1 | Perseverance and the word given here? | Rom 15:5 | brothersmith | 216442
This clears up some things. Still trying to get the hang of the process of folks answering, took a few days before I had time to come back. I do not know any Greek. You seem to understand something about the language there. A visiting Pastor at our church told us that perseverance and encouragement are both adjectives in English in this verse, but not in Greek because they are nouns in this verse. Is this wrong headded thinking? |

I was taught along these lines, which is exactly why I posted. Interesting that you should say here that Perseverance and Encouragment are Gifts, which is exactly what I was taught about this verse. The idea being that the first part of the verse, although in prayer form is saying God gives us perseverance, as in a gift. Tim Moran seems to be saying that Paul is not writing right here of God specifically stating He is giving perseverance as a gift. Which is what has got me to pondering if Paul meant Endurance. I am still struggling with the concept that the Perseverance of the Saints is something God does. That being true, what exactly is this verse saying about God giving perseverance? |

3 | Perseverance and the word given here? | Rom 15:5 | brothersmith | 216440
Thank you for your input here. Help me out a bit; first clause? Somehow I do not see what you mean as I thought the first clause was verse 5 and the second clause was verse 6. Could you also tell me why your literal translation left out the word gives, as oppossed to the NASB? Romans 5, 6 Please show me how this works, perhaps I am calling it the wrong thing? Clause one - Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, Clause two - so that with one accord you may wtih one voice glorify God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
