1 | Are unbelievers in any way "saved"? | Heb 11:1 | gbea | 118413
Interesting discussion. Thanks, BradK and Rowdy. Surely, God shines the sun and brings the rain on the wicked and the just. In a sense, perhaps He’s “saving” people from some things by allowing them to live on this earth with breath in their lungs, where His Creation testifies of His goodness. It’s perhaps as if He is allowing them to be saved for a short time from hell, where all evil abounds and is judged (apart from God's presence or Light)… even being patient holding back the antichrist so that men can repent. During the tribulation, even the elect can be deceived and fall. While I do not know exactly how our Creator will judge the unbeliever who has never heard the gospel, I am compelled by the Spirit of God and the Scriptures to believe that all who do not repent of their sins and accept Jesus’ sacrifice in their place are condemned to eternal judgment, having their sins on their head. To believe otherwise would leave the believer with a false sense of being righteous while being idle toward the lost… in not preaching the gospel, in season and out, in heart intent, thought, word, and deed. The western Church, particularly, has become quite content to sit in its lush churches with nice entertainment and self help teaching while the rest of the world goes to hell. Maybe we have a wrong picture and must repent. Before Jesus’ death and resurrection, the gentiles were without relationship to the Living God, instead serving idols and being sons/daughters of Satan. It is only by believing on the One whom our Holy Father sent that we are adopted as children of light. Jesus is truly the only way, truth, and life… and no one comes to the Father but through Him. Oh, that we would seek Him and walk in His anointing, that we would boldly testify of our Lord Jesus' sacrifice... that people would hear and believe and repent and follow Him. There is no hope apart from His salvation. Blessings to you. Thanks again!! GB |

2 | How did Nehemiah obey the kosher laws ? | Neh 1:11 | gbea | 117567
Another idea... Today's kosher laws are in many ways a compilation of years of tradition and added restrictions. After the Jewish exile from Israel in the 1st and 2nd centuries, many of them ended up in Spain and spread to northern Africa (now their descendents are called Sephardic Jews), and many spread to Europe (now their descendents are called Ashkenazi Jews). Because they lived under persecution for most of this existence, the rabbis wanted to distinguish the Jewish people from their gentile oppressors and pagans. Therefore, they made the laws more strict, with the Ashkenazi traditions being more strict because they faced greater persecution. They wanted to be set apart from this evil and did not want blend in with society or compromise their call to be a light unto the nations (seems we followers of Jesus Christ - Messiah Yeshua - today could learn from this quest for holiness and sanctification). Because of these added restrictions added in the Diaspora, the kosher laws (kashrut) of today are more strict than the kosher laws of Nehemiah's day (I don't know to what extent). Who knows, perhaps Nehemiah not only tasted the food but oversaw its preparation, etc. (slaughtering particularly)... in turn making the king eat only kosher food. Blessings in your studies of the Scriptures... GB |

3 | Discerning bad fruit and apostasy | Bible general Archive 2 | gbea | 117467
Thanks very much for your response, Hank. I'm prayerfully looking through some of the findings. I know everything I find isn't true (I work with media and study it)... and that the enemy is the Accuser. I also know that there are many things I've said that could be quoted in whatever context... I often say things that are wrong or stupid and am seeking the Lord to purify my heart, mind, thoughts, and words. Then again, I also know that some of these things are not good. I sent a message to the 700 Club. Oh, LORD, help us. Please let your Kingdom come and your will be done on this earth just as it is in heaven!!! Blessings to you, GBea |

4 | I understand that but why did Noah curse | Gen 9:25 | gbea | 116799
Thanks for the response. Right about Canaan not being born yet… sorry. It actually is immaterial, though… whether Noah saw rebellion in him during or after the ark. I shouldn’t have jumped to the conclusion. So I checked out some commentary at http://www.ldolphin.org/canaan.html The author claims that Ham took sensual pleasure in seeing his father naked. Noah sensed this weakness in Ham but did not want to incriminate himself (for his drunkenness and nakedness) by cursing Ham directly. Noah sensed a more sever weakness in Canaan, so he cursed him to bear sow the continued fruits of this generational sin of sexual immorality. The site goes on to explain the immorality of the Canaanites through history, etc. Interesting that God chose that land (probably before any Canaanite ever stepped there, though) as the place His people would dwell, and His people were ordered to kill all of them because of their idolatry. God said that they had to kill them, otherwise they would be drawn away to worship their gods. This area of sin seems to be one of the most enticing for people still today. Another good point from the site, speaking to the idea of the curse to the 3rd and 4th generation (much more eloquently than I): “The curse on Canaan is the most difficult to understand because, as we suggested in an earlier question, it is hard to see why he should be cursed rather than his father, who actually did the wrong. But we note the following. First, it is a biblical principle (whether liked by us or not) that the sins of the fathers are visited on the children even to the third and fourth generations (Exod. 20:5). Second, the punishment, though inflicted on Canaan, was appropriate to Ham since he reaped exactly as he had sown. He sinned as a son and was punished in his son. Third, the assigning of the punishment to Canaan may have been (as is so often the case in God's judgments) a function of the mercy of God, who could have cursed Ham and all his descendants but instead restricted the punishment to only this fourth part, Canaan being only one of Ham's four sons. Whatever the reasoning may be, the judgment is nevertheless pronounced: "Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his brothers" (v. 25).” For another interesting interpretation, check out this site: http://bibletools.org/index.cfm/fuseaction/Library.showResource/CT/BQA/k/119 It claims that it's actually Canaan that saw Noah naked. I don't really agree w/ that... but it doesn't mean I'm not wrong. Hope this all helps in your search. GB |

5 | I understand that but why did Noah curse | Gen 9:25 | gbea | 116788
Wow, it seems harsh that Noah cursed Canaan instead of Ham, since Ham is the one who saw him naked and tried to expose it to his brothers. I don't know the answer, but I'm going to offer a couple ideas… In Gen 9:18, when it lists the sons of Noah who went forth from the ark, Canaan is the only "grandson" who is mentioned. PERHAPS while on the ark, Canaan was in some way rebellious? God was giving him the just reward of his rebellion, for God will not be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. In the Ten Commandments given to Moses on Mt. Sinai, God says in Exodus 20… 2 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3 "You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 "You shall not make for yourself a carved image -- any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. I know that these commands were not yet given, but they were clearly in the heart of God from the beginning of time, especially from the beginning of the creation of man. Jewish tradition says that the world was created in memory of the giving of Torah (first 5 books of Moses) at Sinai. Strange to think about, but it seems to at least make a good point that this Torah is in the heart of God. So, the relevant point is in verse 5 where God says that He visits the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Him. There are many different gods to choose from… there always have been. Not obeying GOD is in effect obeying some other god. Perhaps Ham’s disrespect for his father (which broke God’s not yet given (in writing) command of honoring our father and mother, so that “your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you,” vs 12)… perhaps this disrespect is what brought the curse to his children. It’d probably be difficult for Canaan to honor Ham if he was enslaved to his brothers. Since Ham dishonored his father, his son wasn’t going to honor him. It also seems that Ham did not choose to worship the LORD (YHVH) as God because Gen 9:26,27 makes it seem that only Shem and maybe Japheth served the LORD. You see the same things in families today… many children choose to serve the God of their parents, but many others choose to serve other gods (like drugs, sex, rebellion, you name it). It’s not such a new thing to rebel against parents, eh? I’m interested to see if anyone has something else. I really don’t know… just thoughts… GB |

6 | How can I deal with satan showing hiself | Bible general Archive 2 | gbea | 116748
(part #2) Jesus’ name is the name above every other name... meaning that in a hierarchy structure of authority, He is at the top. Even Satan and his emissaries are under Him. God hasn't yet taken full dominion of the earth (He's patient, drawing men to repentance and salvation... it'll be in His perfect timing). However, those who call upon the Name of the LORD shall be delivered. In JESUS' Name, you can have victory. If the Holy Spirit ever convicts you of sin, you just need to confess it and repent of it (turn from it, back onto God’s path). By repentance, you then have a “legal right” to take back any ground that the enemy has stolen. You can kick him out of your life by applying the blood of Jesus (spiritually) to every situation. Looking at the history of Israel’s exodus from Egypt on the first Passover, God had the Hebrews apply the blood of a lamb to the doorposts so that the angel of death couldn’t come in. Jesus became our Passover Lamb. By applying His blood, we can be protected. Oh, there is power in the blood!!! As your sister in Christ, I recommend that if you have another such experience follow the advice of Scripture... -Call upon the Name of the LORD JESUS! (Those who call upon the Name of the LORD shall be delivered, like that other lady said) -Submit to God, resist the Devil, and he will flee from you!! (like that other person said) Other important things you can do to prevent another such experience or at least to be prepared to deal with them if they come: -Study the Scriptures (pray that God will teach you by His Holy Spirit before you read). This is one of the best ways to get to know your God. Not studying for head knowledge (knowledge puffs up, but love edifies), but studying to get to know Your God and His plan for victory in this life! -Memorize Scripture (at least ideas, then phrases, then verses, etc); the Psalms are great to know in times of hardship! -Worship God (sing to Him, thank Him, praise Him), you can actually do this all day in your heart! -Pray and get to know Him... by faith. -Obey God and repent of your sins as He convicts by His Holy Spirit. -Most importantly, TRUST GOD! He alone is able to keep you ...and He is not only able, but willing! He loves you so very much. He didn’t send His Son to die on a cross for the fun of it… He hates sin and evil, and He loves you! You have come out of darkness and have been grafted into His Kingdom of light. He will guide you into victory if you seek Him. He’s able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or imagine!!! He sustains the universe by His word, and He knows how many hairs are on your head. He knew all your days before there was one. FUTURE: One day death will be swallowed up in victory. The LORD will be King over all the earth, and we will live in the presence of our Lord forever and ever. Thank you, Jesus, for dying for us... for being obedient unto death on that Cross. You alone are worthy to receive all honor, glory, power and praise. Help us to know, honor, trust, and obey you! May your Kingdom come, and your will be done in Shey’s life, just as it is in heaven! 7 | How to dress when attending church | Bible general Archive 2 | gbea | 116736
Wow, this is the first time I've engaged... amazing! What everyone's said is great. I've heard it's as if we all sit around a giant diamond, and no one can see our dimension, so we share w/ oneanother and get a complete picture of the diamond... and it is the Holy Spirit who teaches and opens our eyes. Anyway, I think it's important to note that man sees the outside of a man and judges him/her thus. However, the LORD GOD sees the heart, and He judges the inward (and of courses our actions). God is not a respecter of persons, nor is He impressed with nice clothes, pretty hair, and beautiful skin. God looks upon him who is contrite in heart and broken in spirit. He desires to have fellowship with us, which requires us to honor Him and not quench His HOLY Spirit. Maybe when we get dressed for "church" or any other thing, we should ask your Heavenly Father if our clothing honors Him... and if it will cause anyone else to stumble (as someone already said). If we want His honest answer, I'm convicted He'll show us. He loves us, friends. Relavent Scriptures I Peter 3.3-4 "Your adornment must not be (merely) external--braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but (let it be) the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God." Psalm 51.17 "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise." Matt 23.27 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness." I Samuel 16.7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." 1 Chronicles 28.9 "As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts..." Luke 16.15 And He said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God." |
