1 | Is poor the only way? | Matt 25:45 | TheProphet | 203543 | ||
I got saved about 30 years ago when I was about 26 y.o. I had a lot of ups and downs. Some christians seem to abound and never go down. It helps if you've had training in something, otherwise, trusting in the goodness of God and having a lot of initiative is the other way to prosper. I fell in the last category. When I got saved, I met a man who attached himself to me and wouldn't let me go. He taught me everything he knew about the scriptures, and also, more importantly, about how to apply them to my life. As far as training went, there was no way I could prosper, and so he encouraged me to keep an eye out for a business opportunity. A few months later (after having applied myself to prayer and telling the Lord that I would like to prosper) I met an old acquaintance who happened to be (i didn't know this before) was the manager of the local t.v. cable company. During our conversation it came up that he needed a company to do their installations for about a year. This was a good situation for me, because I was preparing to go on a mission trip in about a year, and there were numerous men and women in our church who were out of work. I signed a contract with him the next morning, and I then encouraged the bretheren to come work with me. (It didn't take much....The pay was great). After my missionary time (BTW, i'm not a Mormon.)I worked in cable, but not as a contractor. I got married and just lived an impoverished life for a number of years. The desire to have more came back and I started doing household repairs in my spare time for a real estate co. . Then (about 10 years ago) I got into doing rehabilitation work for investors. The long and the short of it is to trust God with your prosperity, and your results are equal to your effort. More recently, I was injured on a job site, and I have been forced to collect Social Security, but it's been a good thing. My wife and I have been able to spend time with people in the church who are in need, or new believers. Generally, "...I've learned both how to be abased, and how to abound." John |
