1 | Is Prosperity wrong in light of Mk 16:15 | Not Specified | In the Andes | 53542
How is it that God is against money and prosperity when He has commanded us to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature? How can we say that prosperity is heretical when God's Ambassadors are suffering financial hardship needlessly? Do we criticize those televangelists for "impure motives" yet the average american family has 2 or 3 cars a tv in every room and more appliances than they know what to do with? What do you think? What's worse, to preach that God desires to bless His children financially or to hypocritically spend more money on self than the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ?
2 | Why have kids when... | Not Specified | In the Andes | 53660
Ok, I've got a good question for Discussion. But before I ask it, let's not get into the unanswerable Calvinism Armenianism thing OK. OK here we go, this ought to be fun. I asked a Calvinist one time... "Do you have Kids?" He said "3". I said "Why would you have kids if God might choose one of them to go to hell?" Do you think a true calvinist would ever have kids, because what if God chose one of them for eternal damnation? |

3 | Weird to act like a jew when your not? | Not Specified | In the Andes | 53722
Does anyone else think it's weird that Christians (specifically non Isralites by birth) are trying to live like Jews? Gal 2:3-21 I mean, singing jewish songs, dancing jewish dancing, using jewish words, etc. It's all rather weird to me. Do they think that makes them closer to God? |

Would this statement by Ken Copeland be heretical or unorthedox or orthedox? "The NT irrefutably teaches that Christ did not exercise at least three prime attributes of deity while on the earth prior to His resurrection. These were omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence. Had he done so while a man He COULD NOT have been perfect humanity. The miracles of our Lord offer further proof of His limitations as a man... It can be said on good biblical ground that all of Christ's miracles, powers, and supernatural information were the result of the Father's action through Him, thus safeguarding our Lord's identity as a TRUE MAN." Emphasis mine. |

To all who have read, responded, or thought about responding but didn't, I have misled you. I shall tell you what I did, why I did it, and what you should think about. I quoted a portion of a book, by Robert M. Bowman. Formerly with CRI. www.equip.org I did, exactly what he did. He quoted a portion of a book by Walter Martin former president of CRI which the bible answerman, Hank Han. replaced. He told his coworker to analize this statement. And pass judgement. Heretical or Orthedox. The response, "That's heresy" to which he replied, "That's Walter Martin". His coworker began to back off, and Mr Bowman said, "rightly so". His point was, those who pass judgement based upon what someone else has claimed heresy, cannot tell what heresy is for themselves. They are therefore blindly following PHD's ADD's etc. One person was only able to cut and paste responses completely against Ken Copeland and the faith people. But not one thing was said about the statement. I learned to cut and paste in kindergarden. Has he know thoughts of his own? I chose the name Ken Copeland precisely because of the reaction it would get. It got exactly what I knew it would. A predjudiced response. If you thought that it was heresy, you should know that the Christian Research Institute's former president, WROTE IT AND DID NOT CONSIDER IT HERESY. It wasn't very polite of me to deceive you like that, but I hope you will think from now on before you base your opinions on some books you read. I've studied the subject a good deal. Heresy is a very serious charge. The history of heresy hunting goes back several years. It began because some people seriously opposed healing and prosperity. To prove those two subjects heretical, one must prove the source is heretical. Charismatic Christians tend to be the flackiest group of fruitcakes in the church. They are labeled right along side the "heretical doctrines" of health and wealth is a popular book about the chaos amongst charismatics. And the flaky guys side with the same guys that thinks their nuts. Sad, sad, sad. I seriously doubt that the majority of people at this forum are capable of judging what is and what isn't heresy. I think my test proved my point. The fact is, in the Bible, every time there was a charge of heresy, the heresy was stated in plain lanquage so all could read and understand. Many of the goofy doctrines floating about the body of Christ are not heresy. It's just a mess, to paraphrase Robert Bowman. You should stick to major doctrinal issues to determine heresy. NOT DOES GOD HAVE A BODY, WHAT WAS THE EXACT NATURE OF CHRIST'S POSITION ON THE EARTH ETC. EXACTLY WHERE DID HE GO WHEN HE DIED. AND THE LIKE. Was He born of a virgin? Was He God manifested in flesh? Did he die for our sins and then was resurrected? Is He in a flesh and bone body in heaven? Is salvation by faith alone? Listen if you want to talk heretical...Would it be heretical to say that something in addition to faith is necessary for salvation? Baptism, works? Just something to think about. |

Unfortunately my playtime is over. My wife has returned for a 3 week trip to the states. So I won't be able to visit as often. We are busy busy you know. I've missed her terribly. Appearently you've got Bro Bowmans book. I'll let you reread it. He states very clearly about sources etc. I'm not critizing you. I only want you to be aware that what most people call heresy, is not based upon what is said but upon their bias. I'm aware of the history of apologetics. I was specifically refering to the last 25 yrs. As context will show. I shall enjoy reading the follow-up responses over the next day or so. However, I will not have time to respond. Perhaps something shall be said that will cause me to make time in my planner for a response. It has been a wonderful week conversing with you all. Hopefully, I shall have time in the future to visit you again. If not, be blessed and highly favored by God until we meet face to face in heaven. Then we shall know as we are known. And all of our doctrinal differences will vanish in the light of His glorious kingdom of love. In Him, Andes |

9 | cult by what definition? | Bible general Archive 1 | In the Andes | 57206
Yeah, I agree with you. By definition, she is completely cultic. I would like to hear what some of our Hanagraffites have to say about this. Those who are so fond of cutting and pasting from brother Hank's website should drop you a line. I really wonder how a man can say that Kenneth Hagin is the biggest false prophet in the church today when the prosperity gospel doesn't even come close to the heresies propagated by the Catholic church. As you, from experience pointed out, they don't even teach the basic fundamental doctrines of christianity. Not to mention, all over the world they worship Idols. Praying to and burning candles to statues of "saints" is pretty cultic. Is it NOT cultic/heretical to pray to and worship Mary? If it's not worship what would you call it? Indulgences, transubstantiation(?), confession to priests who pardons your sins after works have been performed, hail Mary's etc, purgatory (and paying the priest to pay you out of it, hmmm, sounds a lot like false "profits" to me.) Time does not permit me to continue. How many pagan rituals has the catholic church incorporated into it's "worship" in the past 2000 yrs? I would really appreciate apologists here in this forum and on radio giving as much time to REAL APOLOGETICS as to it's pet peeves of "health and wealth". Perhaps they don't want to offend people praying to someone other than God, but think it's OK to blast those who believe God is so good it's always His will to heal, even if He cannot for some strange reason. I wonder what's more heretical, paying a priest who will pray to Mary to get grampa out of purgatory, or believing God wants to bless humanity. But I digress. I'm glad you found your way out. Cheerio! |

wow that was so deep i had to get out my cow boots to wade through it. fine, let's call a cult a little bitty group that didn't orginate in christianity. it's still heretical. and if orthodoxy is catholic, I'M UNORTHODOX. you know what, i think i'll avoid this "dispute" for here on out. |

1st of all, Nothing that I said was unkind about Hank. Nor was it gossip or division. I merely used him as an example. I could have used John MacArthur. You will notice that I said, "here in this forum and on the radio". In reading their books, I've noticed that they dig really deep to find hidden meanings in all that is said by the WofF. But they never have to dig so deep with morms jws etc. For instance, to prove that they WofF denies the deity of Jesus, "in becoming man incarnate and living as a man on earth, Jesus Christ made no use of his divine nature but acted as a mere man empowered by the Spirit." (Word Of Faith Controversy by Robert Bowam pg149) Walter Martin says, that "Jesus did not minister as the Son of God-he ministered as a mere man anointed by the Holy Spirit" Kenneth Copeland takes the same view: "Jesus did not minister on earth as the Son of God. He could have. He was God manifest in the flesh." In my own personal study, The WofF tenets are almost identical to those of the Assembly of God. You can find them online. It takes apologists looking for tiny variations to conclude that WofF denies the diety of Jesus. Thereby concluding that they are heretical. However, in the Catholic Church, It's not hard to find numerous doctrinal heresies without having to look so hard. I just pulled this off the internet. A prayer to Mary... "Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy! Our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry... To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping, in this valley of tears. Turn, then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us..." I had to truncate it to fit the space. And the problem of Coredemptress? Listen, to even have the debate whether there is a coredemptress is bad enough. It's my observation that without the apologists muddying the waters, the only real beef they have with WofF is over money and healing. The original Assembly of God tenets of faith clearly states that healing is always God's will based upon the atonement of Christ. That only leaves the subject of money. I'm sure Kalos, if I haven't ticked him off too bad will want to cut and paste from CRI all the other "heretical" doctrines that I haven't mentioned, DON'T BOTHER. I've already read them and will not read them again. I actually prefer MacArthur's book on Charismatic Caos. I really love it where he says that babies born with defects, cancer, blindness and the like are "God's love gift to humanity." That's classic. (But I digress again, sorry kalos) The Catholic church has in one of their creeds that they believe in the trinity. But wouldn't Cordemptress complicate that? Would that make God quadruplets? Pauls words, "even denying the Lord that bought them" are fitting here. You want to start a fight with a Roman catholic? Attack this doctrine of Mary. That she is useless to the church. These are things from the states! The majority are more defenders of Mary than defenders of the faith. How about Mary's assumption? Mary's sinlessness? I've got something even more interesting. In all of Paul's writings (with the possible exception of Col, but it is included there), he deals with the heresy of returning to the law. In every instance where Paul names a heretic, somewhere in close proximity is the heresy. For instance, Hymeneas and Philitus are of this sort, saying that the resurrection is past, and overthrow the faith of some. Then he talks about thier manner of life and how they teach others to sin. Has not the catholic church sold indulgences in times past? What about bringing the church under bodage to rules and regulations? Tell a catholic that church attendance has nothing to do with salvation. Nor confession to a priest. What or who do they trust in? Have you seen what happens in the Phillipines? How they nail themselves to the cross? walk for miles on their knees till they are bleeding profusely? How they flogg thier backs with whips till they are bleeding? What about all the idols of saints and Jesus? "Little Children, keep yourselves from idols." Hellooooooooo!!!!! I've lived there. I'm sorry. These are much worse than things than anything WofF comes up with. Are there not genuine people who love God in the Catholic church? I believe so. Are there not sincere people trusting in the catholic doctrine and their priest to get them into heaven? Will they make it on sincerity alone? No. It's only faith in God and the work of His Son. Are there sincere people in the WofF? etc etc. Again my beef is not with, Hank or anyother brother. It's with the picking and choosing of pet peeves. Kalos so eloquently cut and pasted for us the fact that CRI does not believe that the Catholic church is cultic. How about outright heretical? I wish they would just be consistent. Besides, we don't judge the man, we judge the fruit right? |

Sorry, i don't hold to either of those views of God or heaven. I'll take Cults for 100(dollars) Alex. The question was, is the Catholic Church Cultic? My answer was yes, however because I don't define cultic in the same way as CRI, I must ammend my answer to Heretical in nature. No matter how it started that's the way it is today. And no amount 2 dollar words from CRI or any other organization can change that. No i'm not saying that you have to point out all the problems in all organization. Would you like to discuss the subject of money? |

You agree that there are some very heretical practices in the catholic church. Is this Ok'd by Rome? How can you say absolutely not? The fundamental issues at hand are clearly held by Rome. Maybe all of you can this question. Just how much heresy does it take to get someone to write a book about it? At what point do you say, Ok that's TOO far? A little leaven leavens the whole lump right? If I do not hold to the doctrine of Mary but do do penance am I a heretic? On the flip side, If I do hold to the doctrine of healing for all in the atonement, but not to prosperity, am I a heretic? How do you know I wont read Ch. in Crisis? How do you know I haven't already read it? Outside of quoting from CRI, what proof do you personally have that the only two doctrines on the issue of prosperity are the two that you mentioned above? Since you brought it up, What heretical practices are found among the baptists and AG's? I'd really like to hear this. |

Did you read Kalos' cut and paste? So both are wrong? Does that make both heretical? And if so, will those holding to those heretical doctrines make it to heaven? So you have been to Toronto and Pensacola? That is what qualifies you to pass judgement. "While the 'Toronto blessing' was anything but," Personally I've never been to either place. So I will not presume to pass judgement upon what I have no knowledge of. However, I have had 1st hand experince with many catholic doctrines and practices in my years overseas. Do you know how hard it is to get a person to turn from their faith in the catholic church to faith in Christ. Let's be brutally frank for a moment. If my faith is in the Catholic Church to get me into heaven, Can it be in Jesus also? The answer is NO. It's exactly what Paul dealt with in all of his letters. Am I trusting in anything other than the work of Christ? If so, I have fallen from Grace. See Romans Corinthians Galatians Ephesians Phi. Col. Thess. Tim. Tit. So how often do you watch TBN? |

I'd say that the statement made about WoF here is kind of ignorant. Every ministry lives off of those who listen to them. 1 Cor 9, Rom 15, Gal 6, Phi 4. Whether they are heretical or not. Just ask CRI and Hank what they did with the money from Christianity in Crisis and Counterfit Revival, and The Resurrection? They probably used it to fund their ministries. And to pay salaries. Would anyone care to say that's wrong? Or is that the way things work? "You shall not muzzle the ox while it treads out the grain." I would probably agree with you. Ministries that preach about money get the most money. Ministries on TV and Radio get more than the rest. If God is pleased with your ministry, wouldn't he support it as He did with Paul? Why then should you beg people to support what you? It's totally interesting to me that NOT once to my knowledge does Paul ever mention the subject of healing specifically, but he does devote much of his writing to the subject of money. Rom 12, 13 and 15, 1 Cor 9, 2 Cor 8 and 9, Gal 6, Phi 4 1 Thess 4, 2 Thess 3, 1 Tim 5 and 6, and Philemon. These are devoted to the motives, attitudes, purpose and methods of obtaining money. |

we have denominations because no two people on earth agree about every little detail. And if we don't agree, i'm taking my stuff and going to start my own little group. Word of Faith is a term negatively used to describe a group of christians who believe that it is always God's will that we be healthy wealthy and wise. (yes that is overly simplified) Kalos will probably show you some skills he learned in kindergarden and cut and paste a link or whole article for you. It will be very informative and fun. |

18 | cult by what definition? | Bible general Archive 1 | In the Andes | 57282
Unfortuanately it cannot. for the simple reason that Even though the catholic church admits that God is triune and say that Jesus came in the flesh they also hold to other erroneous teachings. Likewise even though the word of faith admits that Jesus came in the flesh they too are considered to hold to an erroneous view of his coming. It's like everybody says. Yes,yes, I agree to that. But somebody else says, no you really don't because you don't belong to our group OR we don't think that's what you really mean by it. That's why we've got whole groups of organizations devoted to proving everyone else is wrong. And they say that Paul encouraged us to devote our time to proving each other wrong. I personally cannot find a calling in the Bible that's specifically devoted to hunting heresy. Paul dealt with it, but he also planted churches. etc. He was actively fulfilling the great commission. NOT just telling others how to do it. Those who can't do teach. Yes that probably offends many people, I'm sorry. Truth sometimes hurts. Someone told me once, Winning souls is no sign that you are genuine and correct in your doctrine. Or even a Christian. That may be so, but NO GENUINE CHRISTIAN doesn't win souls and makes that his aim. Christianity is not proving your doctrine but "doing the will of my Father." "Working the works of him that sent Me." How many souls are won into the kingdom? "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature, and make disciples of all nations." That should be the end of every true ministry. Jesus said let the tares and wheat grow together. Lest you loose some wheat. In the end, The Lord knows those who are His, and let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity. James 3:13 |

Here are the Tenets of Faith for the AGs. I have had to truncate it for the sake of space. 1. The Scriptures Inspired The Scriptures, both the Old and New Testaments, are verbally inspired of God and are the revelation of God to man, the infallible, authoritative rule of faith and conduct. 2. The One True God The one true God has revealed Himself as the eternally self-existent "I AM," the Creator of heaven and earth and the Redeemer of mankind. He has further revealed Himself as embodying the principles of relationship and 3. The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ The Lord Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. The Scriptures declare: His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His substitutionary work on the cross, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His exaltation to the right hand of God. 4. The Fall of Man Man was created good and upright; for God said, "Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness." However, man by voluntary transgression fell and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death, which is separation from God. 5. The Salvation of Man Man's only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ the Son of God. 6. The Ordinances of the Church Baptism in Water Holy Communion 7. The Baptism in the Holy Ghost All believers are entitled to and should ardently expect and earnestly seek the promise of the Father, the baptism in the Holy Ghost and fire, according to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ. 8. The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Ghost The baptism of believers in the Holy Ghost is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking with other tongues as the Spirit of God gives them utterance. 9. Sanctification Sanctification is an act of separation from that which is evil, and of dedication unto God. 10. The Church and its Mission The Church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of her great commission. 11. The Ministry A divinely called and scripturally ordained ministry has been provided by our Lord for the threefold purpose of leading the Church 12. Divine Healing Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and is the privilege of all believers. 13. The Blessed Hope The resurrection of those who have fallen asleep in Christ and their translation together with those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord is the imminent and blessed hope of the church. 14. The Millennial Reign of Christ The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, which is our blessed hope, followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on earth for one thousand years. 15. The Final Judgment There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead will be raised and judged according to their works. 16. The New Heavens and the New Earth |

Here are the Tenets of faith as outlined in Kenneth hagin ministries website Aslo truncated. As I said, they are almost Identical. Especially the healing one. We Believe.... THE SCRIPTURES - The Bible is the inspired Word of God, the product of holy men of old who spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The New Covenant, as recorded in the New Testament, we accept as our infallible guide in matters pertaining to conduct and doctrine THE GODHEAD - Our God is one, but manifested in three Persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, being coequal (Deut. 6:4;Phil. 2:6). God the Father is greater than all; the Sender of the Word (Logos) and the Begetter (John 14:28; John 16:28; John 1:14). The Son is the Word flesh-covered, the One Begotten, and has existed with the Father from the beginning (John 1:1; John 1:18; John 1:14). The Holy Spirit proceeds forth from both the Father and the Son and is eternal (John 14:16;John 15:26). MAN, HIS FALL AND REDEMPTION - Man is a created being, made in the likeness and image of God, but through Adam's transgression and fall, sin came into the world. The Bible says "...all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God," and "...There is none righteous, no, not one." (Rom. 3:10; 3:23). Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was manifested to undo the works of the devil and gave His life and shed His blood to redeem and restore man back to God . Salvation is the gift of God to man, separate from works and the Law, and is made operative by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, producing works acceptable to God (Eph. 2:8-10). ETERNAL LIFE AND THE NEW BIRTH - Man's first step toward salvation is godly sorrow that worketh repentance. The New Birth is necessary to all men, and when experienced, produces eternal life (2 Cor. 7:10; John 3:3-5; 1 John 5:12). WATER BAPTISM - Baptism in water is by immersion, is a direct commandment of our Lord, and is for believers only. The ordinance is a symbol of the Christian's identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection BAPTISM IN THE HOLY GHOST - The Baptism in the Holy Ghost and fire is a gift from God as promised by the Lord Jesus Christ to all believers in this dispensation and is received subsequent to the new birth. This experience is accompanied by the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Holy Spirit Himself gives utterance. SANCTIFICATION - The Bible teaches that without holiness no man can see the Lord. We believe in the Doctrine of Sanctification as a definite, yet progressive work of grace, commencing at the time of regeneration and continuing until the consummation of salvation at Christ's return. DIVINE HEALING - Healing is for the physical ills of the human body and is wrought by the power of God through the prayer of faith, and by the laying on of hands. It is provided for in the atonement of Christ, and is the privilege of every member of the Church today. RESURRECTION OF THE JUST AND THE RETURN OF OUR LORD - The angels said to Jesus' disciples, "...This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven." His coming is imminent. When He comes, "...The dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air..." . Following the Tribulation, He shall return to earth as King of kings, and Lord of lords, and together with His saints, who shall be kings and priests, He shall reign a thousand years (Rev. 5:10;20:6). HELL AND ETERNAL RETRIBUTION - The one who physically dies in his sins without accepting Christ is hopelessly and eternally lost in the lake of fire and, therefore, has no further opportunity of hearing the Gospel or repenting. The lake of fire is literal. The terms "eternal" and "everlasting," used in describing the duration of the punishment of the damned in the lake of fire, carry the same thought and meaning of endless existence as used in denoting the duration of joy and ecstasy of saints in the Presence of God . |
