Thanks for the welcome. I, personally, do read the NIV, now. It helps me understand in today's language, without getting lost in the language structure of the early 17th century. However, I do miss the KJV(AV) and all of the "shall not's, Thou's, wherefore's", etc. I read and compare between the NIV, KJV(AV), and the paraphrased NASB. I'm looking forward to getting another version (a real book, not off of the web) and reading it thru. Reading a different version each year might be a really good ambition for some people. Hmmm, I think I'll bring that up in my Sunday School Class this comming week. We're going to try and get a group together to read it in a year, and a different translation might add some extra insite not already gained. I might add, that unless you understand the original language that the particular book was written in, they're all translations. Each and every one of them! I don't understand Greek, or Hebrew, or any language other than English. I do feel however that God's hand has guided the pens (minds) of the translators, all of them. Each version does it's own good and will reach a group of people to be saved. Amen. Russ |

I missed up... For Paraphrased I meant the New Living Letters, for conventional I meant the NASB. I mistyped and mis-proofread. I knew what I wanted to say, It just didn't come out that way. I humbly appologize. My God bless. Russ |

3 | Is Gambling Wrong? | Bible general Archive 2 | kw5kw | 140730
Lot’s, as gambling was called in the Bible, is mentioned 24 times using a Strong’s Search at Blueletterbible.org. Without listing all of them, but here are but a few: Lev 16:8 And Aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats; one lot for the LORD, and the other lot for the scapegoat. Jos 18:6 Ye shall therefore describe the land [into] seven parts, and bring [the description] hither to me, that I may cast lots for you here before the LORD our God. Neh 10:34 And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring [it] into the house of our God, after the houses of our fathers, at times appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of the LORD our God, as [it is] written in the law: Psa 22:18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. Mat 27:35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. Mar 15:24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take. Luk 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. Jhn 19:24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. and finally the deciples cast their own lots to decide who the replacement for Judas was to be: Act 1:26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles. The casting of lots is indeed Biblical, and not frowned upon by God. Habitual gambling however, is, as it can come between you and your Lord. Even I enjoy playing a game of cards myself here and there, but, I do not put playing a game above my Lord. Any game, chess, checkers, cards, dice, doesn't matter, if you don't know the outcome beforehand is essentially a gamble after all. My original thoughts. Russ |

Brother Tim, Of course, statues are all over. Idols are objects of worship. You can have a statue of Jesus, if you don't worship the statue then it's ok. But, once you start worshiping the statue, it becomes an idol. You worship Jesus our Lord the Christ, not the statue of Jesus. It can't do anything for you. Russ |

5 | Saved by belief or belief and baptism? | NT general Archive 1 | kw5kw | 143584
I see it this way... wisdom is to knowledge as faith is to belief... You can know rocket science, but if you don't have the wisdom on how to apply that knowledge, then your rocket blows up. Proverbs 1:4 for giving prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the young -- 5 let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance 6 for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise. 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge but fools despise wisdom and discipline. ... 29 since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord, 30 since they would not accept my advise and spurned my rebuke, 31 they will eat the fruit fo their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes. Proverbs 2:6 for the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. ... 10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasent to your soul. 11 Discretion will protect you and understanding will guard you. 12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men... Proverbs 3:13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding. Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice. NIV You can believe in the Bible, you can see it, you can touch it, you can read it. But, in order to be saved you must have faith in Jesus. Have faith that he died on the cross for your salvation. Faith in the Blood of Christ for redemption. For instance... Did Able beleive in God? You bet he did, but Abel by faith offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. Hebrews 11:4 Did Noah beleive in God? You bet he did, but he had faith to beleive what God told him and build the ark (Genesis 6 thru 9) and therefore saving himself and his family from the flood. Did Abraham beleive in God? You bet he did, but he had faith that God would supply a sacrifice in place of his only son Isaac. (Genesis 22) Did Shadrack, Meshach and Abednego beleive in God? You bet they did, but they had faith in God and therefore they escaped the firey furnace. (Daniel 3) And there are many many more examples in the bible. Job, David vs. Goliath, Daniel in the lions den. The centurion's faith that Jesus would heal his son (Matthew 8:5-13). The list goes on and on and on. You can beleive in a lot of things, but you must have faith in God in order to be fully saved. |

Greetings Kalos Deuteronomy 32:51 This is because both of you broke faith with me in the presence of the Israelites at the waters of Meribah Kadesh in the Desert of Zin and because you did not uphold my holiness among the Israelites. 1 Samuel 14:33 Then someone said to Saul, "Look, the men are sinning against the LORD by eating meat that has blood in it." "You have broken faith," he said. "Roll a large stone over here at once." 2 Chronicles 20:20 Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful." Isaiah 26:2 Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. Habakkuk 2:4 "See, he is puffed up; his desires are not upright- but the righteous will live by his faith Malachi 2:16 "I hate divorce," says the LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himself [ Or his wife ] with violence as well as with his garment," says the LORD Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith. Matthew 8:10 When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, “I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. Matthew 8:26 He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. Matthew 9:2 Some men brought to him a paralytic, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.” Matthew 9:22 Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment. Matthew 9:29 Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you”; Matthew 14:31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 17:20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” [ Some manuscripts you. 21 But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.] Mark 2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Mark 4:40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 5:34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.” Mark 11:22 “Have [ Some early manuscripts If you have] faith in God,” Jesus answered. Mark 16:14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. Luke 5:20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” Luke 17:5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” John 12:11 for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and putting their faith in him. |

9 | what does it means sons of God here ? | Gen 6:2 | kw5kw | 182845
First I wish to refreshen our memories upon proper doctrine: In Matthew (xxii:23-33 ), Mark (xii:18-27 ) and Luke (xx:27-40 ) we find Jesus teaching the Sadducees this: Right now all of us are mortal human beings and we are the children of this world; we marry, and are given in marriage. We do this so that we might produce children so that we might be able to carry on the human race. But those of us to whom it will be accounted worthy that they will be able to obtain that world that is beyond; i.e.: those who will be allowed into the Kingdom of Heaven, they will be resurrected from the dead. And once in heaven we will then be equal to the angels in heaven and we will all no longer be simple, mortal, human beings because we will have then become the true Children of God. Once that happens there will no longer a need to marry nor will anyone be given in marriage. Remember that once we’re in heaven we will not be able to die any more. And because of this there will then no longer be a need for producing children. All of the inhabitants of heaven will have been accounted for by then (the resurrection), therefore there will be no need for new additions. With this teaching we also see and understand that the angels do not have the need to produce children either. Therefore we can conclude that since they don't have the need to produce children they also don't have the "equipment" necessary to produce children. It's the Creator who does the creating, nothing else! Why go into the New Testament to answer a question centered in the Old Testament? Simple, it's to create the necessary foundation to prove that the sons of men that are mentioned in Genesis vi:2 are not fallen angels. This is a false teaching that comes from an extra-Biblical book called the book of Enoch where in Chapter seven of this book the author describes that there were two hundred angels that managed to descend to earth . That they took human women who bore giants who were some three hundred cubits in size! (Which was entire length of the arc! ) It’s obvious to me why the book of Enoch is not canonical in the Judeo-Christian world outside of Ethiopia. The sons of God that are mentioned in Genesis vi:2 are actually the sons of Seth who was the son of the creation of God: Adam. Seth followed in Abel’s footsteps and was pleasing to God, therefore his descendents became the sons of God that are mentioned here. The sons of God once again could not be that of fallen angels because then they would be called something besides the sons of God for God disowned Satan and his followers, casting them down in their spiritual bodies and not allowing them to have any type of creative powers. They always have been and always will continue to be spiritual beings. To say that they could have had creative powers and manifest themselves as able to become human then it would be possible for them to have deceived mankind as Jesus either in the original incarnation or in the resurrection. That would make our belief in Jesus questionable and kill Christianity before it was started. The daughters of men listed in this same verse of Genesis would then be the descendents of fallen man, i.e.: Cain. The union of these wicked women over came the goodness of the men and their offspring became large men—larger than most and they became known as giants because they were indeed larger and stronger than most men. It was this race of antediluvian mankind that God wiped from the face of the earth. Here are my notes: the text for Matthew xxii:23-33, Mark xii:18-27 and Luke xx:27-40 was deleted because of length issues in this forum. http://www.johnpratt.com/items/docs/enoch.html The Book of Enoch translated from Ethiopic by Richard Laurence, London, 1883. The book of Enoch is considered canonical in Ethiopia. Enoch7:7 Then they swore all together, and all bound themselves by mutual execrations. Their whole number was two hundred, who descended upon Ardis, which is the top of mount Armon. Enoch7:10-12 Then they took wives, each choosing for himself; whom they began to approach, and with whom they cohabited; teaching them sorcery, incantations, and the dividing of roots and trees. And the women conceiving brought forth giants, Whose stature was each three hundred cubits. These devoured all which the labor of men produced; until it became impossible to feed them; (see the next footnote) Genesis vi:15 ... The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, ... 11 | Therefore get wisdom, (what is it?) | Prov 1:7 | kw5kw | 147319
Wisdom is God. God living inside you gives you wisdom. How does God live inside you... the Holy Spirit. Follow this for a minute. Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. and Pro 8:22 The LORD possessed me [wisdom(from verse 1 in this chapter)] in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. Pro 8:23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. Wisdom is the Word which is Jesus which is The Spirit of God (Holy Spirit) which is God. |

question everything by scripture, that's what we are taught. However, having a near death expierence myself, I can be very understanding as I understand. I've been there. I share my expierences, and have been met with dis-belief and scorn as well. I understand the hurt that your are being felt by these haughty people who are puffed up on their own pride, for they haven't felt their 'skolops' in their side like I have. Peace be with you Bows44 and hopefully you'll beable to influence many with your testamony, for if we're not to tell of our testamony why are we to be witnesses to the greatest testamony of all, the gospel. And why this isn't found in scripture... "If the shoe fits, wear it." Your brother in Christ. |

13 | At what moment do we go to heaven? | Eccl 12:7 | kw5kw | 155661
A bit more... I've been met with more dis-belief and scorn from church going, supposably Bible-reading Christians than I have met from unbelievers. Unbelivers listen, and want to understand. It helps them understand that there is indeed a God, that He is indeed very real and is there for US! Why can't so-called Christians, who are supposed to have knowledge of such things, understand? Could it be that Satan, while setting on their shoulder, whispers in their ear; "You don't believe that, here's scripture that says you shouldn't..." Could that be possible? I say it is. What I say is scriptural... check it out... test it for yourself... test everything. 2Co 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. That Satan makes you think that he is of God, and his little whispers make the belivers dis-believe testamony. Joh 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. Satan will bend anyone's ear to some facts and away from others. Satan knows the scriptures and how to used them. He knows the hows and whys to point many away from the truths. Just enough away to make it look bad. So you must test everything for your own... Test what I'm typing. Know this test this: Jesus is the Son of God, who was born of a virgin, who lived as flesh on the earth, who died for our sins, shed His blood for the redemption and our salvation. An evil spirit can't write (say)((type)) that: 1Jo4:1-3 |

Greetings Brother Tim. I see that you're a pastor. How do you preach? Do you give illustrations? Do you solicit testamony from those in your congregration? Go they go like this? I was a disbeliver, I was lead to read the Bible, I'm saved. Thank God What led them to read the Holy Word of our LORD? Somebody had to witness to them, to bring them the grandest testamony of all times, the NEW Testament. My testamony is that God did save me. Jesus did indeed push me back, and that by testing not only what I say but how I say it by scripture, knowing 1JO4:1-4 when I say that Jesus is the Son of God in the Flesh, do they say that on these television shows that you mention on the SiFi? No that's all SiFi. Unbelivers are HUNGRY for something. I was starving. God came to me, I didn't go to Him, He knew I was hungry. He told me that I was His, that He loved me. I'm no longer hungry. The Holy Spirit dwells in me. He guides me. Just as the Bible says, it's true. When I go to church, my pastor gives a few samples of scripture, then he speaks a sermon. When I read Spurgeon, one scriputre is listed at the front by Book, chapter, verse. There are many others in there, but just not listed by book, chapter, verse just quoted. I feel, that if you are indeed a servant of the LORD GOD, then you will recognize my passages without me posting them all for you. I recognize them when I read them in my Spurgeon, I can look them up, I can test them. When I post, some of my posts are nothing but scripture, but would you preach a sermon from nothing but quotes out of the scriptures. I just think that people get a bit puffed up and hughty on these forums, thinking that every word is/should be a quote out of the holy Word. I know that GOD is a living God. That He speaks to us today. While the cannon of Scripture is sealed, His work is not done. Russ |

Thank you for the speedy reply brother Tim, and if I offended i surly apologize, for that was not my intent. I was 10-10ing... from 1Co 10:10 "And do not grumble..." After reading this forum for a while and seeing all of the post about not posting scripture, well, I am sorry, I had to post, and this was the first post for me here in some time. Seems that every time I post something here, I get flamed. Here I go 10-10ing again. Sorry, you just happened to answer. I humbly beg your forgiveness and that of the fourm in general. I will say this, until one experiences something, one can not honestly comment on it. I've never riden on the Space Shuttle, but I have talked to it. I can tell you what that is like to talk to the shuttle, but I can't tell you what it is like to ride the shuttle. All I can do is marvle at what it might be like to take that ride. Unless you've talked to the shuttle you can marvle that I've talked to them. But it's as valid an illustration as I can come up with at the spare of the moment. I will also assume that you've never ridden the shuttle as well. I have talked to Jesus, I can tell you about that. I have taken a short ride with Jesus, I can tell you about that. All you can do is marvle at my talking to the space shuttle, riding on the space shuttle, my converstaion with Jesus and my short ride with Him. Does that make me better than you ... NO absolutely not, for we're all the same in Christ. I can however, share my expierence with you just as Paul shares his expierence with us in the books that he left us... The books we call the New Testament. I've not only marvle at Paul, but can understand 2co12. I understand the 'skolops' that he is refering to. You know that is the only time that 'skolops' is refered to in the NT. I hope you understand my illustration. I am your brother in Christ. Russ |

Greetings Steve. Unbelivers can range from: DON'T EVEN TALK TO ME ABOUT GOD! to Please tell me more. My brother-in-law... does not wish to see me anymore because he's so afraid that I'll even mention the "G" word to him. My son-in-law... never been to church, swears he never will. I am going to tread gently in my witnessing to him. My other daughter, however, is soaking all she can in about God. Funny thing, the daughter who is married to the one who has never been to chruch is the one who's been saved. My older daughter hasn't been saved and she's soaking it up. Go figure. Each person is different, Steve, I know a guy who used dope every day for 20 PLUS years, he now professes to be a beliver in God... praise the LORD! Do I stand on the street corner giving my testamony, not yet, maybe I should... :) I actually have found that so-called Christians are far more critical, however, of things that they don't belive in, such as: taboo subject here A Vs. C... or CoC Vs. everyone else on baptism saves. We argue amongst ourselves much more than we argue against anything else. To me that is sad! Russ |

Greetings Tim: Just to let you know, My user id: kw5kw is an amateur radio call sign. Using amateur radio, I have indeed talked to the space shuttle. As a matter of fact, both the shuttle and I were using what we call a hand held unit that only transmits a maximum of 5 watts, but that was all that was necessary since it was line of sight. However, the truth is, I have indeed talked to the space shuttle. Not this last one, it has been several years ago now, but once is enough to make it true. Good tidings to you Tim, Russ |

No, strictly computed and actually was scheduled into their flight plan that time. It was coordinated via AMSAT and Kieth Pugh, W5IU and Donna (forget her last name) N5WOE so that they students at one of our local elementary schools could gain some experience with both science and amateur radio. We did not get individual QSL cards, but we did get a nice write up in the Star-Telegram for the event. Check AMSAT.org for other such activities. Amateur radio has many satellites used for communications, and the shuttle (used to anyway) was routeinly used to give school students the expierence. And as for tracking, you can track almost any satellite anywhere anytime if you have the programs. I've let this area of my life lapse quite a bit, so I'm a bit rusty on the pages, but amsat.org should have the links necessary. So this expierence is just as real as it can be! Russ |
