Bible Question: Pride is a good thing! Or is it? How many of us have raised our children encouraging them to be proud of themselves and to take pride in their accomplishments. Teaching them to have confidence in themselves. I know I did and I thought this was the right thing to do. But is it? What are some better ways we can teach our children God's truths and use this to teach them to be confident instead of teaching them to be prideful in themselves? |
Bible Answer: Pride is not good according to the bible. The bible says we are all sinners, and have fallen short of the glory of God.(Romans 3:23) Having children myself, how I have dealt with this one is to teach them that they are precious to me and to God. This gives them a sense of worth and confidence. I also try to teach them that they are to give thanks to God for what they are able to accomplish, because it is Him who has made them able to do it. I teach them that what they do can please God,if they obey him, just as it pleases me when they obey me. I guess it comes down to making God the focus, not them, yet still letting them know they have worth because of who they are. |
