1081 | Who is NOT saved? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1522
Peace upon you, O 'king of Salem (Peace)' This Forum is going to give you a heart attack if you are not careful of your temper. You are correct, I did get off the subject. I was commenting on 'automatic' salavation-by-kinship or marriage, which was connected to your comments on I Corinthians 7. For this slip, I humbly apologize. I do hope that the debate was not too negated. I will be more careful not to push the Logos on to unwilling others, and seek the Spirit of life. I often find myself on my knees asking God for mercy. I am happy for your heaps of love and mercy. Blessings upon you in Jesus' name.
1082 | Define "Pope." | 1 Pet 2:9 | charis | 1521
Dear friend, Instead I'll define Peter: A simple fisherman, probably wearing fairly simple clothes, surrounded by fairly simple people who had thrown away their 'tradition' to follow a simple Man. Peter was married. He was a servant first, and exhorted those around him (and us, too!) to be examples to the flock, never 'lording over' them. Peter never spoke a word concerning his righteousness, and never hinted that he was a priest between God and man. Please compare Peter with the definition provided by PNLamb. Blessings in Christ Jesus. |

1083 | How about common sense? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1519
Dear Friend, I appreciate your doggedness regarding this issue, and admire and respect your faith. I have read your many contributions and am impressed by your knowledge. You are correct, common sense can be holy and heathen. However, Prudence and 'evident' wisdom ARE from the Bible. The problem remains that, as another saint pointed out, the Bible is silent about contraception. Your 'generalities' may make sense where you are, but to tens of millions of Christians living in poverty, in famine, in oppression, in political turmoil, surrounded by real death, real danger, and real persecution, they are 'specifics.' To your 'hypotheticals' I can only say the punch-line of an old joke, "Speak for yourself, white-man!" (Tonto, speaking to the Lone Ranger, I forgot the joke, but I think you get it. And before anyone screams, "Racism!" I am a Christian caucasian living in a country over 99 percent non-Christian and non-white.) I live in Japan where abortion is not just commonplace, it is the norm. A typical home is less than 700 sq.ft. and costs USD300,000. As to my daily 'experience,' I fellowship regularly with saints from Malaysia, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Ghana. Many of my acquaintances are actively involved with mission work in Uganda, India, China and the Philippines. To these Christians, trusting God in the sense you use is not prudent or wise. Finally, though the Lord has blessed me with two 'miracle' children, now my wife has a tumor in her womb. It is not life-threatening in itself, and fairly common, but bearing children is not advisable, and possibly dangerous. I must 're-think' the issue, and answer to God for my actions. Indeed, modern contraception is a new thing, and as with many 'new-fangled' technologies we must be careful to use them carefully. Even the PC I am using to discuss this with you, and the internet in general can be Satan's tool if abused. I do not promote abuse, but careful, thoughtful use under the guidance of ministerial counsel and God's Spirit. My friend, this is just another view of the issue. I look forward to continued fellowship. Blessings to you in Christ Jesus. |

1084 | How about common sense? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1509
My dear friend bjanko, I agree with so much thay you say! I do, however, detect two questions, not one. 1) Abortion (murder) and 2) contraception (prevent conception) I am just as adamant as you about 1), but the original question is about 2) My scripture references are: Proverbs 1:20 "Wisdom shouts in the street, She lifts her voice in the square;" and Proverbs 8:5 "O naive ones, discern prudence; And, O fools, discern wisdom." I know that "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge..." Proverbs 1:7, and that we must trust Him in all our ways. But the above proverbs clearly speak of 'common sense' and 'prudence' as being valid forms of wisdom. 'Practical matters' must enter into our Christian life, or we are not witnesses of truth. (Remember, I agree with you about abortion and post-conception 'birth-control') As to 'rare' health problems, women close to menopause have numerous situations where there is real danger concerning pregnancy, both to mother and child. In a free, 'enlightened,' rich society (like America), with abundant health care, you may have the 'luxury' of deciding to have as many children as you can. In China, attempting to have more than one child is a serious offense. In India, having abundant children is the same as murdering several of those children. In many parts of Africa, bearing children with in-born AIDS is common. In most of the 'rest of the world,' health care is so poor that simple procedures are truly life-threatening. These are not 'hypotheticals,' but reality. One of the big hinderances to evangelism is that Western missionaries are so 'unreal' and bigoted. Again, I believe in 'family' planning. Plan to have a family! But, PLAN. I receive your thought and continue to pray, would you reciprocate? Blessings to you, my friend, in Christ Jesus. |

1085 | Remember the rest of Christianity? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1487
Whatever happened to Deductive Reasoning. I was under the impression that the study of the Bible should begin with investigation of the all the relevant scriptures, known data and possible viewpoints. Under the unction of the Holy Spirit, and using the reasoning ability given us, we are to create hypothesis. The next obvious step is to apply these hypotheses to real life, and confirm them with actual people and situations in the word. All these steps should be in harmony, and the result should be 'livable' by all believers. Some of the doctrines and dogmas put forth here and in many churches are narrow spectrum. They might work fine in the U.S.A. or in the middle-class, or in a nice big, established church, but they are inapplicable or useless in another environment. Many of the views stated are obviously certain personal thoughts or opinions, then the Bible is used to back it up, with little regard to the rest of the church. I have met many Christians who know that Jesus died for them. But they do not care about the end-time, because circumstances do not allow them the luxury. Please, friends and colleagues, remember the rest of Christianity when you create your arguments and confirm your traditions. Just because someone taught you something very convincingly does not make it right. Understand that I am not speaking to one or two individuals, but to us all. I have been challenged by this forum, and had to repent of much assumption. But God is faithful to exhort us all to better understanding is we hear and think, as well as speak. Blessings to all in Christ Jesus.
1086 | Preordained free will? | 1 Pet 2:9 | charis | 1486
Friend, was Peter a Pope? This is a lot harder to answer, and a lot more controversial and emotional. In Christ Jesus.
1087 | How about common sense? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1483
Good morning, bjanko! Awake, now? I read your answer, and could not but agree with you that children are a gift from God. However, 'it follows that a gift not be returned to the Giver' speaks maybe of abortion, but hardly about preventing conception for reasons of common sense(not personal self-interest). I am absolutely against abortion. I also do not believe in couples 'waiting for better days' or 'deciding not to have kids (at all).' I am not sure of the 'inference' connection between this and salvation or obedience/disobedience. Please do be more specific, especially about the common sense issue. I agree that young couples should hope and desire for children, but after a certain amount of blessing, with some volition of the participants, prevention makes sense. You may live in a society where unlimited blessing is not a problem, but many do not. And how about illness or danger to the woman? How about the danger of abstinence to a middle-age couple? These may not be concerns to YOU, but many would disagree. Or do we make holy exemptions, and based on whose decision? Because ALL is in God's hands, do complications or death become His fault? Or is it the judgment of sin? I don't believe in 'situational ethics,' But without a bit more specific scriptural direction, I cannot see throwing out common sense. The Bible does, however, tell us to be wise and discerning. To throw away the gift of reason is also foolish. Finally, a properly shepherded marriage will find personal direction from the Lord through His church. My friend this is a good discussion. I appreciate your input, and await your answer. In Christ Jesus.
1088 | Scripture please? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1481
Dear bjanko, Scripture please? I wrote a pretty good (in my humble opinion) reply and asked for some references. Perhaps you didn't like my tone, and for that I apologize. Or, perhaps you forgot, or didn't want to answer. Then, I take back the apology :-) Please, friend, the question was 'hanging' until Lady Magdelon accidently 'answered' it. In Christ Jesus.
1089 | The headship of Christ | Col 3:17 | charis | 1473
Greetings, Ray V.H., (and all the saints following this line of discussion) I was new to computers myself, not too long ago. I was 'elected' to learn about them in order to keep our school computers running. The 'smiley' is an emoticon. There are lots I don't know, but I like 'smiley' and 'winky' ;-), with an occasional frown :-(. A GPF is a Windows term, meaning 'General Protection Fault,' or sometimes lovingly BSoD, 'Blue Screen of Death.' This usually means that your PC is in terminal confusion, and even if it says PAK, 'Press Any Key,' your unsaved data is toast (forfeit). When a person GPFs, it means that a 'restart' is in order, or restate in simpler langauge. (of course, we all know that Macs, and Mac users, never have any problems ;-) Some other terms you might want to know are BTW, 'by the way,' LOL, 'laughing out loud,' ROFL (sometimes ROTFL), 'rolling on the floor, laughing.' One important point of 'Netiquette' is that ALL CAPS means 'shouting' or 'screaming,' and is rude. Lately, all small-case and inane contractions are popular, but (to me) that is just 'illiterate' or 'immature.' Please note that all do not share my opinions ;-) As to your desire to 'more correctly' capitalize or not capitalize, I would say that when preaching or discussing the exposition of scripture, this is a good, even healthy thing. I often find myself modifying (very carefully!) the capitalization or punctuation. (Especially when I am explaining the meaning of the Japanese Bible translation, which tends to be more traditional than accurate) However, I believe a 'movement' to get your modifications incorporated into the 'next' version of the NASB will be unfruitful, unless you are recognized as one of the contributors of a following translation effort. I am satisfied with the NASB, as I believe it to be as close to perfect as was possible at the time. As with any revelation, the Holy Spirit will continue to 'adjust' our understanding to His thoughts. Bless your work in Jesus' name.
1090 | Preordained free will? | 1 Pet 2:9 | charis | 1469
Good answer, Twally! I suspect that Calvin was less of a Calvinist than some suspect, and Arminus was less of an Arminist than many Arminists. Paul certainly did not seem too impressed by 'Pauline' doctrine :-) In Christ Jesus. |

1091 | Accuracy not a requirement...? | Revelation | charis | 1468
Dear SSprln, I couldn't help but jump in. I don't think that anyone is implying that the Doctor is not a man of God or inaccurate. But it is true that his books tilt toward sensationalism. He, like many modern ministers, uses emotions to get your attention. This is entertainment. One thing though, adding little titles after your name is not proof of godliness or truth. Paul probably had more 'credits' than that, and he 'counted all as loss.' Peter probably had none, but he knew Jesus. Frankly, I would count personal service to the saints in a local church as of more value in God's sight than a thousand doctorates or books or shows. Comments? Blessings in Christ Jesus. |

1092 | Personal Introduction Service? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1464
Personal Introduction Services? Dear Cking_Hisface, Though this is in the 'questions' column, that is for the purpose of letting all the participants of this forum see it. I am listing my Hotmail address so that any of you may contact me. I am volunteering my services to act as contact manager. If you want to contact me, or any other saint or saints in this forum that have sent me their personal email, I will forward messages anonymously, without publishing it to this forum. That is what 'Nakoudo' means, a go-between. If you have specific instructions about how to use or protect your address, please tell me your preferences. In Christ Jesus, charisjapan@hotmail.com |

1093 | Who is NOT saved? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1439
Who is not saved? My friend, if you interpret the scriptures as saying that all children are saved (not under the curse of Adam) and unbelieving spouses are 'automatically' saved, then add Acts 16:31 "And they said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved, you and your household (automatically)." (my parentheses) Since I have heard that 'household' means up to second cousins, this means allmost no one will go to hell! I agree about 'parental covering,' but Bar-mitzvahs are for Jews. The age varies, probably after 10 years old at the earliest, that's all we can know. As to 'automatic' salvation-by-kinship or marriage, that is not the entirety of the Bible. In Christ Jesus. |

1094 | Is there an age of accountability? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1182
Dear Joseph, the answer is No. The question is, "Were you looking for a particular answer?" You got the answers you got because of your ambiguous question. If you want to discuss this with those of your own thinking, use personal email. We have been invited by our hosts to a Christian Bible Forum, for the edification of the saints, with views and commentary by ALL for ALL. I can imagine that some Christians new to their faith would be thrilled to see lively discussion, but disappointed to see petty bickering among mature men of the Word. The best way you can show forth your bent, is to use the Bible clearly, use common sense, and show a little honor and dignity. (and maybe a wee bit of humor :-) With love in Christ Jesus.
1095 | Which question, please? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1431
Dear Lady, The line of thought for this particular posting was 'birth control.' If you look below (scroll down), you will see this listing highlighted in yellow. You can use the 'Search' button on the upper left to find user comments by Bible verse, Date, User name, or Word. If you type 'YaHWeH' in the 'Word' box, then 'Enter', the postings with this word will come up. Sometimes this Old Testament name of God is just YHWH, and sometimes He is called Jehovah. I hope this helped you. If you need help again, just click the 'Question' button, and type Help, and explain your problem, then send it in. I, or someone else, will try to give you some pointers. Please keep posting! Blessings to you in Christ Jesus
1096 | Blood sacrifices during the Millenium? | Heb 10:12 | charis | 1430
Dear Nrojac, Hebrews 10:12 states, " but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God," This is said in other ways throughout the New Testament. For anyone to negate this teaching, it would seem the burden of proof is upon the one proposing it. I can find no reference to reinstatement of blood sacrifices, and have no reason to believe God is going to send 'Christian offspring' to hell. In Jesus |

1097 | 0-fold ministry? | Hebrews | charis | 1427
Dear rcscroll, Then Paul was saying what? 3-fold ministry? Paul called himself an apostle 16 times, so he was at least number 14 after Matthias. Then there was Barnabas, Andronicus, Junias, and James, the Lord's brother. Jesus was a prophet after John the baptist. In Acts 15, Judas and Silas are called prophets, and Paul speaks of prophets and prophecy as for the church in 1 Corinthians and Ephesians. Shall we also do away with 'pastors,' as the word only occurs once? 'Evangelist' comes up three times, and 'teacher' as a ministry only twice. You see, my friend, you cannot legitimatize ministry based on your own traditions. All five ministries are listed for a reason, and I think all are 'under-utilized.' As a matter of fact, many spiritual gifts (ministries are gifts) are misunderstood and 'under-utilized.' I believe that many today shun or disregard the spiritual gifts because they focus on the abuses. I will be the first to admit that these gifts are misused, abused and sometimes just plain false. However, I have witnessed these spiritual gifts being used in an orderly manner, bestowing blessing and guidance, edifying the church, and lifting high the name of Jesus. Would you also deny miracles, healing, and guidance by the Holy Spirit? Yes, indeed, these will help in our pursuit of unity. Obviously, knowledge and scholarship have not led us to unity, yet. I understand a dearth of balance these days, on both sides, but to do away with some of our most powerful weapons is unwise. Peace to you in Christ Jesus.
1098 | What is the point? | 1 Thessalonians | charis | 1416
Good morning and good night, EveryHome :-) I am centrist in doctrine, in that I desire to be unaffected by the swinging, swaying and bobbing of the 'plumb bob.' I am centralist in that I believe that all authority should rest on one Entity, Jesus Christ. I don't want to be 'of Apollos' or 'of Paul,' (or of Arminus, Calvin, the Pope, etc.) but of Jesus Christ. A thought (with a touch of irony): "...the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch." Acts 11:26 Could it be that the belivers in Antioch were the first to be free from denominationalism? You know, the 'Reformed Pharisees Fellowship,' the 'Church of the Circumcision Plus,' the 'Resurrection Sadducees,' and the 'First Temple of the Forgiven Tax-men' factions that were popular in Jerusalem. I agree with you that evangelism is paramount. Preaching the Good News to all the earth is a command to all believers, and leading the church to live the Good News is the responsibility of those called to serve as ministers. This would include the 'enlightened' U.S.A. Many 'enlightened' missionaries are more worried about making disciples of their thinking than disciples of Christ. Here is where we can be strengthened against the 'wiles of the devil.' Preaching Jesus, rather than doctrine, we will not be overcome by Satan. In Christ Jesus. |

1099 | What is the point? | 1 Thessalonians | charis | 1412
Dear EveryHome, I appreciate very much your comments and compliments. You did indeed ask me for specifics, and I did not comply. I wish I could point to few resources, or even one that has 'impressed me.' Unfortunately, none come to mind. The main reason for this is not my arrogance, but my ignorance. I've been here for almost 15 years, and when I go to the U.S. I always look at the titles available on the shelf, and sometimes buy them. However, my (limited) experience has always left me disappointed. I guess it is because they are usually 'best-seller' type books appealing more to the emotions (flesh-soul) than to the heart (soul-spirit). Though almost all books use scripture, the focus is sensationalism, alarmism and divisive support for their 'X-trib' docrine, not faith building words of exhortation or encouragement. Many read them and are more worried about their own lack of faith or the power of Satan, the result does not build the church. I think the best 'end-time teaching' is a good study Bible, a shepherded and fellowshipping church, and a balanced pulpit. In Jesus. |

1100 | Hotmail anyone? | Bible general Archive 1 | charis | 1411
Dear Fellows, Hotmail anyone? I read earlier a suggestion about using Hotmail for personal communication and fellowship. No one has come forth, and I can guess why. I have asked our host about it but received no answer one way or the other. I offer my hotmail address below as a means of introducing one to another. I cannot guarantee flawless or eternal service :-), and cannot bear legal responsibility for any problems that could occur (even among Christians), but I will try to honor your trust and respect your wishes. (This sounds like the 'Nakoudo.' or Japanese matchmaker :-) If you want to send your address to my Hotmail account, remember to give me instructions about how you want this information used. In Christ Jesus, charisjapan@hotmail.com |
