1 | Mythology and the bible? | Bible general Archive 1 | Greg Martin | 34996
Is there a question here? I'd be wary of "information" gleened from online discussions. Yes even here. Note that the prophesies of Christ began with God's sentencing of Adam and Eve. So from the beginning the Christ was made known. And do not forget that Israel was in Egypt for 500 years. From what sources do the posters give for their stories? I'm not saying they make these up or repeat what was made up to deceive, but then again they may. How is it that these same can discredit the veracity of the Bible, yet believe secular stories from the same time periods? So was there a question here? |

2 | Why did Jesus have to beborn of a virgin | Bible general Archive 1 | Greg Martin | 35002
What has already been posted is correct. I like to relate these Truths to things people can actually see (or at least picture) Imagine God's heaven as a canvas of pure white. He will absolutely not let anything but pure white touch the canvass. Now Man is the brush and is given a palette of pure white and ugly, gruesome black. God tells Man not to touch the black but only the white. When man so much as touches the black, his brush is contaminated. when he goes back to the white, the white is contaminated. The result is he is barred from Heaven with no recourse. Now suppose a man is born and never in his entire life touches the black. He only dwells in the pure white. Can he then go to heaven? No. Because his brush is tainted. Even his "pure" white is contaminated and, hence, not pure. He also is barred from Heaven with no recourse. We are all sons of Adam. (Isaiah 64:6 all our righteous acts are like filthy rags) Jesus came as a clean brush and dwelt only in the pure white. (Born of a virgin, sinless life) Now He is able to dwell in heaven. (paint on the canvass) Since the wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23) Christ owed no penalty, but paid it anyway. Because He paid a penalty not due, He is able to apply the justification to an infinite number of those to whom it is due. (John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name) |

3 | do babies go to heaven or hell? | Bible general Archive 1 | Greg Martin | 37672
Jeremiah 1:5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." says God to Jeremiah. God allows you to make all your own decisions, but he knows what they all are before you are born. Will the baby be saved later in life? God knows now. He knew at the beginning of the World. Your name was written in the Book of Life before the Foundation of the World. Phil 4:3 Rev 2:5; 17:8, 20:15. Revelation 20:15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. |

4 | Enjoy a beer | Bible general Archive 1 | Greg Martin | 40425
1 Timothy 5:23 No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and your frequent infirmities. The Bible tells us wine is healthy and to drink a little bit. The Pilgrims drank beer because they thought it to be more healthy than water. George Washington's favorite brew was made with pumpkin. Anyone thinking they are "more spiritual" or "holier" than the Pilgrims or George Washington (the most righteous man who ever set foot on this continent) I quote to you Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. Luke 7:33 For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, "He has a demon.' 34 The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, "Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Jesus drank wine. But to you, top, I caution you Prov 20:1 Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Prov 21:17 He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; He who loves wine and oil will not be rich Eph 5:18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, Romans 14:21 It is good neither to eat meat nor drink wine nor do anything by which your brother stumbles or is offended or is made weak. So in other words, no it is not wrong to drink beer or wine in very small quantities and not in public, nor in the company of the weak or offended. |

5 | Why is it that I cannot find Adonai in | OT general | Greg Martin | 36569
You can not find these in the Bible because you are reading an English Bible and these are Hebrew names! You have to translate them to English and then look them up. You can not find the word "rapture" in the Bible either because it comes from the word "rapturo" which is the Greek for the word harpazo which means "to catch away" or "snatch up" |

7 | Who is Jesues | NT general Archive 1 | Greg Martin | 34153
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 8:57Then the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?" 58Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM." 59Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. John 20:28And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" 29Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." |

9 | How did | Genesis | Greg Martin | 35624
It was fruit of the Tree of knowledge of good and evil. Gen 2:9,17; 3:3 No one knows what kind of fruit it was. It is most likely that it no longer exists because God barred the way to the garden so man could not eat of the tree of life(Gen 3:23,24) and the curse makes the ground produce thorns and thistles (3:18). So it appears that all the trees in the garden no longer exist. What did Satan use? PRIDE. He appealed to Eve's pride and tried to get her to commit his sin, overthrowing God. (Gen 3:5) |

10 | Book, chapter and verse? | Gen 1:26 | Greg Martin | 44894
John 8:44 These are excellent questions LadyK. I don't think I can answer in the context of your Genesis question. Had you not asked this question first, I believe I could have answered your question. But when put in the light of your creation question, I confess my inadequacy. Jesus said in John 8 that Satan is the father of lies and a murderer from the beginning. So those abiding in lies (not believing in our Lord and Savior) are sons of the father of lies. Jesus also said (John 10:4) "And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice." and (John 10:27) "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." So clearly those who don't believe do not know His voice - that is they can not comprehend the light (John 1:5) or know the truth. the lie lives in them and so they are sons of the father of lies. In the context of your original question, I don't know how to answer. When we are born again we are born of the Spirit, and the Spirit lives in us. In this sense we are sons of our Father, and are created in His image. We know that Paul tells us the Christ also lives in us. If Christ, then also the Father. It's the "from birth" part that gives me trouble. |

11 | Go or Come to Noah to Enter Ark | Gen 7:1 | Greg Martin | 34156

Note, Wherever we are, it is very desirable to have the presence of God with us, for this is all in all to the comfort of every condition. It was this that made Noah’s ark, which was a prison, to be to him not only a refuge, but a palace" |

12 | Why no sacrifices for Jews today? | Exodus | Greg Martin | 34043
I have asked an orthodox Jew this question. Her answer, I believe she got it from her Rabbi, was that the sacrifice was now good works. When I asked what prompted the move from the requirement of a blood sacrifice to good works, she said modernization. I did not press the issue by asking how men could "modernize" God's laws, because I had just pressed her on why Genesis 1 uses a plural name for God, Elohim is plural, and why it says "Let Us make Man in Our own image" (Her answer to that, again from her Rabbi, was that it "was a king's we" whatever that means...) I emphasize that I am no expert on Judaism, and any Rabbi will certainly feel free to correct or confirm. |

13 | Why would God seek to kill Moses? | Ex 4:24 | Greg Martin | 73880
From the text it appears that Moses was delinquent or even negligent to circumcise his son. It seems his wife Zipporah had to do it for him. This would account for why she was mad at him for she says "Surely you are a husband of blood to me!" and again after God let him go, she said, "'You are a husband of blood!'--because of the circumcision." v26 No mother would take kindly to having to do this to her own son. This would be a man's job. I think she's saying, I can't believe you made me do this because of your own negligence. In v26 it says "So He let him go." It appears God was going to take his life because he was not going to fulfill his part of the bargain. It may be that, since he did not do the circumcision, he was also intending not to go to Egypt either. (speculation) One can put 2 and 2 together and surmise that since God knew Moses would be the prophet, He did this to shock Moses back to the reality that he MUST go. Surely God knew that he would, yet it appears that he was preparing not to go. It is a hard thing that Moses was commanded to do, and he might have been thinking that meeting with God was just a dream, or that he was losing his mind and imagining these things. Imagine if you met God and He told you to go to Iran and depose the government. You would probably be looking for reasons to prove it wasn't real. |

14 | scripture for Write it in your doorway? | Deut 6:9 | Greg Martin | 35004
Deuteronomy 6:9 Deuteronomy 6 1 "Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the LORD your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, 2that you may fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the LORD God of your fathers has promised you--"a land flowing with milk and honey.' 4"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. |

15 | Wolf in Sheep's Clothing. At last, TRUTH | 1 Kin 22:22 | Greg Martin | 48091

16 | What does 1 Samuel 16:14-16 mean? | 1 Kin 22:22 | Greg Martin | 48094
This is different than 1 Kings 22:20. This is not necessarily an evil spirit, but a distressing spirit. If Gabriel himself appeared before you you'd be distressed. (But this is not what this is about that was just an example) Prov 21:1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes. If God can turn the heart of the king wherever He desires, He can also wrench it. |

20 | how do i pray and leave it with the lord | Prov 15:22 | Greg Martin | 36715
I'm guessing that you really don't want to quit, but rather you think you need to. When you decide to quit you will. What can force you to decide is to make yourself accountable to Christian friends. Proverbs 15:22 Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counselors they are established. Proverbs 1:5 A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, Proverbs 11:14 Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety. Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise. Proverbs 24:6 For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, And in a multitude of counselors there is safety. Don't be embarrassed, we were all sinners before being saved. In fact the only difference now is that we are forgiven because of our continual repentance. So just tell them your story and ask them to help. And of course continue praying (Luke 18:1-6) |
