Pls excuse my limited english. I should have mentioned reborn arabs rather than muslims. Perhaps the following article might help http://columns.crossmap.com/article/who-is-praying-for-the-arabs/620.htm Did you know that Jordan ( an Islamic state ) in the region allows freedom of religion? In fact one of my Pastor is going to Jordan for a 3 years mission trip. I live in an Islamic state. And when my church made an application for a new building, application was approved in 7 days. I know of one Muslim that is born again. Let's not under estimate the power of the Gospels. Instead of showing love and forgiveness, there's self righteousness in the hearts. That's the problem. |

Hi BradK, I am not sure if Yonggi Cho is teaching things that is contradictory to the bible. If he has, I would appreciate your input so that I too will approach it with caution. Why were there such revival in Korea. A Church by the hundreds of thousands members. Cult or just because he has thousandsof followers. I apologise again for my english. When I stated their book I meant the Quoran. What I meant was, Peter highlighted the contradiction in the Quoran and not he proclaiming things in contradiction to the bible. Why I think his book is worth reading? From what I heard on the cd (based on the book), it gives me an interesting view on the history of the Arabs and the Jews (old testament , Isaac and Ishmael), why the Quoran is in direct contradiction to the Bible and why there are so much hate by the Arab against Israel (Psalm 83) two thousand year ago and is still is now. Why we should pray for the Arabs so that they will receive the revelations from the Holy Spirit and like Esau ( Gods rejected one), forgives and reconcile with Jacob (Gods chosen one). i.e. reborn arabs reconciling with the Israel. Not an impossible event. |

Hi Doc, You will even be more tongue twisted trying to pronounce my last name :-) It will be very wrong of me if I do not explain Peter thesis as you put it. I must have provided a complete different meaning earlier that led you to believe that he is leaning towards the quoran. On the contrary, he had explained the scriptures in the bible and highlighted the contradiction in the Quoran and not the other way. He gave a view on why the Ishmaelites (Arab descendants), Esau who became Edoms have such hates to Israel. Why we need to pray for the Arabs and to be in God's wave of revival as it sweeps over Asia and i.e. we spread the Gospels. I live in an Islamic State, More than 65 percent of the population are Muslims. We are unlike the Middle East. We co-exist with mutual respect towards each others faiths. Although our faiths are almost opposite, we do not condemn nor do they. We have freedom of religion although there are times when one fella in the authorities might have gone overboard but it does not reflect the sentiments of the Gov. For e.g. a local authority in a remote area demolished a church built for the indigenous people because of one idiot in the local council. PM stepped in and the gov compensated for the damage done. I am surprised though that there are christians that are well versed in the Word and yet are so judgemental against someone like Cho Jonggi and all that are associated with him. From what I understand from my church (even my pastor had quoted him in some of his sermons) and other christian bodies in my country, I don't think he deserve such judgements nor should one judge being a christian in direct contradiction to the bible. |

Dear Doc, With due respect, I don't see the tolerance that you have defined is in some of the postings here that came from the States. Before I accepted the Lord, I too was taken aback when I was told that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. Then, I thought it to be arrogance. But these words took a different meaning when I was later surrounded by christians that showed love, concern, acceptance, tolerance to my unbeliefs then. That led me to seek the Word and with their guidance and encouragements, the Bible took on a total different meaning. What I am trying to say is, we do not win souls by thrusting the Word of God to an unbeliever and say the Bible is the Truth. Rather, one would be more successful if one show love and affection and that includes tolerance first before sharing the Gospels. I came to the Lord this way, thanks to my home group members. Likewise I am doing the same to other new members. Afterall isn't it one of the greatest commandments of all "love your neighbour as you love yourself." As Martin Luther King Jr once said " Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend" I once told you that I seldom make a post because I felt inadequate to do so probably due to my lack of knowledge of the scriptures. Comparing to the way you post answers and some others, can you see a difference in the way they do? Such hostilities in the name of the Truth. Anyway, this is a bible study forum and I have gone way of course. I'm sorry. God Bless. |

6 | Why children as well? | Bible general Archive 2 | ngkh | 104693
Thanks again very much. I was put on this question which I could not answer by a non christian. After some searching and studies thru the bible, and your comments, I should conclude as per Proverbs 3:5-6 " Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your path." shouldn't I ? God Bless |

Dear Edb, Following your earlier notes on abortions ( if I understand correctly), is it not the same as children being unable to fend for themselves as you put earlier and to have them unborn is an act of mercy. If a mother knows that she is unable to support the child and will be heavily burderned or she is a teen and was an unfortunate raped victim, will abortion be an act of mercy in this case? Another thought about we always blame God for some unfortunate events. I had a church member baptized on 24th, became a member of the church on the 26th but died on the 28th leaving a housewife and two very young children. I dread to think how the family will go on with the sole bread earner gone. I know that I'm suppose to trust Him whatever events took place but does this not create a question mark on why he had to go especially so soon after receiving salvation ? |

I apologise for the confusion there. Anyway, in my part of the world, adoption is a very slow and lengthy process (lots of red tapes) so much that it discourages adoption and that we have a lot of abandoned children in homes set up by religious establishments be it Christians, Muslims and Buddhists and are normally supported by charity. Gov assistance in my opinion is really pathetic and they are generally dependant on the charity of the public. Most of the homes are in quite poor state . That's why I thought that by having a children and then ending in these homes is not going to help them much either. Lucky ones get to go to these homes. There are also many that end up in the streets. Just my 2 cents worth. |

10 | Which book in the Bible do I commence | Bible general Archive 2 | ngkh | 141373
Thank you for replying. I have NKJV Study bible, NKJV small bible and NIV bible on my PDA. Also whole series of audio NIV bible in CD for listening in the car. I am totaly lost IN KJV. I don't think its the version that mattered except for KJV but I find OT forgive my expression "very dry" then like Tolkins LOTR. I'm not the reading type and because I was also new then. Did not understand the historical events as well as the value of scriptures then. Was told to read it like a story book, I was advised. So instead of reading the bible, I listen to them in the car. I spent at least 2 hrs a day driving so its a very good oportunity for my so called "quiet time" and use my PDA whenever I have the oportunity to continue when I'm not in the car. I'm not sure that is good and I don't want to recommend what I do to new believers. |

When I first started to attend my cell group meetings, I did the latter part of Experiencing God as the cell had started the study sometime before I joined them. Of course I was not very keen then for I was searching about who is this God rather than what I should do to experience God. Anyway, as time past, one day my Pastor recommended Rick Warren's book and suddenly the whole church was talking about the book and arrangements were made that we may purchase the book at a discount. Then we were suppose to do the program in the cell groups meetings. My cell leader was also fortunate that we were able to get our hands not only the book but also a teaching video CD of Pastor Rick and workbook as well. We went through the course. At the same time I was also reading "Foundation for righteous living" by Derek Prince. As for me, I believed I grew more ( in the sense of the word) with Pastor Prince's book than the other two books and exercises. Pastor Prince in that book helped me to believe by faith. I believe I understood grace. I believed that the holy spirit is in me guiding my every move. So, why am I so concerned about what I need to do to experience God or to do what's of God's purpose. If God wants me to do something, I will be led to it and I will know if I'm being led cos' many times, situations just arised that I will be doing God's work or asked to help out the church without much thoughts or expectations eventhough I'm very new to the church then. It just come. I found that the exercises in Experiencing God were more of getting me to remember bible verses. As for Pastor Rick's contents I thought they were rather "works" especially if we were to do the exercises of the "question to consider" at the end of every chapter. It comes back to the same question of "do we work for our salvation? If we follow the two books, I think these books tell us to "work". Worse is when we try to do exactly what was written, we may turn out a tired, disillusioned and totally burnt out christian. I may be wrong but I believed that what I need to do is to 1st believe, then love and be loved, fellowship with God, learn and understand the Word and He will do the rest. What I will get, what He wants me to do, the holy spirit will let me know in His "timming". Not that I did not benefit from the two books. I think there were too much hype over them. Just my thoughts. God Bless. |

Greetings EdB, I am not saying the books are no good. On the contrary, I admitted that I learned quite a bit going thru the books. But then again, if we look at John 6:44-47 44“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day. 45It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God. Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me. 46No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. 47I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life. So if God does not want me, no matter how hard I try, I will not go to Him but because he wants all of us, we will be taught and raised by Him ( perhaps in ways that I do not even comprehend). I believe that I am growing at His leisure. I do not feel the need to this and that to seek His favor. Except for a few things like tithes and services to the church which are either biblically stated or when I sensed that God wants me to MOVE! I move. If I am going to do everything the books tells me and every book that I read, would it no longer be a chore instead. For e.g. Purpose Driven. Were we not set 40 days to do what Pastor Rick wants us to do? There is a timetable. Now if I am a very gungho person, reading Purpose and Experiencing God together. I must do this and that. Where is the enjoyment of being loved. We lose the whole essence of God's Love. Seek 1st the Kingdom of God and things shall be added to you. He did not say when and how but He will. He did not say you must do this and that and then things shall be added you. He will guide me at His own pace. No need to cramp all the things during the tenure of reading a book. All we need is to believe, to understand that we are already loved. After having gone through about 2 thirds of bible ( have yet to complete cover to cover) I already sensed His love. Faith comes by hearing and not works. Roman 10:17 17Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. Another e.g is prayer. I don't know about US but here, we tend to start the prayer with thanks and then pow! - all our petitions. Its commonly shared that when we ask, ask and ask, He will answer. What if He does not? Then we will say oh, because you did not do enough that's why, your prayers are not answered. Wrong? but that's what is happening here. Yes, I do sacrifice and seek the Kingdom of God but to sacrifice all? How far will you go? Will you like Abraham sacrifice your kids? If we do, we have totally negate what Christ had done i.e. to put himself up as a sacrificial lamb FOR us. Mark 12:28-34 28One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.[e] 30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[f] 31The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[g]There is no commandment greater than these.” 32“Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. 33To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.” 34When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions. I do not feel the need to memorize the scriptures. All I need is to know is what it is about . Where it is, I can always find with today's technology. Search engine. All provided by God! God Bless. |

Hi, Perhaps I phrased it wrongly. I know the scriptures or at least some of it. If not, I would not have been able share the scriptures to back my understanding. That did not come by trying to memorize by hard. That came from understanding them. Just that I do not memorize to quote which book which chapter which verse number the scriptures comes from. That I relied on search engine. |

Ephisians 2: 8-10 8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. When we abide in Him, we will do good works and not try to do good works so that we will abide in Him. If I am wrong in understanding these verses, please let me know. |

Hi, I am attending cell group meetings, I listen to my audio bible as much as I can, I listen to past sermons not only from my church but others as well (thanks to the internet) I participate in church ministries when I am called upon. Thus, I am NOT doing nothing and let God make it happen. God have made me work for His purpose as well. Ephisians 2:8-10 I also have a far longer christian friend than me that who have decks of christian books but never got to know God as he should and have since backslided disillusioned and worn out. I agree many have also sat thru waiting but do they really know why God is not moving them. Have they surrendered in faith in the 1st place? What I am trying to share is be careful that you do not try too hard too fast too much. He will show the way in His own ways and timing. I did not diligently follow the exercises of the two books and yet, I don't think I am stagnant in my growth. I am fed and shaped left ,right ,centre - His ways. I am also blessed when He made me quit smoking after 25 years just outside church grounds. His way, His timing. When I meant not memorizing scriptures, I meant not having to quote the book, chapter and verse number. I know some verses but that's not because I have memorized them but rather undestood them. If not, I won't be able to quote verses (using search engine to get the book, chapter and verse number) to support my sharing. I will still read books whenever I can. Just read with pinches of salt. God Bless |

Hi Doc, No it is not dangerous. Although my country is considered an Islamic state, our constitution gave us freedom of religion and our Government is quite liberal. We are so multi cultural, multi race and multi faiths but we do respect each others faiths. We even have public holidays to recognise the different main faiths e.g Muslim, Buddhist, Hindus and Christians and we celebrate together by having open houses (invitations to friends of other faiths). Although we have certain restrictions due to the sensitivity nature but we are very much on a peaceful coexistence. I would say we are quite fortunate in certain sense compared to other Islamic States. In fact my church which just celebrated 10 years started with only 15 and now we have about 1500 in our congregation. As for cell groups, it is a group of members we called cell leaders (trained and appointed by Pastor), who is wiiling to sacrificed their time and open their home for some 10-20 other members for a weekday meeting in the evening. We will have worships, testimony sharing, verse of the week sharing, bible study( for e.g. we did Experiencing God and Purpose Drivem Life), prayers and finally fellowship. All cell meetings are minuted. So my church have many cells. Each cell leader will report to a zone leader who then reports to Pastor. (minutes are taken at every cell meeting) So my Pastor from these minutes knows who we are, how we are doing, problems that we are facing, etc. I was very surprised that in the begining when I just started to attend my church, my Pastor can address me by name when we first talk. He already knew who I am among the 1500 of his sheep. In fact I was first invited to cell before I was born again. With the help and loving and understanding of the other members of the cell (core members), I began my walk with the Lord and I was a difficult customer. God proved that He is in control in my initial skeptism about christianity but that is another story. Anyway, all members and visitors to church are encouraged to attend a cell group meeting. I like it cos, we now have an extended family whom we can share our joy, our problems, our feeding, prayers for fellow cell members, even ministering to each other and assistance when necessary. It all about the love for fellow brothers and sisters that makes us one. Perhaps if you like, you are invited to our website which is undergoing some reconstruction but most of the pages are up. www.sibkl.org.my God Bless, John |

Hi Kalos, If it is any help, my Pastor encouraged memorization of scriptures too. We have bible verses competition too. My point is that for memorising the scripture without understanding is as good as not knowing at all. What is the use of me quoting Matthew 6:5 for e.g. when I don't understand what it means. How many verses titles can I remember? Would it not be easier to know the scriptures by its contents than to try to remember which book, which chapter, which verse. As for me, I listen to a CD called Breathe of God which is full of scriptures. No mentioned of where the scriptures came from. Just scriptures after scriptures. Does that mean that I'm getting wrong feeding just because there are no title mentioned. For me, i.e. me alone, I find that I learn and understand the Word far better this way than if I try to remember the title as well. Constant hearing the scriptures, embed scriptures in my head. Don't need to know where it came from for they are all from God. If I need to dwell further, concordence or my search engine will still get me to where I wanted. Of course it would be nice to quote titles to support a claim. I have been able to do that too. But I still need to know what to search for to get the title, don't I? Even my PDA bible have search capabilities. How can I remember the scriptures when I don't read. My secret is listening to CDs. I spend at least 2 hrs a day in the car. What better time to have a quiet time listening to an audio bible or sermon when you are sitting in a traffic jam. This are just my experiences. It is not suppose to be an alternate means but fact is it worked for me and I am still growing. Cheers |
