1 | "Work out" is not "work for" | Phil 2:12 | Metochoi | 168410 | ||
An interesting study on this verse reveals that "work out" is not the same as "work for". The word translated work out (katergazomai) means to "achieve, accomplish, bring about, produce, cutivate [or] achieve" (BGD, p. 421)that is to develop. Paul was thus exhorting the Philippian believers to bring about or develop their own salvation by obedience to God, thus producing out of their freely received spiritual salvation that which is pleasing and glorifing to God. In context, Paul is calling these Philippians (Christians) We are to put our eternal salvation into practice, by producing "good works" not for salvation, but "out of" salvation. [See Eph.2:8-10] |
