1 | How can we know if our faith is real? | Bible general Archive 1 | Twally | 6888
In the Partners in Growing booklet we hand out to a new convert in the Evangelism Explosion ministry founded by D.James Kennedy the following statement is made: The Bible states clearly that no one has eternal life just because he SAYS that he has trusted Christ (James 2:14). Only the person who truly repented (foresaken, turned away) from his sins and placed his faith in Jesus Christ's sacrificial death genuinely has received eternal life. The person who has committed his life to Jesus Christ and thereby received the gift of eternal life will, out of gratitude for that gift, desire to: -Obey Christ and please God -Study God's Word: the Bible -Be with God's people in worship -Tell others about Christ -Live a clean and holy life The person who has no desire to learn more and grow in his spiritual life should not be deceived into thinking he actually possessos eternal life. Although there will be struggles, with new life comes new desires and a new hunger for the things of God. Living Coram Deo, Jim Raisler |

3 | What is special about "logos" (Word)? | John 1:1 | Twally | 5343
What about the person with a Jewish background? In Boice's commentary he states that the term "word" would refer a Jewish person to the first words of Genesis.. in the beginning God spoke and all things came into being... To the Jews a word was something concrete, something much closer to what we would call an event or a deed. Jim |

4 | What is special about "logos" (Word)? | John 1:1 | Twally | 5342
Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher in 6 century B.C., stated that all of life is in a state of change. .. not in a chaos, not mere random chance. It is ordered change. .. This means there must be a divine "reason" or "word" that controls it. This is the logos, the word that John uses. Plato, we are told, said, "It may be that some day there will come forth from God a Word who will reveal all mysteries and make everything plain." From James Boice's commentary on John, vol 1, pg34-35 God Bless, Jim Raisler |

5 | Reformation Bible Episcopal? | Bible general Archive 1 | Twally | 5127
My guess would be yes, It is an update to the origional Geneva published in 1590's with significant input from Calvin. You can go to crosswalks on internet and view the origional notes of the Geneva Bible. Then by checking some "historical Episcopalian" key texts you could evalate the notes, etc. I recommend the Bible if your interest is to study the interperations of the reformers |

6 | The Rapture, when will it be? | Bible general Archive 1 | Twally | 2797
John F. Walvoord, Dallas Theological Sem., wrote in one of his books that you can only build a case for a pretrib rapture if you hold to the position that God has a separate salvation covenant with the Jews. I can't see it based on Paul's writtings in Romans 9-11, and Galatians 3. This is a larger than large subject. I would suggest you go to http://www.crta.org/index2.html and click on the eschatology page. |

7 | Is it the New Geneva Bible or another? | Bible general Archive 1 | Twally | 2645
"The Reformation Study Bible" was formerly titled "The New Geneva Study Bible." I have one and enjoy it's emphasis on recovering the theology of the Reformation. It has articles on 100 key Biblical doctrines and themes. |

10 | Preordained free will? | 1 Pet 2:9 | Twally | 1454
R. C. Sproul quote: "There are aspects of God's own nature that remain shrouded in mystery. How He governs His creation by a soverign will that works through human agents without destroying their volition or responsibility is one." John Calvin quote: "Now the reason why the LORD treats some mercifully and exercises the rigour of His judgement towards others we must leave to be known by him alone, for He, with very good intentions, has wished that it should be hidden from us all. The course insensitivity of our mind would not be able to bear such a great light; nor would our smallness be able to understand such great wisdom." I have had a easier time when confronted with what seems to be contradiction by accepting the mystery. Deuteronomy 29:29 says it well ! |

11 | BEST COMMENTARY ON REVELATION? | Revelation | Twally | 1168
There are 4 main views on how the visions of 6:1-18:24 are fulfilled. Preterists think fulfillment occurred in 70 AD. Futurists think fulfillment will occur in a period just before the Second Coming. Historicists think that section offers a basically chronological outline of the course of church history. Idealists think that the scenes of Revelation depict not specific events but principles of spiritual war throughout the church age and may have repeated embodiments. So proceed with an understanding that for years there have been different understandings. |
