1 | Do babies go to heaven or hell? | Gen 5:24 | mom7x | 154183
To tell the truth, I don't know. I don't know if it is even possible to know. What I do know is this. God is almighty, merciful, just good, and the overflowing fountain of all good. He alone will decide this question. Because he is good, merciful, and kind, I have no fear that he will do something that is cruel. I can trust in him, and in his decisions. The other thing I know is that Job, who was a righteous man, offered daily sacrifices for the possible sins of his children.(Job 1:5) I would assume that God honored his sacrifices, for God answers the prayer of a righteous man. As Christians, I think what God wants from us is to pray for mercy for these little ones, as well as those who are mentally handicapped, or those who have not yet heard the gospel. |

4 | A stump? | Is 6:13 | mom7x | 154145
God's chosen people is Israel. Israel was disobedient, and God cut them off in many ways-the exile to Assyria of the ten tribes, and the exile to Babylon of Judah. The picture here is of Israel, as an oak tree that has been cut off. The stump, which includes the root, the lifegiving portion of the tree, is what is left of Israel after God has purified it.
5 | first people trying to gain independence | Genesis | mom7x | 154143
It depends on what you mean by independence. I see it as refusal to rely on others, including God, depending on self alone. Adam and Eve, by refusing to obey God, rebelling against what he told them(Gen 3)were the first to try to gain this. Instead of relying on God, that he knew what was best for them, they thought they could make a better decision. They wanted to be gods. As for a people, depending on how you look at it, it could be Cain and his descendants, because he too wanted to be a god, deciding who should live and who should die. God made him go away by himself (Gen 4:16). (This verse also gives us a good definition of independence-away from the prescence of the Lord.) Then there was the tower of Babel(Gen 11), when people tried to be better than God, stronger than God, so God confused them and gave them different languages. I hope this helps. |

8 | what is salvation and how does it work ? | Eph 2:8 | mom7x | 154108
If you are saved, you are always saved.(John 10:27,28) We are saved by faith, a living faith in our saviour. If your new life does not bring fruit, you will be cut off.(John 15:2)see also Matthew 13(the parable of the sower) It is important to not get complacent in praying a prayer, and not worrying about it again.Phil 2:12 says "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." True salvation includes fruitfulness, otherwise there isn't really life there.James 2:26 says faith without works is dead. |

9 | The rest of God? | Heb 3:19 | mom7x | 154102
First, the rest of God is Canaan-in the days of Israel, an actual physical place, which was a picture of heaven. It is the time when we can cease from our works, just as God did on the seventh day of creation. (Hebrews 4) Second, there is a difference between obedience and unbelief. Disobedience to God is not doing what he tells us to. Unbelief is not believing he does what he says or is who he says he is. When we don't believe him, we don't do what he says. the law isn't all of it, because he also says to trust in him with all your heart, to acknowledge him in all your ways(Proverbs 3:5,6)We are saved by faith, not works(Eph 2:8). If we refuse to believe in Jesus, that he paid the debt for our sin, we are disobedient. (Hebrews 4:2)We are not relying on God, but on our own works. The Pharisees were great at making laws and keeping them. Jesus called them hypocrites(Matthew 23)because although they obeyed the letter of the law, they disobeyed the spirit of it. |

10 | relations with a father and son | Leviticus | mom7x | 154100
Leviticus 18:8 says that son's are not to uncover their father's wife's nakedness. though the woman was not married at the time to the father I believe it still applies. Having sex without marriage is also addressed in Leviticus, and is sin. In those times a woman was stoned for it, as was the man.
11 | Questions on the goodness of man | Rom 7:18 | mom7x | 154097
Genesis 1:31 says God saw all that he had made and behold it was very good. Man was created good. We were all made sinners through the fall. (Romans 5:19) Psalms says there is none that do good, not even one.(Psalm 53:3) Isaiah 64:6 says that even our good deeds are filthy. Mark 10:18 says that no one is good except God himself. Psalm 53 (and Psalm 14)says it the best, that wicked man-unregenerate man-has no goodness at all in him. Keep in mind that this is God's view of good, not man's. Man would say that anyone can do "good" deeds- helping others, being a good friend, etc. If these things are not done to glorify God, they cannot have good in them. Anything that is without God cannot be good. |

12 | Why does he fall asleep at church? | Luke 8:15 | mom7x | 153469
I believe he could be right, that it could be the devil fighting him to try to stop his growth. All you can do is pray for him, for protection against the schemes of the devil. Feeding himn peppermints, or hot cinnamon candies might help too. What HE can do is another matter. He can put on the armor of God, (Ephesians 6:11-17)he can get up and walk around in the back of the church so he can still hear what is going on--he can choose to resist the devil(James 4:7) I guess it all depends how important it is to him. Hope this helps! |

13 | Pride is a good thing! Or is it? | Prov 23:7 | mom7x | 153468
Pride is not good according to the bible. The bible says we are all sinners, and have fallen short of the glory of God.(Romans 3:23) Having children myself, how I have dealt with this one is to teach them that they are precious to me and to God. This gives them a sense of worth and confidence. I also try to teach them that they are to give thanks to God for what they are able to accomplish, because it is Him who has made them able to do it. I teach them that what they do can please God,if they obey him, just as it pleases me when they obey me. I guess it comes down to making God the focus, not them, yet still letting them know they have worth because of who they are. |

14 | Usury, extortion and the poor | Prov 28:8 | mom7x | 153467
I believe this is talking about God taking away what he has and giving it to someone who will have mercy on the poor. This concept is quite common in Proverbs.
15 | Lonley in marriage? | James 1:15 | mom7x | 153466
A very tough place to be...and exactly why God warns us against yoking ourselves together with unbelievers. God does have grace when we make mistakes, though as I have seen in my own life after doing something similar. My advice? Do continue to pray for him, as well as the family members involved. The emotional abuse can be difficult to deal with, but it comes down to knowing what is the truth. If you know the bible, and believe it, then if he were to tell you you are worthless, for example, you can be sure that isn't true. You are worth the life of the son of God. Put on the armor of God, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and use your sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Just remember who your enemy is-not your husband, but spirits...of lying, of hurtfulness, and so on. (see Ephesians 6:11-17)The other thing is, do NOT preach at your husband. "In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, " 1Peter 3:1 This was and is the hardest thing for me to obey...keep my mouth shut? ME???? Yet it was one of the most helpful things I read. I hope this helps! |
