1 | Should we ask God for the gift of tongue | 1 Cor 12:11 | Jesified | 111660
Well, your longer question and shorter question are slightly different so let me answer it this way. Yes, we should ask God for the gift of tongues if we haven’t already been filled with the Spirit (being born again or born of the Spirit is different then being filled with the spirit). Mark 16:17 starts a list of signs that will follow them that believe, one of which is speaking with new tongues. With the assistance of a concordance, I have found that you could also read the passage as this, "speak in new languages superior to the old." So this passage states that speaking in tongues is superior regular human speech. Now, please don't misunderstand me and take off on that idea. Tongues are useful for 3 main things: edification and as a sign to convey a message, to pray the will of God. You can't just get in the pulpit and preach a message completely in tongues with no interpretation, because that won't do anyone but you any good (1 Cor 14:5). Another individual answered your question with a story about an individual who spoke in an Ethiopian tongue. That would be tongues used as a sign. The third main usage is tongues to pray the will of God. Since you know that utterance of speaking in tongues is given/directed by the Holy Spirit (you referenced 1 Cor 12:11) than you can clearly see that tongues are of God. You can be given the “burden” or a strong urge to pray a certain way or for a certain thing, but if you don’t know how to pray you can always pray in tongues as the Spirit would lead. For example I had the strong unction the other day to pray for Ireland. I didn’t know what about then and I may never. It’s kind of hard for me to explain. As for your second question, the believer is born of the Spirit, but not filled with the Spirit. Born of the Spirit means that you're going to Heaven, you believe in Jesus. Filled with the Spirit, means that you operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the most obvious and usually the first sign of this is speaking in tongues, but that isn't always the case. For more info on tongues I would suggest reading 1 Cor 14. Also, there are some very good books by Kenneth E. Hagin: Baptism in the Holy Spirit, Gifts of the Holy Spirit, and Why Tongues? Even if you don’t agree with his position on tongues, I would suggest reading them purely to be informed on the subject. If anything needs clarification, don’t hesitate to ask. God Bless, Jesified |

2 | Divine Healing, True or False? | Matthew | Jesified | 72232
As a follower of Christ and a believer of the Bible I say this with as much love as I can. You do not want to ask those questions here. I get myself into too many arguments defending the Bible everytime someone posts a divine healing question. I have seen where other's have answered your question supporting healing and prosperity and I agree with them, but I would like to remind you of a few things that are useful when you have scripture questions. 1) The New Covenant is an upgrade from the Old Covenant, therefore, any blessing in the Old Covenant is available in the New Covenant (Hebrews 8:6) 2) If you want to know the Father or His will, look at Jesus and what He did (John 8:19, 8:28, 14:7) 3) Always search scriptures to see if what is taught is true (Acts 17:11) In closing, I'd like to share an expierence that one of my friends had with Benny Hinn. Benny was a guest speaker at her church one week. He dropped in on them during their choir practice for his service (my friend was in the choir there). He had a short talk with them, held up his hands and said, "God bless you all." At that moment, the entire choir fell under the power of the Holy Spirit. I have also seen some of his broadcasts and heard similar stories from my friends and family. I assure you, Benny Hinn and what he preaches is legitimate. Well, i'm probably already going to get jumped on for what I've already told you so I'll make this post worth it. If you're looking for scriptural support watch Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Jesse Duplantis, Creflo Dollar, the list goes on. I don't like to use denominations because Christ broke down that wall in joining Jew and Gentile in one body (Colossions 3:11), but the Word of Faith movement preachers are not only founding everything on scripture, but living what they preach. My mother once saw Kenneth Copeland realize that he said something wrong while preaching and he stopped right there, repented and corrected what he had said. In the middle of his sermon. Also, I'd like to warn you about the oppositon you'll face throwing names like Hinn and Hagee out there. In answer to your question, many people have taken quotes out of context, misinterpreted what was said, slandered, and some just flat out don't believe the Bible. Remember that persecution is a part of being Christian. Jesus was persecuted and so was Paul, but we are conquers in Christ (1 John 5:4). Anyway, people can forge or take out of context whatever they want, but when it's all said and done if it's good it'll stand (Acts 5:34-42). God Bless, Jesified |

3 | What is the time of the tribulation? | Bible general Archive 1 | Jesified | 72204
Acts 1:7 says that only God knows the times and dates. However, we do know that it is seven years long although I can't remember what the scripture to back that up is. Jesified |

4 | Mark 1:14-20 what is it telling me | Bible general Archive 1 | Jesified | 72202
Welcome! I'm gonna' have to side with the EdB and pray on and say that it depends on who answers. I'd love to help you out though, but I'm gonna' need you to be more specific on what your asking. In these passages we see the beginning of Jesus' ministry and the calling of His first deciples. I'm not sure what you mean when you ask what it's telling you. Jesified |

5 | By the bible, is nuclear winter possible | Gen 8:22 | Jesified | 72201
Well, if you mean global warming or nuclear winter that would destroy all life on earth, I'd say no, it won't happen. If you mean global warming or nuclear winter that may kill large parts of the worlds population (but spare others). I think during the tribulation maybe. I'm not as up to date on Revelation as I should be. Jesified |

6 | What pastor or church can be trusted | Acts 17:11 | Jesified | 71984
Slander is how we are persecuted these days. I don't know of one good miniser off hand that I haven't heard something bad about. There's always someone who doesn't like the way that a particular preacher ties his tie or thinks that since old Aunt Maybelle didn't get healed so God doesn't want to heal any of us. Truthfully, if there was no opposition to a preacher, I'd think it odd. The devil likes to bad mouth his biggest targets the most and his biggest targets are the big time preachers (ie Hin, Hagee, Hagin, Copland, etc.) Jesified |

7 | Is C. Dollar teaching the truth? | Acts 17:11 | Jesified | 71977
I have heard a lot of Creflo's teaching and I assure you that what I have heard is in line with the word of God. The best way to know if someone is teaching the truth is to check it against scripture as the scholars of Berea in Acts 17:11 "These were more nobel then those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind and searched the scriptures daily, weather those things were so." Remember these few points to help you: 1)God doesn't change (Malachi 3:6) 2)God is no respector of persons (Romans 2:11) 3)If you don't understand a verse or passage ask these 3 questions: Who's talking? Who are they talking to? What are they talking about? Usually your answer will come somewhere in there. 4)Always follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. I hope what I have said will help you. 8 | Divine Healing? | Matthew | Jesified | 71949
That's part truth and part falicy. As was answered in melchizedekau's first post yes, it is God's will for us to be healed. God is no respector of persons. He want's you to be healthy just as much as He want's me to or Benny Hin, the Pope, Charles Manson, everyone. I would suggest reading the book Christ the Healer by F.F. Bosworth. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that Christ refused to heal anyone, and He only does the work of His Father (John 5:30) so God wants us all in good health. As for prosperity, you're probably quoting a minister who unfortunately has gone off on a tangent somewhere. I believe that my God shall supply all your needs through His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19) But to say that God is going to make everyone who gives to a certain ministry prosperous or that EVERYONE will have a 100 fold return is exaulting a certain person's ministry and getting yourself way over in the ditch on one side of the road. However, to say that God makes His children poor to teach them humbleness is calling God a child abuser and putting yourself in the ditch on the otherside of the road. I perferr to stay between the two. I give to God and He said that men shall give to me in good measure and it shall come back to me in many ways(Luke 6:38). Also, you don't need to tithe or give offerings to a specific ministry to get blessed. No matter what warehouse it's in it still belongs to the same company, if you know what I mean. Pay tithes to a church that is proclaiming Christ. Give to God, not to man. Jesified |

9 | Catholic Chruch, Idols, Holy Mother? | Matt 15:6 | Jesified | 71945
The belief that it is necessary for any mediator between God and man other than Jesus Christ in not found in the Bible and is considered by many to be idolatry. When I was part of the Catholic Church, I was taught to pray to Mary or to St. Someone it was putting another link between God and myself which is unscriptural and unnecessary. The Bible says to pray to God the Father in the name of Jesus "In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete" -John 16:23-24 As far as Holy Mother, Mary wasn't any Holier than you or me. She was chosen to give birth to the Christ child, which is a great honor, but as Paul might say, "that not of herself, but by the grace of God." Mary being a human could never be worthy to carry God in her womb. Speaking the Truth in Love, Jesified |

10 | Is Catholic considered false religion? | Matt 15:6 | Jesified | 71942
If you want my personal view no, it's not a cult. I view it as a collection of well meaning individuals who believe in a higher power, but due to a vast ammount of reasons are unlearned in scripture. I used to be Catholic and I'm now training to be a Full-Gospel pastor, so I have a view of both sides of the spectrum. The Catholic religion starts out right with the basis being Jesus, but there are some ideas that I have yet to find in the Bible. There are even some ideas held by the Catholic Church that I have seen scripture against. I don't want to offend Catholics on this site and I feel that I'm treading on some thin ice and I don't want to be misunderstood or asked to leave the forum. So I will only give some scripture references and ask you to research the history of the Catholic Church and what it's practices are today. Matthew 23:9 Matthew 6:7 1 Timothy 3:4 John 16:24 Once again I want to make it clear that it is not my place to tell people what to believe, but to present the word of God and to let them deside for themselves. If you have any questions or need for clarification don't hesitate to ask. Speaking the truth in love, Jesified |

11 | Praying in Jesus' name | John 16:24 | Jesified | 71929
We do pray directly to God in the name of Jesus. Jesus told us to pray to God in His name in John 16:23-24 “And in that day ye shall ask Me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever you shall ask the Father in my name, he will give you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive that your joy may be full.” To pray in the name of Jesus means to pray with the authority of Jesus or to pray as though it were Jesus Himself praying. He has all authority (Matthew 28:18 and Revelation 5:12-13) and He’s given us the right to use that authority by praying in His name. It’s like when they used to send messages long ago. There would be a wax seal on the outside and stamped in that seal would be initials, or a logo that represented the signature or authority of another person. The seal was placed so that you would know if the letter had been tampered with because you wouldn’t be able to make out the stamp of authority. We see an example of this in Shakesphere’s Hamlet. Hamlet opens a letter sealed by the newly crowned King Claudius and then changes the letter and re-seals it with the seal of King Hamlet (his recently deceased father). There’s a very long movie version of Hamlet where this scene is well done and you see him clearly sealing the letter that way. I always think of it when I hear teaching on praying in Jesus name because that illustration is what finally made it click for me. Our prayers are like letters to God sealed and stamped with Jesus’ authority when we say “in Jesus name, amen.” Let me know if I can be of anymore help. Jesified |

12 | PLease expound on I Corinthins 11:1 , 2 | Gal 2:20 | Jesified | 71923
I think you've got it right. I'm training to be a pastor, not that that makes me an expert, but I am educated in this field. Look at what Paul says in Galatians 2:20. He says, "..Christ lives in me.." I believe that this supports the same conclusion that you came to. Christ must live in us, meaning that we must be like Christ and that people should look at us and be able to see Christ in our life. Look at John 15:7. Jesus said, "If you abide in me and my words abide in you..." So we must also speak as Christ spoke, which will come naturally with the new birth, being filled with the Spirit, and as you progress spiritually reading your Bible. In John 8:38-39, Jesus tells the Pharasees, "I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father." They answered and said unto Him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children you would do the works of Abraham." The custom of the time was that the sons learned their skill or trade from their father. Jesus was a carpenter because Joseph was a carpenter. Jesus also did as God did because He was the Son of God. This is supported by John 5:19, “Then Jesus answered and said to them, Most assuredly I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in a like manner.” So Jesus imitated God the Father and the Pharasees were to imitate Abraham because that was the best example they had. We are not exactly supposed to imitate Paul, but we are to adopt the philosophy he had where we imitate Christ. Although, it would in some ways be great to imitate Paul he was very effective in ministry. We should do what he did, not because Paul did it, but because Jesus wants us to do it. Is Paul God? Of course not! We have the greatest example to follow and that is Jesus Christ. Too many well meaning Christians get off on some tangent with one scripture and before you know it they’re handling snakes, worshiping saints, and casting the devil out of everything. Someone once told me that anyone ignorant enough (and I mean that in the nicest, purest way) or clever enough can make the Bible mean anything. I hope what I have said will help. Don’t hesitate to ask questions. I’ll be glad to clarify anything I can. Jesified |

13 | Christ as advocate | John 16:26 | Jesified | 71889
I wondered the same thing after reading your question, but I'll tell you what helped me. Find an Amplified translation and back up to verse 19 and read it through verse 28. If you ask me this is not referring to Jesus in the role of advocate or intercessor, it's referring to Him personally not being able to plainly tell the disciples that He's going to die, and between when He died and when He rose again it won't be necessary for Jesus to ask God for them. Remember, they thought He was going to be a King like David or Herod or Cesar, not a King as in the head Church/body of Christ. Therefore, if they knew He was going to die, then they wouldn't allow Him to go. Peter tried to stop the Pharasees from arresting Jesus (although he wasn't more skilled in melee combat). I pray that God opens your eyes and shows you what you need to know to teach this lesson and that you let the Holy Spirit guide you into all truth. Jesified |

14 | John10:14-18 | 1 John 3:16 | Jesified | 71888
Well, to "rightly divide" the word of God, the first step is to ask yourself three questions. Who's talking? Jesus. Who are they talking to? The Jews (John 10:19) And what are they talking about? This seems to be your question. Also, remember that Jesus spoke in parables it is given to some to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but that wasn’t given to others listening. (Matthew 13:10-11) Jesus is the good shepherd. Israel is the flock of sheep. "Sheep which are not of this sheep fold" are the Gentiles, from whom the Jews separated themselves. America used to have racial segregation where blacks and whites had separate facilities and such. If you look at historical facts from the Biblical era you will find that the Jews similarly separated themselves from the Gentiles. They had signs in the temple warning against bringing Gentiles in. Paul was falsely accused of bringing Trophimus (a Gentile) into the temple which led to his arrest. (Acts 21:28-29) Jonah didn’t want to go to Nineveh because they were Gentiles, but 3 days in a whale will change anyone’s mind. Anyway, the two flocks being made one (Gentiles joining Jews) is what we call the Church, or the unified body of believers brought together because of a collectively held belief that Jesus is the son of God. So Jesus is the one shepherd of the one flock Where it says "...I lay down My life for the sheep" is talking about how Jesus would die (or lay down His life) for our sins (or to save the sheep). 1 John 3:16 "This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers." The rest of passage is Jesus telling us that He laid down His life only to pick it up again. God commanded Him to do this for two main reasons. 1) Lay it down for the sake of the sheep (to redeem us from sin, sickness, disease, etc.). 2) Pick it up because he was righteous, or in right standing with God and innocent, therefore, He didn’t stay in Hell. He went to Heaven because He defeated Satan with His own innocent blood being shed. He holds the keys of death and Hades (or Hell) so He has the right to remove Himself from it. (Revelation 1:18) I answered this mostly out of my own memory, so if you have any further questions or would like all the scripture references to support what I’m saying I will provide them at your request. 15 | Must Christ have had a human nature? | Phil 2:7 | Jesified | 71884
"but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.” Philippians 2:7 In this verse is Paul saying that Jesus was made in human likeness, which may or may not answer you question, but I'll explain some on the subject of Him being human and maybe that'll answer it. Jesus had to be both man and God for many reasons. He had to be man to be the seed of Abraham. “And through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.” Gen 22:18 “I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed,” Gen 26:4 “Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.” Gen 28:14 All these verses say that through Abraham’s seed (singular) all the nations of the earth will be blessed. The one seed to which this is referring is Jesus. Through Him we receive salvation, healing and have our needs met. "And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." Ph 4:19 "Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed." Isa 53:4-5 This is prophecy explained in Mt 8:16-17 "When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 'He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases'." “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” Jn 3:16 However, to be a worthy sacrifice He had to have completely innocent blood. By Levitical Law, a sacrifice had to be with out blemish. “When anyone brings from the herd or flock a fellowship offering to the LORD to fulfill a special vow or as a freewill offering, it must be without defect or blemish to be acceptable.” Le 22:21 And 1 Peter 1:18-19 tells us that the blood that redeemed us was without blemish or defect. “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” 1 Pe 1:18-19 The way to be righteous is to be born of a woman. “What is man, that he could be pure, or one born of woman, that he could be righteous?” Job 15:14 Therefore, Jesus had to be born of a woman so that He could be righteous, or in right standing with God. The sin nature of man was passed from Adam to all of us through the blood line. When a baby is being formed in it's mother's womb, the chromosomes of its parents decide everything about it. This is so cool, don't miss this next point. The blood type is decided by the father's chromosomes. Therefore, Jesus had to be the Son of God to inherit His Father's blood line. This blood line was not corrupted by sin because there is no sin in God. Thus, the power of Jesus Christ that washes away sins and heals disease is found in the only completely pure and innocent blood ever on earth and that is the blood of God Himself. Jesus also had to be human by being the Son of David to have a right to the throne. "The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up to David [Or [ up from David's line ] ] a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.” Je 23:5 ”In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David's line; he will do what is just and right in the land.” Je33:15 If you read Mt 1:1-17 (Christ’s genealogy through Joseph) you will see that by being Joseph’s son He was an heir to Israel’s throne. Although He wasn’t Joseph’s son because Joseph was His biological father, in fact Joseph wasn’t His father in that sense, God was (as I stated above). He was Joseph’s son because Joseph married His biological mother. Therefore, Jesus was the Son of God born of a woman and was without sin Himself, which made Him righteous and a worthy sacrifice. He qualified as an heir to the throne of Israel through Joseph. And He had to be Abraham’s seed to fulfill the covenant God made with Israel. Also, Jesus had to be a man because He was tempted in the desert by Satan. (Mt 4:1-11) Sorry, I’m not putting this on here because my answer is already quite lengthy, but I think I answered your question, if not just reply to this and be more specific and I’ll be more than happy to share what I know. 17 | favorite bible passages. | Bible general Archive 1 | Jesified | 67630
My favorite passages in the chapters in the Bible are Colossians 3 and 1 Timothy 3. In short, these two chapters outline basic principles to live by under the New Covenant since the Old Covenant, which had the 10 Commandments, was done away with at Christ's death and ressurection. Also, John and Romans were recommended to me when I was first saved. I hope these passages bless you, if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask. Jesified |

18 | Immaculate Conception, mary, how? | 1 John 1:8 | Jesified | 67629
Well, finalife, I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but I'll give it my best shot. God placed Jesus in Mary. It was a supernatural act. It had to be done this way, although I'm not 100 percent sure on EXACTLY how, I do have an idea. 1. Mary had to be a virgin. If Mary had sex with a man before the brith of Jesus, then everyone would have came to a very logical conclusion that Jesus was concieved then. 2. The Christ had to be born of a woman. Jesus could not be corrupted by sin or the sin nature that was passed down from Adam to all of us through the BLOOD LINE (remember that, it's important). When a baby is being formed in it's mother's womb, the chromosomes of it's parents decide everything about it. This next point is vital. My best guess as to how is that God supernaturally put His X chromosome in Mary and let nature run its course. I'm really not sure EXACTLY how God did it, I just know that He did and if He hadn't than I'd be in a heap of trouble. I hope I answered your question. This unfortunately is a very overlooked truth in scripture. Jesified |

Hmm, good question Maryanne, I know that when you give God priority things happen. When I was very young, before my parents were living for God, they struggled to make ends meet. My mother paid tithes to the only protestant ministry that my dad thought was valid and to this day he still doesn't know how they ever did it except that God provided. Read Matthew 6:8 and Philippians 4:19. God knows what you need and He is well able to provide it when you ask. Jesified |

20 | i want a in depth answer on romans 8:28 | Rom 8:28 | Jesified | 67616
That's a very good question. The Bible does say that God wishes than none shall perish, but for all to have everlasting life (John 3:16). So we were created in hopes that everyone would go to Heaven, unfortunately, not everyone actually does. In that respect, yes, we are all called to live eternally with God. However, if you are referring to full-time ministry, then no, everyone is not called. Look at 1 Corinthians 12. Although, the chapter is mainly on spiritual giftings and specific calls to ministry, the same principle can be applied to a society. If all of us were church pastors, who be would the congregation? If all of us were police men, who would put out fires? I think that every member in the Body of Christ has a place. No matter if it's a place in ministry or if you're the working at the 7-11, someone has to do it. I don't know for sure that there is anyone who is specifically called to pump gas, but I do know that God knows that the employer has a need and God can provide an individual for that vacancy. I don't know how well I answered your question, but I hope you can find the answer and what God's call on you life is. Jesified |
