1 | should it be Easter, or Passover? | Not Specified | sonofmom | 221766
Should Christians celebrate Passover or Easter? I am dismayed by the amount of pagan influences that are connected with this holiday. My church doesn't say 'Happy Easter', but instead, 'Happy Resurrection Day' I do not want to partake in the festivities of coloring eggs, but allow it for the grandkids' sake. Does Passover have a connection with the resurrection? |

3 | Is God capable of sarcasm, are people 1? | Not Specified | sonofmom | 223946
This verse in Gen 11:6 seems to be sarcasm, as God is using it to ridicule those who are constructing the Tower of Babel. Can the verse be applied to people today, as in God's people being one? I do not see much evidence of this. So the verse must be interpreted in context. In the prior chapter, Noah's sons are listed and they are divided, but in the first verse of ch 11 it says they were all of one language. So then in vs 8, when the Lord scatters them and they leave to go buid the city, is this the same city which is mentioned in vs 4? Is God even capable of sarcasm? It seems so, fo in Gen 3:22, God uses it to ridicule again, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil... Sorry so many questions, but they are all related to verse 6 |

4 | Do they who reign live 900 years? | Not Specified | sonofmom | 224867
During a get-together at a church, a man said that those who would be reigning with Christ were to be alive for 900 years-plus, as in the days before the flood. I questioned that notion, and the pastor actually agreed with him so I asked where the Bible might mention such a thing. I was told it was somewhere in Isaiah. Can anybody tell me what they might be speaking of? |

Discussing Book of Revelation w/a friend, I was informed that it was all symbolism, to which I replied that the symbolism is explained within the Bible. I was also told that a favorite (symbol) was where horses were eating other horses. I do not recall seeing this, can anyone help me to help this brother to see the light in this wonderful Book? |

9 | Free in Christ | Not Specified | sonofmom | 240327
What does it mean to be "Free In Christ"? I am aware of being free from the law of sin and death, but I had a interview with a pastor today who talked of the centrality of God's word and then he claimed to be free in Christ which seemed to allow him some latitude but am not sure what. |

11 | The Cross removed power of sin for all? | Not Specified | sonofmom | 242082
Hello Saints, I have continually been trying to teach my son some biblical truth, and he became interested in a church, so I looked up what their belief system was and this is what I found, and I do not think it is biblically accurate. What do you think? I do not want to say that they are teaching wrong and then find out I am the one mistaken, but I want my son to walk in the truth. Now, contained within the statement of church beliefs is this: "Someday, our Messiah will come back to Earth to redeem all those that are His, those that have been grafted into the commonwealth of Israel (Rom 11, Eph 2). Then He will reign from the New Jerusalem for 1000 years (1 Thes 3:13, Rev 20:4). After that period, God will raise up the rest of the dead, and the entire Earth will be judged at the Great White Throne Judgment (Rev 20:5)." I am seeing that these verses are being taken out of context, and are not accurately used as prooftext in the proper place, because my belief is that Jesus has been given power over death and hades Matt 27:52 relates, "and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life." This to me is saying that the dead in Christ will be raised on two different events? Also, the part about the whole world being judged at the Great White Throne, I do not think that Christians will face judgment at the Throne, but later, at the Bema seat judgment. Am I correct in this? Along the same line, the church statement says, "•What was destroyed at the cross, in fact, was the power of sin and the penalty thereof over all of mankind." Now, I do not want to get picky here, but the power of sin is not taken away for all of mankind, or there would be no justice, I would think. Am I correct, or am I in the wrong in this? I have been working too hard ately to have as much time to study and research as I used to, so your help is greatly appreciated |

Thank you J I was really hoping someone could point out a passage where horses were doing what he suggested. Through that we could find some truth. If it is not in the entire Bible, then we will not be able to discuss it. |

14 | Anyone interested in Revalations 13:3? | Bible general | sonofmom | 240370
MzVicki, Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum! I have found this to be most excellent in searching out answers as it relates to the truth of God's inspired, infallible Word. You will always find good Christians here that are ready to engage in discourse concerning the Bible and how it pertains to daily living. However, we will only engage in truthful teaching. We are instructed in 2Timothy 2:15 : Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Now, I have to leave for work now, but will open this for discussion, after saying that Arthur Murrey is a heretic, that does not teach the truth. (Sorry for being blunt) Please go to CARM Christian apologetics and research ministry for problems associated with his teaching, such as 'serpent seed' doctrine. Now, as to the Roman Catholic Church, Please go to Proclaiming the Gospel ministries and see what Mike Gendron has to offer. That is a good historical account of the RCC that you have offered for perusal, and I thank you for that. But we look to the inerrant, infallible, and inspired Word of God for all answers pertaining to life and salvation. I apologize for cutting this short, but I will return this pm to further bolster my argument in truth. May our Lord bless you richly as you seek Him. |

18 | Is the Bible the word of man or God? | Bible general Archive 4 | sonofmom | 221854
Hi jgingrich, Your short and long versions of your question could be two different questions. I will start out by trying to answer the short one. There are many proofs at many different levels that lead us to understand (believe) that the Bible was written by the inspiration of God. These proofs are both internal and external. The first internal proof is, is the Bible tells us so. And God cannot tell a lie. But more important are the facts: The Bible is approx 1/3 made up of prophecies, and approx 80 percent of those prophesies have come true, to the letter. That means 100 percent accuracy to date, since other remaining prophecies are still to be fulfilled. The Bible contains 66 Books, written by 40 or more authors from various walks of life, many who never even heard of each other, and also was written over a span of some 1600 years or more. -And all this without a SINGLE CONTRADICTION. (if you think there may be contradictions, it is most likely due to misunderstanding. Bring the verses to this forum and someone will be able to help you correct the problem.) Now, do you think that we could find any two authors to write, even a lengthy newspaper article in seperate rooms, about any subject, without any contradictions? How you answer this question will say much about how you make decisions in life and will also have an eternal impact. For if anyone decides to dismiss the Bible as the Word of God, then they may as well dismiss God. Because of its claim to be the very Word of God, the Bible has suffered countless attacks and attempts to destroy it than any other book in history. -From early Roman Emperors through communist dictators and on to modern-day atheists, the Bible has withstood the test of time while outlasting all of its attackers and is still today the most widely published book in the world. So, as you probably know, God is an eternal being. This means he is not confined within the constraints of time, as we are. Just ask yourself, if there was a supreme being, that created a world filled with creatures, and wanted to let these creature know how much He loves them, and give them proof of all of this, and do it across the barrier of time, then how could this be accomplished? I would say that prophecy is a pretty strong bet, wouldn't you? One example of this is when God gave the prophecy of the 70 weeks to Daniel, He gave it through an angel. This has proven to be so accurate that some have accused it of being written at a later date and then disguised as an older manuscript. But the truth is, that this prophecy was translated into Greek about 200 years prior to its fulfillment, proving that it was not written after the fact. Take Jesus' empty tomb for instance. Some have said that this was all an elaborate hoax by His disciples, who stole His body from the tomb while the guards were asleep. But do you think it is feasible that someone would actually give their life in a painful death to protect the hoax's discovery? This is what happened to all the Apostles, all except John, who died a natural death. |
