Hello Gospelpearl, Are you thinking of: 2Ch 23:13 And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king: and all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets, also the singers with instruments of musick, and such as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason. "and such as taught to sing praise"? By Grace, eklektos |

3 | Can anyone recommend a good study book? | Bible general Archive 3 | eklektos | 172690
Any study book that you read will have someone's opinion written within the pages. There is one Book and One only that can bring you Life. There is one Book that will bring you to your knees. There is one Book we are commanded to read. No matter what is said, the final word on the matter is Scripture. The Bible is written in such a way that the words written within mature as you mature. We have much technology and many abilities earlier fathers did not have and yet many are farther away from the Father than those. As Paul states, we have such a cloud of witnesses, we really should be ashamed that we are so far from the Father. Always looking for some easy way to go through the gate. Looking for the path of least resistance. Well, there is only One path and Jesus told us how to learn all there is to know about the Father. "Man shall not live ... but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God." We can have Philo, Josephus, Pink, Packer, Spurgon, Graham and these are good and not to be trod upon but they all contain a man's opinion and therefore contain a bias someplace. There is One Book and One only. If one could master the book of Psalms and the book of Proverbs and of Job and of the Gospel of John, and ... well, there you go, book after book within the Book. Scripture alone I think is the call. The Holy Spirit is promised to guide us unto ALL understanding, if we are willing. In an hour when we know not what to say, the Holy Spirit is promised to give us the words to speak. Where two or three are gathered in My name, there I Am. In your closet in prayer we see the Father. "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me." Worship Him in Spirit and Truth and you will know Him for He will show Himself to you. "Will ye also go away?" ... "Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life." Yes, but, ...! eklektos |

4 | Can anyone recommend a good study book? | Bible general Archive 3 | eklektos | 172694
I believe in an earlier post it was said, "these are good and not to be trod upon", pertaining to commentators and historians, that that point might have been overlooked. And, looking back on multitudes of previous posts, we can see a vast number of quotes and referrals to these great persons of the past, however, we cannot say that a foot has no need for an eye or the eye is foolish because of its needs. When this happens the foot must say to the eye, "I shall turn the other cheek". eklektos |

5 | Can anyone recommend a good study book? | Bible general Archive 3 | eklektos | 172866
Thank you Tim for your stand. I know our Father is pleased that we understand that He needs no help in explaining what He has said in Scripture. The Holy Spirit is quite capable of opening minds at the right time to receive the fullness of His Word. When we force God to open up Scripture to us it is not always the best to our advantage because we won't really see what He is telling us unless we have come to that point in our lives when certain Scripture will mean exactly what it says. If a person is part of the church, God is not going to let a person say, In My Opinion. He is not a God of confusion but unity. We have been bombarded with the thought that we can't know what God is talking about unless someone else explains it to us. That makes the Holy Spirit a wimp. And, I don't think so!. If a part of Scripture is sealed from us, most likely we are not ready to hear it because after hearing it we must act on it. Moreover, some are just not ready; God knows the heart and mind. As Paul says some, still need milk. Thou shall not tempt the Lord thy God. eklektos |

8 | Where do I find the Bible Almanac | Bible general Archive 3 | eklektos | 174008
Greetings MM, If you are referring to the book that contains peoples, places and events of the Bible, you should be able to get one or order one through any Christian book store or large book store, like Barnes and Noble or Waldens. Check your local library for a copy, they may have different versions that you could preview and then make your choice as what to order for your personal library. Perhaps your pastor could lead you into the right direction. According to the Internet, the book is available at Amazon.com. Because of the limitations of this forum’s ability to use certain characters of Internet addresses, just go to the book section of Amazon.com and do a Search for the title, "Bible Almanac". The book is also printed in a 'Kids' version. Also available is the Thompson Chain Reference Bible that has a vast amount of these topics printed toward the rear. eklektos |

9 | Laying the Fountain for Understanding! | Bible general Archive 3 | eklektos | 174079
Dear Lady Grace7044, First, I must tell you, I have re-read your posts from the past and I want to tell you that you are lifted by your grace and innocence. Our Lord is pleased with a contrite heart and a willingness to be all you can be for Him and in Him. I have read all your past questions and most of your answers and notes. You have thrilled my heart. God's blessing is on you. Before answering your question that you have now posted, I would ask two things, and that would be, What age group are you teaching in Sunday school? The other question I would have is, How where you called to be a Sunday school teacher? It is also my distinct desire to know from what country you are? Are you from Eastern Europe or Western Russia? In addition, can you read a foreign language? I only ask this, not to belittle, but that there are Bibles written in most languages around the world that may give you more light to the Scriptures than English. Truly and most seriously Dear Lady and Sister, there is nothing in my heart but the best for you and your understanding of our Father's Word. (Psa 139:23) Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! Continually your servant, eklektos |

11 | Fasting | Bible general Archive 3 | eklektos | 174384
Greetings Corin, There is one kind of fast - no food. A personal note: - when you decide to fast to the Lord God of Creation, follow through with it, it is similar to a vow, a personal contract between you and God. eklektos |

12 | Fasting | Bible general Archive 3 | eklektos | 174386
Greetings Corin, Most likely you are referring to Daniel's mourning fast: Dan 10:2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three whole weeks. Dan 10:3 (ASV) "I ate no pleasant bread" - Margin, “bread of desires.” So the Hebrew. The meaning is, that he abstained from ordinary food, and partook of that only which was coarse and disagreeable. "Neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth" - That is, he lived on bread or vegetables. It is not to be inferred from this that Daniel ordinarily made use of wine, for it would seem from Dan. 1: that that was not his custom. What would appear from this passage would be, that he practiced on this occasion the most rigid abstinence. "Neither did I anoint myself" - The use of unguents (bathing) was common in the East, and Daniel here says that he abstained during these three weeks from what he ordinarily observed as promoting his personal comfort. He gave himself up to a course of life which would be expressive of deep grief. Nature prompts to this when the mind is overwhelmed with sorrow. Not only do we become indifferent to our food, but it requires an effort not to be indifferent to our dress, and to our personal appearance. (Albert Barnes' Notes on the Bible) Note: parenthesis in the text above are mine for clarification. It is up to you how you will perform your duties during your fast. There is not set formula. eklektos |

13 | fasting | Bible general Archive 3 | eklektos | 174388
Greetings Corin, It would be good for you to open your Bible and read about these men and why they fasted. These are not difficult questions: About Daniel's fast The Scriptures do not specificaly say why. About Jesus' fast read Luke 4:2 About Elijah's fast read 1 Kings ch19 The Scriptures is God's word to us, to get to know more about Him you will have to read and study His word. Yes, a man can go forty days on a fast. Notice who did this, Jesus, Moses and Elijah. These fasts were for Very Special reasons. One would have to be unwavering in his spirit to perform this. These were special men called of God for special purposes. eklektos |

15 | In MRK 14:25 what VINE was He tlking abt | Bible general Archive 3 | eklektos | 176752
Greetings Sistasista, Welcome to the forum! The vine Jesus referred to in this passage was the grape vine, literally. He is telling His disciples that this would be His last meal before being put to death. If we look at Mark 14:22 it says, "And as they did eat" would mean that they were already eating and drinking. The same is written in Mat 26:26. Furthermore, Jesus did NOT drink of the vine while He was on the cross. Mark 15:23 says, "but He refused it" and Mat 27:34 says, "and when He had tasted therefore, He would not drink", thus completing the prophecy in Psa 69:21, "... and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink." In Joh 19:30, "When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar" does NOT mean that He drank it. So, in Mark 14:25, the vine does NOT refer to the Eucharist, but means just what it says, the grape vine. If you read more into this passage of Scripture, you are in danger of being misled. eklektos |
