1 | Is it ever o.k. to say no to a brother | Not Specified | hisown_07 | 125688
When it comes to 1 John 3:19 - If you have this world's goods and see that your brother hath a need... My question is, does this apply at all times. Is there ever a time when we should not give? Do you think it is o.k. to give money that is marked for your rent or for a particular bill to a brother even if it may mean getting behind or losing a particular service? What about when you know that something that someone has need of could have been obtained by them but neglected to do what could have been done to get it fairly easily? What about if you know their neglect to do is a consistent one. Is it ever wrong to decline giving but instead giving good and feasable advice on how to get it and, or helping them to get it.

3 | Should a Christian be a Democrat? | Bible general Archive 2 | hisown_07 | 125691
Is it o.k. to be a democrat? Yes. Is it o.k. to be a republican? Yes. I am a black male and as you may know most black christians support democrats. I have gotten away from this myself. I do not claim to be rep. nor dem. At election time I seek the Lord and ask him to lead me in who I should vote for. I don't vote for any specific party as a whole but individuals. Also, because rep. have their quirks I see this way as the best way to vote. In the end, though, it usually comes down to voting for the lesser of two evils.

5 | will Jesus take away from you? | Bible general Archive 2 | hisown_07 | 125693
Jesus will take away something He gave to you if he believes it will cost you your salvation. If anything is a threat to your salvation God will act. IF anyone does obtain something and knows that it wasn't God's will for them to have that is sin.
6 | Reading Harry Potter | Bible general Archive 2 | hisown_07 | 125694
It is a matter of personal strength. There are some saints who don't need to watch t.v., go to the movies and other things because they cannot handle it responsibly. Of course, not all things can be done but, for those things that can it is based on your personal and spiritual strength along with what the Lord and, or your spiritual leader leads.
7 | Age of Miracles - Past or Present | Bible general Archive 2 | hisown_07 | 125702
The definite answer to this question is found in Acts 2:38-39. 38) "Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39)For the promise is for you and to your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself." As you may know the Bible tells of the sign of having the holy spirit is speaking in other and unknown tongues. It also says that tongues are not a sign to the believer but a sign to the unbeliever. Take a look at the promise in verse 39. Peter says this promise, of the Holy Ghost, was promised to them and their children and ALL THAT ARE AFAR OFF, EVEN AS MANY AS THE LORD OUR GOD WILL CALL TO HIMSELF. Ask yourself this question, "Who determines when "afar off ended?", and, "How many people will the Lord call to Himself?" If the Holy Spirit is not available to people anymore and if there are no more unbelievers in the world then God has called all the people he is going to call and the need for speaking in tongues is no longer needed except for personal edification. Acts 1:8 states, "You shall receive power after you receive the Holy Spirit." Upon establishing this fact I want to now clarify your thought of the "age of miracles" being ended. In John 14:12 Jesus states, "Truly, truly, I say unto you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; AND GREATER WORKS THAN THESE HE WILL DO BECAUSE I GO UNTO THE FATHER." Jesus spoke to no man or generation specifically. He was just making a factual statement that applied to ALL WHO BELIEVE. What this means is that if we,all who believe, can do the same things and even greater things than Jesus did then miracles are still in play. Not only have I seen them but, because I also believe, they have occured personally in my life. Oh yes, I have also done some with others myself. The Bible is true. |

8 | Once | Bible general Archive 2 | hisown_07 | 125703
This is one of the most untrue statements ever made. Read Hebrews 10:26-31. This just one scripture reference. Remember also, the one talking about, "...a dog returning to his own vomit." |

9 | Are christians promised 70 years of life | Bible general Archive 2 | hisown_07 | 125704
No there is no such promise. Even of the disciples of Christ, many of them died before they were seventy.
10 | How should I study? | Bible general Archive 2 | hisown_07 | 125706
I have been in the same situation before. Even now, after being saved for 15 years, I still encounter these situations. The best I can tell you to do is to 1) talk to you Pastor about your findings and 2)If for some reason you find that you do not agree with your Pastor then, if the topic is not one that threatens your salvation then it is your opinion but do not teach other members of your church in contrast to your pastor's teaching. You may just need to either keep it to yourself. 3)If it is something that is major to your salvation then be obedient to the words of your pastor and if you still believe you are right pray that God will either confirm you thoughts and, or give you peace about following your pastor's. It is better to be obedient than risk being wrong. Also, if your Pastor is wrong then, if he or she allows God to do so, God will reveal it to them. Otherwise, just as we stand in judgement so do our pastors. Have faith that your pastor will or is led of the Lord. If you do not go to a church and do not have a pastor then you need to do so. Otherwise, you are like a gold fish in the ocean. No one can make it to heaven on their own. "Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. How can one hear if they do not have a preacher?" How many people do you know who graduated from high school and college with out ever going, having an instructor and never taking a test.
11 | Does God "cause" or "allow"? | Bible general Archive 2 | hisown_07 | 125707
God does allow things to happen. As you said he does have a permissive will as well as a perfect will. As far as causing things to happen it is still an allowing. You see, since every man is made of flesh there is always an opportunity for failing God. All God has to do to allow something to happen in some step back and let the devil and a man's flesh take over. Remember, there are some things God allows to happen for his glory. The thing is He still leaves it up to a man to choose to be used of the devil. Also, the devil cannot help himself when it comes to trying to destroy a plan or person of God even if he knows it will turn out to work against him. The Bible says that God does not tempt any man with evil; but every man is tempted when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed.
12 | The devil hearing your thoughts | Bible general Archive 2 | hisown_07 | 125708
The devil cannot hear your thoughts but he is a master at reading reactions. The devil is also, next to God, the ultimate lie detector: partly because he is the father of them. As far as the thoughts of men being sinful this is true also if the thoughts are sinful. The thing about it is the thoughts actually become a sin once a person begins to entertain them, or really begin to knowingly, think deeply upon them. Remember Jesus said that a man commits adultery when he thinks about it in his heart. It is impossible to keep a bird from flying over your head but it is possible to stop it from building a nest there. Initial thoughts can be seen as the bird flying over your head; entertaining the thoughts is the bird building the nest. Also, if sinful thoughts come to your mind check yourself and evaluate what you have been watching and what you have been talking about. Be careful of what you watch and talk about because they can plant seeds that will sprout on the devil's cue. Otherwise, with thoughts, all the devil can do is help plant the seeds and nurture them to maturation.
