3 | Why was Jesus named “Jesus”? | Not Specified | ekip | 6101
Why was Jesus named “Jesus” in the New Testament and not “Immanuel” as quoted from the Old Testament? I don’t know if this is a dumb question but I noticed this reading Matthew 1:21 (Jesus) and verse 23 (Immanuel).

13 | Why honey in decayed lion bones.judg14:8 | Judg 14:8 | ekip | 39831
From JFB Commentary: There was probably a time lapse of a year, the usual interval between the ceremonies of betrothal and marriage. In such a climate, the myriads of insects and the ravages of birds of prey, together with the influences of the solar rays, would, in a few months, put the carcass in a state inviting to such cleanly animals as bees. From Matthew Henry’s Commentary (concise): By enabling him to kill a lion, God let Samson know what he could do in the strength of the Spirit of the Lord, that he might never be afraid to look the greatest difficulties in the face. He was alone in the vineyards, whither he had rambled. Young people consider not how they exposed themselves to the roaring lion that seeks to devour, when they wander from their prudent, pious parents. Nor do men consider what lions lurk in the vineyards, the vineyards of red wines. Our Lord Jesus having conquered Satan, that roaring lion, believers, like Samson, find honey in the carcass abundant strength and satisfaction, enough for themselves, and for all their friends. |

15 | Justice or revenge? | 1 Kin 2:6 | ekip | 39648
David was instructing Solomon to carry out justice according to the law. Joab killed the two commanders Abner and Amasa during peacetime, which according to the law and God’s commandments is murder. For some reason, David chose not to hold Joab accountable for his unlawful acts but, he knew justice must be served and trusting Solomon’s wisdom, instructed Solomon to properly deal with him according to the law.
16 | Is there a difference in meaning? | 1 Chr 4:10 | ekip | 6087
The last part of the prayer of Jabez from the New King James Version that everyone is quoting reads, "...that I may not cause pain!". The NASB reads, "...that it may not pain me". The KJV, NIV, and Amplified read in a similar way to the NASB. To me these mean different things. I read the NASB as saying; don't let the harm cause pain to me where the NKJV says to me so that I won't do the harm. Is there a difference, translation issue, or am I thinking about it too hard?
17 | from the standpoint of the English? | 1 Chr 4:10 | ekip | 6095
Thanks for the good information. The issue is much more involved than I thought. I would be interested to know if, from the standpoint of the English translations, you (or others) think the NKJV means something different? It does to me as I read it. I am curious about it since every one seems to be talking about this verse as a result of the Book written on it.
18 | Sounds different than a hippopotamus? | Job 40:15 | ekip | 40
I have heard that but, the description makes it sound much larger. Job 40:17 describes its tale as ‘like a cedar’ which would not fit a hippopotamus would it?

20 | Wisdom vs. knowledge | Prov 1:7 | ekip | 10
Wisdom and knowledge are different. Fearing the Lord requires both these attributes. I think having knowledge means knowing God's teachings and having wisdom means you are following God and His teachings.
