jesus, what makes Him unique or different than the rest of us, is that He is the Son of God. To Jesus, what makes him different in the Godhead [the Persons of the Trinity of God] is that He is the only Person in the Godhead that is also human. Itiswritten |

122 | What does Son of Man mean? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 29676
Dear Wkey, I believe Jesus is fully God, AND Jesus is fully man. I believe the writers of the Bible capitalize the word "Man" because of who they are talking about. I doubt there is any such thing in the original languages. I also believe when Jesus calls Himself the "Son of Man" he, being God, is speaking from HIS perspective: To us, what makes Him different than us is that He is the Son of God. To Him, what makes Him different in the Godhead, is that He is the only Person [in the Trinity of the Godhead] that is truly MAN. |

123 | Is Depression of the devil? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 29673
Dear Kdblessed00, I believe depression can come from several things. [1] The Devil can cause it through oppression. [2] There can be a medical imbalance which causes it. [3] Another cause is wrong thinking caused by our original sin nature. I believe all three can be healed by God. Meanwhile, if there is a medical technical reason involved, I would continue that medical care until the Lord removes the problem. In any of the above cases, I believe that the Word of God is VERY beneficial. When we are saved, our spirit is reborn and the Holy Spirit joins with our Spirit making us a new creature. But WE have to walk in that new life. That may occur automatically in many areas, but we tend to drag a lot of that "old man" with us. Through reading the Word of God and applying it to our lives, we become enlightened as to many things in our way of living that may not any longer be beneficial or proper according to the ways of the Lord. Being in the Word and applying it will bring us more in line with the ways of the Lord and will bring about the changes in our thinking that are healthy and true. Romans 12: 1-2 "...I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God - this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will." And Ephesians 4: 17-32 "So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivitym they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more. You, however, did not come to know Christ that way. Surely you heard of hima nd were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to PUT OFF YOUR OLD SELF, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to PUT ON THE NEW SELF, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful in building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." I truly hope this will be of some help for you. Itiswritten |

125 | New to the Word | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 29554
Dear Awitnesstohiswork, First, get yourself a good study Bible in simple easy to read English translation, that has lots of comments and archaeological notes. They give you lots of information about the times and settings of the particular writings you are reading and it helps you to understand the context. I recommend you read the Gospel of John first, then probably the other Gospels for starters. It would be good if you could get yourself into a good Bible Study. If I were you I would just ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten me before each study you do, and He will guide you along. Itiswritten |

126 | woman saved in child bearing | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 29548
Dear Lovutoo, I don't believe not bearing children will take away from your salvation. Being a mother, I have found that the experience brings about a profound change in a woman's perspective. It is something that is nearly impossible to convey. You suddenly have this little human being, totally dependent on you, that is part of you. Where you may not have believed you were selfish, you must become totally selfless, everyday for probably 20 years, where you believed you had matured, you grow up in leaps and bounds...it is stressful but wonderful at the same time. It forces maturity that you may not have accomplished before, or, in my case anyway, it would have taken be many more years to accomplish. And you deal with personalities, with each and every child, that you may not have dealt with on the outside. All the while, you want to, where you might have procrastinated, because children grow and need and the time passes too quickly and they are grown. And so, in light of this, I believe it just matures you faster than you would without such a responsibility. Remember also, in the days in which it was written, women did not have professions to be involved with, nor education such as a man might have received. There was nothing else to do to develop her personality. Itiswritten |

127 | How be born of water and of the Spirit? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 15419
Dear Ricardo, I will try to answer your questions one at a time, as best I can: [1] Now this is a little tricky, so bear with me. I am going to give you a Scripture which is spoken about a man on earth, but it is also a message telling about what happened to the devil whose first name was Lucifer [which means "star of the morning"], which is what he was before he sinned. The Scripture is in Isaiah 14:12-14 "How you have fallen from heaven, O [Lucifer] morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of the assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will make myself like the Most High." I was taught this was not only about an earthly king, but also the story of Satan's fall. Jesus also, when He was talking to His disciples, said: Luke 10:18- "...I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven." As far as I know, we are not told when exactly that was. But he lives on this earth. He was here to tempt Eve in the garden. He goes before the throne to accuse us to God, but Jesus intervenes on our behalf if we are His. And that's all I can say about him. [2] In the gospel's those who were baptized by John the Baptist had repented of their sins and had decided to turn back to God. This babtism was to prepare them for the coming of Jesus. When Jesus began His earthly ministry, his disciples baptized those who came and had decided to walk with God as Jesus was teaching them. After Jesus went to be with the Father, Christians were still baptized who wanted to turn from their sins and walk with God. Because of this the water baptism to me means putting the old life behind, and walking in new life with God. The Scripture I have for this is Romans 6:4- "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that, like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." This means to me that when we go under the water, it is like Jesus' death and burial, when we come up out of the water, it is like we are resurrected into a new life. It is the outward ritual by which we realize what is happening when we decide to walk with God and as a witness to others that we have made that committment. To be baptized in the Spirit is something else. Anyone who is born of God is commanded to be baptized in water for the reasons I have said above. Only Jesus baptizes us in the Spirit...that is, the Holy Spirit. The first time this happened was when the disciples were baptized with what looked like to others, tongues of fire over their heads [Acts 1 and 2] All those born of God have the Holy Spirit within them. To be Baptized in the Holy Spirit means the Holy Spirit in you enlarges to such a degree that He overflows from that one in blessing to others in the church of God. This may be in the gifts of the Holy Spirit which are listed in 1 Corinthians 12:2-14. [3]When we are born again, the Holy Spirit dwells in our Spirit and we are saved and will be with God when we leave this earth. Our body is not yet redeemed, however. This body must die...unless we are still living when Jesus returns, then it will be changed into our resurrected body immediately. But it is the body, our flesh, which causes us to be tempted by lusts and desires against the will of God. Romans 7:5-24 and 1 Cor. 15: 51-52. [4] God received the blood on the altar from these animals during the days of the Old Covenant or Old Testament, under the Mosaic Law and even before, until the day when Jesus the Christ would come and be the perfect substitute. Leviticus gives us much of the descriptions of these things. I hope this is of some help to you. Itiswritten |

129 | Question about the Bible! | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 29393
Dear PrincessSnicker6, The Old Testament tells us of the circumstances of the Creation and gives us the Covenant of Law that God gave us through His servant, Moses. It was the forerunner of better things to come...when God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to bring us a better, more perfect covenant. The New Testament unveils the mysteries of the Old Testament, which only make sense in light of Jesus, the Christ. The church is not a building. The church is the people of God as a body. We hold meetings and ceremonies in buildings that we call "church" but God's people are the church. I hope this sheds some light on your question. |

130 | What is the gospel? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 29390
Dear There, I believe the gospel is simply this: The word means "good news" and the Good News from God is that man was doomed to destruction from the fall. God Himself one day sent His Only Begotten Son to become one of us, live with us, walk with us, and die for us. That day has come, He rose from the dead having paid the price for our sin and whoever believes in Him does not have to perish but have everlasting life with God. This is the GOSPEL or Good News, from God. All that is explained in the Old Testament and the New is about this central truth and precious news. I hope this is of some help to you- Itiswritten. |

131 | Was Jesus ONLY son or daughter of Mary? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 29388
Dear JMR, Jesus, according to Scripture had about 4 half-brothers and two sisters: Matthew 13:55-56; Matthew 27:56 [after Mary Magdalene, you have the woman Mary, mother of James and Joses who were in other verses mentioned as Jesus' half-brothers...though they thought they were full brothers] Mark 6:3; Mark 15:40,47; Mark 16:1 and Galatians 1:19 where we find that James who headed the church in Jerusalem, who was the first martyr, was Jesus' half-brother...Mary and Joseph's son...which was known to the apostles and all the early disciples. I hope this is of some help to you. Itiswritten |

132 | Who is the Alpha and the Omega? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 29383
Dear John Hermes, "God is one," is a very favorite saying of the Jews to this day. They have been cured of idolatry. However, Christians know God is plural in the sense of the Trinity; and the Trinity is together in all that He does. For instance the Father is the Creator, the Holy Spirit hovered over the creation and is part of that Creation and the Son is the Word God said in producing that Creation [see John 1: 1-3 and 14]. So, in just the same way both the Father and the Son are the Alpha and the Omega. Itiswritten |

133 | Is it God, Ourselves or Satan? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 29382
Dear Searcher56, There are a few Scriptures that can help you with this question. [1] Hebrews 4:12 "The word of God is quick, and powerful and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and IS a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." [2] Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." and [3] Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to HIS purpose." To me, these three work like this. We need to study and meditate on the Word of God. The more we know of it, the better we can discern where our influences are coming from whether it be ourselves, Satan or the Lord. The Lord knows each and every one of His children and He knows if we are living up to the knowledge we have as yet been able to absorb. He also knows if we are faithful in that which we know. He knows our intentions and our omissions. Until we are better in our understanding of the word, if we acknowledge Him in everything...all our accomplishments even down to a nearby parking space, He will direct our paths. [We must include the seemingly little everyday things if we hope to trust Him in the big ones which only come once in awhile.] Meanwhile, when we make mistakes, He has that covered in the third, where even our mistakes "he works together for our good," so we need not fear but go ahead and trust Him in everything. I hope this is helpful to you. There are many more, but I believe this is a very good start. Itiswritten |

Dear Norrie, I do not know of any particular statement in the Bible that says weapons may be used. However, it was never condemned in a war situation. Abraham brought in an army of his servants to rescue Lot and the king of Sodom and all who were with them, when they were taken captive by opposing kings [Gen. 14]; all through the book of Joshua; on and off all through the Book of Judges; Moses, whereby God told Joshua and Caleb to hold Moses' arms up during the battle (which was not waged with fists alone); and in the Gospels, nothing was ever said against being in the profession of a centurion. I hope this is helpful to you - Itiswritten |

136 | What are virtues of Abraham? | Genesis | itiswritten | 29310
Dear Curran, I respectfully disagree with reformerJoe, that being a "Patriarch" was not bestowed on Abraham. He was unable to have a single heir if God had not given him one; and that one was given only one, and that one was given two and then we have the twelve and one sister. God did that. I believe God did this for Abraham because of his incredible faith in God despite the fact that he was raised by Terah who was an idol worshipper- despite the fact that he and his wife were well past the age to have an heir when God said He would give him one and well past the age when God tested him and told him to destroy that precious miracle of a child. If Abraham would not withhold his only son from God, God would certainly not withhold His Only Son from mankind through the lineage of such a man of faith as Abraham. |

137 | Why did God permit Abram to lie? | Genesis | itiswritten | 29308
God permits us to do a lot of things we should not do. That does not mean He approves. He made us with a free will and we are imperfect, so we sin. Whenever Abram or any of the saints of old did wrong things, they suffered the consequences and still the Lord delivered them. I'm sorry but I can't find the chapter and verse tonight, but the Scripture says "Many are the trials of the righteous, but the Lord delivers us out of them all." Abraham was not perfect. However, a person does not have to be perfect to be considered righteous in God's eyes, because it also says that "Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. No man is perfect and no man never sins or does wrong or always does things perfectly. However Abraham believed God and God took care of His friend. |

138 | Shamayim - why heavens, not two heavens | Gen 1:1 | itiswritten | 29248
Dear Short, I am not a Hebrew buff, but, in case you are interested, there is a Scripture ... In 2 Corinthians 12:2-4, where Paul speaks about the third heaven. I don't know if there are levels of heaven or different heavens or parts of heaven but it is best to stick to Scripture and not speculation, so, here goes: "I knew a man in Christ, above 14 years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one was caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter." I don't know if this is of any help but I just thought you might like to look at this scripture and pray about it. The Lord may give you some better understanding if you read this and the verses around it. -itiswritten |

139 | Was Abraham a Muslim? | Bible general Archive 1 | itiswritten | 29154
A Muslim is a person of the religion of Islam. Islam did not exist at the time of Abraham. This religion did not come into existence until the early Middle Ages of Europe. In the late 600s or early 700s A.D.,Islam was begun by a man named Mohammed who claimed to be a prophet and founded this religion partly because he saw the practice of using icons and statues in the churches as idol worship. His religion departed from the Bible altogether and uses the Qoran [pardon me if I have spelled it wrong]and he believed in converting the rest of the world to "his religion" by the sword...that the infidels [in his opinion] should convert or die. His religion does not include Jesus as the Son of the Living God but as merely a prophet and teaches that he is a later prophet with a more clear understanding than Jesus had. It does not acknowledge the crucifixion or the value of it nor does it acknowledge the resurrection. It holds many other teachings that I do not know as I have not studied the religion. However, the Muslims at that time threatened all of Christian Europe in the early 700s. Charles Martel defeated the Muslims when they came up from North Africa and attacked Spain. Then the Muslims began making raids across the Pyrenees Mountains. By 732 Charles Martel met them near Tours, deep inside the Frankish kingdom and he inflicted heavy losses on them. They retreated toward Spain and never again were a major threat to Europe. I have taken this information from the 2nd Edition of "Church History in Plain Language" by Bruce L. Shelley, published by Word. I believe Abraham was Sumerian, the son of Terah who was an idol worshipper. Somehow or another he came to believe in the one true God and never wavered in that belief to the degree that he did not live a perfect life, but he "believed God" and acted as though he believed Him. In other words, he didn't say one thing, but make his decisions as though he believed something else. I hope this is of some help to you. |

140 | The table of nations from Noah's sons | Acts 17:26 | itiswritten | 29149
Thank you Nolan Keck. I am looking for something like a chart. I used to have a book on linguistics and the study of Hebrew that had some pie-charts showing, according to languages and ancient names, how the ancient names related to modern nations. I cannot find the book and I thought it would be great as an illustration for Bible Study when we cover Genesis 10-11 and the Tower of Babel. I know it gets very complicated but it helps in getting a little understanding of the real division of the races according to Noah's three sons and where their families migrated after the Tower of Babel incident.
