Bible Question: What special meaning did "logos" (the Word) have for both Greeks and Jews? |
Bible Answer: Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher in 6 century B.C., stated that all of life is in a state of change. .. not in a chaos, not mere random chance. It is ordered change. .. This means there must be a divine "reason" or "word" that controls it. This is the logos, the word that John uses. Plato, we are told, said, "It may be that some day there will come forth from God a Word who will reveal all mysteries and make everything plain."
