Hi Makarios Your statement about Erasmus sounds as though he is not to be trusted. Therefore, would you be so kind as to provide a brief synopsis concerning the difference between these two translations. I have provided sort of a parallel to make it easier.:-) KJV The Revelation 22:15-21 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. NAS 15 Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying. KJV 16 I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. NASB 16 "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star." KJV 17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. NAS 17 The Spirit and the bride say, "Come " And let the one who hears say, "Come " And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost. KJV 18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: NAS 18 I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book; KJV 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. NAS 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book. KJV 20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. NAS 20 He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming quickly " Amen Come, Lord Jesus. KJV 21 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. NAS 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen. Vintage68 |

4 | what does the bible say about widows? | Ex 22:22 | Vintage68 | 217609 | ||
Hi Makarios When you say "Unmarried widows can be married again "- 1 Cor. 7:8-9; 1 Tim. 5:14 Isn't that a given, a widow would be unmarried wouldn't she? Isn't the following the criteria for determining who a widow is? brackets are mine. 1 Tim. 5:9,10,11 9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, (having been the wife of one man), 10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. 11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; Blessings to you Vintage68 |

Hi John, From your statements, 1 "I'll bet that priest was one man who was very relieved that Luther had embraced his theology of righteousness through faith and not works, like, twenty-five trips to the confessional" 2 "Putting aside our tendency to externally legalize our walk with God," Are you inferring that Luther (stopped going to confession), when he embraced the theology of righteousness through faith, and not works? Are you saying also, that confession is our tendency to externally legalize our walk with God? Vintage68 |

Hi dwilliamson, Thank you for the response, it is much appreciated. (actually Ireland is a bit ahead of us guys). About 5 hrs. In relation to your thoughts. "When we sin against our Father we are out of communion and need to be forgiven and restored to that communion, but our Union with Him as being in His Family is never broken." How does 1 John 3 - - and - - Hebrews 6:4 fit? I understand what your saying, and would like to agree with it, because it sounds right. But where is the scripture that says such a thing? Vintage68 |

Hi Doc I asked the question, looking for an honest answer. If you feel as though I was leading the exegesis into a direction, then I humbly apologize for any misunderstanding you may have had. The question, as stated originally, then amended for clarification, I will attempt to put into a perspective that would not give you any more problems, as far as to the intent of the question. I have from time to time, on this Forum, seen posts that say things like, "There are sins that I commit over, and over again, but I always make it a point to confess my sins, in my nightly prayers, before I go to sleep." Have these Christians then not deviated from the faith? So the question arose. If a Christian believing they are saved by Grace, and also believing in the doctrine of "once saved always saved", then confessing to having sin in their lives, whereby they confess, asking forgiveness for those sins committed on a daily basis. "What would happen to these Christians if they died, before they could confess those sins?" Is that not a legitimate question? I for one cannot understand how these things can be. As you have so aptly stated., "How fearful it must be to contemplate each night that one may have neglected to confess some sin or another." But you on the other hand have apparently reconciled this question, where upon you have made the following statement. "Repentance is continually manifested in the life of one who is regenerate." Could you direct me as to the place, or places in scripture where this teaching can be found? Vintage68 |

Hi Lionheart un, a prefix freely used in English to form verbs expressing a reversal of some action or state, or removal, deprivation, release, etc. or to intensify the force of a verb already having such a meaning. repented, To feel remorse, contrition, or self-reproach for what one has done, be contrite. To feel such regret for past conduct as to change one's mind regarding it: To make a change for the better as a result of remorse or contrition for one's sins. To feel regret or self-reproach for: repent one's sins. OK it isn't a word, but it should be:-) I would then say. If Christians die with un-confessed sin, not having expressed their remorse for said sin, how will they be judged? A Christian commits a sin in the morning, then another sin at noon, but before they could confess these sins,asking for forgiveness, when they say their nightly prayers they die. Vintage68 |

Hi MJH Thank you for your answer. Your answers to the ( 3 ) questions I asked, did give a clear understanding, even without any scripture references. I fully understand what you were saying. The thrust of these questions, were to see if it could be determined from the whole canon of scripture, wether or not there was a Spiritual difference as far as sin was concerned, between the Jews' as a people, when they were in Egypt, and the people the Jews' called Gentiles, after they had received the Law, and inherited the Land promised to Abraham. My query was wether or not "all men" were only under the Law of Sin and Death, inherited from Adam. I personally don't believe there is any definitive verse, or verses that give the answer, that's why I asked the questions the way I did. It would come to more of an educated school, of thought, understanding, and knowledge of the scriptures, rather than just a pat answer out of some one's commentary, or doctrine. Thanks again Vintage68 |

Part 2 of 2 Matthew 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, Or fat, become stupid and sottish, and without understanding; and so incapable of taking in the true sense and meaning of what they saw with their eyes, and heard with their ears; for they had their outward senses of hearing and seeing, and yet their intellectual powers were stupefied. And their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; which is expressive of the blindness and hardness, which were partly brought upon themselves by their own wilfulness and obstinacy, against such clear evidence as arose from the doctrine and miracles of Christ; and partly from the righteous judgment of God, giving them up, for their perverseness, to judicial blindness and obduracy; John 12:40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. and are in the prophet ascribed to the ministry of the word; that being despised, was in righteous judgment, the savour of death unto death, unto them; and they under it, as clay, under the influence of the sun, grew harder and harder by it, stopping their ears, and shutting their eyes against it: lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart: Which may be understood either of God's intention, and view, in giving them up to judicial blindness, and hardness of heart, under such miracles, and such a ministry, as a punishment for their wilful contempt of them; that so they might never have any true sight, hearing, and understanding of these things, and be turned from the evil of their ways, have repentance unto life, and remission of sins; which seems to be the sense of the other evangelists, (Mark 4:12) That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them. (Luke 8:10) And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. (John 12:40) 40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. or, as if these people purposely stupefied themselves, stopped their ears, and pulled away the shoulder, and wilfully shut their eyes; fearing they should receive some conviction, light, and knowledge, and be converted by the power and grace of God: and I should heal them; or, as in Mark, " and their sins should be forgiven them"; for healing of diseases, and forgiveness of sins, are, in Scripture language, one and the same thing; and this sense of the phrase here, is justified by the Chaldee paraphrase, which renders it, (Nwhl qbtvyw) , "and they be forgiven", or "it be forgiven them", and by a Jewish commentator on the place; who interprets healing, of the healing of the soul, and adds (hxyloh ayhw) , "and this is pardon"- - - www.searchgodsword.org Vintage68 |

Hi John Thought you might like a good read. Part 1 of 2 Matthew 13:14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias… In (Isaiah 6:9,10) which saith, which runs, or may be read thus, by hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand, and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive. The words are a prophecy concerning the people of the Jews, which began to be accomplished in the times of Isaiah; and were again fulfilled in the times of some after prophets; and had been in part fulfilled under the more plain and easy ministry of Christ; and was to have a further accomplishment under this parabolical way of preaching; as it also was to have, and had, a yet further completion under the ministry of the apostles; (Acts 28:26-28) 26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: 27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. 28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it. Romans 11:7,8) 7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded 8 (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day. and the judicial blindness here predicted was to go on among them, until the land of Judea was utterly destroyed by the Romans, and the cities and houses thereof left without any inhabitants; all which accordingly came to pass: for that this prophecy refers to the times of the Messiah, and to the people of the Jews, is clear from this one observation made by Christ himself, that Esaias foretold those things when he saw the glory of the Messiah, and spake of him, John 12:39-41) 39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, 40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. 41 These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him. and because it was to have, and had, its accomplishment over and over again in that people, therefore the word (anaplhroutai) , which may be rendered "is fulfilled again", is made use of. The sense of the prophecy is, with respect to the times of the Messiah, that the Jews, whilst hearing the sermons preached by him, whether with, or without parables, should hear his voice, and the sound of it, but not understand his words internally, spiritually, and experimentally; and whilst they saw, with the eyes of their bodies, the miracles he wrought, they should see the facts done, which could not be denied and gainsayed by them, but should not take in the clear evidence, full proof, and certain demonstration given thereby, of his Messiahship. In the prophecy of Isaiah, the words run in the imperative, "hear ye, see ye"… but are here rendered in the future, "shall hear, shall see"… which rendering of the words is supported and established by the version of the Septuagint, by the Chaldee paraphrase, and by many Jewish commentators; who allow, that the words in Isaiah may be so understood, which is sufficient to vindicate the citation of them, by the evangelist, in this form of them. Hi John I concur with you 100 per. cent. when you say, "Plenty of folks today can read the same word of God and not see though they see and not hear though we can read it to them. Most of the world at large is spiritually blind and deaf to God's word as we speak." But when you say this, your just wrong. "The Scriptures do not say it was only for that generation, but I think common sense would dictate only that it applied to them at that time." Mat 13:14,15 14 ( And ( in them ) is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, ) which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: 15 ( For ( this peoples ) heart is waxed gross, ) and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. When Jesus himself says in them the prophesy is fulfilled, and this peoples heart is waxed gross. There is no mistaking who Jesus is talking about, it isn't a piece of scripture that is given to interpretation, it says what it says.This was the beginning point of the blindness of the Jews, towards the Gospel, Paul says. Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. The rendering only apply's to the Jews. They as a people cannot come to the knowledge of the truth, every other nation could if it wanted to. People in general are blind as you say, but GOD has blinded the Jews. Vintage68 |

Hi Tenmakk You say "He has a "but" for each of these that indicates to me that he is correcting the Old Testament passages, or changing them, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you." Jesus didn't change or nullify anything contained in the law. He fulfilled it, He was showing by example a better way, His way, the New covenant way. His example to us was, everything He did was motivated by LOVE. Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. He came to earth because of LOVE, He lived a life of LOVE, He died for our sins out of LOVE. His example was we are to treat others, as we would be treated. We are to walk in love. Rom 7:1-4 1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? 2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. 4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. Your fruit comes by walking in love. To put it simply, can you think of a way you could take someone's eye, out of love for them? Vintage68 |

Hi John you say Though not all Scripture is written to us, and words spokin are not all spoken to us, it is all still for us. 2 Tim 3:16 "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;" You seem to have a full understanding of Matt.13:14,15 . Please, apply 2 Tim. 3:16. Just how can these verses concern us, other than knowing, "That Generation" were blinded, as Prophesied in Isaiah? Vintage68 |

Hi rakpak How do your statements answer the questions I asked? These are the questions. 1.) By what measure were the Gentiles, deemed to be sinners? 2.) Were the Jews' different than the gentiles, before they received the law by Moses? 3.) By what law were the gentiles held to be sinners? Was it only by the law of sin, and death, having been passed down from Adam? Vintage68 |

Hi Tenmakk Very simply, Jesus shows us through the rest of the chapter, that we are to not be respecters of persons, we are to treat all men equally, saved, and unsaved. Jesus Himself gives us these examples of how this love is to be demonstrated, even today. Human nature is no different today than it was 2000 yrs. ago, we all want vengeance for wrongs done. Through the love you show, that is what differentiates us from the world, for we are the children of our Father which is in heaven. We are His representatives here on earth. Matthew 5:38-48 38) Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39) But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40) And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. 41) And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. 42) Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. 43) Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44) But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45) That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46) For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47) And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48) Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
