1 | Workout your own salvation | Rom 1:18 | heartfire | 20652
About that Abraham thing, God tested Abraham's faith so Abraham could progress from faith to faith and glory to glory. It's like impure gold, and you run it through fire to burn up the impurities. Of course, God already knew that Abraham could handle it. But if God had not done that, Abraham's faith would not have been strengthened. Well, let's say, after that experience, Abraham now knows that God will never go back on His promise, no matter what. And anyway, if God had not tested him, there would have been no future in which Abraham would have been obedient. So when it happened, Abraham's obedience was more or less proven, and the devil cannot accuse Abraham anymore. And as for not being able to choose anything, that's not true. God gave us all a free will. That's why there's such a thing as faith and doubt. |

2 | longest recorded prayer of jesus | John 17:1 | heartfire | 19689
I'm not sure, but I think it is John 17. If you're talking about the Lord's prayer, it's both in Matthew 6: 9-13 and Luke 11: 2-4 (it seems the one in Matthew is more complete, coz it adds "For Thine is the kingdom...").
3 | JOHN THE BAPTIST KILLED | Mark 6:14 | heartfire | 19437
If you're talking about Jesus' power, well, Jesus didn't stop himself from being killed either. Why? To fulfill the prophecies (for John, it was the prophecies about the Elijah), and for a higher purpose God had planned.
4 | Life through His Spirit who dwells in us | Rom 8:2 | heartfire | 19434
Um... I think it was referring "life in Christ Jesus" and "sin and death" as two systems of judging/law. Hence, Jesus' law (which is that if you confess the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, and other related promises about Jesus' death and ressurection) sets us free from the law of sin and death. I guess the "Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus" refers to the new covenant and the promises we have in Christ Jesus. I'm not too clear on your question, so sorry if I'm totally off tangent. |

5 | can you divorce from lack of love | 1 Cor 7:10 | heartfire | 19431
What is true love? True love is unconditional, like God's agape love. In marriage, it's a decision. When you made your marriage vow, you agreed to love the man forever (I'll just assume it's a man for convenience throughout this message). It's a decision, not a feeling. Yes, the feeling's a God-blessed bonus, which God will help you have if you request it. And as others have pointed out, the Bible says plenty about NOT divorcing no matter WHAT. Also, to divorce is one thing. To re-marry, when the divorced spouse is still alive, is committing adultery. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Honestly, after what Jesus did to those dishonest merchants in the temple at Jerusalem, I wouldn't dare defile THIS temple of the Holy Spirit, for fear of losing Heaven's smile on me. Furthermore, now you know what's wrong and what's right, there's little excuse, actually. And more about marrying a divorced man (whose ex-wife I presume is still living). Do you know why he divorced that woman? I'm not sure why. But in any case, when he got married, he musta felt about her the same way as he feels about you now. But they still divorced. Either that means that his love was based on feelings (and you know how unstable feelings can be) or he never thought to keep the vow anyway. If it was based on feelings, you are bound to experience problems with him again. If he didn't mean to keep his vow, why would he keep his vow to you when he didn't to her? In any case, marriage should be a decision, made in the Lord's name and blessing. Don't abuse marriage vows. Don't use the name of the Lord your God in vain. Well, if that person's partner whom he divorced is still alive, then pray to God, and ask Him to give you the strength to do what is right. |

6 | help me with Jehovah's Witness' belief | Col 2:9 | heartfire | 19427
Hello. Sorry, I'm not exactly answering the question, but I'm telling you the best way I know how to convince him. Usually, for this kind of people, it's not logic that they go by. Well, up to a certain point, yeah. But once you've argued your mouth dry with them, you'll discover it's not so much logic that's withholding them from the truth. Well, this might not be in all cases, but in most cases I've come across, that's the case. The key is not in logic. It's in the power of the Holy Spirit to convict them of their sins. They can't see what you're talking about because of spiritual blindness. It's not just logic. It's spiritual. I've debated over whether there was a God with my good friend before (she's still a good friend, don't worry). She's s'posed to be VERY logical, being in debate and all. But at one point, she somehow got very illogical. She didn't seem confused herself. She seemed to know perfectly what she was talking about, but from what I saw, that wasn't the case. So it's not logical. It's spiritual. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." -Ephesians 6: 12 How to overcome it? Pray. Pray, pray, pray. Do spiritual warfare. Be like the persistent widow Jesus talked about, so persistent that the Judge had no way of refusing her request. Petition for your friend to know the truth, that he should know the truth and the truth will set him free. And after you've prayed, well, I'm not sure how you can accomplish this. Don't bother arguing. Instead, somehow, with prayer and guidance from God, try out methods to just get him to read the pure Word of God. Just God's truth. For the Word of God is like a double-edged sword that cuts through to the bone and marrow. This way, the glory of his being set free won't go to you, but to God. This is to show the world that God alone could save him, and not you. Hope that helped in some way. |

7 | How do you know there is a God? | Ps 46:10 | heartfire | 19425
Well, Jesus says in Matthew 7:7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." So how do you know if there is a God? Search. How do you search? Well, in the Holy Bible, there are tons of promises which God gives you. You can challenge any of these promises, with a sincere heart to see if God is real (instead of trying to ridicule those who believe in God which I don't think you're trying to do here). God will answer you. So challenge God, and let God be God and show you His might and power. Also, I'm not sure about others reading this, but I'm talking to you personally: I believe in God's divine healing till today. Challenge God on that too. If you have a sickness or disease, search for verses in the Bible about healing and claim your healing. God will heal you. Either that, or maybe go to a Christian healing center (a church or an event in which a servant of God heals people), and see for yourself if God is real. Either that, or you can go to Christian bookrooms and look for books on these people: Smith Wigglesworth, John Graham Lake, Thomas Welch or Kenneth Haigin. There are many books on these people with photos even. Some have appendixes. Check these out. The testimonies are marvellous, and the photos and appendixes, as well as the diversity of authors and consistency of their claims, substantiate the claims in these books. Erm... ask again differently if I didn't answer your question. |
