1 | Anti Christ? Is America Babylon or Iraq? | Daniel | Greg Martin | 73882
Some say Rome was an extension of Babylon and hence Europe, and hence the United states. This by culture and migration and some other such things. I personally believe Babylon is Babylon and if you look at the looming action to come down on the dictator of Babylon, one might surmise a democracy taking his place. this could lead to wealth and Babylon becoming a world economic power. I have a problem with democracy. The United States was never meant to be, nor has it ever been, a democracy. The US is a Federalist Republic. The Founders wrote wisely on the tyranny of mob rule. Democracy is a humanist invention that overrules the inalienable God given rights. In a democracy, majority rules. So abortion can be voted legal. All the whites could vote for all the blacks to be slaves, etc, etc. Majority rule is mob rule and has little regard for things holy, or given by God. It violates the supremacy of God and puts man in His place. We used to think the one-world government would be a tyranny of a dictatorship. But I can see now it is more likely to be a tyranny of democracy! This is both fitting and ironic. Fitting in that man sets himself higher than God, and ushers in the antiChrist. It has always been Satan's goal to get man to commit the same sin as he did - to attempt to overthrow God and put himself in His place. Ironic in that man will vote himself into Hell! Anyway, I can see Babylon becoming a marvelous "triumph of democracy", becoming an international, global, economic power; all set for the end times. |

2 | Why would God seek to kill Moses? | Ex 4:24 | Greg Martin | 73880
From the text it appears that Moses was delinquent or even negligent to circumcise his son. It seems his wife Zipporah had to do it for him. This would account for why she was mad at him for she says "Surely you are a husband of blood to me!" and again after God let him go, she said, "'You are a husband of blood!'--because of the circumcision." v26 No mother would take kindly to having to do this to her own son. This would be a man's job. I think she's saying, I can't believe you made me do this because of your own negligence. In v26 it says "So He let him go." It appears God was going to take his life because he was not going to fulfill his part of the bargain. It may be that, since he did not do the circumcision, he was also intending not to go to Egypt either. (speculation) One can put 2 and 2 together and surmise that since God knew Moses would be the prophet, He did this to shock Moses back to the reality that he MUST go. Surely God knew that he would, yet it appears that he was preparing not to go. It is a hard thing that Moses was commanded to do, and he might have been thinking that meeting with God was just a dream, or that he was losing his mind and imagining these things. Imagine if you met God and He told you to go to Iran and depose the government. You would probably be looking for reasons to prove it wasn't real. |

3 | Do I need to go to church | Hebrews | Greg Martin | 48695
No. You don't need to go to church. You need to go to a Bible believing, Gospel preaching, by the blood of Christ Church.
4 | What does 1 Samuel 16:14-16 mean? | 1 Kin 22:22 | Greg Martin | 48094
This is different than 1 Kings 22:20. This is not necessarily an evil spirit, but a distressing spirit. If Gabriel himself appeared before you you'd be distressed. (But this is not what this is about that was just an example) Prov 21:1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes. If God can turn the heart of the king wherever He desires, He can also wrench it. |

5 | Wolf in Sheep's Clothing. At last, TRUTH | 1 Kin 22:22 | Greg Martin | 48091
Yes. But it is not an evil spirit from God. An evil spirit appeared before the Lord when He asked who will go? See also Job 1:6-12 and 2:1-7.
6 | How did JESUS really die? | John 19:30 | Greg Martin | 45744
John 19:30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 10:17 "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. 18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father." |

7 | Who is the Angel of God or the Lord? | OT general | Greg Martin | 45231
Many believe it is the preincarnate Christ. The archangels are called by name.
8 | Book, chapter and verse? | Gen 1:26 | Greg Martin | 44894
John 8:44 These are excellent questions LadyK. I don't think I can answer in the context of your Genesis question. Had you not asked this question first, I believe I could have answered your question. But when put in the light of your creation question, I confess my inadequacy. Jesus said in John 8 that Satan is the father of lies and a murderer from the beginning. So those abiding in lies (not believing in our Lord and Savior) are sons of the father of lies. Jesus also said (John 10:4) "And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice." and (John 10:27) "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." So clearly those who don't believe do not know His voice - that is they can not comprehend the light (John 1:5) or know the truth. the lie lives in them and so they are sons of the father of lies. In the context of your original question, I don't know how to answer. When we are born again we are born of the Spirit, and the Spirit lives in us. In this sense we are sons of our Father, and are created in His image. We know that Paul tells us the Christ also lives in us. If Christ, then also the Father. It's the "from birth" part that gives me trouble. |

"Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard" Can you get drunk on grape juice? |

10 | John 2, 1-11water into wine was it Juice | Luke 7:34 | Greg Martin | 41798
Luke 7:33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, "He has a demon.' 34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, "Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Jesus drank wine. 1 Timothy 5:23 No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities. The Bible tells us wine is healthy and to drink a little bit. The Pilgrims drank beer because they thought it to be more healthy than water. George Washington's favorite brew was made with pumpkin. Today we know that wine is healthy in small doses. Medical science shows it to clean the arteries and prevent heart attack and stoke. The Bible tells us that wine is good "for your infirmities" 2000 years ago. Who is more advanced? |

12 | Enjoy a beer | Bible general Archive 1 | Greg Martin | 40425
1 Timothy 5:23 No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities. The Bible tells us wine is healthy and to drink a little bit. The Pilgrims drank beer because they thought it to be more healthy than water. George Washington's favorite brew was made with pumpkin. Anyone thinking they are "more spiritual" or "holier" than the Pilgrims or George Washington (the most righteous man who ever set foot on this continent) I quote to you Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. But to you, top, I caution you Prov 20:1 Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Prov 21:17 He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; He who loves wine and oil will not be rich Eph 5:18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, Romans 14:21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak. So in other words, no it is not wrong to drink beer or wine in very small quantities and not in public, nor in the company of the weak or offended. |

13 | AA agnostic wants practical proof of God | Rom 10:17 | Greg Martin | 37955
Your job is not to save anyone. Your job is to preach the Gospel. The Spirit witnesses to Christ and Christ honors the Father. God saves men. You can not.
14 | Did the disciples have a choice? | John 15:16 | Greg Martin | 37898
My own reply - Jonah 1:1 Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry out against it; for their wickedness has come up before Me." 3 But Jonah arose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare, and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. I think this is the best example of a direct spoken command by God being disobeyed. To those who enjoyed this thread, I say thanks for the discussion. To those to whom this was just another "us vs them" I say sorry I stirred up a hornets nest for you. (but too bad, so sad!) |

15 | do babies go to heaven or hell? | Bible general Archive 1 | Greg Martin | 37672
Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." says God to Jeremiah. God allows you to make all your own decisions, but he knows what they all are before you are born. Will the baby be saved later in life? God knows now. He knew at the beginning of the World. Your name was written in the Book of Life before the Foundation of the World. Phil 4:3 Rev 2:5; 17:8, 20:15. Revelation 20:15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. |

16 | how do i pray and leave it with the lord | Prov 15:22 | Greg Martin | 36715
I'm guessing that you really don't want to quit, but rather you think you need to. When you decide to quit you will. What can force you to decide is to make yourself accountable to Christian friends. Proverbs 15:22 Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counselors they are established. Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, Proverbs 11:14 Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety. Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise. Proverbs 24:6 For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, And in a multitude of counselors there is safety. Don't be embarrassed, we were all sinners before being saved. In fact the only difference now is that we are forgiven because of our continual repentance. So just tell them your story and ask them to help. And of course continue praying (Luke 18:1-6) |

17 | Why is it that I cannot find Adonai in | OT general | Greg Martin | 36569
You can not find these in the Bible because you are reading an English Bible and these are Hebrew names! You have to translate them to English and then look them up. You can not find the word "rapture" in the Bible either because it comes from the word "rapturo" which is the Greek for the word harpazo which means "to catch away" or "snatch up" |

18 | O.T. Israel salvation? | John 6:49 | Greg Martin | 36554
No one can lose their salvation. But not all church goers are Christians. Those who were saved out of Israel of the OT believed in Christ. They looked forward to the promise. We look back to the fulfillment. Cain went through all the motions and did what was required. His sacrifice was not accepted because his heart was wrong. He did what was required; he did not love what was required. Being "saved" from oppression is not the same as being saved. |

19 | muslims - 144,000? | Revelation | Greg Martin | 36396
I've always wondered, Isa. Please take no offense, none is meant. Why do Muslims not like the Jews? Are you not half brothers? Why do the sons of Abraham kill each other? PS: You may be interested to know the Bible says Gen 16:7 The angel of the Lord found Hagar near a spring in the desert; it was the spring that is beside the road to Shur. 9 Then the angel of the Lord told her, "Go back to your mistress and submit to her." 10 The angel added, "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count." 11 The angel of the Lord also said to her: "You are now with child and you will have a son. You shall name him Ishmael, for the Lord has heard of your misery. 12 He will be a wild donkey of a man; his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all his brothers." And did you know that many belive the "Angel of the Lord" is the preincarnate Christ? |

20 | The Rapture in Revelation | Revelation | Greg Martin | 36395
My 2c added in here... Rev 5:2 Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals?" 3 And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll, or to look at it. 4So I wept much, because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll, or to look at it. No one in heaven. No one on earth. No one under the earth. 5But one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals." 6And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 Then He came and took the scroll out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. If No one in heaven, on earth or under the earth was found, where did the Lamb come from? Not in heaven. Not on earth. Not under the earth. then where? In the clouds, bringing up His Church? |
