2 | SEEKING FOR THE TRUTH | NT general | sonofmom | 242704
Absolutely There are different kinds of gifts but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. (1 Cor. 12:4-5) Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. (1 Pet. 4:10) Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. (Romans 12:4-6a) |

3 | Anyone interested in Revalations 13:3? | Bible general | sonofmom | 240370
MzVicki, Let me be the first to welcome you to the forum! I have found this to be most excellent in searching out answers as it relates to the truth of God's inspired, infallible Word. You will always find good Christians here that are ready to engage in discourse concerning the Bible and how it pertains to daily living. However, we will only engage in truthful teaching. We are instructed in 2Timothy 2:15 : Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Now, I have to leave for work now, but will open this for discussion, after saying that Arthur Murrey is a heretic, that does not teach the truth. (Sorry for being blunt) Please go to CARM Christian apologetics and research ministry for problems associated with his teaching, such as 'serpent seed' doctrine. Now, as to the Roman Catholic Church, Please go to Proclaiming the Gospel ministries and see what Mike Gendron has to offer. That is a good historical account of the RCC that you have offered for perusal, and I thank you for that. But we look to the inerrant, infallible, and inspired Word of God for all answers pertaining to life and salvation. I apologize for cutting this short, but I will return this pm to further bolster my argument in truth. May our Lord bless you richly as you seek Him. |

5 | In Bible the term Jew first used? | Bible general Archive 4 | sonofmom | 234057
on the other hand, the Word, 'Judaism' refers to the religion and philosphy espoused by the Jewish people, but can actually get quite complex. For some, it would mean the expression of the covenantal relationship God established with the Children of Israel. For more modern times, liberal movements such as Humanistic Judaism may actually be nontheistic. |

6 | In Bible the term Jew first used? | Bible general Archive 4 | sonofmom | 234056
the word, JEW is used first in the Book of Esther, (8 times) but I am not sure if that would be first in the chronological order. In 2 Kings, the word, 'Jews' is used twice, still being listed as the Strong's # H3064 and refers to someone who belonged to the kingdom of Judah. Later, after the removal of the ten tribes, the word Jew came to refer to any Israelite. |

7 | Is The Quote In The Bible? Where? | Deut 23:18 | sonofmom | 231996
Deuteronomy 23:18 seems to be the right verse, but not the only verse. per the King James, "Thou shalt not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a dog, into the house of the LORD thy God for any vow: for even both these are abomination unto the LORD thy God. " The hire of a whore, meaning, the money she gets by her whoring, and the price of a dog, that is, of the Sodomite, pimp, or whoremaster (for such are called dogs in Rev. 22:15). The money gained by lewd and unlawful practices, shall by no means be brought into the house of the Lord for any vow. What this is saying, is that God would not accept of any offering at all from such wicked people; if they had nothing to bring for an offering other than what they got through the practice of wickedness, then their sacrifice could not but be an abomination to the Lord, Prov. 15:8. So, to beware of the man with the price of a dog (having it in his pocket must mean he would be looking to spend it) would mean to me that if it is not good enough to put in the offering plate at church, then if I were to accept it, possibly as wages, or trade, I would be partaking in what the Lord considers an abomination. And that, good pastor, is plenty to beware of. May the true God of the Bible richly bless you as you serve Him. -Son |

8 | What is Ezekial 28:11-17 and Isiah 14:12 | Ezekiel | sonofmom | 231929
Ezekial 14:12 is believed by many to be talking directly to satan, and I believe the reasons are clear. The chapter begins by talking to the prince of Tyrus (as the KJV has it) but then in the 12th verse, the tone changes abruptly and starts addressing the king of Tyrus. it says, "Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God" (vs 13) And then he is called, "the anointed cherub who covers" There is no earthly king who fits this decription. And, yes, the passage in Isaiah is understood to be about the same fallen angel. blessings to you, son |

9 | Act 8 1 to 5, Apostle(s) | NT general | sonofmom | 225327
Hi homeflash, welcome to you. Let us start at the end of your question, because it is tough to answer too many questions at once. If you were to know the difference, that may help clear up a few other questions. "And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." ( Act 11:26) Disciple is from the English word for discipline, but translated from the Greek word, Mathetes, which means: a learner, a pupil, or disciple. We can all be Disciples by choice, but we are unable to become apostles by our own will. The word Apostle first appears in the first verse of Romans, in the words of Paul, " a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle..." The first and second letters to the Corinthians, along with Galatians, Ephesians, Colossians and others start out in like manner. Paul introduces himself as an Apostle, which is a transliteration of the Greek word, Apostolos, and this means, 'a delegate, messenger, as one sent forth with orders, and is specifically applied to the twelve Apostles of Christ, but in a broader sense is applied to some of the foremost Christian teachers. Can one be a deacon as well as an Apostle? Can one be both an Apostle and a Disciple? I think these questions could be answered Yes, and your question seems to necessarily eliminate one from the other. Son |

10 | Science of Getting Rich | Bible general Archive 4 | sonofmom | 224871
N S, Sorry for the late response, I just want to follow up and see if you are having any luck. I am sorry that you are feeling as Jonah trapped in the whale. Is it possible that you are trying to do this work by your own power instead of relying on the totally sufficient power of Christ? Read the Book of Jonah, and focus on how Jonah was freed. I will pray also that your wife comes to know Jesus as her personal savior. As for defending the Word, there is not much you can do beyond the Word itself. God's Word is sharper than any two edged sword and there is nothing able to perform as well as His Word. Just remain in the Word and you will know thr truth. And the truth will make you free. |

14 | Did Barabbas have a first (given) name? | NT general | sonofmom | 222394
In early history, there was not the idea of last names as we know today. Barabbas was the name given to this person, but it is easily broken down. Bar means simply, son, or son of. See Mark 10:46 where it says, "And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the highway side begging." Jesus also mentions, 'Simon Barjona' in Mat 16:17 So, since abba means father, (Strongs #G5), Barabbas would mean Son of Father. It is quite indicative of the wickedness in the hearts of the crowd when they were given the choice to either release Jesus, who committed no crime, or to release Barabbas, "And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas" Meaning, release to us son of father, who was a worldly substitute in lieu of releasing the real Son of the real Father |

15 | widows rights | 1 Tim 5:3 | sonofmom | 222164
Hi Diomede, Yes you are right in your assumption that God was concerned about these widows being looked after. Also God wants no one to be taken advantage of, and much less does He want His people to take advantage of others Now. Was that necessary? We must analyze the cultural recognition that women typically beheld during that historical period. Women were most often treated as second class citizens as to the point of their word was no good in the court of law, without the testimony of two witnesses to reinforce it. This would have been a very difficult climate in which to succeed in a private business venture, much unlike the 'glass ceiling' that is being purported today. |

17 | Is any of this true? | 1 Thess 4:1 | sonofmom | 222092
Greetings, Curious What is more important than Where to Read about the answer, is where will you be when the question is finally answered ?? Your question IS old news to be sure, as the question has been asked many times since the first century, and after reading Pastor Beja's fine answer, we can tell that the answer has not yet been discovered. This is God's plan: that no one will know the day or the hour. (Matt 25:13) There is much small talk around bar-b-ques and campfires about end times, and when you line up their answers with what God's Word says, they are all proven false. Let me use the recent interest in the year 2012 for example. There is nothing special about the Mayan culture that would give them any insight far into the future, they were very good observers of astronomy and developed a good calendar. They just happened to stop the calendar at 2012. So, do ot be deceived along with the many who will be deceived in the end times. An increase in false messiahs, an increase in warfare, and increases in famines, plagues, and natural disasters—these are all signs of the end times. (Matt 24:5-8) When people are saying, "All is well; everything is peaceful and secure," then disaster will fall upon them as suddenly as a woman's birth pains begin when her child is about to be born. And there will be no escape. (1 Thes 5:3) So the present earthquakes and volcanoes are a sign of the second coming of Christ. But as the Scriptures say, these will increase until He comes. Whoever has children knows that the labor pains of a woman increase in intensity and in frequency until the child is born, and there is only one thing that will end the cycle: The child is born. Jesus tells us in (Matt 24:24), "For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great miraculous signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God's chosen ones." So you are correct in your decision to seek God's Word for an answer. Pray before you read His Word, and He will be the one to guide. There are many heretics out there so we must all remain aware. May the Lord bless you as you seek Him |

18 | What form will we take in heaven? | Bible general Archive 4 | sonofmom | 222038
Hello, His Student, May the following verses edify you. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. I John 3:2 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And he took [it], and did eat before them. Luke 24:41-43 Jesus saith unto them, Come [and] dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise. John 21:12-13 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Rom. 8:18 [There is] one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for [one] star differeth from [another] star in glory. So also [is] the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam [was made] a quickening spirit. Howbeit that [was] not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man [is] of the earth, earthy: the second man [is] the Lord from heaven. As [is] the earthy, such [are] they also that are earthy: and as [is] the heavenly, such [are] they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. I Cor. 15:41, 49 For we know that if our earthly house of [this] tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 Cor 5:1 |
