1 | Old and New? | Matt 1:21 | Kepha | 163088
As others have stated, the two are in fact complementory. We are under a 'curse' if you will, begun in the 1st. or 2nd. century when men such as Marcion, Eusibious, Origen and later Constantine brought into the adolescent church, theology that proposed the very thoughts you presented here. Marcion started the whole idea of the 'law' being dead, being obsolete and Jesus replacing it with Grace and Love.... when in fact Grace and Love are evident in Genesis 1, and onwards. The evidence that Jesus is spoken of throughout the entire OT is found in what He said, recorded in John 5:45-47 "Do not suppose that I will be the one to accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom you have set your hope. For if you believed Moses, you would believe me, for it was about me that he wrote. But if you do not believe what he wrote, how will you believe my words?" Jesus was saying that Moses for one, wrote all about Him, and we haven't been taught that in our churches. So, we see the OT as a history book, not really relevant to our day and age, because we now have Jesus. Yet, Paul was speaking of ONLY the entire OT when he said 'all Scripture is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction' etc. There's so much more to show why the OT is totally relevant today, but I haven't the time at the moment... :) |

2 | what is trinty ? | 1 John 5:7 | Kepha | 157450
Trinity is an understanding of God as 'three-in-one', that attempts to explain how God can be Father Son and Holy Spirit acting separately at times, yet be one God at the same time. This concept and the name Trinity come from the 2nd. century, when a man named Marcion, a very intelligent fellow, brought into the adolescent body of believers the name Trinity, from Greek mythology. This god indeed was a three-in-one god,and the concept suited his (Marcion's) theology and so he used it to explain God. This conflicts with Deuteronomy 6:4-6 where YHVH declares who He is, that He is One, and there are many other Scriptures that help describe and explain just how God is One, yet identified as three distinct personalities. Consider Him this way: take yourself as an example... if you are married you have a distinct relationship with your partner. If you have children you have a distinct relationship with children. If you have siblings, you have a distinct relationship with siblings. Now, you are just ONE person, yet you can enjoy and have happening these three distinct relationships at one time, in the same room, at the same time. Your wife, children and siblings will see you distinctly in the relationship in which you interact with them, yet you are ONE person. YHVH or God comes to you and me in all three relationships at the same time, distinct yet as ONE God, and in this we can't totally understand, or fathom the depth....because we are finite in this life and He is eternally infinite, able to transcend all created concepts. Yet, He has given us enough in Scripture to believe, and receive Salvation, or Purity. Hope this helps... |

3 | Age for baptism? | Bible general Archive 3 | Kepha | 157449
Jesus was baptized as the church understands the act, by John and at the age mentioned, yes....however we must remember that He was living and in full agreement with the Mosaiic Covenant and all that it taught. He also lived as a Hebrew, in a Hebraiic culture, so what we see happening at that time is not 'baptism' per se, rather a 'Mikvah', which is the root for our word baptism. Jesus was 'Mikvahed' many times, as were all observant Hebrew people. This is an act that is a status change, and done so often because of the frequent desire for people to experience a change of status before YHVH, and it's symbolized in the act of the baptism as we see it. We must not transfer church-age doctrine and theology onto the 1st. century culture, as that will totally confuse many people because much of what the church does today doesn't have it's roots in the Hebraiic roots of our faith. The age that you mentioned, 12 or 13, are traditionally the ages of the Bar (male) or Bat (female) Mitvah, because this is the age at which Ishmael was circumcised, together with his father Abraham. It's a very signficant time in a young person's life, in that they are considered to be entering into being a son or daughter of the Torah, or Scriptures. |

4 | Faith not strong enough ? | Num 15:15 | Kepha | 157153
No apology necessary, because you are expressing the very heart of Yeshua in your query... to be focused on one who struggles, to the point of heartache (yours). Can you step beside this person to help mentor them in their walk? Can you initiate a Bible study time just for you two, that will help them understand HOW to be firm and strong in their daily walk? So often believers are convinced they must do the bulk of the work... to be the firm foundation themselves when they are to put their faith in His Faithfulness to accomplish all that He has promised. If you can, be the helping hand to your acquaintance, if that's not possible try to connect them with a person or persons who can be a sincere and committed help. We love our neighbours as ourselves, and in this we can place ourselves in the story of the 'good' samaritan.. see this person as one who is being robbed continually of their JOY. Step in, help them to see where wisdom is, as she calls in the streets (Prov. 1:20 ). There is so much in Scripture that calls to us to strengthen us, and help those around who struggle in their halacha (holy walk). That you care enough to mention this here, indicates you have a heart to see this person strengthened and empowered... ask YHVH for the insight as to how you can help bring that to reality. |
