Bible Question: why are the old and new testements so different and contradictory? |
Bible Answer: As others have stated, the two are in fact complementory. We are under a 'curse' if you will, begun in the 1st. or 2nd. century when men such as Marcion, Eusibious, Origen and later Constantine brought into the adolescent church, theology that proposed the very thoughts you presented here. Marcion started the whole idea of the 'law' being dead, being obsolete and Jesus replacing it with Grace and Love.... when in fact Grace and Love are evident in Genesis 1, and onwards. The evidence that Jesus is spoken of throughout the entire OT is found in what He said, recorded in John 5:45-47 "Do not suppose that I will be the one to accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom you have set your hope. For if you believed Moses, you would believe me, for it was about me that he wrote. But if you do not believe what he wrote, how will you believe my words?" Jesus was saying that Moses for one, wrote all about Him, and we haven't been taught that in our churches. So, we see the OT as a history book, not really relevant to our day and age, because we now have Jesus. Yet, Paul was speaking of ONLY the entire OT when he said 'all Scripture is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction' etc. There's so much more to show why the OT is totally relevant today, but I haven't the time at the moment... :) |
